I didn't like my recent experience with them. I needed to get a preventative maintenance done (timing belt) on my vehicle. I spoke to one mechanic for a quote, he quoted me $1700 for parts and labor. I hold off on the services because of the price. When I asked again 3 months later, I was quoted $2100 this time by a different mechanic. But he explained how I had to replace the water pump if doing this particular service; I waited again. I waited again a couple more weeks. When I asked again, I asked yet a different mechanic. He quoted me $2400, but he didn't explained why such a high cost even though I asked what all and all will be done for the services. So I do not recommend this place for complicated services. read more

This place is gross. The waiting room is filthy with knants flying around. I sit here now and trash can is overflowing, floor looks like it's never been mopped and they have some ripped up loveseat with suspicious stains. Customer service is poor. I came to get rotors resurfaced. It took over 4 hours! Really!?! When I checked so see why so long, I was treated like I was bothering them and was promptly told there were bigger jobs ahead of me. I guess making an appointment means nothing? I guess if you need parts, best advice is get in and get out. Waiting room probably hasn't been cleaned since last review 4 months ago. Floors caked with grease and dirt.Thank goodness I cleaned the chairs before sitting. Lysol wipes full of grit and grime. Disgusting! Thus is not a clean store! Before entering this facility, be sure to bring your own disinfectant products as I did and clean door handles, seats, table and credit card machine. I had my brakes replaced at this pep boys 6 months ago and a few weeks ago they began to squeal again so I took my truck to the Chevy Dealership like I should have to begin with. They said my brake pads were severely worn down like they had been on my vehicle for 2 years was the mechanics guess. So did they replace my old pads with used ones from another vehicle and charge me full price? I believe they did. Don't make the mistake I did. Don't go here. It's a scam. read more

Pep Boys are unabashed thieves! My first encounter with them was in Burbank,CA in 1995 and that was the last time that I ever had service work done, or have ever bought anything from their parts store. It was during a time when money was very tight for me and I will never forget it. Every time I even see a Pep Boys store or commercial I, out of sheer reflex utter these words out loud: Fuck you Pep Boys! So let me get to this store. My mother-in-law uses them exclusively, which if I lived in El Paso would not be the case. So a month ago when a part was going out, she had me take it in for an oil change and to see what they would charge. I already did some research and knew what I would feel is acceptable. So when I called and they told me 2.5 times that cost($450), my flashbacks from Burbank started. Not only was the estimate for the part I knew needed to be replaced too high, but they also decided an adjacent part was also in need of replacement. Odd, I didn't think anything was wrong with it. So when I go to pick up the car, I had a coupon for a free oil change, so when I gave it to them, they said Ok, and weren't going to give me a receipt. I said, I wanted the receipt for my records, so just show it as a no charge and I also wanted to see the written estimate. It was pretty vague WHY the other part had to be replaced. I brought it to an independant repair shop and it was exactly what I expected to pay($160) Almost 20 years later and an entirely different state and the same bullshit tactics are still in play. Folks, this can only be tolerated by a slimy corporate mentality. Google "Pep Boys scam" and see for yourself. The mechanics are paid by a type of commission, so the more they charge you, the more ends up in their paycheck. Steer clear of this and all Pep Boys! read more

Pep boys on dyer st El Paso, Texas (Auto service side) Went to this business to get a tire plug and the guy at the desk had a weird attitude, then he assists the Mexican female customer behind me and gave me the impression of racism and bias. Then after he assists her he looks at me a black male and says it will be a moment. He then sees my frustration looks up and says what do you need. I then tell him i need a tire plug he then says 2 hr wait. Are you kidding me it takes ten minutes to do. I know because i have worked fro shell rapid lube and jiffy lube before. I would give their auto side 0 stars if i could. They suck at customer service period next time i will catch a flat before even stopping. (Retail side) On the other hand the guys in the store were helpful in helping me select the right plug kit and even let me borrow pliers to help myself i give the store retail side 5 stars. They really made my morning even told me about the free air on the Auto side which i went for like a lion and wished they would have tried to stop me after their bad customer service. Overall the fuys working in the store on the retail side were all courteous and deserve a raise but the guys on the auto side need to be replaced with people who take the customer seriously and arent racist. read more

