The view is beautiful. The wine is typical. But the customer service is lacking. We ordered and paid for Pinot Noir bottle because they were "too busy" for tastings. Mind you the place was empty. They opened a Chardonnay and we told them It was the wrong bottle their "fix" was to discount the next bottle . If you're going to be pretentious at least know what your wines are. read more

We loved our time with Alexis here -- she was the absolutely best! Beautiful views, flowers, and building, too. Very enjoyable atmosphere. And being the size they are, it's one of the few places nearby you can do a really good side-by-side tasting of Pinot from the different local micro-AVA's and figure out which one you like best. read more

We had an extraordinary experience at Penner and Ash Wine cellars. What a gorgeous property. we were greeted at the front door by Reid. Let me tell you he was delightful so entertaining, he greeted us with a glass of Penner & Ash Chardonnay and a song ... We were smiling from ear to ear the entire few hours that we were there. It was beautiful. Reid shuttled us into the beautiful private tasting room overlooking the Vineyard where we had a delicious food pairing with our vertical wine tasting. Reid kept us so entertained. ( we were informed that Alaska Airlines would Let us check a box of wine for free at the airport) and guess what?... they did.! This property is so gorgeous. The flower gardens are beautiful. Who doesn't like being greeted by 2 handsome young men before noon, get handed a beautiful glass of chilled Rose Pinot Noir and the only female in a wine tasting group???? Picture a hot sunny day in the beautiful Willamette Valley with rolling green hills and colorful blooms...okay, is it in your mind yet?! Good because that was me on Sunday. Ha! The adorable Donny rushed out to take our group photo, followed by Reid, (a young Philip Seymour Hoffman), with a bottle of wine & glasses. I have to say it was the best greeting I have ever received in my life and I have been to many places, but that's for another post... Once we checked in and escorted to our tasting table I put my editor hat on and started asking all of the pertinent questions. Lynn Penner-Ash and her husband opened the winery in 1998, and Lynn was the 1st female wine maker in Oregon. Woo hoo!!! You go girl!!! FYI - The "master wine hat status" was recently been passed over to Kate Ayers. Reid has been working here since 2020 and Donny for about 10 months. The energy here is intoxicating almost as much as the wine:). We all felt so at home and I personally could retire in a cute little farm house on the grounds. We were allowed to enjoy the variety of wines and scenery without any pressure to rush. Even though it was almost 100 degrees out, I preferred the breath taking view while sitting on one of the Adirondack chairs and sipping their 2018 Bella Vida Vineyard Pinot Noir. Light, smooth and delicious. Our flight included: 2021 Rose of Pinot Noir, 2018 Bella Vida Vineyard Pinot Noir, 2018 Shea Vineyard Pinot Noir, 2018 Zena Crown Vineyard Pinot Noir and 2018 Pas De Nom Pinot Noir. We were invited for a rehearsal dinner here and it was absolutely breath-taking. The family had booked out the tasting room which has a fantastic view overlooking the vineyard. The staff were incredibly on-top of it. Since it was a sit down dinner with accompanied wine pairing, each course had a different wine and the staff never let a glass go empty. I'm not the biggest or most knowledgeable wine-enthusiast; but my wife and friends said that each glass was great. The menu was amazing and had different selections of various seasonal servings. That being said I feel like there could've been small individual improvements to each course. We had the crab cakes, which I will say unlike other restaurants, had maybe too much seafood? I don't personally mind, but if you're not a huge fan of the fragrance, I could see it being overwhelming. The salad was also good, mainly the vinaigrette that was incredibly well balanced, but the whole hazelnuts was perhaps a little much. Lastly was the duck, which although seasoned well, was perhaps a little on the overcooked / dry side. We took our daughter to visit OSU as a potential school for her to attend next fall. With the Willamette valley so close, my wife and I decided to try a few wine tastings while we were in the area. Penner-Ash was the first place we stopped and it pretty much ruined all other tasting for us. It was probably one of the best, if not the best tasting experiences I've ever had. We made reservations and arrived on time. It wasn't crowded at all on a Friday morning and there was only one other couple there in the tasting area with us. Keilah was our server and she pretty much spent the entire time with us talking wine. She only left us for when she went to grab the next wine we were tasting. It was one of the more personable tasting experiences we have enjoyed. Thanks so much Keilah for making this such a memorable experience! To top it off the wines were fantastic! I'm a huge Pinot fan but it's not my wife's favorite varietal. Even she came away with a new love for Pinot Noir after our tasting here. Not to mention we ended up shipping a case home to Arizona so we could enjoy these wines when we got home. This literally ruined the rest of our tastings that day as they were cold, boring and no where near as personable. If you are in the area then you have to visit here. read more

Signature tastings of 5 wines for $25 and incredible views, Penner-Ash should be on your vineyards list if you only have one day in Willamette Valley like I did. I originally discovered one of their Pinots on a wine menu at a restaurant several years before my visit of the vineyard, in New Jersey, I believe. I remember paying a lot for it, loving it, and therefore put the vineyard on my to-visit list. The staff was very friendly, but not the most attentive. In fairness, they were very busy and we chose to sit outside, where they had to come out to re-fill our tasting glasses with 5 different wines. At various points in between tastings, I became impatient and just went inside to move onto the next, despite not wanting to leave the beautiful views from my Adirondack chair. The staff more than compensated us by providing a few extra tastings and waiving both tasting fees with the purchase of a $65 bottle. read more

