I tried Hot Yoga Tyson's and unfortunately, the vibe just wasn't there for me. Before class even started, the instructor asked if I had done hot yoga before. I shared that I've practiced hot yoga many times at CorePower Yoga, but he immediately shut that down by saying they're "not the same." After actually taking the class, I don't agree, between the temperature, humidity, and sequence of movements, it felt very similar. The dismissive response rubbed me the wrong way and honestly made me less excited going into what was supposed to be my first 60-minute class with him. The studio itself also felt pretty old and dingy. It doesn't have the modern, clean, welcoming feel that I'm used to at CorePower. Overall, it seemed to cater more toward an older crowd and a very traditional, no-frills hot yoga style. Personally, I missed the motivating and encouraging energy from instructors, as well as the music and upbeat atmosphere that make classes feel more engaging for me. This studio might work well for people who prefer a very classic, straightforward hot yoga experience, but it just wasn't the right fit for me. read more

This is one of the finest hot yoga studios I've been to -- and I've probably been to 25 of them, including in other countries. It's clean and modern -- and the best part is the teaching staff. They all follow the traditional Bikram dialogue, and give excellent guidance along the way. The studio is nice and hot -- I don't think I've every experienced a better or more consistent heat system. There are toilets within the changing rooms and everything is kept in working order. This studio is very welcoming to new students. I love that this studio is dedicated to the 26-2 postures and that they help all students do the best they can in each class. read more

Although I was introduced to hot yoga (via a Groupon) at this studio maybe 12 years ago, I didn't start becoming a regular practitioner til last year due to a frozen shoulder. Happy to say that the daily practice not only "thawed" the shoulder but has turned me into a regular. Love the sweat, the poses, the post yoga feeling and especially all the teachers, each has his/her style but all so supportive. This is *almost* exactly what I was looking for in a yoga studio! I wish the hot yoga was in a darker studio but I loved how they actually went through the 90 minute OG Bikram yoga sequence. Hot Yoga Tyson gets 5 Stars in my opinion. I have taken Hot Yoga (26 Plus 2) for many years at different studios in Maryland and New Orleans. Hot Yoga Tyson is a very good studio. The studio is clean and comfortable. The teachers are excellent, many of them with years of teaching experiences and some were obviously trained by Bikram himself. The staff is friendly. The schedule offers lots of options for 90 minute classes (my favorite) and 60-minute classes. The owner is particularly attentive and responsive. I took at 90-minute class today that was small, and the teacher (Carole) gave us all a treat. It was like we were given the gift of a 'workshop' class for the price of a regular class. It was great!! This was my first ever hot yoga class and I didn't realize that there was a difference between bikram yoga and regular hot yoga. I visited through class pass. The vibe of this studio is very chill and I was greeted to do initial paperwork. The class for beginners recommended on class pass was 90 minutes which I did. I felt like one of the only beginners here and I do wish it was more beginner-focused and some of the moves were displayed by the teacher but they weren't. I was still able to modify and take breaks as needed and got through the class. It was very challenging due to the high heat level. The studio was spacey but even arriving 10-15 mins earlier the back spots were almost full so keep this in mind. Also bring extra towels and water. I didn't see a water fountain here and had to opt for sink water in the bathroom when I ran out but maybe I missed it. Overall, a good experience I just wish the studio/class felt more welcoming for beginners as I feel I was thrown in to fend on my own. Also, the facility isn't as modern as other studios I've been to but parking was easy. The sense of accomplishment after and the endorphins were the best part of the experience. read more

