This studio changed my life. I started at Inner Power thinking it was just a physical outlet to do after work. Little did I know how strong it would make me physically and mentally and I stayed consistent and grew my practice to a level I didn't think I was capable of. The teachers here are so observant and pay attention to each practitioner. I never once felt pressured to catch up with the class but was taught to own each practice as my own. Johnathan has to be one of the best teachers I've been fortunate enough to learn from. Jayme, Michelle, Gretchen all have such unique and amazing teaching styles and make yoga feel like your own personal practice- and not a commercial exercise class. That is incredibly important to me. Yoga first appealed to me as the kind of exercise that a former gymnast like me could really enjoy: you get to do acrobatic poses like handstands, work on flexibility, and get a work out that is intense while still being fun. I love that at IPY, while the classes are very athletic and challenge me every time, I also always leave in a better mood and more focused state of mind than when I arrived to the studio. Something I really appreciate about IPY is that Ursula and her teachers all encourage their students to challenge themselves and believe they can reach goals in their practice that they never thought possible, while at the same time balancing a constant "permission" to listen to what our bodies are telling us and take a version of the pose that works best for us at the moment, something that was a revelation to me as a former gymnast. IPY is great is in the details - like the gentle adjustments that instructors make when we need them, the different points of view and details about how different poses work that each teacher brings to his or her classes, and the warm incense-scented ambiance. Above all, Inner Power Yoga is a community full of wonderful fellow students of yoga who encourage each other and make showing up for yoga all the more appealing. The teachers make an effort to get to know each of their students and make everyone feel welcome, and I never feel judged by other students when I can't do something perfectly, or flat out fall over, or even when I am drenched with sweat and not presentable in public. I've tried many yoga studios in the area, and IPY is definitely my favorite and has become my yoga home. I started practicing with Ursula somewhere around 2003--when she relocated overseas for a few years, I tried many other studios but none that I liked as much as IPY. All the instructors are wonderful, and there are a variety of classes to choose from. I also like that you can either purchase a class card or unlimited monthly so you can come to class when it works with your scheduled. I reeeeeaaallly like this studio! So with that said, I've been practicing yoga for about two years. Just moved up from FL and not knowing any yoga studios near or far. (Part of the fun though!) Inner power is literally a hop skip and jump away from my house.. So I'd be a super lazy yogi if I didn't check it out. It's the only studio that I've practiced at consistently since I've moved here. (I think that says something!) I really enjoy checking out new studios, and learning new asanas from each but I'll always come back to Inner. The best yoga studio I've ever been too.. I usually take Ursula's and Gretchen's classes and they are absolutely amazing! I've been to quite a few good yoga studios but this one is by far the BEST I've been to. The classes, even at their largest, aren't too big, and you get enough individual attention. The teachers make sure to (subtly) correct your posture if it need's to be corrected and are always around to answer any questions you have! All of the teachers are very sweet and teach you a lot, and they learn everyone's names very fast. This studio is very friendly and definitely has a community-feel. I think out of all the yoga studios I've been to, this is the one where I've actually learned the most about yoga and correct postures. Also, plenty of yoga mat's and props! The hot temperature (although not as hot as hot yoga - it's usually at about 80-85 degrees) put me off at first, but once I got used to it I found it was really helpful for stretching my muscles the best.. and it's great for the winter! read more

Inner Power Yoga (IPY) is my favorite yoga studio I've ever been to! I've been practicing yoga for about 4 years and have dropped into studios in several different countries and locally in the area, but IPY is certainly the best. The All Levels class is perfect for truly anyone at any level, with modifications for beginners and options for more advanced poses. This is a long review, but when you're deciding on a place to further a mind/body practice such as yoga, I think it's best to do research and be informed! After a sporadic practice spanning almost 20 years (!!!), I decided I wanted to make yoga a regular part of my life, and I also wanted a bit more of a challenge in my practice. I started dropping in to various studios around the area. After trying several, I found Inner Power. Not to put too fine a point on it: IPY immediately felt like the home I had been looking for: warm and gracious but not overbearing and "gooshy," small but not too small, challenging without being competitive, serious about yoga without being too over-the-top. When I arrived, Ursula