There was a mistake made when placing our online order. We were totally unaware of this before hand because the order confirmation email didn't contain a clear description. My wife completed the transaction without seeing it or knowing the tire was totally the wrong size and completely useless to us. We walked back inside immediately. Then the associate informed us we were intelligible to return the tire because we ordered online and paid cash in store, also we didn't receive a paper receipt. At this point, we were standing there with a new tire paid in full and no options. We didn't have any use for a tire that wouldn't fit our wheel. I mean this tire was basically trash in our opinion. This store did an amazing job helping us correct this issue. This compelled us to post the experience online. We were very thankful and expressed that to this associate. My husband placed an order for tires over the phone. We went over for installation and they did not have the 4 tires in stock. They were supposed to have the tires in by noon. At one my husband called and they said they would call him as soon as they arrive. A little later they called and said they were delivered. I went right over and they had told my husband and hour and half for installing the 4 tires. When I arrived I was told 2 1/2 to 3 hours. My husband came by to pick me up 2 hours later and they said another 2 hours (5 PM) and they would make it happen!! We got there about 5:10 and they were pulling my car into the shop to start the work!! So we refused and took my car home to find someone who keeps their word. An amazing couple helped jump start me enough to make it to this Pep Boys. I also had my two dogs with me, no leashes or collars, so I'm thinking I'm stranded. Have a small nail hole I needed patched that was well over the inch rule, not near the side wall. Am met with a grumpy service writer, that when asked about how long it would take says they're already behind. Mind you it's 9am, I say the tire is off and I can bring it in and come back. Set up an appointment at 10am on Monday for a state inspection and an oil change. Arrived at 9:15 to drop off vehicle and was told it would be 6pm at the earliest. I verified my phone number asked for a call if it wasn't going to be done, arranged a ride. 6:20 pm I call only to be told that now there were 3 vehicles in front of me somehow and it would be lunchtime if I left it overnight. I agreed and at 2:45 pm I called to see if it was finished since I had not received a call. The man at the desk Eddie I believe said yes. I arranged a ride to get there and at 3:07pm I walked in only to be told " you are the next one up" 24 hours - the first day there were only 4 ahead of me, the second day there were only 3 ahead of me, they told me it was ready when I called 29 hours after I dropped it off. Then when I arrive they decided to say it was going to be brought in. Worst customer service and communication ever . Thank you Sir!, you deserve this shout out on Google. Pep Boys is the Best place to visit when you feel like you can't go into dealership due to economic reasons. In these hard times , I feel like dealerships take advantage of the economic situation on car owners when it comes to a simple thing like tire repair or something like "tire pressure monitor system " and lights showing on dashboards. I went to a dealership to inquire about the light on my dash, but I was told that the monitor system needs full change for all 4 tires at $120 per tire, do you know that most of the time-women are the ones taken unfair advantage of because, we know nothing about car repairs. I would have paid $480 for something that could have been fixed by "adding air"..to a low pressure tire. I decided to visit PepBoys to get a second opinion and "Mr. Adolfo" shared that my car just needed some air on the tires and the lights will disappear, and that's exactly what happened. I was so elated that a simple air was all I needed. I could have wasted $480 in a dealership if I did not check a second opinion... Lol. Darius, the technician who did the final check also professionally attended to me , very courteous and he was equally knowledgeable. I googled nearby places to have a MD inspection done and chose this Pep Boys because they had next day availability and online scheduling. I selected 9 am and selected that I'd wait for my vehicle. I arrived the next day and was told that they "don't do" waiting for your car. Despite my 9 am appointment, I was told the tech was working on an alternator that would take at least three hours and would get to me once that was finished. I am dumbfounded that they have such a complete disregard for people's time as to offer meaningless appointments. I am a SAHM so while this was annoying and frustrating, I simply found a locally owned shop via Yelp that could help me. Story time: I bought a car out of state and came to Pep Boys to get a state inspection. I brought my car in at 8am and they told me they would be able to get it done this morning since i was one of the only cars there. I call at 12 to see what the status is and they said my car was next. I call again at 4pm and they said they can't get to it today and that it would get done first thing the next morning. That is the 2nd time they told me it would get done "first thing in the morning" I don't recommend getting your car serviced here is you want a same day service or even decent service. read more