Been coming here since 2013, and I must say this is my go to place for Bikram hot yoga. The temperature is hottest here, compared to all the oTher yoga studios I've been to, so this is the place to go to sweat! When I first came to this sttUdio, there used to be carpeting. Now, it's been renovated and it's like a laminate material in the exercise room. There is also a good heating HVAC system here. Insel is the owner and he teaches some of the classes too. 15 years and I still can't get any of the postures correct. Average of 4 to 5 classes a week in that time. I don't recall missing many weeks. Almost 68 years old. I am down to 190lbs and close to my high school weight. Been thru Heart Attack, Afib, high blood pressure, cured Hep C after 30 some years, possible diabetes, arthritis in guitar hands, hearing aids, eye contacts. I will say: I believe I am still alive because of my passion for Hot Yoga. I had to give up my love of cold beer, but not quality red wine, prepare the correct food with daily intermediate fasting. Hydration is SO important. Most of us walk around dehydrated and don't know it. I've worked with Alkalized water for 10 years to drive hydrogen into my cells so my body can hold the water and hydrate. By late October I'll post another picture. I hope it will look better and healthier. I am starting back with my Pilates Reformer and light weight training to increase strength. Once in my life I was 245lbs. That weight for me is a path to the dirt. The reason for this post: In the future I want to talk with others about what I have learned in the hope I could help them find a better quality of life. This was my first ever Hot Yoga experience and I will say, it was a "hot" one! My friends and I decided to do a drop-in, $30 session, for our girls night, and it was great! We brought our own mats, towels, and waters! We had a warm welcome from the instructor, completed our intake form, and we headed into the studio. We were met with a class full of people but nicely spaced out for COVID requirements. The studio was HOT, I could have been dramatic since it was my first time but we went for it. The instructor told us, "if you can't do every pose on your first try, don't worry! It is an accomplishment to just sit and stay in the room." It was only after the class did I realize we had completed Bikram Hot Yoga! We had no idea it was going to be this challenging but we burned SO many calories (see attached picture of my apple watch, omg) and had a blast trying something new together. I came here on a Saturday afternoon for the hot yoga class (90 minutes) and wasn't very impressed. First, it sucks that the doors are locked until cutting it very close to class time. Other places I've been let us come in early, so we can prepare for the class and relax. Second, the facility itself is pretty outdated and fell below my expectations. The bathroom was a decent size (3 showers, 2 restrooms, 2 sinks, and plenty of room), but it was filthy. The 3rd shower would not drain and was pretty disgusting as well. I really didn't feel clean. Third, the room itself is outdated and makes an awful sound throughout the WHOLE class which made it really difficult for me to relax and focus on the class. Breaking my focus and annoying me. However, our instructor was very kind and great. I don't know if I'll return, I was pretty disappointed with my first experience! read more

I have taken classes at Hot Yoga Tysons for a few months now, and just returned to the studio this week after their re-opening (post COVID). I loved their warm pilates classes, which are no longer available due to the readjustments they had to make. I started taking hot yoga this week instead of warm pilates. I am very pleased with the instructors and the practice. Hot Yoga Tysons is a well established studio and they offer multiple classes throughout the day, seven days a week. Even better, they are now offering online classes for a discounted price. The classes in the studio were reduced and class capacity is limited to ensure students' safety. The people at HYT will make you feel comfortable no matter your age or practice level. I love coming here and I've always gotten positive vibes from each instructor I've had. read more

