Our entire family grieved the loss of one of the best dim sum and Chinese cuisine restaurants in the Riverside area. But lately, there was a lot of talk, good talk, that the same owner had reopened here, a tinier bistro setting, not as flashy interior. So here we are, finally, late to the party, but sublimely happy. First things first. An order of their siu mai. Still just as plump, with their signature, wonderful pork- shrimp filling, my taste buds let out a big sigh of relief. I've had to endure some pretty horrible ones from other restaurants lately. Big Skyy's is superb. Next, the black bean pork ribs. Wonderful, just as we remembered. A healthy portion, plenty of meat in spite of the bones. Great gravy. Finally, the eggplant with beef. This one was extra special, made with generous amounts of filet mignon, eggplant cut in spears, cooked in a salty sweet garlic sauce that is very special. It was melt-in-your-mouth, swoon worthy. One of my favorites. They still accommodate large family groups, a few big round tables for 6 or more. The staff was very friendly and took the time to answer all our questions. They feature the same marvelous menu and the same chef who creates those traditional Chinese dishes with pizzazz. It's wonderful to re-acquaint ourselves with an old "friend". It's even better to know, the important things we remembered have not changed a bit. You would be right to assume we will be back!

This saucey dish comes in a styrofoam container with a bag slid over but it leaked out every where with any movement. Sauced dishes should come in sealable containers. This is the standard. And, the beef and snow peas were tasteless. I added hot sauce and the soy sauce they gave me and it is still not enough to save this dish. While waited they brought me water and fried noodles with sweet sauce. This is a nice touch. They also gave an almond cookie. The AC was cold and comfortable in the restaurant. I want to like it here but the food is not flavorful enough for me. And the food taste is the most important thing so I don't think this is for me. Also the soy sauce packet is terrible. And has corn syrup.

The manager then told us something about "our mistake" upon paying, placing blame on us . Additionally, the limited space effectively cuts the daily selection in half compared with the much restaurant on La Sierra. Sun faded illustrations of menu items on the west-facing wall are still legible, and a few customers in the crowded entryway were ordering made-to-order noodles and entrées. I, however, just wanted a standard two-item combination of orange chicken and jalapeño chicken with fried rice. Once my turn came it went quick and smooth. Fortunately, there are a few outside tables distributed for the customers of this and adjacent restaurants. I found the orange chicken to be crispy and dry. It was towards the end of the night, but still. A bit disappointed and I didn't eat it all. Their take on jalapeño chicken is actually pretty good. Spicy and a good sauce, which the rice soaked up. Summary: The price was fair for the quantity, but I think the limited space and corresponding reduced selection keeps interesting menu choices offered elsewhere to maybe one or two items, of which one display, didn't appeal. Friendly cashier though, but if they have a prime time, it's probably mid afternoon.
