Horrible customer service at this establishment. I was greeted at the front desk by a portly woman with a mean scowl on her face. She could not even stop stuffing her face with chips for one minute to check on my reservation. In between her crunching and speaking she told me that I was too early to bring my car in despite there being no customers in the store and no cars being worked on. This review is for the following pepboys location: 598 NJ-38, Maple Shade, NJ 08052. Went to get an alignment and to replace 2 rear bald tires. Alignment was not completed (readout attached). Instead of 2 rear tires, tech replaced 1 rear and 1 front tire. Thereafter, front desk called to inform that 2 other tires should be replaced as one of them was nearly bald (which was a rear tire) and tires had a different pattern. To top it off, tech recommended replacing rear drum brake pads that still have 75-80% of material on them. Of coarse pepboys "fine team" admits to no wrong doing and charged every penny for their "exceptional services". read more

I had a entirely frustrating experience at Pep Boys. After waking up to a flat tire on my wife's van, I had it towed for a repair. They claimed I needed four new tires, though the car was just checked at the dealer the week prior. I declined and asked for only one. Later, they said the wheel lock was missing. I assured them it was there, but they insisted otherwise. When I arrived, I found it myself in the spare compartment. They AGAIN still pushed for four tires, but I stood firm. After leaving, the tire pressure light came on. At a gas station, I found they hadn't even inflated the new tire. DEEPLY Disappointed with the upselling, lack of vehicle knowledge and poor service. I would have given a zero but can't. I bought my tires there, and road hazard. One tire needed to be repaired but they destroyed my black rim when repairing. They did order a new rim, set me up for a 9:00 appt to get it put on but after over an hour they still did not put my car in to get the rim replaced. Being an ex-mechanic, I took my custom valve cap off and left my wheel lock on my car seat to help in any way possible. Once they grabbed the vehicle they were done in 5 minutes. I have a love hate relationship with Pep Boys. Some locations are great, and others are shifty. I believe this location use to be located near the Kmart and Perkins. Now it's located near the the new WaWa being built where the old corvette corner use to be. When I visted the older location I use to walk and browse the stores in the shopping center. The service could be really slow some days. Also, I don't remeber having negative customer service experiences there. I came here this past Saturday for an oil change. I drive a 07 GM car AND I had a coupon. I just needed the 24.99 oil change. The guy at the counter was friendly and told me the computer is suggesting I use a synthetic blend.....he also turned the monitor to show me. After pretty much* telling him nicely it would be a cold day in *hail* before I pay $80 dollars for an oil change in "this" car he kindly told me it should be finished within 45min-1hr. I wish I'd taken pictures. This building was nicely renovated into a cozy pep boys (I will insert the stores that use to be here in this building) the lobby was nice, there was no foul sweaty oily repair shop odor, and the bath room was usable. In the lobby there was a TV, a free wifi desk area/charging station, and the Keurig station. I'd prepared to be there long so I brought a book and sat at a table. I did try using the Keurig which had three streams of coffee pouring :( and they only had sweet and low....I so didn't drink it, I actually tossed it at the nearby produce junction. To my surprise within 20 minutes they were finished. No add ons. They also have manger specials posted of which they bundle services into a one time special fee. I'd go here again. I still run to South Jersey to do errands vs Princeton and this quick service really made the drive worthwhile. I received excellent service here. I was running errands in the area when my oil light and service engine light came on. The engine started making a bad sound and this shop was the closest. Everyone who helped me was very friendly and informative. I ended up having to leave my car overnight because it seemed there might be more extensive work that needed to be done. I was worried about having to pay a hefty repair price, but when I went to pick up my car the next morning, the gentleman who helped me told me they fixed up my car free of charge! Ran over to the shop and no more than 5 minutes of waiting, they had me back on the road. Horrible service. Rude techs, they take but cannot hold appointments from online to in person or on the phone. They have been short staffed for 2 years now and it's never their fault as they claim. Had to go back 6 times to get a break job corrected, still squeals and squeaks with new pads and rotors. Made appointment yesterday for today, showed up early and they couldn't take me at all. Purchased road hazard for tires but can't pull a nail and plug it so I have to go to a competitor. Save your time and money and go to your dealer or a local tech who knows what they are doing. After they said they could do nothing for me or even try to squeeze me in if I waited, they sent me on my way and suggested another pep boys, then as I'm reversing out of my spot someone walks up to my car and knocks on my window while I'm trying to talk to another shop. Don't waste more of my time and why in the world would you approach a moving car of a former customer that will never be back! I made an appointment to get my tires changed so I dropped my car off the night before for an appointment at 8 AM. Around 1pm I called to check on the progress of my vehicle and they told me that there was an issue with the two new tires and I would have to wait for the new ones to get there . They asked me if I wanted to pay for an alignment I said no at this point because I had to wait 5 hours for a simple tire change . Then I asked if they could do anything about the major inconvenience of waiting over five hours for a tire change that I had an appointment for at eight in the morning he said that they could discount the alignment but not do it for free so I just said forget about it. I go to pick up my car and there is grease all over my rims and brand new tires you would think that they would at least wipe them off of my rim but they didn't. The tire pressure light was on they couldn't even reset that for me so unprofessional. When I commented on the grease on my rim they said oh that's just a little grease and didn't offer to clean them. I will never be coming back to this area I will have to just take the trip to somewhere else. I do not recommend this place at all. read more

