The food is great, service is great location is great, I'm giving it a 5 and wondering why it has been voted down to 3.5. My daughter goes to school nearby, or we wouldn't have tried it based on score!

PP reminds me of your standard Greek restaurant. Not very impressive, that is, until our food came out. Then I knew it we were in business : ) My "go to" every time I visit a new Italian restaurant is spaghetti and meatballs. The waitress recommended the sausage, so I went with it, and I was not disappointed. The marinara sauce was excellent as was the sausage. Everyone in our group enjoyed their entree, especially the vodka sauce. Worth trying.

A view of the kitchen. You can thank me later.

Penne Pomodoro is close to being an institution in Snider Plaza. What I mean is that Penne, if memory serves me correctly, has been in Snider Plaza for over twenty years. It hasn't been around as long as some of the other long-standing restaurants in Snider such as Kuby's Sausage House and Amore Italian, but it's longevity demonstrates that it has been adopted by the folks who frequent SP. Some years ago, I used to spend a lot of time in SP since I lived a block away for a couple of years. I never considered restaurants there as "destination" type of eateries serving dishes that you'd lobby for a Michelin star. Most of the joints were good based on "neighborhood" restaurant standards and you could get a tasty meal without a lot of reservation drama and putting on your Sunday best. The same holds true for Penne Pomodoro. In our most recent last minute, walk-in, visit on a Wednesday night, most tables were full of folks that looked like they were from the surrounding area (families, kids, and grandma and grandpa), as well as a number of tables occupied by students from nearby SMU. On that night, we were looking for quick and easy; we weren't looking for a production. The menu offers Italian-type fare ranging from Bruschetta to cripsy mozzarella; chicken parmigiana to grilled salmon; pizza; create your own pasta to lobster ravioli; and an assortment of sides and sandwiches. On our visit I ordered Focaccia bread (which they forgot until reminded), and Red Snapper Livornese. Both were what I expected; good and satisfying, but nothing out of the ordinary for a solid neighborhood joint. So if you're in the area, looking for a pleasant meal, without a 4-week reservation wait, give Penne a try. And if you're in the mood, give the nearby area a walk and guess where I used to live.

Yes I highly recommend this place , the mangers and staff are very friendly. The waitress we had always helps us with our meals. This place is very romantic . The freshest food you can order. I recommend the green pasta lasagna. It a must to have .

I came here for lunch and built my own pasta with penne, bolognese, and sausage. I also split the calamari appetizer with a friend. Everything was good - the aioli sauce that came with our calamari complemented the fried dish really well. The pasta was good but nothing outstanding. I do not think adding a protein on your pasta is necessary - a little pricy and the bolognese sauce already had ground meat in it. We were served quickly and offered bread and an olive oil dip, which was alright. We sat inside because it was really hot at the time we came but I would recommend sitting outside - the outdoor dining area is cute and better lit compared to the indoor seating area.

We started with the focaccia bread (5/5). Wow--this might be some of the best bread I've ever had. Perfectly crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and the dip was delicious. I usually try not to fill up on bread before the entrées arrive, but we made sure to finish every bite. We also ordered the burrata salad (5/5), which was a very generous portion and absolutely delicious. I would definitely order it again. For our entrées, my friend and I shared the chicken piccata and the bolognese. The chicken piccata was a 5/5 for me, while the bolognese was a 4.5/5. Both dishes were excellent and I'd happily order either again. This visit was a completely different experience from my first one, and I'm glad I came back. I'd love to return with my husband sometime.

It was a little too windy and hot for us, so we hurried downstairs to enjoy dinner afterwards. I'm sure the rooftop is much more comfortable during different weather conditions, and they can't control the weather, so don't let that deter you. The dining room was packed! We didn't have reservations, so we ended up at the bar, but the bar tender, Izzi made our experience feel so elevated! He was charismatic, charming, and genuinely interested in getting to know us! He was knowledgeable about the menu and had tons of recommendations for us! We ended up getting the bolognese and lasagna. Both dishes were hearty, delicious, and had plenty for leftovers later. Needless to say, we sat at the bar, but Izzi made us feel like we were sitting at the most important table in the house! The entire bar staff seemed very "elite". We called ahead of time as Resy was glitching and were told that we could just walk in and likely wouldn't wait long. Arrived the host was helping someone with a takeout order. We waited. And waited. She never even looked at us or said. "Hi...just give me a minute and I'll be right with you.." 2nd host came to the counter (more than 5 minutes passed as we watched them buzz around and still not say hello). She finally looked up and said, "2"? Then seated us almost silently. We waited another 10 mins for someone to welcome us, say hi, or bring water, then a waiter appeared with a rushed, "Are you ready to order?" Umm....how about drinks? Specials? Anything?? We wanted a beer and were told the taps were empty and the only bottled option was Shiner. Rough start all around. Honestly, we were tempted to leave. It was that uncomfortable. We didn't. For the food: 1. Chopped salad was good, though it's not chopped at all, just a tossed salad. 2. Gnocci was delicious 3. Pizza was very tasty but the crust was strangely soggy/chewy. Maybe that's the style, but I kind of expected a bit of a crunch to it. The flavor all around was great. Our waiter disappeared (I'm assuming his shift ended?) without warning or letting us know someone else would step in. If I had to sum it up, it was almost like we were invisible the whole time we were there. Service can make or break an experience--it broke it for us. I'd consider trying the Richardson location in the future, but I think it'll be a while.
