The staff really do care about your experience and seemed to cater to what you might like. But it's hard when they all taste good! This was our last stop on a Club Share day out in Carlton. Let me start by saying, I probably would have enjoyed it more if it had been our first stop. It's cute inside, friendly staff but the tastings consisted of 1 white and the rest Pinot. Unfortunately, we had just came from lunch where we overate and previous to that, a winery that had superior wines. The tastings would have been $50 and honestly, I didn't like any of the Pinots enough to warrant a $80 retail. We had a wonderful time wine tasting at Patricia Green. The day started off on the wrong foot because my reservation was mistakenly made for 10am instead of 11am and I had the wrong phone number listed in my reservation (both my fault). The winery could have refused to serve us but Colin was kind and gracious and found a way to accommodate us which I'm very grateful for. Our host Telka was fantastic. She was friendly and knowledgeable. She also smartly asked what other places we were visiting so she could keep us on track. We learned a lot from the information she shared about the wine making process, the vineyards and the region in general. The wines were excellent and I bought some. We came here after a tasting at Domaine Serene, which was not very good and kind of expensive. Patricia Green blew them out of the water. Service was much friendlier and available and interesting. The wine was also much better ... clean and delicious. It was much more of what I thought an Oregon, relaxed and casual, hip and cool winery would be like. We bought several bottles to ship home ... planned to get theee bottles and they gave us a really good discount to get a fourth, which we gladly took advantage of. read more

This was our first stop on a wine tour by Oregon Wine Guides, and it was a great stop to kick off our day. This was part of our anniversary trip, and Patricia Green Cellars is such a beautiful property. I usually do not sit outside, but the patio on the property is gorgeous. Looking out on the vineyards right outside is a beautiful backdrop to enjoy some of their wines. One of the highlights was the lovely woman who helped us. She was courteous but also a great conversationalist. She shared information about the wines we were drinking, the property, history, and how their production usually flows. To us, that is part of what makes this area unique. In some over-commercial wine areas, the employees just pour the wine and move on to the next person. In Newberg, you can sense the passion and dedication to their craft. We thoroughly enjoyed speaking with the employees here and all the information they shared. With the wines and the area, you most likely are coming here for the pinot noirs. They did not disappoint and we ended up buying a few to ship home. We didn't know what the expect before heading to Patricia Green Cellars for our scheduled tasting, but let me tell you, this beat all of our expectations. Tasting fee: $40 per person ($50 for shared tastings), which includes a flight of 5-7 wines with a small cheese pairing. One tasting fee will be waived for each purchase of 6 bottles. Service: Talk about passion! Our tasting was so incredible, we learned so much and were able to try some really fantastic and diverse wines. Had a rare free Sat and decided to go to a winery for a tasting. Heard good things about Patricia Green Cellars so decided to walk in. Reservations are taken, but we didnt really plan it. The wine country near Newberg is stunning so the short ride out was lovely. Be sure to keep your eye on the map bc you can pass the driveway into the winery is a blink of an eye. The tasting room is so cozy when you come in. Seating is half indoors and equal amount outdoors. I think you can even bring your own food as I saw a party with to-go boxes at a picnic table. Ask before showing up bc I'm not certain. As you enter the tasting room, you're casually greeted by the nicest staff. I didnt feel pounced on. It was more like a 'Oh hey, welcome in' greeting that felt natural. The ambiance is so cozy and warm. Felt like walking into someone's really nice cabin instead of a business. And the furniture was so comfortable! Our wine tasting guide was Ryan and he was AMAZING! So knowlegeable, passionate about his craft and took the time to sit and chat with us. We started out with a xomplimentary Sav Blanc that was so lite and crisp. Then the tasting started and we had 6 different Pinot Noirs from all the different regions of the Willamette Valley. They even provide a map so get a visual of where the grapes are grown. The wines were fantastic. So silky and easy to drink. Low tanins, which I like. I'd say more New Worl vs Old World, but I'm no expert by any means. All I know was that they were delicious, easy to drink, and paired nicely with the complimentary salty cheese plate. I forgot to take a pic of the menu, but we ended up getting the Medici wine. In my mind I will pair it with some mussels or a lite cioppino. We even got to taste a few wines that were not on the menu which was really nice. I prefer Whites to Reds so I got to taste an Oregon Chardonnay that is NOT oak-ey. It was so nice. Ultimately we got a 2nd bottle called 'Mysterious' bc the fruit comes from a nearby and well respected farm that wishes to keep private. But we've heard its remarkable from some wine enthusiast friends that live in the area too... By the time we left, we were surprised to realize we had spent 3 hours there! We never felt rushed nor ignored with an empty glass. It truly was a lovely leisurely Sat of sipping wine and making new friends. We will be back, hopefully in Sept to see the harvest in action! This is a beautiful fun casual tasting room focused on the wine. Their wine was excellent and they have a huge selection. It was our last winery to visit on our 8-day visit to taste in the Willamette Valley and a great way to end it. Aubrey was our host and was very engaging and did a lot of pours for us. We had shipped a lot of wine back plus had our 12 bottle wine suitcase full so didn't buy any, but will be on the lookout for it on visits to our local wine shop. read more

