I cannot speak highly enough of Elliot, Kevin, Ari and the entire staff at TFN. I joined the studio…read morea few months ago and have been impressed by several points: 1) The space: At first, I was taken aback that this is not a full gym, but rather a modestly sized studio. What it lacks in comparison to a larger gym, it makes up for both in focus (e.g, squats, bench press, deadlifts) and expertise (e.g., squat shoes, professional grade equipment). 2) The atmosphere: Upon arrival at the studio, I am reminded of the TV show "Cheers", where one is greeted with warm hello's and welcomes. Everybody knows your name. Also noteworthy - the other guests at the studio are of all ages and capabilities. I recall a moment where everyone stopped their own routines to cheer on a 60 year old woman as she hit her personal best in a deadlift. I had a cheering section as I struggled with a push-up challenge. It is a warm, inclusive and supportive environment. 3) The expertise: Kevin and the team have a methodical, evidence based approach to building strength and technique. He, along with Elliot, Erik and others, have helped me see the finer points of how to lift safely. Rather than piling on the plates, they make me earn the weight with good technique. We progressed through body weight and kettle bells, onto dumbbells and then Olympic bars, only advancing once I demonstrated proficiency with the technique. In addition, I engaged Ari to help me reflect on my nutrition goals and how to integrate my diet with my weight lifting. All of the staff are available online, which helps when I'm traveling. I would encourage anyone to visit TFN and take a few sessions. They effectively blend professionalism, expertise, and warmth; I am excited about my progress in a short period of time and hope you will experience the same.

Mike really knows his stuff and has been able to tailor programming to my needs very well. No cookie cutter programming here! I initially sought out training at TFN because I was having some pain with lifting, and Mike tweaked my technique and gave me lots of helpful cues that helped me to lift pain free so I can keep getting stronger. Highly recommend for any experience level!

Going back to what was once a great gym has been very disappointing!…read more * Jacuzzi is consistently cold and unpleasant. * Shower water is always cold * Floors are frequently flooded with standing water * Bathrooms have leaks, strong odors, and unsanitary conditions * Broken doors and damaged toilet seats * Towels are old, discolored, and unhygienic I gave three stars only because the equipment is good and the classes are well-managed and run smoothly. I hope these issues are addressed soon. If not, I will be forced to cancel my membership.

They also have swim team after work and school hours so you are sharing a pool with toms of young kids. It's dirty in bathrooms, the sinks are always dirty, all bathroom floors are wet, and showers are covered in hair. Disgusting! their cleaning people pass over issues rather than handling. Not to mention the fact weights are always missing and we have basketball courts making it so loud your noise cancelling headphones still won't block it out. You also can't get through to equipment unless you cross behind the courts so hopefully you can catch a ball. Also pretty sure the AC doesn't work at all. The one good part is the GM there is always kind but their upper management seriously needs to fix these issues or just close the gym at this point. It's embarrassing

I used to work at McLean racquet and health club. It was a good place except for this Somali guy…read morenamed Abdi. Abdi would refuse to watch the pool when I needed a break and then he would lie about not have to do that. I also strongly suspected Abdi was selling drugs out of the back of the club. One time he threatened to fight me and I reported it and various staff members did not believe me or blamed me for it. I tried finding out what happened to Abdi but could not get a straight answer. I saw a lot of people with similar names to him on the Fairfax County Court Website but no idea of the actual guy. Otherwise McLean racquet and health club is okay. Good racquet club and workout rooms. Pool is kind of small.

Ok, let's start with the good. It's not much, but it is something: the primary thing this club has…read moregoing for it is its location. It is very centrally located to McLean. I also found the staff to be perfectly adequate during the months I was a member. Never dealt with any rudeness or unwillingness to help. I have heard in my time there that people have had issue with the owner, but I never interacted with him so I wouldn't know. The issue is really the quality of the facilities. It is a very, very old club and they have not done anything to update it. You'll see in a lot of reviews that people complain its impossible to get a court. I can confirm this. The courts are always full and it is a real pain to get one. I didn't use the pool a ton, but it seemed to not be too crowded. They have kickboards and floaters. But there are always kids in the pool, either taking private lessons or there with their parents learning to swim. If that's not the vibe you want, this isn't the place for you. Personally, I wouldn't' bring my kids here either, because of the locker rooms, but more on that below. On the surface, the restaurant, etc. seem fine. But stick around and you'll start seeing some real problems. The locker rooms are really disgusting. I hate to say it but they are. The shower curtains are moldy, the mats on the floor are stained and moldy, and the water pressure is nonexistent. The towels are, no joke, the size of hand towels and so thin that I wouldn't use them to wipe my floor, let alone give to club members. The soap and shampoo is cheap quality, and the dispensers are moldering and gross. There are hardly any benches to sit on. It is a very cramped and small locker room, with cramped and small showers. There's also the issue that this is a family club, so if you don't want kids gawking at you while you change, it's not the place for you. I have kids of my own, so I get it. But it's pretty uncomfortable to have little kids as old as 10 or 11 in a tiny locker room if you're trying to change into workout clothes. There is a stench in the locker room, too. It really smells like dirty socks. The toilets were always dirty--I don't think they send anyone in to clean them. The issue ends up being that this club isn't cheap. Basic membership is about $200 a month, but with family members and court service, the price climbs quickly. And its absolutely not worth it at that price. Not even close. I'd recommend that they: --Actually stock good towels and toiletries --Create a separate changing section for famlies --Stock towels that don't look like filthy rags --replace their showerheads --replace their shower curtains --replace the floor mats --get a few air purifiers in the locker room to get rid of the stench --create a better system for getting a court --hire some more regular cleaners All in all, this gym is worth maybe $40 a month, tops. Almost $200 is a shameless ripoff. Trust me, whether you need a tennis court, a gym, yoga classes--whatever it might be, this is not the place to get it.

***I would actually give it 3.5 stars***…read more Background: I work out about 6x/week and I'm a runner. I completed the 7 day free trial period with my friend and that's the basis for this review. Pros: -Great for people who enjoy working out in groups -Efficient 45 min workout -You sign up for classes via their dedicated app, then it can be added to the calendar in your phone -The raised padded floor is great for those of us with knee problems, it makes for a soft landing - they have child care -you can complete workouts from home video chat -they have women's only classes -unisex bathrooms with baby changing tables -they offer one-on-one support with nutrition (not sure how often) Cons: -Not so great for people who need more instruction because the class moves quickly -About 5-7 mins of the 45 mins is dedicated to warm-up and instructions, which makes for a short workout for some - The app doesn't tell you what the focus of the workout is going to be, so if you work out on your own you risk working on the same muscle group you already focused on by yourself -only class based workouts, no cardio machines, no time to stretch or do anything on your own -not open on Sundays -No locker room/showers Overall: This would make for a great secondary gym for someone who can't focus/doesn't have the motivation to complete HIIT workouts on their own (seeing as how there are plenty of free options online). It's a no frills, no thrills type of gym, get in, do your workout, and leave. They don't even have towels you can use. It's all about community here, so if that's what you're looking for, then this would be good for you. You must wear a face mask everywhere except while on the padded floor.