I was stranded with NO OIL in my car. I called Pete at Pep Boys in Maple Shade and he said come right in. I was able to make it in and he helped me right away to get to the next day. I dropped my car off the next morning and go everything taken care of. It was so easy, they knew just what to do. I've been to this location several times and they ALWAYS take great care of me. I'm always happy and feel so good about the repairs they do. Pete is so knowledgeable and makes me feel calm about what's going on with my car. Great experience. Called after ripping a sidewall hole in one of my tires and they got me in right away. Jerry went over options (OEM vs. store brand, etc.) and prices... all of which were far more reasonable than the dealer. I was in and out in a little over an hour. The waiting area is nice, free k-cups (I had like 4) and a nice TV with soap operas; I was so caught up in the soap opera the hour flew by. I feel like Pep Boys is a solid national chain, wish more people would visit for service versus dealers and Firestone/Goodyear, etc. I'll gladly go back the next time I nail another lovely Jersey pot hole. read more

Took my wife's car in for routine oil change and tire rotation. Despite having made an online reservation (eServ), I spent 1.5 hours waiting (though that was 1/2 hour less than what the counter-man originally thought it would take). So, the first takeaway is do not count on being able to have an oil change done during your lunch hour! More disturbing is that no wheel rotation was done on the car. Who knows whether they even changed the oil (i will have a look at the oil filter when I get home). My recommendation is to steer clear. read more

This was a pretty unbelievably bad experience. I brought my car in because one of the lights was on. They checked it and said I would have to take it to my dealer (still had to pay the $75). They said not to take it to the dealer right away and to wait a couple more days until the service light would come back on (they had turned it off). When I was driving my car away from the lot I heard a very weird noise near my windshield. When I got to work and could check - I found SIX bolts outside of my car just rolling around near the windshield. When I called to ask why those were there - they pretended it was on purpose and said 'We thought you were going to take it right to the dealers so we kept the bolts off'. Obviously a confusing statement seeing as they JUST told me to wait a couple days before bringing it to the dealers. Also, not a place you should keep bolts intentionally seeing as they could have flown of the car as I was driving. So anyways - brought my car to the dealers a couple days later. I looked like a fool bringing these 6 bolts to them and asking them to put them back on - they asked what were they to and I said I had no idea and that Pep Boys told me they intentionally left them off. Turns out they were to my engine cover. Pep Boys had forgotten to put the GIANT engine cover back on my car and just left these bolts on my car. And instead of checking why these bolts were left on my car they just straight up lied to me when I called them. So back to Pep Boys.... I went back asking where my engine cover was and telling them they had left it off. And of course, the first question they had was 'Are you sure the dealers didn't take it off?'. No sir, I'm actually certain you all did. And low and behold they had my engine cover tucked away in a corner! Because why call and say they messed up, just wait until I figure it out. And for the inconvenience they offered a free oil change. They should have refunded the $75 they charged me instead. Poor car service and poor customer service. I had been going to this Pep Boys for more than 3 years and now I will never return. If they had reimbursed me instead of offering a lame oil change they could have kept me as a customer. read more

Be very careful with this shop, they are lairs. You will end up cost a lot more than you think it should be, so you still want to go? They don't tell you how much it will cost initially, if you ask, they will always say they want to take a look or they will give your a quote then regret. But once you bring your car there, they will charge your big money until they finish and until they think you pay enough. Yes, please go there if you want to pay a lot more than others. You need to be careful, you want to find a store with good reputation and no cheat, right? read more

I have used pep boys at various locations in the past. This was by far the worst experience. I made a scheduled appointment several days in advance. When I showed up, they said they were too busy and would have to reschedule. I should have taken this as a bad omen. I needed my power window which was off track fixed. They rescheduled for the next day and I waited. Upon taking apart car, they reported regulator and several other parts were bad and required replacing. They wanted to charge 400. I said absolutely not. They were not happy I said no. 2 parts were missing from the car and the window was jammed all the way down. The car was in worse situation then when I brought it and the window clips were removed. The next day I brought it to a BMW specialized shop. The parts pep boys said were broken were not. The total repair was 150. Do not go to this location. They are either not skilled at detecting an issue or are crooks. read more

Made an appointment for 3:00 for tire rotation and oil and filter change. We decided to go to the mall and wait for the text that the car was done. It never came. We went back 3 hours later and when we got there, they told us the tech had essentially put my ticket in the wrong place and the service was never completed. They were apologetic and said they'd fix it ASAP. We went out again and came back about 20 mins later. They said they changed the oil and rotated the tires, but that they couldn't get my filter out because the case was "sealed shut". I called my dad, a former mechanic who oversees my service and works at a Toyota dealership, and he said he knows that this is not factual and assumes that they didn't have the correct wrench to remove the cover without breaking it, which he sees all the time at work, and that this was probably an excuse (if so, at least they didn't break it and told me they couldn't get it off instead). We did check the oil when we got home (to make sure it was actually done) and it was full and clean, so it appears that they did do this. I was not charged, which is a positive. Overall, 1star because while the gentlemen were nice, this was a pretty pathetic service experience. read more
