Our visit to Laurel Ridge Winery was one of the most memorable experiences of our Oregon wine trip. Set on a beautiful 240-acre estate in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA, this second-generation, family-owned winery embodies everything that makes Oregon wine country special -- authenticity, passion, and a deep respect for the land. We were greeted warmly by Kira Teppola, who now carries on the legacy started by her father, founder David Teppola. From the moment she began sharing her family's story -- from her father's early fascination with French wine to his pioneering belief in the Willakenzie Loam soils -- we were captivated. Kira's knowledge of the land, the vines, and the winemaking process was extraordinary. Her enthusiasm was contagious; we hung on every word and felt truly connected to the spirit of Laurel Ridge. Even the family vineyard dog, who was initially a bit cautious, became our friend by the end of the visit! The wines were exceptional. My favorite was the 2017 Barrel Select Pinot Noir, beautifully balanced and expressive of the terroir. We enjoyed it so much we opened a bottle that very night. The next day, I couldn't stop thinking about the bright, refreshing 2023 Sauvignon Blanc, so we went back just to buy more! Kira graciously set us up with a picnic table outside under a heat lamp so we could enjoy lunch overlooking the estate -- and even poured us a little more wine "so we wouldn't get thirsty." It's rare to find a place that feels this genuine -- where every glass tells a story, and every detail reflects generations of care. On a road trip from MA to Washington, we were passing through when we realized we had not tried any Oregon wines yet. We stopped by without a reservation for a tasting and Kira was so welcoming and friendly to us. She gave us perfectly detailed descriptions of each of the wines included in the tasting and asked us about our wine preferences to try to tailor it better to us. We also got a charcuterie board and we were very pleased with both the charcuterie and wines. If we lived in the area, we would absolutely join their wine club. read more

Stephanie was our wine pourer and she gave us an awesome experience. She was very knowledgeable and extremely kind and personable. We were late for our 4pm tasting (they close at 5pm) and they treated us no differently. They took their time, answered all of our questions and engaged us just as if we were the first appointment of the day. The mushroom cheese was delicious! This is a beautiful tasting room with furry friends roaming around (I'm an animal lover myself so that was a huge plus)! Our second time up there we got Kailee as our server and it was arguably one of the best wine tasting experiences I've ever had. She was informative, attentive and personable our entire visit and really connected with our small group that took the experience to the next level! And having the cutest vineyard puppy ever to love on while sipping our wine was just the cherry on top. I've never been to the winery, but a big thank you to the Yelpers who've posted pictures - this looks like a wonderful post-pandemic destination. Despite not having visited, we are familiar with their wine. For several years, the Laurel Ridge folks have been selling their Twin Forks label wines at the Hollywood Farmer's Market in Portland. What's not to like about sampling wine at 10:30 on a Saturday morning? For as long as we've been drinking Twin Forks, the Rose has been our usual choice. We find this to be a perfect patio selection. More recently, we've expanded our buying to the Twin Forks red blend and the Pinot Noir. The red is rich and full bodied, and the Pinot has more character than a lot of the Oregon Pinots that I've had. It was our choice for the 2020 Thanksgiving meal. I believe they are not at the Farmer's Market during the Winter, but their reappearance is one of the signs of Spring that I always look forward to. read more

We visited this winery on a tour with Evergreen Escapes. We were greeted at the door by Beatrice, the wine dog, and she was the best hostess in the world. She's a great dog and seriously gets up from wherever she's lounging to greet each person as they walk in. It's a very relaxing place. It is very warm and friendly, too. We were served by Barbara and she did an amazing job of explaining all our tastings and the winery itself. She made us feel like we were honored guests, not just customers. I'm not the biggest Pinot Noir fan, but that's the main game in the Oregon wine region. I enjoyed the LR wines despite it not being my favorite type of wine. Interestingly, you should ask to see the dogs of the wineries book. Beatrice is in it. We met the owner Susan and she came over to hug/greet us. She was great and chatted with us for a while. She told us about how most everyone who works there is in the family and about her late husband David's passion for the winery. It was wonderful to feel so welcome. We had a great time here and brought home a bottle of the 2014 Double Clone Pinot Noir. read more