When she was little and something unfathomably sad happened, my niece would say "My heart is cracking." And so mine is to type this news: Patricia Green, the co-founder and co-owner of this fantastic winery, a wonderful and talented woman, died on last week. She was only 62. I thought it worth posting this news here so that people who might visit the winery would know they are all grieving who work there and knew and loved her. In fact all of us who were fans of Patty and her work are grieving. Jim Anderson, her founding and ownership partner, reported the cause of death is suspected to be from a fall when she was alone in her cabin in Roseburg. My rating here carries forward the one from my original post; for the woman Patty was and for the wine she and the team at Patricia Green Cellars produced. Our hearts are cracking that she is gone. Our best wishes for healing through sharing of grief go out to all her family in and outside of Patricia Green Cellars. From my first review: "WINEMAKER Part of our affection for Patricia Green wines has to do with the winemaker herself. We've had a chance to meet her at a couple of winery events and she has a personality, smile and laugh that lights up a space. Patricia Green is an amazing winery to visit. The staff is super, environment for tastings is fantastic, and the wines are among the best made in this region. Very low key and humble family owned winery. It is a shame that Patricia Green left us too soon. The winery appears to be doing a great job of honoring her spirit and commitment to wine making. This is small production wine at its best - mostly Pinot Noir plus some a small amount of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. They're only open twice per year for public tastings but check out the website ahead of time and you can set up a private tasting appointment or even potentially a barrel tasting with the winemaker Jim. There is a charge for the private tastings but if you buy a certain amount of wine it will be waived - if you're really into wine you'll definitely want to take home a half case or more so bring your wine suitcase. You know you have one (or two) - or maybe that's just me... It's not exactly cheap wine (bottles prices are $25-85 with the most common around $40) but it's a good value Pinot Noir which is higher priced due to small yields in the vineyard and a lot of work to make great wine. The folks here are truly dedicated to their craft which includes Margaret and the Marketing staff who you may interact with. I understand The Allison sends a number of guests here and while the winery buildings are not nearly as posh as The Allison it's a clear fit for visitors who want to taste at a small artisan winery that truly makes some of the best stuff in Oregon. You'll find that PGC is the prototypical "grape farmers" who then make wine as naturally as possible - not a great way to get rich (see instead The Prisoner or Charles Smith or a number of others) but the wine is really good and it's wineries like this that have made the Willamette Valley what it is. If you're in the area I can't recommend a visit to PGC highly enough - I've been a number of times. And remember, if you want to sound like a local... Willamette rhymes with dammit. :) read more

