I'm leaving 1 stars because I took a brand new blouse with tags ($250+) to be altered and when I went to wear it (a month or so later) I could smell the BO before I even put it on. SOMEONE WORE MY SHIRT!!!! That is so gross and the smell is so strong I literally don't think the smell will come out! This happened in September 2025. I would be very careful taking something there if they are going to wear your clothes. Besides that they do a good job on alterations. NO WAY will I ever go there again. read more

Buyer be warned: prices have gone way up and they are downright dishonest. I've had several dresses hemmed here within the past year (always $40) and picked up one today with a simple hem and was charged $100 without warning because the "skirt was wide". This is a standard A-line dress and a standard shirt tail hem done on a machine, nothing fancy. Preciously reliable but I will not be returning. These types of price increases need to be posted. read more

I've had a couple pairs of pants taken in at the waist here. I have a bad back, and a particularly troublesome trigger point in my hip. I have to buy most of my pants a size up and have them taken in due to the extremely tight styles that are currently in. Buying the size that "fits" result in me being in a ton of pain. The first pair I had altered was fine, it was the second that has been a headache. I brought a pair of slacks in to be altered. The waist needed to be taken in, but I did not want very much taken in out of the back. The tailor originally pinned the pants at the waist and in the back. I told her the pants were too tight through the hip. She removed the pins and told me she could take the pants in at the waist without taking them in down the backside. She may have mentioned taking them in along the side hem. When I returned to pick them up, the pants were taken in down the back. They were way too tight. So I asked if she remembered our conversation. She said she did, and that she forgot to tell the person who took the waist in the specific instructions. She said she was willing to have it fixed. Great! So I offered to come back once the stitches were removed so that she could put pins in. Mistakes happen, but I wanted it to be done right this time. The tailor insisted there was no need for me to come have the pants pinned, that she knew what to do. I wasn't confident this was true, but I didn't argue. I return to pick up my pants a week later, and they were better than before, but still too tight. It's my own fault, but I decided to pay and leave even though I was pretty sure I was going to be unhappy with the pants. I am debating returning to have them fixed again. But if I am going to be charged, I'd rather take my pants somewhere else. Maybe what I wanted wasn't possible with these pants, but I wished they had just told me that from the beginning. When I originally brought the pants to see if they could be altered, I could have returned them for a full refund. Now I'm out the cost of the pants plus an extra $30 for something I cannot wear. The 1 star review is not for the mistake that was made, but for the terrible communication. The same situation with good communication and a good final solution would have gotten 4-5 stars. read more

Got a dress at Dillard's for cheap, but it was 2 sizes too big. I took the evening gown to this tailor and they did a great job! It had some draping in the top and they were able to take it in without messing up any of the dress. I think the bill ended up being about $30. Overall, they did a great job! read more

Brought in a number of items here, and had varying luck. They did a good job on a dress and a pair of pants but couldn't sew curtains so that they hung at the same length. They destroyed a friend's prom dress. So, buyer beware. read more

I've now been several times and am so pleased with the results. Last time I brought in 12 pieces and several of them were unique vintage clothes. I was beyond thrilled with the results! Most items were sized down yet for the vintage they needed a different option. The seamstress knew what to do and I'm now wearing 3 outfits that I almost donated. Yeah!!! read more

Su, the owner of Penny Custom Tailor, in my book is a miracle worker! I have probably tried at least eight tailors since I moved to Dallas six years ago, and no other tailor is as precise as Su. Since I have a men's luxury custom clothing business and often times I need some item tweaked, I trust that it will be edited/altered exactly the way it should be done. In my business there's no margin for error. Also, many of the items I buy for myself personally need to be altered as well and I wouldn't even think about going anywhere else. The seamstress at Penny did a great job with a difficult bridesmaid dress. After she'd worked on the dress, I came in and tried it on and she offered to keep working. It was still ready in time for the event, and the prices are much less than other tailors in town. read more

This is a great small tailor place! I brought in two unusual pieces (costumes, actually) that needed alterations, and she did a great job making them look exactly the way I had described and imagined.