As a person who has only done regular yoga and not a frequent practitioner, I was scared it would be too intense. However, it was a great experience. I was encouraged to go at my pace and all the instructors were very kind. I have never sweat more in my life and always felt rejuvenated afterwards. I just finished a 10-pack Groupon at Bikram Tysons, and my self-loathing has never been higher! I've been doing different types of yoga for about 15 years now, and I kind of already knew Bikram wasn't for me. I'm giving two stars instead of one for the sole reason that "some people might like this sort of thing." I tried Bikram Reston a few years ago and hated it, but several factors made me want to try this Tysons studio: 1. Good reviews 2. It had been long enough that I'd forgotten how gross it was. 3. They had a really cheap Groupon. 4. It's walking distance from home. 5. I had some free time on Mondays, and the jiujitsu class I tried didn't work out, so why not? 6. My horoscope that week totally called me out for stress shopping and treating myself too often, so I thought that if I spent money on something unpleasant like Bikram, then it wouldn't count as treating myself. 7. I sweat so rarely that I was starting to wonder if maybe I was missing out on some important biological function by sweating so rarely. I thought it could do me good to sweat once or twice a week. 8. I've had a tight hamstring for a couple of months, and I thought Bikram might help. (It did, a little.) The facilities are large but impractical. They have cubbies instead of lockers, so I just left my wallet at home. The Bikram room itself is so disgusting and unsanitary that you won't want to take anything in there that isn't washable. You'd probably be less likely to get MRSA doing yoga on the floor at a roadside rest stop. The first thing I noticed was that the studio was carpeted, the carpet was already wet, soaked with the sweat of students past. It smelled disgusting, like a carpet saturated with old bodily fluids, which it was. If you have a nice yoga mat that you like, leave that at home. If you have one that's getting kind of gross and you don't know what to do with it because you'd feel bad throwing it away, that's the one to bring to Bikram, because after the first class, it'll be soaked with old, stale sweat (on both sides!) and you'll want to set it on fire. The teachers were really nice outside the studio. Once the class started I had a hard time thinking of them as teachers since Bikram is always the same sequence. They yell comically demotivational phrases at you, and every instructor (I went to four or five) used the same phrases in every class. Examples include, "LOCK YOUR KNEES! LOCK YOUR KNEES! IF YOUR KNEES AREN'T LOCKED, YOU'RE NOT IN THE POSE," "GO BEYOND YOUR BODY'S FLEXIBILITY!", "PUSH UNTIL IT HURTS!" and my personal favorite, "IF YOU'RE OFF BALANCE, IT'S BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT TRYING HARD ENOUGH." Seriously, they never stop talking. It was sometimes hard to focus and balance, because they kept talking so fast, and some of their phrases would make me laugh, mid-pose. The only real differences between instructors was their tone of voice and their attitude toward letting people leave the room when they started passing out. When doing forward folds, most of the instructors made reference to pushing your chest to your legs like a "Japanese ham sandwich." This was firstly, not a helpful analogy, secondly, seemed kinda racist, and thirdly, made a lot of sense but still seemed racist when I looked it up on Urban Dictionary (don't do this). During one class the instructor introduced a new student by saying "X goes to another Bikram studio and doesn't drink water during her practice. Couldn't we all learn from X?" No, we couldn't, and for the record, X was lying on her mat lightheaded within ten minutes. As for the instructors, at first I felt like they talked so fast that I had a hard time understanding what they were saying, and I got by from watching the other students. But since every Bikram class is exactly the same, I was able to follow along more and more each time I went. The room temperature was very inconsistent. At first, I thought it was my imagination and my body struggling to adjust. Later, I realized that some days the ice in my water bottle lasted the entire class, while other days, it melted within the first half of class and I had hot water by the end. I didn't consider Bikram to be a good workout compared to vinyasa and other types of yoga I've tried. It feels difficult because it's so hot, but the poses themselves do not require much strength, mostly just flexibility and a high tolerance for heat. As for the heat, I never felt lightheaded or dizzy, I just found it to be really, really unpleasant, contrary to the other forms of yoga I've tried. If you're a type-A personality and want a Jillian Michaels kind of person yelling at you nonstop, then this might be the type of yoga for you. As for me, I'll stick with my regular studio. read more

I took a hiatus from bikram to explore different types of yoga and I found myself coming back to my familiar place. In addition to their regular 90 minute classes, they now offer 60 minute classes (the standing series once and each posture in the floor series twice + 2 breathing exercises) during a few time slots during the week, which I absolutely love for those evenings after work, especially when I feel like I don't have enough hours in a day for a full 90 minute class. They've also marked the carpet in the studio with placeholders for your mat so everybody isn't all over the place. Bikram is more militant than other forms of yoga, it's hot and humid (think 106 degrees with 40%+ humidity), and there are several rules (no talking, no cell phones inside the studio, only drink water after eagle posture and in between postures after that, etc.), but you feel SO great afterward! The ice cold towel at the end is a real treat. Be sure to hydrate yourself before and after class. Namaste! read more

Yes, another Bikram yoga review to the list. This is just not another location. I want to tell you what sets this Bikram yoga location apart from the others which I had the pleasure of visiting. Bikram Yoga of Tyson's uniqueness: * this studio is gigantic in size and I can feel the heat and it feels good hot. * They have multiple shower stalls compared to other studios with awesome hair products * They offer you a cold towel at the end of class * This studio caters to residents of DC, VA, and MD and is in a great location in Tyson's corner (right next to the highway) * Get on their mailing list, compared to other studios they offer great pricing thru emails to get you motivated to pay monthly. Bikram yoga is expensive on a regular basis but they offer great specials throughout the year. I have taken classes here for a month in the past, all the instructors were fantastic however my biggest regret is not having the pleasure to have taken a class with Insel (owner) who I have heard is the best instructor in this location. If your new to bikram yoga look up the website for FAQ's. But one thing for sure don't forget to drink lots of water.~ read more

Of the bikram studios i've been to in the area, this one has the largest room. But it does get PACKED at times so be forewarned and make sure you get to class early to grab a spot! I like most if not all of the teachers I've had classes with here. Unlike other studios, they will not crack open the door for air (I don't mind because this is what I come for!) and really push you here. Studio room is pretty clean despite being carpeted, there is no smell except for your occasional neighbor with body odor. With hardwood/vinyl floors the sweat just gets smeared around and pooling anyways. Tysons also has the most convenient changing room layout and is best stocked with toiletries. read more

