At first glance it's an interesting corner joint next to a couple other businesses, but it turns out to be quite a fetching little spot! They have a pretty much perfect interior design and furnishing: very chill and simple but also very charming decor. Menu is very straightforward and simple and has pretty good pricing especially for a Bellingham spot. Service was great and not overstimulating like many places. Food was actually extremely well thought out and executed. Platings come in 2 sizes with simple choices of fillings/sauces, and the portion sizes were excellent- 1lb for me (a bigger guy) and 1/2 for the lady and we both were comfortably full after eating! Dessert deserves its own section in this review because holy mole: it was truly impeccable. I've had quite a few desserts in my time but these really "took the cake". Honey cake was beautiful and soft, it had a gentle sweetness and almost had a spiced undertone to it. Very light and very well executed, it sat perfectly with the dumplings. But the CRÈME BRÛLÉE :') I truly could weep over how beautiful this dish was, it was like I found the love of my life all over again. Gently centered on a plate half dusted with powdered sugar, topped with a small fresh strawberry and sprig of mint. Truly mind boggling how good it was, an incredible mix of sweet crème and gentle taste of black tea. I never expected this to be such a great combination but it was incredibly well executed. Whomever the mastermind was behind the creation of the menu and shop: I tip my hat to you, for this was a truly wonderful experience. Everything was obviously very thoughtfully planned out and perfected, I have mad respect for their work. 2 plates of dumplings, 2 drinks and 2 desserts was under 80$. Russian dumplings on demand! I only tried two flavors so this review is off a limited experience. Upon walking in during the day there was not a single person within view xD. Not even staff, however we did not wait long till we were helped. We ordered a bunch of side dishes and dumplings. We were left to our own reading as the service wasn't too helpful with explanations but the menu wasn't too complicated so that helped. We ordered a small and a large but they came out the same size so unsure if they misheard us or not but we ended up eating everything anyway so it worked out in our favor. Overall the food was comfort level and satisfying but not really enough. The beats were a good texture but the pickled vegis couldve used more zing and crunch. So good and authentic! I came here a few weekends ago craving comforting food during the rainy cold season and this hit the spot. The process is simple: pick your pelmeni (so many options both traditional and non-traditional), pick a side (the pickled carrots were delicious), grab a number and sit down. Coming here definitely makes me want to step up my own pelmeni. I love that it doesn't just have to be the classic sour cream and ketchup combo. They also have a great Russian drink selection, very nostalgic if you have soviet-era parents. I tried the dushersts (my favorite) and the ever classic kvass. My bf got the sweet chili soy but he kept asking for one of mine. lol. Shared a side of the OG cabbage salad. Everything was great!! The dumplings were delish and the salad refreshing. They brought water to our table, and were attentive to those dining in (it was full). Casual, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. It is more expensive than the other dumpling place in town but it is obvious that there is a larger crew present, far more options available on the menu and more customer service provided and therefore more costs involved. Cute little place, clearly a family run operation which I love. The girl who took my order was friendly and explained everything to my novice self. Food arrived quickly. The price isn't *cheap* as I ordered both the meat and potato to try both...but I did take half of it home with me so it's really 2 meals. Absolutely worth it and I'll be back. I'm actually obsessed with this place, like, to the point where it drives my loved ones a little crazy. My go-to is either classic or chicken dumplings with tikka masala and caramelized onions. I was probably too excited to try out Russian style dumplings in the PNW... Place looks nice with pictures of kids enjoying dumplings. Perhaps owners kids? It was empty. I was the only one there. I always wonder when I go to any food establishments that are this slow. Either their food is not that good or they have bad service or overpriced. I ordered a whole LB and my girls got drinks from the cooler fridge. I guess I should have paid more attention, but the lady charged me for 2 orders. Only realized that after I sat down and was wondering why my bill was like $90. When I went to the counter, the assistant pretty much placed the blame on me... " sorry for the misunderstanding " But the thing is there was no misunderstanding, I was pretty clear on what I ordered, either she wasn't listening or paying attention... She did offer me a refund, but at the time the food was already at the table. I chose to just take the "extra" surprise order to go. Dumplings were mediocre at best. I have had my share of Russian dumplings all the way from Moscow to New York to Chicago and this was hands down was the loser of all. It was confusing and a little scary finding the front door, required walking in either two drive through pick up lanes for a neighboring restaurant and coffee stand that had cars in them or around the back where there isn't a sidewalk the entire way and through a gated patio's . It was fun being able to select a sauce to go with and the many pickled sides were a bonus. We order a half order of classic with tikka masala sauce and half order of chicken with garlic butter sauce, side of snacking pickles and pickled cauliflower. The garlic butter sauce tasted good, pickled veg was great. The classics dumpling was good though the tikka masala sauce was lacking flavor and tasted as though it either came from a can or used Campbells tomato soup as a base. The chicken dumpling had unappetizing crunchy bits throughout that seemed to be cartilage. Way over priced for what it was. Service was ok. I had to ask more than once for a to go container, even though at least one employee was just on their phone in the back. Not some place I'll crave, for the quality and location. read more
