The front desk guy name Ray was so rude and disrespectful making me not want to come in for an inspection. He asked what vehicle I have and I said "Lexus gs350" he then proceed with a snarky comment "well shit, that's an expensive vehicle for a free inspection" why advertise something if you gonna have something dumb to say. He then told me to come in at a later time. Why would I trust this place with my "expensive car" when their customer service are so damn terrible. Stopped in @ 5:30pm. On the Apple Maps it said that they closed @ 7:00pm, I was told that they close @ 6:00pm. I asked for an air check and was turned away. The manager said the air compressor was turned off and he was the only one on, so no. They are the closest mechanic shop to my home and I like to use neighborhood businesses and have used them before for tires. I will no longer be using this shop again. read more

Do not come To this pep boys. I came here be side I live 2-3 Miles away and the pep boys in Scottsdale helped me patch a tire before, so I knew I was in their system already. But when I arrived the guy with long red hair told me without looking at my car that he was pretty sure they wouldn't be able to patch it and that I should just buy a new tire. Without even inspecting it! I told him my tire treads are in pristine condition, I didn't need new tires, just a patch. They weren't busy, and multiple guys were just sitting around but he told me to call a cab and leave the car because they were busy and wouldn't be able to look at it til 6pm. It was 1:30. I waited 30 minutes for an Uber to finally come get me, and I live 2-3 miles away. I had barely walked in the door, and they called to say they couldn't fix it and come get the car. They said I needed a new tire, but when I pointed out my tread and tires are brand new, he made up some story about the nail being in the side of the tire and unfixable. They had to have pulled my car in the second I left. Not even 15 minutes had passed. So I spent $30 on Ubers round trip, got my car & went to Discount Tire. They inspected the second I pulled in, confirmed the nail was centered in the tire, and completely patchable, and did it on the spot. Will not be back. Go to Discount Tire. Discount also didn't charge me, pep boys were going to charge me if they'd fixed it. read more

I was 15 minutes late to an appointment and the guy made no attempt to fit me in for a drop off to leave, only said he could reschedule for another day because they already used my time slot. He also was not very nice, as if no one is ever late to their appointments to Pep Boys. I understand they have to keep up with the flow of incoming work, but it could have been handled better. Also, the last time I used them they replaced my windshield wipers and my rear view third wiper fell off a day after having the service done and they left the plastic protective wrap on all of the wipers. I've had much better service here in the past, but today was the last time for me. read more

My car started overheating so I took it to this location, they did an engine diagnostic and said Ill need a whole new radiator installed which would cost over $1000 parts and labor. I told them I didnt have that kind of $$$ right away and told them I'll take it to another garage. Got my car looked at at another garage and they told me that the radiator belt was off and just needed to be adjusted and that's all the issue was. He said it seemed whoever worked on my car at pep boys purposly unhooked a hose leading to the radiator so it seemed like I needed a new radiator. The Mechanic called pep boys to ask why my car needed a new radiator and why this hose was taken out. He said the person he was speaking to from pep boys couldnt give him and answer and became defensive and started yelling at him. So pep boys was really about to scam me over $1000. read more

I set an appointment with the shop for noon. I never got a confirmation from the store that day and to show up early. With the pandemic I always show up on time. I was there at 12:03 and waited 5 or so minutes at the front desk waiting for service guy to get off the phone. He starts processing and says you plan on dropping off. We said no that we were going to wait. He said since we were late that they are booked and we will get our car next week. What! We specially told them we were going to wait on the appointment and he said he canceled us since we were not there. The guy was on phone before we got there. What kind of place are you running here. My Honda is undriveable after they got their hands on it and took over $700.00 of my money. My teenage daughter was left stranded in a busy intersection 15 min after picking the car up from this place, if you care about your family's well-being please find a reputable shop. We have asked repeatedly for them to make it right and so far nothing has been done. **emailing pepsocial@pepboys.com is completely useless. they don't do anything except add these canned responses to every review. no one at this company is committed to actual problem resolution in a timely fashion. most people get their cars serviced regularly because we NEED them. i'm going on 2 weeks of no car due to the negligence of pep boys. read more

When it counted the most Pep Boys Mesa on Guadalupe came thru for us sometime in May 2022. We had a flat while out and about and called three nearby places and they all said they could not help us because it was near end of day. We ended up calling Pep Boys that was further from where we were and the man attending said come on down even tho it was so late and it would take us time to get there. No one complained and the tire guy stayed to fix it. We would have had to abandon our car and call an uber or something to get home. They saved us from a ton of inconvenience by helping us at the end of day. They didn't charge us and we gave a nice tip but should have given more. TL;DR PepBoys charged me extra for tire installation for no apparent reason. I really like this location, I've brought a couple of my cars here for basic stuff like tires and alignments. I recently brought my car in to get 4 tires mounted which according to their website should be about $115ish. Quite a bit more expensive than the $87 I paid for the same job back in 2021 on my previous car but I figured it was just inflation. I got home and out of curiosity looked at the receipt and noticed that I wasn't billed for a tire installation. Instead I have a charge for $110-Miscellaneous, $10.99 in Miscellaneous shop supplies, and $10 in tax. My total came out to be $130 FOR TIRE INSTALLATION. That's more than my alignment was. Since no one explained to me what I'd be paying or why my receipt has 2 miscellaneous items listed on it I can only assume that I was charged an extra $30 to pad that locations pockets. I will not be returning here for anything, not even for a tire patch. read more