This was my first exposure to bikram yoga. Not really my favorite. I didn't really enjoy all the 'chanting' of the directions. "Bend down. Lock the knees. Lock the knees. Lock the knees. Breathe through the nose and if you exhale through your mouth, be sure to close it the next time..." Constant talking with no relief of peace and quiet. I actually felt badly after class, feeling like I had to work so much harder the next time. Unfortunately this location was close to the hotel I usually stay when I am here. Hot Yoga Tysons owner and instructors are really inspiring. I've been going here since 2011. They foster a community of yogis. Stephen, the instructor, is especially hilarious, I really enjoy his classes because it's a more lighthearted experience. I especially won't forget the midnight NYE yoga my husband and I did to ring in 2019! Very unique and special. I also like that now they have the more restorative yogas such as yin and the pilates classes. Very exciting! I just wish I lived closer though these days, as no other bikram studio in the area can really compare. The only thing that can be frustrating is some of the people who go there, they can be competitive and catty. I even saw an argument break out in the studio before class. They were fighting over where two people were placing their yoga mats (because let's be honest it's kinda crowded in peak hours). I purchased a 5-session voucher...Bikram is a challenge. It's hot and sweaty. You know that going into it! This week, I took my first yoga class in about 8 months... I had Max; and, he was EXCELLENT. From when I walked in to sign in for the class to checking in on me after class. He's really good at describing each and every detail of how you need to move and position your body. Cold wet cloth at the end... I loved it. My work schedule is never routine, so I like how Bikram Tysons has so many class options and instructors at the same designated times every day. I recall that I did a drop in class at Bikram Tysons about two years ago. I remember that there was a bit of confusion regarding first timers and the fee, but my friend and I didn't really mind. We had Insel, who was very intimidating at first, but we both enjoyed the class. And, we both appreciated that Insel walks around the class to give personal attention and corrected our positions. I highly value the efforts of instructors that do so! FYI on my background with yoga: I've done (very) few Bikram yoga classes in the past ten years, but I have enjoyed the the classes every time. I am not routine about my yoga practice like many people are because I enjoy other activities like soccer and trail running. But, I am athletic and I enjoy being challenged (also have flexibility from growing up with dance instruction), so I am not afraid of randomly dropping in to a Bikram class... It may take some people more time to adjust to hot yoga than other yoga practices. read more