We had a reservation for a tasting and tour for 5 people at Laurel Ridge for my mother-in-law's 50th birthday. We were promptly greeted by Lucas, the wine maker for Laurel Ridge, who not only created and served amazing wine but did so with a welcoming and joyous ambiance. The tour was nothing short of amazing, demonstrating the importance of Lucas and his family members' roles. Lucas shared the history of Laurel Ridge, highlighting his father-in-law, mother-in-law and his wife, and how they established in Carlton and Bend. As someone who typically does not choose to drink red wine, I will continue to recommend Laurel Ridge Pinot noir moving forward. If you are looking for a welcoming environment to enjoy wine that is incredible, we highly recommend Laurel Ridge. I wanted to enjoy this winery. But I knew going in to the experience it was a downhill battle. We were judged the minute my boyfriend and wheelchair bound father walked in. At first the hostel was pleasant but the man working that day (12/19) was extremely condescending and rude to our party. At one point he even "came after us" and my friend put his elbow up to stop him. This was frustrating as we had been to two previous wineries before hand that had amazing customer service. They have asked us to never come back and honestly we will never. They don't have to worry about that. If you are a very small group, go, but a bigger party then 2 Or 3 please save your time and dollars. read more

I stopped by Laurel Ridge during some free time and was not disappointed! they have numerous tastings available with fantastic wine; one tasting even comes with paired foods to showcase the wine with. If you have an affinity towards sweeter wines then their Late Harvest dessert wine is heavenly. Our server, Kailee, capped off the aforementioned strong points by providing exemplary customer service and displayed her extensive knowledge of all wines and the winery. The tasting room itself is gorgeous and has numerous tables both inside and out (with heaters and blankets provided for outside seating). If the rolling hills don't capture all your attention then their wonderful, gentle pets would love a pet or two if they happen to make an appearance. I highly recommend Laurel Ridge and would make time to visit or you'll surely miss out on one of the top experiences in all of Yamhill Valley. read more

This was the second winery on our tour with Embrace Oregon. As promised, this boutique winery did not disappoint. Laurel Ridge is lovely inside and out. The tasting room is spacious yet manages to be cozy and inviting with a lot of room at the tasting counter. The wines were all very good and both me and my pal Jeannie J. were delighted that they had a bubbly. I went back for seconds on that. This is also the winery that Sherry, our awesome tour guide brought out the picnic she brought for us. There was a nice sized table that accommodated us. In addition to really nice wines, they had some cute wine related items for sale such as great smelling candles, chocolates and sequined T-shirts. Disappointing experience! We made a reservation for two parties of 5, and called to see that the tables be near one another. Understanding we could only have 5 people at a table. Which while on the phone, they shared was absolutely possible. When we arrived we were told that there is a policy and we have to buy a 1/2 a case if all ten people are together. When we shared that we were not made aware of that policy when we called, they were not willing to honor their previous conversation with us. When we asked if our tables could be beside one another... they said that was not possible at all. The customer service was condescending and aggressive. Very uncomfortable and unfriendly experience. Beautiful smaller winery in the valley with an incredible story! Such a CUTE and homey venue. This winery has major roots in the area and is more popular than you would think. If possible, I would recommend requesting to sit close to the building, on the permanent patio versus the tents and picnic tables. I attended a wedding here 2 nights ago. The setup is beautiful. There's nothing like having nothing but fields, mountains and lush greenery as far as the eye can see - while drinking good wine and eating great food. At dusk, the sky was the most azul blue, and the backdrop didn't have a power pole or building in sight. The rose and sparkling wine they served were excellent. The catering staff they used also served a delicious meal of pork or fish and risotto, salads and breads. On days like that of the wedding, they could use more than one restroom, but other than that, there wasn't really a down side. There is plenty of parking, lots of room to wander - inside and out - and the drive isn't too far off the beaten path. I would like to come back here on a Saturday; to wine taste in a smaller setting. All in all, Laurel Ridge did a wonderful job hitching the new bride and groom - without a hitch. read more

