Not going to lie we heard about this place a year earlier when we were in the area for a pub crawl and we missed out. This time around we were not going to make the same mistake. We did stop in after a pub crawl. The smells as you walk in the place were amazing. Pretty busy late at night, and from what I heard from everyone for good reason. The lady behind the counter took our order and was also the one doing the cooking. Took only 10 minutes or so. Upon receiving them we ate a little bit of each kind. They were both flavorful and delicious, but I prefer the one with curry more, though you can't go wrong either way. We did not finish them but put them in the fridge. Just note the next day they are just as good. We didn't heat them up, just cold. Pretty sure this will be a staple whenever we are in town. The hype is real!!

Highly recommend by my girlfriend, she said this was one of her favorite late night snacks. This shop only serves two items - beef and potato dumplings. I got the combination that came with both types of dumplings that are then topped with curry powder, cilantro, Siracha and served with side of sour cream and bread. I can see why this is the perfect drunk food - little nuggets of starch and flavor that you can easily shovel down after a night out.

Pelmeni is the Russian word for dumplings (in case you were wondering, as I was). A review said they've changed the dumpling size, but not that I can tell looking at older photos. Anyway, even if accurate, they were a fine size for me. I shared an order of the potato dumplings as a snack, and they were super delicious. I especially liked the curry topping, as well as the cilantro, sour cream, and hot sauce. The rye bread was good, too. I enjoyed them with or without the hot sauce (sriracha-like), but didn't try the vinegar (sounds interesting). $9 for about a dozen and a half dumplings seems like a good value in today's economy. The person who took our order also made the dumplings. He did a great job at both! Had to have these again. The second time we did try the vinegar, along with all the other toppings. Loved them even more! Sooo good. If you enjoy dumplings, just go, it's worth it.

Incredible dumpling spot pretty close to the I5. Stopped in here after a long delay at the border and our usual stop was closed and it did NOT disappoint. Menu is very simple. Two options: beef or potato. Your dumplings come topped with curry powder and hot sauce and cilantro. Highly recommend grabbing some sour cream on the side as it balances everything so well. Dumplings are made to order, so you may be waiting a while on a busy day, but the wait is well worth it. We ordered one portion each and ended up ordering another for the road they were so delicious. Not a ton of seating inside (3 small tables) but they pack everything to go as well. Music isn't too loud so its easy to carry a conversation I have to hand it to my wife for the incredible find on this place. We will definitely be back. Next time we're nearby

Food was good, wish there were more choices. The potato dumplings were good, one of them looked like it had old wilted parsley on it though. sour cream with it was even better. Service was very friendly & I loved the decor and building itself was very beautiful.

Absolutely loved trying out Pel'meni! We ordered one order of the potato dumpling entrée and one order of the beef dumpling entrée. Both were delicious! Growing up in Russia, Pelmeni brought me home. It's a small cafe that sells only two kinds of pelmeni (Russian dumplings). Order the beef or the potato and get a bowl of them with sour creme to dip it in. I prefer the beef.

To only do one thing as a business model means you are either really really good at it, or you're going out of business, and business is good here. I'm reminded of the blues brothers," We have both kinds of Pelmeni, potato *and* beef!" The sauce mix is just right for either and bother are incredible. Dough balls with beef, in sauce with sour cream. Fresh made and steaming this quirky fun place let's you change the record that's playing! Steele Dan with lunch anyone? Hellz yes, with the old school building vibe and the super cool personality of the staff, this is a great lunch stop, after the club or your just higher than an eagles... claws, really recommend this place!

The pinnacle of delicious bar food available anytime you have a craving. They're not open 24 hours but business hours are good whether you're a college student or a commuter. The dumplings are tender, flavorful and cheap. The place is friendly, clean and dumplings are made to order. On a recent trip, I ordered the potato and beef with everything, aka sriracha, curry powder, vinegar and fresh cilantro with sour cream on the side. Love them. read more

This spot is one of my favorite places to go to in bham. Even tho they only have two types of Russian Dumplings they are still delicious. I come here all the time and the employees are always welcoming. The reason why I am giving them three stars is because I called them to order a to go and the lack of patience that she had was a bit disrespectful. She asked for my name and I said Grace and she said that she couldn't hear me and that my name will be Megan. Then she hanged up before I could say anything else. I always make it a priority to stop by this place when I'm in Bellingham. Their dumplings are better than (or, at least equal to) any European dumpling place I've tried in Seattle. Oh, and they have Squirt in the refrigerator, which is just the cherry on top for me. Great place! read more