I am disgusted by the absolute lack of customer service. How can you treat people this way and still be in business? I told the manager that this was my first time in, as I previously took my vehicle to Sun Devil Auto. However, I wanted to try this place out of the shere convenience, yet I was severely disappointed. I came in and was quoted an astronomical price for a synthetic oil change (double that of Sun devil Auto). I asked the man at the counter if they price matched a local competitor and he rudely shouted "NO! I have worked here 4 years and we do not price match anyone!" He said this in such a snide manner as if I had done something to offend him. Then I showed him on Pepboys.com, his company's very own website, that it stated that they priced match any local competitor for a similar service. Then he got even more infuriated and said "We will not do that!" Now, false advertising is a crime in itself, but the way this man treated me and the customer prior to me was unforgivable. Don't see how this place has 4 stars, they can't even replace an alternator. I took an 06' expedition to them to replace a bad alternator ( which is right on top of the motor, easiest one I've ever done.) and they fumbled with it for 4 hours and said they couldn't do it. I was hesitant to go here after the bad review but I know you can't please everybody. The employees customer service skills at this location are amazing. They made me feel welcome and cared for. I had an oil change as well as my engine light had come on during a long trip from Los Angeles to Gold Canyon and I was concerned. Loc & Alberto (please forgive me as I forgot the cashiers name as well) calmed me down and reassured me I would be taken care of. They fixed the issue with no cost to me as it wasn't major and even told me to come back if I wanted them to recheck everything before I got back on the road for a 7 hour dive. This place deserves less then 5 star's, more like negative 5 star's, the manager was rude ,there was a can I noticed as I was walking in with MY KID'S that had pin holes and burn mark's on it like a make shift pipe for drug's on it, when I walked in and told the manager he said ok and, just shrugged it off like it was nothing, that was the 1st thing ,second I ordered tire's from Amazon and they use this service franchise for business and at 1st he had no clue what it was talking about, then tell's me it should be done around 3 or 4 when the appointment I had was between 10-11am ,when I said excuse me ,he say's all Amazon order's are drop off which it never stated ,or was ever called to be notified about, then after all that discussion I ask if there's any way it could be done sooner since the shop was empty, he said no ,it takes at least 30 minutes to do just 1 tire ,but they still couldn't get me in ,then he goes to my vehicle and comes back in to tell me they can't do it because the lift they would have to use is broken because I have foot rail's and they would have to reschedule with nothing but attitude, so I called a shop closer to my home ,they were EXTREMELY courteous and professional unlike This Pep boys on Guadalupe in Mesa, they were majorly unprofessional, so if you have issue's with your vehicle or need tire's, look ANYPLACE else like I did ,I was VERY pleased with Queen Creek Tire Pros ,they treated my children with respect as well as me ,they were above awesome and had me inand out fast ,as for Pep Boys, a big fat F for failure and a big F'U Pep boys. read more

Took my car in to run a diagnostic! Explained what was Happening with the service light and they wanted to run a diagnostic on my car. Dropped my car off and waited a couple hours for them to call me with an 800plus dollar fix claiming it was the throttle body and it needed to be replaced! I don't even believe they ran a diagnostic because I ended up finding an actual mechanic who doesn't try to rape people's pockets and it was my gasket. Simple and easy fix and in no way shape or form was it my throttle body. This place is a joke. Glad to give y'all 100 dollars for false claims. read more

Called the Higley location cuz I had received excellent service recently from Rafael and his team, spoke with him, and made an appointment for the next morning to get a set of tires for my wife's 2006 Toyota Highlander. The gentleman at the counter said Rafael wasn't there, and that he mistakenly wrote up 17" Kumho tires with his quote for $490.53 but the vehicle takes 16" tires, adding that they had no 16" Kumho tires. The prior evening Rafael told me they had a ton. The agent said he could install Cooper 16" for $652.53 ($162 difference) & 155.99/tire instead of $110.99/tire. Cooper Adventurer have 65,000 mile prorated warranty and Kumho have 60,000 mile prorated warranty. Plus damn near $200 for extra spare. It was already 10:00 and too dangerous to drive in the rain looking for tire dealerships. While waiting, my quick research verified that the suggested but unexpected upgrade is the correct tire for the car, so the sales rep was correct. 2006 Highlander has two different tires 16" or 17" wheels. Wanted to see how well it drove, so I drove 202 home at 70-75, stayed on Ellsworth and drove 45-50 and at times with no hands (to check alignment which is correct). Total was $646.18 for the car. Why did it come up to over $700 after all that? I had to complain more to get him to lower it to $650 ($648.18). Actually not a bad price. However, the low tire indicator light remained on. Our local Pep Boys checked it out and stated that the sensors had been removed but when I called they stated they don't remove the sensors. After going back and forth with him, he said I could bring it in and they'll take a look at it. He added, Rafael was off but would be there the next day. I called the next morning and Rafael, who had received my message, had completed his research, informed me that the vehicle has no sensors, and the light could be manually turned off by the customer under the steering wheel. Problem solved. Again, Rafael saved this customer from taking our business elsewhere. Thank you! read more