Our second visit on this trip to wine country found us at Laurel Ridge Winery in Carlton. We didn't realize we had been here once before (in 2008) until we drove up to the property. We were the only ones here. The entire time. That wasn't a bad thing. Upon entering the tasting room we were greeted by the guy who we soon found out was Chris, one of the winemakers. We specifically came here because they had Port and dad and I both like Port. We immediately jumped into a tasting and started out with the Port. Usually you start out with whites, but we were on a mission. They offered 2 Ports. One of the Tawny variety and one of the Ruby variety. I haven't found many that make Ports around here, but Chris told us of another place that we will have to try another time. After that we just ended up tasting a bunch of their other wines. Everything from a Tempranillo to a few Rieslings they hadn't even released yet. The Rieslings of the late harvest variety were both very tasty, but the bottles hadn't been labeled yet and therefore Chris couldn't sell them to us. Dad left his information so that he could get a few bottles shipped to him once they are for sale. Anything we wanted to try, Chris was happy enough to open up a bottle and pour. He even drank with us. He was happy to answer any questions we had and even poured us some of their sparkling wine (don't think this is for sale) that they had on tap and which we ultimately drank when we sat outside to eat the lunch we had brought with us. I ended up buying a bottle of wine that I had never heard of before. A Tinto Roiz. It is a Portuguese varietal commonly used in the production of Port. A bit more money than I usually spend on a bottle of wine, but I'll save it for a special occasion. They lose a star because the grapes are not coming from the grounds that this winery sits on. They lost their crop many years ago, but have plans to plant again soon. In the meantime most of their grapes are coming from Walla Walla, WA. Stop in. Say hello to Chris. Wow! What a wonderful place. We were greeted by the winery dog on arrival. The tasting room and property are both incredible! They are not seating anyone inside, so have added outdoor seating under tents for shade. We had great weather, except for a little wind, it was a very comfortable and pleasant experience. The view was spectacular. Service was friendly and prompt. We enjoyed all of the tastings, but preferred the barrel select pinot noir, so ordered a glass to finish our picnic box. The wine was good, and reasonably priced! Reservations are required, but were easy to get online. You can also reserve a picnic box, which you get to choose salami or prosciutto upon arrival. You get a whole package of meat! The box also included croccantini crackers, apricot preserves, salted hazelnuts, Boom Chicka salted popcorn, Beecher's flagship cheese, brie, chocolate covered nuts, and chocolate truffles. If I could rate 0 stars I would. We didn't even get to our seats before we decided to leave. We made reservations prior for our party of 10 and were aware we would have to sit at two separate tables. The gentleman working was not accommodating and was trying to push us into their "large group policy" just to sit near each other which requires purchasing half a case of wine. The alternative was to sit across an empty room from each other for no reason like we were toddlers in time out. All in all any smart business owner would not turn down over $400 in gross revenue for a rainy Sunday. Overly poor service, we left immediately and opted for another one of the finer wineries in the area. Don't go here. read more

A dismal representation of customer service by Lucas. We scheduled two separate reservation for 2 groups of 5 people in advance. Upon arrival a gentleman told us that if we wanted to sit at the same table, we would have to purchase half a case as a minimum. We politely informed them that we could sit at separate tables. With an empty tasting room, they refused to seat us next to the other party of five. Stating that we would have to sit across the room otherwise we would have to purchase a half case. I hope management takes a good look at their front of house and how they treat customers. You have to be better than that. read more

I have been enjoying their rose for some time now, thanks to a friend that is a wine club member. We were doing some pre-thanksgiving tastings in the area, and had Patrica Green Cellars and Ken Wright on our destination list (Laurel Ridge being in between the two). Unfortunately, both Ken Wright and Patricia Green closed an hour early (the 2nd time I have been to the area and Ken Wright closed early). We ended up bringing our party of 4 to Laurel Ridge and we were so pleasantly surprised! The service was outstanding from each and every person we came across. The food bites we had with each of the wines were all outstanding. We met the owner, signed up for the wine club and very much look forward to our next trip! read more

If you have read any of my reviews, you know I am not one to gush. But I have to tell you, this was likely one of the best wine tasting experiences I have ever had. And over the last 30 years, I have had hundreds of experiences at both large and small wineries in at least ten states. plus Canada. I stopped by on a Tuesday at around 11am on my way back to the Portland area. When I arrived I was alone in the tasting room for 5 to 10 minutes which another reviewer was critical of. But the dogs were entertaining hosts and it is a beautiful location so show some patience. Also, I greatly dislike the typical retail experience where they usher you in, slam some wine and go for the close, moving on to the next customer. In this case, I had the good fortune of being the only customer there and the great fortune of getting to work with/chat with the owner. She was delightful. The two dogs were really friendly but not all over me. Jake, a boxer, was a friendly & affection hungry dog ;o). Beatrice, a border collie, was good natured and just wanted to hang out. The moral of the story? Don't go wine tasting if you are in a hurry. Just relax and have some fun. The wines were lovely. Usually when someone tells me they are going to start out with their entry level wine, in this case a Pinot Noir, I brace myself for the worst. I tried three Pinot Noirs here. They were all delicious! I thought they were the best of several in the area. Nice setting & pretty convenient location. Many other wineries in the immediate area without long drives.
