Unreasonable Prices - Do NOT Recommend UPDATE 3/3- DEFINITELY GO TO DIAMOND'S ALTERATIONS- they charged me $25! I usually go to Diamond Alterations, but decided to try this business while I was at Firewheel shopping today (3/2). Needed a dress hemmed about 1 inch, because it was too long, and I need it in five days, by close of business Friday. For context, provided pictures of hem and dress material tag. The male attendant 'studied' the hem (inner and outer shell) for about three minutes and then gave me an absolutely RIDICULOUS quote of $120!! I guess I'll be going to Diamond Tailor tomorrow or taking out my own sewing machine so I can get the job done in about 15-20 min (5-10 min because I'm rusty ). That is absolutely ridiculous! I'd even pay $50-$60 understanding this is a business, knowing full well the true cost is about $10, but $120?! Absolutely not. My family won't be going back and we do not recommend. read more

May is the fairy godmother of tailoring! I had gotten a stunning dress for a wedding and then found out a few days beforehand that the bride wanted me to wear something else, so I was scrambling since the new dress I had in mind needed tailoring to be a perfect fit. It was a Tuesday evening after 5 o'clock and I called multiple other tailors in the Rockwall area and every single one of them told me they couldn't get it done by Saturday with such a short turnaround time. May was probably the fifth tailor I had called and without hesitation she told me to bring it on in. The drive out to firewheel was absolutely worth it and when I got there she was so incredibly friendly and warm. I put the dress on and she knew instantly what to do. She didn't seem intimidated at all about taking the front part of the dress up and adding in cups to fill out the bodice even though the whole thing is covered in sequins. While I was there another girl who had also needed a last minute tailoring was picking up her dress and I got to see her try it on. It was obvious May had nailed the tailoring and the girl felt stunning and excited for a wedding she was flying out to the very next morning. I left the dress with her on Tuesday and came back to pick it up on Friday evening. I was delighted to try it on and have a perfect fit! May is such a gift and absolutely who you wanna to go to for your tailoring needs, especially if you've got something last minute! I will for sure be using her services in the future. read more

After looking for a new tailor to alter my suits, I decided to give this place a try since the location was favorable for me. I needed specific alterations but nothing uncommon in men's tailoring. Once the suit was fitted/marked up, I paid and left with a date to return approximately one week later. Now first, I will say that May is pleasant and the turn around to complete my alterations were a bit quicker than I expected (much appreciated). However, I was unhappy with the overall quality of work done. I expressed my concerns (with May) upon picking up/trying on my suit at the shop but we ultimately did not see eye to eye. Instead of arguing with her, I elected to leave and will not return. Again, she is very nice and probably does good work on other types of garments, but I do not think men's suits is her expertise. If the price was about $30 cheaper, maybe, but for almost $100, the work done was not on par. I will wear this suit as it is for a special occasion but will have to get the work re-done somewhere else at a later date. read more

I brought three items to be hemmed and they came out great, on time and for a reasonable price.

This is much overdue but May Allen's is by far incomparable for the timeliness and quality of service provided. I came in by recommendation and I was not disappointed. I decided to bring in a bag-full of items during PROM SEASOM ( I have a knack for peculiar planning) ,and yet, May (store-owner) was able to exceed my expectations. The boutique is nestled within the shops of Firewheel mall with an elegant and upscale aesthetic pleasing to the eye giving it a sophisticated and luxurious feel. She greeted me within an appropriate timeframe with genuine warmth which made to feel at home. The process was seamless (yes, I did that on purpose) with a spacious fitting and changing area. She even had heels to accommodate the fitting/consult process. She has a great deal of confidence in her craft (rightfully so) with over 20 years of expertise yet was able to assuage my present anxieties concerning the excution of the difficult pieces I brought in. For full transparency, the price point is dependent as any similar establishment on the garment and the work required to achieve what you are looking for and I can assure you that you are getting what you pay for: peace of mind throughout with a final product that makes you feel sensational! That being said, the investment was worth it and getting my garments back was a delight! I did over shoot on one of my items, despite her recommendations, and she still took the time to work with me to make sure I was fully satisfied! I received all my items by the expected time frame as she was transparent throughout with time requirements etc. and her current work load (again, what was I thinking? PROM SEASON? I was walking around Firewheel and just happen to come across this place. I called to see if I could come in for a suit fitting for my son and she was very accommodating. The owner was nice and attentive to detail. With a growing boy, she was able to fix the hemming, waist, and sleeves so he could use the suit again after he outgrows it. I recently bought a black formal dress that I love but is much shorter than ideal. I am a 6 footer so this comes with the territory. I really wanted it to be full length instead of trying to make a tea-length version work. I did my research and decided to come here. What compelled me to try May Allen was that she was more than a tailor but a designer. I wanted someone who wasn't just going to add the fabric because I was not sure of my options especially if I couldn't exactly match the fabric in color and quality. She has a wonderful shop. I love how well lit it is. It is very bright and clean and stylish. The dressing room is roomy with shoes to try on which cam in handy because I forgot my shoes when I came to pick up. And I appreciate that she had shoes that I could fit - I wear a size 11. Most basic tailors are very shabby and this felt more like an experience. I felt like a client. I don't know how to describe it. She can do everything from the simple hems and repairs to complete construction. Although it was expensive, I believe she was as fair as she could be. I also don't really know what is comparable as I have never been to a tailor and I also respect her craft. The work was done very well and I am very happy with the outcome. She added about nine inches all around to the hem maintaining the shape of my dress while keeping it cohesive in color and she provided the material. The first tailor I visited did not have fabric so this was also a part of what I paid for which the convenience - I appreciate. I would and do plan on returning to work with May again in the future. I can't praise May Allen enough! If I could give 10 stars, I would! I literally took a vest to 2-3 different tailors around town and all of them did not want to deal with the alteration.