So this review is from something that happened in August, just fyi, but there is a reason that I am writing it this much later from the incident. First of all, I walked into this Pep Boys in August en route from Virginia to Washington State, and in El Paso visiting family. All I needed was an oil change and to have my tires rotated. I had some stuff I needed to get done later in the day, so I dropped my truck off at around 930 in the morning and they said they'd have it ready by noon. 12 o'clock rolls around and no phone call from them. I let it go until one, then I called them up. They acted confused at first, then finally said that the oil change was done, they were just waiting for the rotation. Give them another hour. I'm already thinking, WTF, but what choice did I have at that point. At two I call again and they say, oh yes, well here's the thing... oil change is done, but we could only rotate two of your tires because the one on the back right was over tightened at some point, and we need to order the part to fix it if you want us to take it off. They tell me they need to order the lug nut and also a strut for the tire. I'm thinking... strut? For my TIRE? I tell them, no, you know what, I'm going to drive it anyway, I'll be right there. I get to the store, it still takes them over an HOUR to find all my paperwork, figure out which vehicle was mine, find the key, and try to talk me into $280 of more work. Which I did not let them do. Anyway, I made it up to Washington in one piece. Fast forward to today. I bought four new tires from a place that I will be giving a positive review on yelp here shortly. I go in, they take all four tires off and have the new ones on for a great price in about forty minutes... No mysterious overtightened lugnuts and no mysterious strut that needed to be replaced. Let me just warn you, if you go to this Pep Boys... expect to be ripped off and have shoddy work done. read more

If it happened once or twice I might chalk it up to luck but every time I have brought my truck in to get worked on I have received the best service with no worry of up sales or mechanics over charging. We were traveling in our 2009 RV and. Blew both driver side rear tires slowly we drove to two other tire locations no one could help us! There was PepBoys ran in and the manager Brian said No Problem we can help you! What an amazing group of guys who work there! This time we used a different location to have our tires replaced. 1 day after installation, I got a warning on my display. Pep boys said they will gladly assess the problem for another $160. They refused to accept the issue was due to their negligence. Never returning to pep boys in any location. Especially El Paso. read more

I have used this store several times and they always have what I need for my car. If they don't have it, they will get it for you. Not sure why these other reviews knocked them so much. I have had work done in the shop before and no issues. But then again I take care of my car and maybe those negative reviews don't take care of theirs but who knows. I got a coupon in the mail for an oil change and tire rotation for $19. I usually do it my self but I got a new truck and don't have a jack that would lift it high enough to take the tires off yet so I figured I would use the coupon and kill two birds with one stone. Well I went there and it was kinda late but they were open and the guy says it will be a two hour wait there is only on guy working. OK I guess I will come back, figuring they just want to get out of there, there was only one car in there. He says mornings are a good time. Well the next morning same line, two hour wait, OK I will come back and I did to the same line but I waited since I needed an oil change. It took about an hour and they didn't rotate my tires. So I go in and ask him and he talks to the mechanic. He comes back and says the tires are too low on tried. We went back and forth tell he says come back later and we will do it. The tires aren't to low on tried they are fine, one is a little low on the edge but still fine and the reason I wanted them rotated. I am pretty sure they forgot and had already started another car and it would of been a pain. Honesty would have gone a long way here with the wait time, forgetting to rotate my tires and there policy. It may be there policy but my tires are fine. read more

I have been going to Pep Boys for almost two years now, and was only going there for all of my needs. However, the last two visits have been pretty terrible, and this morning's I didn't even get the services I needed. I made an appt for an oil change, states 30 minutes guaranteed. I have an appt at 9 so I made the appt specifically so I could get this guarantee. I showed up to find out that there were cars ahead of me with longer services, and my car wouldn't even be in the bay until after 9 am, and then it would be 30 minutes. 30 minutes is only guaranteed once in the bay. But why would I make an 8 am appt to have my car sit there for an hour? The store should've called me when the 730 appts came in and they knew it would push those other appts later. I could've saved my driving time and frustration. And, I got an email stating that I could reschedule my appt that I couldn't make it to. No. I made it to the appt... they just couldn't do my services as expected. I will no longer be using Pep Boys. They have lost my business. read more