Come for the wine, stay for the doggos! Zoe, Maggie, Sam, and Chompers joined us as we sampled wine while overlooking the vineyards. We appreciated that the tastings were pre-poured so that we could self-pace the experience. We all took bottles with us, including a really good "still" rose and many Pinot noirs. Caroline was super friendly and answered our many, many wine questions. Several of our party also joined the waitlist for the waitlist for the wine club. Of all the wine clubs we are members of I think this is one of my favorites. For one, they offer an exhaustive number of pinots grown in different conditions. I really love tasting the different properties of the wines and there's a wide variation in price allowing one to pick up more affordable bottles of pinots. Additionally, I always find the tastings very pleasant and informative and have found the winery (and their awesome winery pooches) very welcoming. Pre covid they also offered a cheese sampler with the wines, which was lovely. I hope this will come back when we can say goodbye to Covid, however even during the times of Covid I have found the winery does an excellent job with social distancing, tastings during a pandemic, etc. We were placed on a waitlist to join the club and have thus far, been very pleased with the club and offerings. This is a really cute, low-key winery with a great unpretentious vibe. Bonus points for two suuuuuper sweet and adorable dogs on the property! We were able to make a reservation within an hour of calling the place, and really appreciated that we could do a tasting with minimal contact during Covid - pouring our own glasses, etc. Service was very friendly and the view was amazing, love it! read more

I have yet to visit the winery itself but I am a big fan of Patricia Green and her team. I had the pleasure of meeting her at a winemaker dinner at Soif in Santa Cruz a couple years ago and not only are her wines spectacular but she is really laid back and funny. I mean, they have schwag with the tagline "Women Taste Better." You gotta love that. Very limited production wines and worth every penny. I almost hate to do a review because they're so hard to get anyway...but I liked her too much to not let the world know. Open only by appointment, with a couple of exceptions for holidays. read more

So it is to my understanding that you must have a reservation at this cellar aside from Thanksgiving weekend where they open to the public. Man... well they make the visit during Thanksgiving weekend worth it and it was PACKED!!! To start... question how many wines you will be tasting. My husband and I both go our own when we should have split. For $25 we tasted 14 different wines, all Pinot Noirs!!!! Can you say "Holy Cow?!!" We definitely left the place a little "tipsy." Plus their wines are really good here, I think we left with 4 bottles. (Also, some very good moderately priced bottles here! They have some expensive reserve bottles but I don't agree with the 3 $ here on yelp. We paid about $200 for 4 bottles and 2 tastings. Good Oregon Pinot usually starts around $50 and tastings are usually $15 for 6-7 wines.) Anyways, they made stations on all sides on the barrel room. It's kind of a garage area where they leave the doors open so be sure so dress weather appropriate. They had 3 tables of wine with a HUGE spread of cheese, meats, crackers and fruit. It was so busy that unfortunately we probably didn't get to talk to the people pouring as much as we would have liked but it was fun to mingle among all other wine-os! These are wine professionals with wine quality as their guiding star. It also seems like the people who work their enjoy each other and their jobs. Wow! This was our favorite winery that we visited. We ultimately signed up for their wine club and we are thoroughly enjoying so many of Patricia Green's wines. This is a delayed review as we visited in February. The tasting came with some delicious cheese bites, but the pinots were amazing. We visited at least 15 vineyards during our trip and the wines at Patricia Green were the best. The staff also clearly love the wine and their passion shows. This is a must visit. We also enjoyed White Rose, but Patricia Green was our favorite. read more

Me too! I've haven't had the chance to make it up to Oregon to visit her winery, but I'm a big fan of Patricia Green. The 2009 vintage Pinot Noir is like velvet. It will run you about $35.00, but it's well worth it. If you can get a hold of the Sauvignon Blanc it's outstanding. Not your typical SB. It's very clean and fresh. No grassy notes or overdone citrus and oak. A really refreshing wine. Yes, they have a limited production, so be sure to stock up if you see it. read more

One of my 2 favorite wineries in the valley. Cute new tasting room, with friendly dogs! Every single wine is unique and delicious. Definitely make a reservation for a private tasting or go during their twice a year open house, pre-thanksgiving and memorial day, which are really worth hitting up. The Reserve is my go to daily drinker, while the Notorious is my special occasion bottle! Sav Blanc is also amazing nice and cold in the summer and a real crowd pleaser when I bring it as my party guest! read more