Traveling through the area and realized I had a bubble on the wheel of my car. Called around to a few places but Pep boys was the only last minute one I could get. Not only were they extremely nice and accommodating by ordering the tire size needed but also installed them all the day of. We got there in the afternoon and were out by the evening. I asked for synthetic and they gave me the conventional oil for my Nissan. For Nissans (that are notorious for needing proper oil and regular oil changes) this is UNACCEPTABLE. I usually go to my regular Pep Boys out of state where this never happens because they are knowledgable. These ppl clearly don't have sense and don't care. When I called, Tony was unapologetic and frankly didn't care. He said "I'll see what my manager wants to do when you come in." So when I came in and told them again what happened, I hear Tony come by the woman who I was speaking with (Shanda) and say that the conventional oil change was asked for...which it wasn't. So I guess blame the customer is the new practice, huh? And why didn't you say that on the phone with me when I called, huh? Bcuz you're lying. Shanda then told me (when I showed her proof that the appointment was made specifically for a synthetic oil change) that her system doesn't show that, it just shows a blank slate. Hmmm...and who's problem is that? Mine? As the customer taking the time to make the appt., providing specific details to make your job easier? Or YOURS as the company with faulty systems? She even complained with the Sales Manager while I was there saying I hate these systems. So clearly you all are a COMPLETE MESS! GET IT TOGETHER! If I take the time to schedule a detailed appt with what I need, don't then tell me foolishness about YOUR mistake. I had ordered tires for a work van from Amazon and it gave me the option to have them installed at Pepboys so I decided to give it a try, the tires arrived, we set up the appointment for 4pm on a Wednesday, I arrived on time they told me that I could leave the vehicle there so I did and told me to come back at seven or they will give me a call if they could get it done before that I didn't receive a phone call so I went there at 6:45 to pick up the vehicle and when I get there everything is closed I didn't get no phone call. Great service during these difficult times. The other day my car started to shake violently. Mind you my car has been on its last leg for a while now and my first thought was "oh no, this is it. If you're trying to get a state inspection it doesn't count if you do an appointment online. I got there and was told that there are no appointments and it's based on a "first come, first serve." I understand the frustration because this a corporate thing, rather than their doings personally. But I still think that they need to make these changes online so that the shop is responsible and informing people if they do or do not do appointments for inspections. The guy was very pleasant to talk to and recommended other areas to get it done. The man I was speaking to told me over the phone that there was a fourth tire in stock at another location and he would send a driver down to get it for me. Very helpful! Once the service was complete, I noticed my steering wheel was a bit crooked from the alignment so I took it back in and they fixed it in a timely manner and free of charge. I wouldn't recommend going to pep boys for an engine replacement but I've had good luck with them on routine maintenance such as oil changes and brake jobs. Unfortunately they're developed a first come first serve reservation policy that I'm not too fond of. I tried to set up an appointment to change from summer tires to winter tires. The guy at the counter refused to give me a date or a time. Instead, I was told to bring the car in at 8 am and leave it for the entire day. When I asked for a 9 am timeslot I was told I would have to leave the car overnight. Sorry, Mr. Pep. No can do. This story starts of bad but the way Pep Boys handled the situation was outstanding; hence the 5 stars! I went in there this past Wednesday to have my cabin air filter changed on 2004 Mazda 3. I had the part; I just needed someone to install it for me. For those of you are unaware, installing the cabin air filter on a Mazda is extremely difficult. In Mazda's (at least mine), you have to go under the glove box, remove the fuse box and then install the filter. Anyways, I went there and the guy that worked on my car did a good job to install the filter. But he did not put everything back correctly as after the filter was installed, the electrical system for my car would not work. Wipers, hazard lights, tail light, courtesy light etc were all not working. Since it was late in