One of my favorite late night places in Bellingham! A good place to drop by after work or after hoping around the breweries. The usually have three options; beef, potatoes, and mixed. If they are busy they might not be able to mix an order for you. The cost for a container is $7 and it's worth it! It's a must try at least once. read more

food is so tasty and its a good restaurant but lately one employee in particular has been super rude to me when i come in. i have worked in customer service too, so i have learned to not take things personally because working in customer facing roles is demanding, but its just straight up annoying when you say thank you or goodbye and just get a snarky facial expression in return. i am polite and always tip so i think its just her attitude. oh well! read more

Dank. Super cool russian dumplings that are simple and delicious. If you're tired of the same old pizza, burgers, or tacos then come here for a switch up! They have 2 different types meat or potato and they're unexpectedly filling. Get them with hot sauce, vinegar, or sour cream and a piece of bread on the side. Also they're open late night to savor what ever Yum Yumms you need. read more

Pel' Meni serves East European dumplings, the kind you might find in a neighborhood restaurant in countries from the Baltic states down through the Dinaric Alps in Croatia and other neighboring states and east to the Caucauscuses between the Black and Caspian Seas and north to the Urals. The dumplings are excellent in themselves but you may want some additional condiments (good, assertive mustard, saurkraut, red cabbage, pickled beets, etc.) to make them really come to life in your mouth. These are boiled dumplings and, hence, are good but less complexly flavorful than most of us, who eat pizza, burgers with relish and ketchup and the like, expect and enjoy. Don't let that seeming negative discourage you the dumplings are great. They just need a little kick to make the extraordinary. read more

Upon the recommendation of my cousin, we stopped in here for a snack. It's a small place with only a few tables. The menu is very simple; beef or potato dumplings. I ordered a mix of the two which took a bit longer to prepare. The dumplings come with a small piece of rye bread and a container of sour cream. The dumplings were seasoned with paprika, but i added some hot sauce for extra kick. The dumplings were good, but are more fitting if you just want a light dinner or late night snack. An added feature is the huge selection of records with a turntable to play what you wish. According to the nice woman who was working, there will be a new location in Maui coming soon. read more

We went here in a group of about 15 people last Friday for lunch. The place was empty by the time we got there and got immediate and prompt attention from the guy behind the counter. He did a really good job taking all of our orders and making them promptly. This place is self-serve, order at the counter type. There's only 2 options - beef or potato. 1 order has 16 pieces and is $7. The order is served in a to-go container, and you can add your own sour cream and "chili" sauce. I had the beef pelmeni - it was delicious and good for the price I paid for. Was the pelmenis out of this word? No. Was it mind-blowing? ProbIably not. Would I come back for a quick lunch? This is the best spot in town (minus perhaps jalapeños) to get food while drunk. For anyone who has been to zar dumplings in Seattle, it is almost the exact same except it takes less time and has less options (potato or meat). They upped their price a few years ago to around $8 but it is still by far worth it. read more

This place has two things on the menu, meat or potato dumplings, and they are both killer. At $7 a meal, it's cheap, filling good home cooked food. Also great for sobering up (hence why they're open so late hahaha). Make sure you grab at least two containers of sour cream! read more

It's easy, simple food but there is a reason folks show up in droves for it. Of course, there's a lot of drunk folks flooding in during last call, but the record collection slaps (ABBA Gold on vinyl!?) and the minimal staff works hard to keep the typical undergrad chaos to a minimum. Super happy they're one of the remaining staples of this city of subdued excitement! read more

The food is great but we recently had an awful experience with one of the cashiers. She was blatantly rude and disrespectful. We usually have positive experiences, and are loyal pel' Meni customers so the one negative experience was uncharacteristic of this establishment. We hope to have more positive experiences in the future... and that we don't encounter that employee again. read more

No menu board or menus at all. It's like someone decided to open a food kart indoors. There is a drink cooler and they only serve 1 thing in 2 variations - I'm not kidding. Dumplings filled with either a meatball sort or potatoes. Each dumpling is about the diameter of a quarter and you get around 20 per $7 order. They come topped with butter, curry & some sort of red sauce and half a slice of rye bread. If not for the seemingly unlimited (free) extra toppings of the above or sour cream I wouldn't really call the price worth it. If this is what you grew up with, I'd expect you must've had better. On the plus side they're open very late. I've been here twice and there's only been 1 person running the place. The first time they were very friendly and the second time another person was rather off-putting. There's also a rack with a few hundred LP's records and they encourage people to play something on the turntable. read more

What can I say about this place that we don't already know? I feel I should preface this by saying I have never been inside Pel Meni while the sun was up (nor have I been there unless I've consumed 1 drink). But my experience, regardless, reflects what I feel most of Bellingham sees as the "classic Pel Meni experience." The one word I can use for this restaurant: reliability. You can walk (or stumble) in at any hour and find the exact same thing over and over; and it is exactly what you are looking for. Delicious dumplings at a reasonable price, great tunes that you can choose yourself (unless you're philisitine enough to not know how to operate a record player) and a warm atmosphere. All of these things add together to make a pleasantly low key eatery that can be a welcome refuge after a night of putting a few too many back. Will always go again... and so should you. read more