** Great Wines ** The Allison Inn & Spa coordinated our private tasting here. When we arrived, we weren't sure we were in the right place. Our tasting was held in the front room of an older split level home. You have to love dogs to visit - there were 4 dogs running around, and the house kinda smelled of dog pee/wet dog. Fortunately, we love dogs and Patricia Green Cellar wines so it was all good. We loved the wines and ended up buying a case and I think we even joined the wine club. I LOVE Patty Green wines! She makes several Pinot Noirs. Some I like better than others, but really they are all good! If someone offered me any Patricia Green wine I would not turn it down! Yes, please! My faves are both of the Balcombes, Notorious , Freedom Hill (all of them), and the etzel. I am not a white wine kind of girl, but I love her Sauvignon Blanc. There are not many wine makers that make Sauvignon Blanc here in Oregon. Hers is the best. Really good paired with oysters. There is not a tasting room and they are only open a few weekends a year, which makes it all the more special. Although I believe you may be able to call and set up an appointment. We go every Memorial Day weekend and taste and then order futures to pick up in November. People that work there, Mattie, Connie and others are super nice and friendly. This is one of the Best in Oregon. If you get a chance to go to one of the events you totally should. You will be hooked! read more

I waited all year to go to taste Patty Green's wines. The suspense was killing me, since I don't seem to find her wines in any stores and her winery in Newberg is only open on the day after Thanksgiving. She seems to have established a good reputation for herself according to the Oregonian Winepress. Well, I paid my $20 to get in, I don't think her wines are bad at all, they all smell pretty "inky" and taste inky, which is not bad, but they all tasted somewhat "watered down" (Pinots are supposed to be delicate but not watered down), also they were lacking in length and the tartaric acid was very prominent in all of them but the "Notorious 07 Pinot Noir" and the "Eason 07 Pinot Noir" which I guess were ok, but not worth my year's anticipation. I would probably have these wines with food, but I don't think I would like to purchase and drink a whole bottle. As for "Women taste better", I guess it depends which team you are "batting for" ;). read more

We found this wonderful winery through the Paul Gregutt article "The State of Oregon Pinot Noir". The wine itself is complex and delicious - during our tasting of six wines, 1 was chardonnay, and 5 were pinot noir from different vineyards and clones. As Californians, we especially enjoyed the Estate Waldensvil Block wine and Notorious pinot blends since they differ from what we are used to. But the highlight of our tasting was the beautiful new tasting room (1 month old), the nice cheese plate, and Ryan! Ryan is especially courteous, personable and knowledgable about the winery, and winemaking. ....and to top off the experience, we had the serendipitous fortune that we had met Ryan in California just a few months ago when he was working at his family winery. We were lucky enough to get to go to an open house. BEST wines we had all weekend wine tasting and I'm talking about 50+ tastes people. The employees are super friendly and seemed glad to be there and share/talk about the wines. They even opened up their personal wine. Not available to the public but just for them. Singularity. I would marry and have Singularity's babies if that was possible. Probably the best wine that's ever touched my lips. Now I've got to find out how to get their stuff in SJ. read more

We had a long anticipated visit to Patricia Green Cellars for the Memorial Day open house. Upon checking in, we were told there would be an extra charge for sharing a tasting! We have done this in dozens of wineries throughout California, Oregon, and Washington, and never had to pay extra to be prudent when spending the day tasting. This was not us being cheap, this was us limiting our alcohol consumption while touring the wine country. Yes there was some cheese and crackers out, but every winery had that for the open houses. We declined and I decided to go ahead and try the tasting while my partner abstained. Unfortunately, there were no present releases for tasting only "futures" that one could buy and pick up in November. Since we live on the east coast, this was not feasible so we left empty- handed. As a side note, one earlier reviewer mentioned the "women taste better" slogan which is plastered everywhere on t-shirts, bumper stickers, etc. We are by far not prudes, but this is really a bit much and a turn-off. read more
