This is a mixed review based on two things, my visit to this location and my current bike experience.
Firstly, I went to this location to check out the Tread+. I had already purchased the Bike+ after a recommendation from a friend who was not much of a fitness buff, but loved the Peloton. My wife and I have challenged ourselves over the last 3 years and are both currently on over 800 straight days of working out, so we thought a Peloton bike would be a nice curveball thrown at us. We were waiting on the bike, but I wanted to take a look at the Tread+ because another friend had it and swore by it. I already have a treadmill (NordicTrack purchased from Sears) and didn't think it would make a difference, but tried it nonetheless.
The people at the store were really nice. They took my information (I guess for tracing purposes?) and had me wait for the person who was trying the Tread+ to finish before it would be my turn. Once they were done, they brought me in and let me try out the Tread+ (you may notice I keep referring to it as the Tread+, you'll see why in a moment). I have to say, it is the BEST treadmill I have ever tried. Solid, yet forgiving, it felt like I was running on an indoor track. I am glad they don't negotiate pricing, because they probably would have doubled the retail price once they saw how much I wanted it... but I decided to wait.
Peloton has a new treadmill (lower priced) that is coming out in May. I wanted to try it to see if it would be a better purchase, since it's $2,000 cheaper. I want to be honest here, the new Tread is pretty terrible quality. It felt like I was on a cheaper model with a nice screen. I was on and off that treadmill in less than 10 seconds, you just get a feel for it. If you want to save money and not spend the $4,295 (or more) on the Tread+, I don't think the new Tread is worth it, just being honest there.
I did appreciate them allowing me to use both treadmills. The person who tagged along with me in the store gave me his business card should I later decide to buy the Tread+ (Update on that later).
Now, the Bike+. I absolutely LOVE the Bike+! There are some upgrades from the original bike, so while I have never tried the original, the newer bike does have some features that I appreciate, like the linking of the Apple Watch, the larger screen, the better sound quality, and sleeker look (t looks fancy, can't go wrong with fancy). They were able to deliver the bike a full two weeks early. I received a text that gave me 24 hours to decide whether I wanted to reschedule my delivery for an earlier date, I jumped at that opportunity.
The day of the delivery, I decided to try out the App and use my current treadmill with one of the runs. I run nearly everyday, but at a steady pace ranging from 6.5 to 7.5 MPH. I never do intervals, I just run and listen to my standard playlist (it hasn't changed much in 15 years). With the class I took, they pushed me, and motivated me (notice I didn't say "made me"?) to put forth additional effort. I NEVER thought I would need coaching, but the coaching was a pleasant surprise... a surprise in that I never expected I'd be the type to enjoy that.
After a week with the bike, I wanted the Tread+ even more now. I wanted to wait for the next calendar year, but I could not. I did not contact the gentleman who gave me his business card because I had already had an existing point of contact with Peloton that I used when ordering my bike. I bought the Tread+ last week, a pretty simple purchase using Affirm financing and cannot wait for delivery!
I feel like I work for Peloton (I don't) because of how much I talk about it to others (family, friends, co-workers). It's rare that I would rate something as expensive as both the Bike+ and Tread+ (along with the monthly fee for the App) as "worth every penny," but in this case, I say it without hesitation. If you can afford it, buy it, but please do try out both bikes, both treads, and see what suits you best. I only speak for myself, and for me the Bike+ and Tread+ are exceptional pieces of machinery. The App is also wonderful, the instructors are amazing.
Apologies for the long review, as you can see, I love my Peloton! read more