gave me the lowdown on the studio (More about Ursula in a minute). The entry to studio is clean and lovely, with a shoe rack and plenty of hooks for personal items. IPY maintains a small boutique near the front desk that sells clothing and accessories for much the same prices as on Amazon.com - i.e., no discernable huge markup. Water is available from water fountains in the building, or you can snag a bottle for $1.00 on the honor system (I appreciate being treated with trust)! There is a sizable curtained-off changing area equipped with hooks and a stool for your belongings. Also available for use are complimentary yoga mats - and though I bring my own, these look to be very high quality and clean! The studio itself is beautiful. Clean pale floors, pale walls, and nearly floor-to-ceiling windows make the room a lovely place to practice. Ample blocks, straps, and eye pillows are available. The room is heated, but the heat-to-humidity ratio must have been carefully determined because it doesn't feel oppressive, even to this perpetually sweaty reviewer. Now, back to Ursula and the other teachers: across the board, this is the finest yoga instruction I've received, and I've taken my fair share of yoga classes. I promised you more about Ursula, and here it is: she is, from first impression onward, one of the most graceful and caring individuals I've ever had the pleasure to encounter. When I say she is graceful, I mean graceful on the mat, for sure, but also in her way of handling herself in her interactions with others. And her caring personality shows itself not only in her classes, where she makes sure to greet each and every student personally and gives gentle but incisive corrections, but her caring is also revealed in all the thoughtful details the studio offers, as well as in her willingness to take time with each and every student. I arrived for my first class without a towel (rookie move, I should have known I'd need one), and Ursula graciously offered me her own - it's a small thing, but it goes to show her thoughtfulness down to the smallest details. Tiffany has a wonderful, youthful energy, but leads class like a seasoned pro. I've also seen her attend classes and workshops frequently, which is great because I love to see teachers continuing to learn (and, if I can't see the instructor, I can follow her)! Also, she gives the most wonderful mini-massages during savasana - I think she has magic fingers! Mariana teaches challenging, super-creative, awesome flows that link the traditional yoga poses in ways I've never experienced before, and it is always so surprising and delightful to see how they come together! Also, she uses wonderful music in her classes, which is a big plus for this music lover. Sylvia is a delight - incredibly charming and funny - and she gives amazing adjustments. She will make you work hard, and work correctly! She truly challenges you to push yourself, but to push yourself safely. And Jessica is amazingly warm and inviting - after class she encouraged us all to say hello to someone we didn't know, and she gave amazing verbal descriptions and corrections throughout class that really kept us on track. Moreover, she seemed to have an intuitive ability to sense when students were struggling with a particular pose, and she would quietly help them (cough, me, cough) in such a non-intimidating way. I haven't had a chance to take class with the other instructors yet, but I have no doubt that they're just as lovely. I have taken the basics, all levels, Friday flow, and Ashtanga classes, and they are all wonderful offerings - I was especially excited to try Ashtanga, and I was not disappointed! I have been practicing yoga for about 11 months. I went to several other studios and classes before I discovered IPY. I had some "interesting experiences" before coming to IPY and am glad to say I now practice 4-5 times a week at IPY. IPY is a very special studio. They have a strong community and a very welcoming style. The practice is physically challenging but they make it accessible for anyone who wants to participate. When starting out their basics classes at 7:45 PM are perfect. I was initially unsure of the heat but it isn't anything like bikram it is 85-90 degrees so you will definitely sweat but in a purifying, detoxifying, great work out kind of way. Every instructor they have is knowledgeable, open, warm and puts on a great class. They have a diverse community of students and provide an appropriate level of challenge for practioners at every level. I can't believe how I have grown in my practice and how many great relationships I have formed! If you are new to yoga or have been practicing yoga forever IPY is definitely a place you want to check out! read more