Absolutely delicious pelmeni! I wish there was one in Vancouver! Love the piece of bread on top and ate two servings. It was a place we stopped by in Bellingham specifically for and it was well worth it. Very interesting decor inside and atmosphere is retro which is great. Will come back. read more

Very chill and casual place. It's simple, to the point, they don't sugar coat things but their pelmeni options are good, fresh tasting, somewhat authentic... but very delicious. This is coming from a Slavic lady... the dude at the cash was super cool to talk to, I appreciate that he's not putting on a whole front but just there to talk. Texture is perfect to me, not overly dry, dense but not hard like most healthy bread. I normally eat mine fresh and only toast the last 1/4 loaves. As more and more people are developing allergies mainly due to pesticides in our food (which results in the depletion of good gut bacteria), seeking out a wheat-free option will help those with digestive issues. So I am stumbling around at two in the morning hungry as can be, I am not making the best choices at this point, but I manage to make one, I needed food! I usually pop down Railroad Ave, they have a few things open late, but something drew me away, perhaps it was the dim recollection of the revolting experience at the Shoe, or maybe in my drunken haze I thought that going uphill was faster than a direct route. Whatever the reason, I went up, then I turned the corner and almost crashed into these people who were in a line. I, being too drunk to realize I could just go around this line and on my way, waited in this line, quite funny actually, my first time going to this place was a true accident. I got up to the front and realized, much to my surprise, that I had found a food source! I looked around for a menu, none were to be found, (as if I could read them) at that point, then I hear it, "Meat or Potato", I was confused, and apparently they were used to this. They patiently explained that the only choice I needed to make was meat or potato, I finally came up with potato. When I got my food I was overwhelmed. It was so Delicious! I couldn't believe it! I found my way home that night and dreamed of that beautiful line that took me into food so simple, yet so tasty. In fact I dreamed about it so vividly I wondered if it was really real the next day. I actually took a few days to find it again, but when I did I was stone cold sober. I thought that perhaps some of the greatness of the place was due to the alcohol I had consumed before, not the case! I love this place, for it's ease of choice and the quality of taste! Yum! Pel'Mini is here to satisfy your russian dumplings needs. I feel like Pel'Mini is the epitome of a good hangout place. The staff is nice- they let my friend and I have free dumplings if we helped them clean up after closing, they blast great music, and are very chill about dealing with every kind of customer. The food is making my stomach growl right now. Perfect little pillows of potato or meat goodness surrounded in a chewy pasta, then accompanied with a GENEROUS amount of sour cream (they always give you extra if you ask politely), some vinegar and spices (like curry powder), and even crusty bread on the side. The price is fair, and you get TONS of dumplings. The menu is simple- there are only two options- meat or potato. I, myself, feel daring whenever I go for the half-and-half. I'd write more, but I'm about to head over there and get some right now... Those little dumplings are addictive. read more

Bellingham's go-to 2 am drunk food heaven. It earns that title with laid back staff, an extremely simple menu, a bathroom always open to the public and very late hours. To the drunk brain, "Meat or potatoes?" is the best question ever. However, for anyone seeking something outside that sour-cream and hot sauce filled box, it may come up short. I have admittedly been in during daylight hours, but only to use the bathroom while browsing at Buffalo Exchange next door. i do not plan on eating there again, last time I ate there (some time ago now) the employee at the register ranted about not being able to see "tits" at a show going on at the time. she then began to talk about "trannies" and their "fake balloon tits" it was a hostile and transphobic environment with many slurs and sexist remarks. I do not plan to eat there again. if you are okay with this atmosphere then I recommend the potato. read more

I went here for some late night dumpling cravings! Honestly - the staff there are so sweet and down to earth. Walk in and up to the counter. Ask the guy at the front for the menu. He tells me there isn't one and that they only have potato or beef dumplings. I ask him for a combo of both. He quickly gets on it and 8 mins later I get an amazing little dish in a small compostable container for $7. Love little spots like this! read more

This is not only the best food when you're drunk but just great food period. The meat dumplings are good but I prefer the potato dumplings. They are best soaked in rice wine vinegar and sriracha. It also comes with bread. It's very affordable and quick. I highly recommend this place. read more

I know a lot of people that LOVE this place. I find it a bit bland. The seasoning is pretty bland and you usually have to douse your food with hot sauce and sour cream to enjoy it. Lines are pretty long too, but find me something else at 3am. And it is a nice, yummy drunk snack. read more