I have been practicing yoga at Bikram Tysons for more than 10 years and a daily practitioner. This past year has been challenging for all given the pandemic. When businesses were shutdown last March, I was very concerned about how Bikram Tysons would survive and also thought about how I would manage not being in that hot room which had become my second home. Within a day or 2, the owner began virtual classes. Yeah! And virtual classes continue today. What a lifesaver for me and many others who chose to continue to practice remotely. The studio reopened in July but the studio understood the importance of continuing to support the virtual option and we love them for doing so. The place: a state-of-the-art facility (with plenty of free parking) for practicing the Hatha-based 26 poses and 2 breathing exercises that are so beneficial for mind-body health and well-being. The people: a welcoming, nonjudgmental community of yoga instructors and practitioners of diverse ages, fitness and experience levels, and cultural backgrounds. The instructors each offer added value to the 26+2 series through their diverse personal strengths and expertise. They encourage and challenge you, whether you're a brand-new beginner, seasoned practitioner, or someone in between. The plus: this is a family-owned small business whose founder has a huge heart. I could also write an infomercial on the health benefits of hot yoga, but I'm focusing this review on the particular studio rather than the yoga itself. But I'll leave this simple testimonial: hot yoga has helped me heal from a fractured disc in my spine, a shattered knee, and grief after deaths of family members and friends. The session I went to was very, very hot. Even the regulars noted it. The funk is real and the incense burning in the entryway doesn't help. Nor does the instructor barking at you to let go of the wall, post, etc., saying it's only for people who truly need it. Without doing any sort of intake, who are you to diagnose? All the instructors are engaging, encouraging, and happy to hold your hand when needed. The fellow classmates are also fantastic. I have not experienced a yogi community as welcoming as Bikram Tysons. As a very out of shape "beginner" (understatement of the year), I have never felt any pressure or judgement from my classmates. Smiles all around- until everyone's legs shake in awkward position! They offer frequent specials and a beyond reasonable schedule. Absolutely LOVE Hot Yoga Tysons. I've been going for years and it seriously changed my life. Everything is better after yoga. I feel amazing, I eat better, I perform better at work, I think clearer, I lose weight and my clothes fit better, along with a gazillion other mind blowing mind and body benefits. UPDATE: updating my review after reading some negative comments. This is for those people who went once, likely from a Groupon, and wrote a bad review. Hot Yoga is not easy at all, but is a very welcoming environment. Its a disciplined yoga though so if you're new, you'll need to learn this and get used to certain aspects like no talking in the sacred room where others are meditating before / after / during class. Other etiquette like no stepping on people's mats, no drinking water until after the 4th posture (the body is still warming up and this is part of the full practice), etc. You're going to sweat (a LOT), others will sweat (a LOT), it's going to be uncomfortable at first and your first class will probably be overwhelming and uncomfortable. Thats part of the process. It gets better and better and good things happen very quickly. The benefits are ridiculous. I've seen reviews of people being upset if they cant practice when they're late. Thats part of it. Just dont be late. Simple. If you are, you kinda have to suck it up. Things you develop in class will eventually bleed into your regular life (example: you'll likely learn to not be late in other parts of life and you'll think and plan better, or you'll learn to suck it up if consequences happen). The instructors are amazing and they 'might' push you to do your best if they see that you can do more in class. Or you may likely not give 100% during a posture and you'll go unnoticed and it'll likely take longer to develop the benefits of that posture. The more you experience this yoga, the more you appreciate it when you get that extra push or extra direction of a tiny adjustment to do something better. Theres a reason for it all! After 10 years, I still can only do some postures 1/4 of the way its supposed to actually be done. Thats ok. I've come a lonnnng way from where I was when I first started. Sometimes instructors push me or give me tiny little adjustments that help me progress. I dont take it personally and it helps me do it better and I get the benefits faster. The rule is always do as much as you can do that day. If an instructor is urging you, they aren't doing it because they are mean. Ignore it if you cant do more. Its ok. They are very compassionate and supportive and want you to experience the max benefits. I think of it like Im training to be a ninja. lol. The instructors are there to make sure you become the best and healthiest ninja ever! Trust the process and discipline. Bikram himself who developed this practice is 100 times tougher but they all have the same love. Yoga will require you to toughen up a little but you'll also feel better than you ever have too. They're not selling ice cream in that hot room and it may not smell like roses at first. Out of the 20 studios that Ive been to around the world, Hot Yoga Tysons the cleanest, best smelling, and has the best air system. Its a workout and a discipline. Again, the benefits are insane. Its a happy place. Its also a discipline that might require going a few times before understanding. (Reading some of these reviews from newbies just shows me that they don't quite get it yet but they would if they kept going and kept an open mind). It will do great things for you in life if you allow it to develop (and toughen up a little). Stay with it and go often and you just might be amazed. I tell that to everyone and I'd say that at least 50 of my friends are still going to this day and feel the same way as me. Very happy this place opened up in Tysons years ago. Hot Yoga Tysons - Yoga Near Me - McLean, Virginia

I've been doing Bikram Yoga for 7 years now and I've visited almost every studio in the DC area. This by far is my FAV! When you've visited enough studios you'll find that one thing is always missing or is a disappointment. Some of those things can be the class times offered, cleanliness (including smell of the room), customer service, the cool towels, small locker rooms and the instructors. I am sooo thrilled personally that I have not experienced anything like this at the Tyson's location. They gave me EVERYTHING I was looking for in a studio and more! The little things just added up. So to start below is a list of what I LOVE about this studio that many studios do not offer. Class times - They have the most extensive class times and I adore the one hour session because sometimes it just fits better with my schedule however I'm always the biggest fan of the original 90. When I used to attend Alexandria they continually kept cutting classes and since I worked such late hours I always found myself unable to attend the studio. Cleanliness - Thankfully they have wood floors which goes a long way for keeping a clean/fresh smelling studio. The locker rooms are always very clean and it's so awesome that they have the plastic bags because yes I almost always forget to bring mine. My only critique would be to have mats for the shower rooms as the towels get a little too wet. Atmosphere - For anyone who complains about the incense you are most likely a newbie and not a true yogi. I love walking in to the smell of incense and sometimes bummed out when it's not burning lol. The music selection is perfect and I especially liked the Dubstep playing one day after class. Customer Service/Instructors - The staff was very welcoming when I first visited and V on the 6pm class is truly a cutie. I love his fun banter in class and especially the "Boom!" on Tuladandasana pose. I smile every time. lol. I'm also happy to see a lot of the Alexandria teachers have come to Tyson's and I truly love taking their classes. I used to be an Alexandria girl but I left because it went down hill when Jim left. Towels - Yes this has it's own paragraph because it's my favorite part of class and I can't wait for it. It's my lavender trophy at the end of each session. Thank you for these!