I am new to yoga, but was immediately impressed by the warm, friendly atmosphere at Inner Power Yoga. It can be intimidating to a newcomer, but my first class with Ursula was so incredible that I couldn't wait to go again. It's a great workout - I've been about 5 times now, practicing with Ursula and Jessica (both WONDERFUL) and I can feel myself getting a little stronger and a little more flexible each time. It's an inspiration to see all of the experienced yoginis doing amazing things in class and it just makes me want to do more. Hot yoga (85 F) is not my thing, but I had such an amazing class here on Sunday with Cyndi (9:30am), I am totally in love and want to come back every week for more. Fifth yoga review from the road...Ursula is one of those teachers you can't wait to come back to. What impresses me is that she has eagle eyes, remembers where you are in your personal development, gives terrific instructions, and spends a few minutes after savasana to talk to the class, giving each person an upbeat comment on what she felt they accomplished that day. With her experience in Ashtanga and vinyasa, she teaches excellent alignment with an encouraging attitude. Super clean with a really devoted clientele. I'm still relatively new to yoga and have been switching between three yoga studios in the area until I saw a friend recommend IPY on Facebook and decided to give it a try. Since then, I only go to another studio when I am traveling. Ursula (the owner) is an amazing instructor who knows her students and where they are in their practice and manages personalize everyone's practice even in a group class. All the other instructors whose classes I attended at IPY have also been great. The studio is very clean, nicely lit, and smells great. The great part about coming to IPY is no matter what class I take and no matter the level of the other students in the class, I always leave feeling great and looking forward to the next time. read more

This is a GREAT studio. Great, knowledgeable teachers, several classes a day, and a large community. There is a variety of people that practice at IPY, from hardcore yogis to regular people looking to shed a few pounds. I find these classes challenging and relaxing. I like power yoga for the good workout but I need the mindfulness and relaxation of yoga as well to keep me level headed. IPY is a great combination of both. There are no mirrors, but the instructors are always walking around and will correct you or help you enhance your pose if needed. You have a full view of the lake at the front of the room. The ambiance is great: they take lighting, temperature, music, and everything else into consideration for the optimal practice. The class sizes (that I've seen) have been anywhere from 7-40 at a time. My ONLY negative is that the space is small. The front room is a bit tight when the class lets out. I think they're ready to expand to a bigger space! read more

I am very, very new to yoga , I've been going to Inner Power Yoga for only a month (I've only taken about 8 or so classes) but I really love it already and I know I will keep coming back. I was nervous to try yoga because I am not flexible, I have terrible balance and I had no idea what to expect and was afraid of making an ass out of myself. Well, I make an ass out of myself every class but I love it anyway! Everyone is really, really nice, helpful and supportive. All of the teachers are excellent but I am partial to the classes taught by Ursula (just a personal preference, they are all great!). I love this place! Ursula is such a sweet person and awesome teacher, and although I'm fairly new to yoga, she makes sure I feel comfortable doing the poses and have the basic alignment and posture correct in her Basics classes. I don't feel intimidated at all, and the classes go at the perfect pace. She is there to demonstrate the poses when we are confused, and tries to talk to everyone in the class before class starts to ensure that everyone is fine and healthy. I am sure that the other staff members are as wonderful, and I am happy I found this place! My FAVORITE place for yoga. 5 Stars pretty much says it all. I'd tried yoga at other places previously but could never get into it until I came to IPY. I was basically a beginner when I came to IPY and I was hooked after my first class. You will learn so much from this place--all the instructors are highly trained and also very approachable. When they come around to correct people, it's subtle and doesn't interrupt the flow of the class--which is something I appreciated as a beginner who didn't want attention drawn to myself. My first experience with Yoga was today and it was perfect! This studio and Ursula Cox (the owner) are amazing. Ursula spent time with me prior to the session and again after the session. When I go to Inner Power Yoga for a class, I feel like I'm coming home. Ursula, the owner, is amazing and always makes you feel welcome and special. The other instructors are also terrific. I've been to other studios and even tried doing yoga at the gym, but I am spoiled! IPY is--by far--my favorite studio in the NOVA area. I must have tried a dozen different studios and a variety of styles of yoga before coming to IPY. The staff is so friendly, helpful and welcoming. The studio itself is gorgeous with huge windows overlooking a lake. One of the best things about IPY is that the staff, especially Ursula, make an effort to get to know each of the students to help them push themselves (in a good way) to help enhance their yoga practice. I have had such a great experience at Inner Power Yoga. I started off with a Living Social deal, and have been so happy with it that I am going to keep going when my deal runs out. The founder, Ursula, is very friendly and welcoming. I have only done the All Level classes, which are very intense but rewarding. They keep it warm, which took me a while to get used to, but it's not as hot as some places. It is such a great workout and you will feel great body and mind afterwards! read more