the day (8:30pm), the people working at the front (Erik and martin) told me to come back during the day (8am-5pm) and have it looked by a master technician. So I called Pep Boys the next day and spoke to Carl (service manager) and he was really accommodating. Carl also guaranteed that if his technician could not fix the issue, he would send the car to Mazda to have it fixed and Pep Boys would pay for it. He (Carl) made an appointment for me and it was seen by master technician Nick. Nick knew what he was doing! He fixed the electrical issue in about ten minutes. He also checked to see if the cabin air filter was installed properly (it was not earlier). Pep boys did not offer me any freebies (and to be honest, I was not looking for anything free.. I just wanted my car fixed). I asked them to install a complimentary engine filter for me and Nick did that as well. As Nick was pulling out my car, he noticed that my check engine light was on. So he stopped and run diagnostics and it turns out the check engine light was on because of removing and installing the fuse box when installing the cabin air filter. Am I going to go back to Pep boys? Probably not since Nick only works from Monday - Friday from 8-5 and I work during those times. It was a pleasant surprise to see that a company stood by their work and fixed it for me in a reasonable amount of time! read more

Not sure of the love everyone else has for this place, but the service center is horrendous! They are generally incompetent for anything more than replacing tires, but on top of that, they are outright rude. Recently, my daughter went in for a road hazard warranty claim for a leaking tire through a company that has a direct account with Pep Boys. As soon as they heard that it was a warranty claim, they went from polite and helpful to dismissive and rude. She was told it would take about an hour and after three hours they hadn't even looked at the car. Finally, with my daughter at the desk, the service attendant took a phone call and then began to speak badly about the person who had called after they hung up. No telling what they said about my daughter! On top of that again, they failed to make the repairs or resolve the issue. When I called to complain to the warranty company, they were still waiting to hear from Pep Boys--my daughter said they tore up the paperwork. This was not the first bad experience I have had with this Pep Boys. Had it not been recommended by the warranty company, I would have avoided it all together. Can't speak for the auto parts section but the shop is way above average! We got a slow flat tire in the snow a month ago, ran over a curb and cracked the aluminum rim. It was Sunday, nothing else was open. Drove around looking for a tire repair shop and stopped in at Pep Boys 15 minutes before they were closing. The mechanic on duty stayed 15 minutes AFTER closing trying to help us... we were screwed without them. In my mind Pep Boys is great, every other shop would have just told us we have to leave it overnight (making us late for work the next day) Customer service like that is increasingly rare, Two Thumbs up for Pep Boys! read more

I'll be the first to say that going to places like Pep Boys can be a gamble. However, I think I found an honest and proficient group at the West Patrick Street location. Scroll down to the last paragraph if you want to get to the "punchline" quickly. Let me take you back to Memorial Day weekend 2016. My SIL and her 3 kids came into town with their mini van. Given that my family doesn't have a van or comparable sized vehicle I ended up driving all of us around. I immediately noticed that the brakes had the worst warp and pulsation I ever felt in my life. No way would I let them take a 8 hour drive back home in this condition. So being a good BIL, I went to Pep Boys and purchased some parts. Long story short, replacing the rotors and brakes were a pain. [Cliffnotes: It took MUCH longer than anticipated, and screw you Dodge and your different "duty" brakes for the same model and using the retention clips from hell.] After I installed the rotors, I took the car for a drive and the rear brake was smoking! I had the vehicle towed to Pep Boys on Memorial Day Monday. I fully expected to have to pay mucho dinero and have to house my SIL for extra days. HERE'S THE PART YOU SHOULD READ: I forgot to clean off the anti-rust treatment off the new rotors when I installed them. The Pep Boys guys cleaned up the rotors and charged me $0.00!!! We ended up at Pep Boys after a breakdown on the interstate. The tow truck brought us to the parking lot, where we went in to get what we needed. The parts counter seemed to have no clue of what was going on, and couldn't help us with what we needed. I went in for gold or yellow antifreeze, and they sold me green because they didn't know the difference. On the other hand, one of the mechanics was very helpful. He came out to our vehicle in the parking lot as we were putting the antifreeze in to make sure everything was going ok. He may have even been on a break, but walked out to help anyway.