Our early 11;00 AM reservation allowed us to usurp Ben and ask tons of questions and get personal attention. It was wonderful. The Willamette Valley is gorgeous, and Penner-Ash took advantage of the views when they built their winery. The cold and rain disappeared, as we cozy upped to the fireplace. The wines helped also, Penner-Ash having some of the best rated bottles in the Pacific Northwest. We tasted a variety of excellent bottles, but fell in love with the Viognier and the reds from the eminent Shea Vineyard. The vibe of this place is luxury and the people are awesome ... both the customers and people who work there, all were down to earth. Reed was the employee who poured for us and he is AWESOME. Yes, the views are fabulous. Yes the fireplace is cozy in the winter and the patio lovely in summer, but beyond that I wasn't too impressed. For me, $25 for 5 tastings is steep. Yes these are expensive bottles of wine they are pouring, but when I go wine tasing I expect to have a bit more variety in price points. And while their pinots were tasty, I didn't think they were worth the prices. I've had pinots from wineries just down the road I enjoyed more for way less. Also, the fact that they do not do pours by the glass is another downside for me. They said they used to but stopped recently. No food is allowed indoors, but you can picnic outside. No food available for purchase here. Bottom line: You will pay a premium for the nice view. read more

Went here on Sunday afternoon. The place is buzzing. We tried their rose and 4 pinot noirs. They also have a number of small tasting items. We tried their meatballs​, yummi. The place is not big but they have a good back patio and had a one-man band to provide some ambiance. We enjoyed the wine. Did not find any "wow" wines but enjoyed the tasting experience. After visiting 10 plus wineries in beautiful Willamette Valley, I would have to say Penner-Ash was our favorite. Penner-Ash offers top notch wine, service, tasting areas and views that will blow your mind. Over the years we've enjoyed a good number of bottles of Penner-Ash wines but my hubby and I had not made a trip to the winery until last week. BOTTOM LINE: Great wine, remarkable views, a beautiful and accessible tasting room....GO...drink some wine, buy some wine, you'll love it. TASTING THE WINES: There were six wines in the tasting flight at a cost of $10. (Not refunded with purchase. More on that below.) The six were Viognier, Syrah, Rubeo, Dussin Vineyards Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. Rubeo was the wine that introduced us to Penner-Ash. It remains one of our favorites for a great bottle at a good price. Winery price is about $20 and available by retail for less. A wine writer called this Syrah / Pinot Noir blend an "irreverent" wine. That meant as a compliment for this approachable and versatile wine balanced with nice tannins and lush flavor. Even if they're not sampling it at the tasting room when you go, you won't be disappointed if you purchase a bottle of Rubeo blind and take it home to try it. (Or drop by our house, we always have Rubeo on hand!) STAFF: The tasting room staff was so knowledgeable about wine and passionate about the products of Penner-Ash it was delightful to talk with her and the other customers there for tasting. THE SETTING: Stunning view from this facility and the tasting room is warm welcoming in spite of the contemporary design. In some hands this can be too stark, but the Penner-Ash design it is just right. Also from the tasting room you can see into some of the production facility on the level below which has the sense of opening up the space and adding to the "winey" ambiance both. Go peek in the fireplace / private use room right off the tasting room and see the views from there. ACCESSIBILITY: Great to see how perfectly done is the Penner-Ash facility for equal access for people of all abilities. No surprise, we guess, given the high quality they use for all else to be extended to this too. From the parking lot, to the walkway into the tasting room, to the bi level tasting bar (that is one part lowered so people at seated height can access it) it was "spot on". In making this universal access so seamless, Penner-Ash in essence, posts a sign that says "All people are welcome here". Good for them! ONE DRAWBACK: We think tasting fees are good things for many reasons. But wine buyers pay more for wine at the winery than any other retail channel and winemakers make the biggest per bottle profit from those sales. As semi-serious wine drinkers and serious supporters of small farmers, we don't mind paying more for wine at wineries to support farmers and food artisans as wine makers are both. But, we feel "used"when we pay more to purchase wine at a tasting room to extend our support, to not have the tasting fee refunded with our purchases. We hope Penner-Ash will consider modifying their no fee refund policy. As it is now, it is the reason for a four and not five star review. read more

We has a fantastic tasting with Philippe, our server. He was super knowledgeable not only about the wines but also, as a former chef, about what foods to make that pair well with those wines. Our group of 6 enjoyed a private seated tasting of 7 wines. I have an eye for architecture and really enjoyed the open, spacious, earthy and natural feel of this place. Has a Frank Lloyd Wright feel to it. Gorgeous! Our host was very knowledgeable and put up with the antics of 6 very loud people, guiding us nicely through each of the offerings. The wines were amongst the best we had over a 3-day trek through Willamette Valley wine country. The hands-down favorite and probably best Pinot Noir of our trip was the 2015 Pas de Nom. OMG! Despite us arriving late in the afternoon, they allowed us purchase a bottle of Pinot Noir and enjoy the amazing view of the valley below. We came on a clear day and could clearly see Mounts Hood and Franklin. Although we overstayed our time, none of the staff batted an eye. We felt very welcomed here. Hands down our favorite tour and tasting. Penner-Ash was stop #1 out of the 4 we had planned for the day. Our trip was at the end of August and the gentleman with the broken hand took care of us. The tasting is $15 for 5 flights. Our guy had a broken hand so not sure if that's why he gave us heavy pours or because he enjoyed our company :) Halfway through our tasting a free tour was provided. He gave us an extra heavy pour for the tour. We got a chance to see the barrels and hear how their wines are made before going outdoors to see and taste the grapes. I didn't want to venture out in the rain for the tour but he made it worthwhile. We got to sample the different grapes straight off the vines and they were delicious! Sweet and crisp. At the end of the tour the other two couples left in a hurry and we stayed behind to enjoy our last glass. During this time the nice gentleman insisted we try their premium limited edition wines. Don't mind if we do!
