On a beautiful long weekend Sunday, I decided to make a trip out to North Van to finally try Loam,…read morewhich had been on my list for months. I arrived around 930am without a reservation and although it was pretty empty inside, most seats were reserved. Luckily they were able to squeeze me in before the next group came. There were a couple dishes I wanted to try and on the server's recommendation, I went for the lobster eggs benedict. It was served in a beautiful presentaiton of bright colours and a generous serving of lobster meat. The spring salad was the perfect side as it cut through the richness of the hollandaise and the perfectly poached runny egg. One of the previous reviews noted that the poached eggs in the shakshuka were overdone, which made me hesitant to consider that dish, but next time I might try that since the benedict eggs were perfectly cooked. Parking was super easy at the time of day, pay street parking in the surrounding blocks. Will definitely be back to try the other dishes!

Hands down, the best sausages I've ever had at any breakfast place. I love how they make their eggs, and the potatoes and beans are perfect. It's a little on the expensive side, but the quality of the food makes up for it. I can only speak for the English breakfast, though, as that's all I've had so far. Certainly wont be the last.

Featured here: Egg Bacon Sandwich Ham and Cheese Panini sandwich Classic Avocado Toast Earl Grey Tea Iced Mocha Rooibos Cherry Rose My daughter said she couldn't really taste the cheese much in her sandwich, but still enjoyed the sandwich all the same. Her Iced Mocha was very nicely done. I found my Avocado Toast a bit on the salty side, and wasn't impressed with the egg that sat upon it. Runny yolk is what I like to see, but the yolk in this egg was very dry. They have a nice selection of cakes in their display case. I might come back here again to have some tea and dessert but don't think I'll bother with their savoury foods again. Service: Good Parking: Free parking on the street

Not only is the environment of the cafe peaceful and welcoming but the staff arise friendly too. They have a good selection of drinks, fresh pastries, light meals, and gelato. Drink was topped with layer of cream form. it was very creamy and nicely sweet paired with Matcha latte well. Matcha latte itself was ok. I wish a little less ice in it. I really liked the light sprinkle of salt on the top! It was a nice accent. They also offer Saskatoon Berry soda and Maple leaf cold brew. I highly recommend their Taste of Canada drinks collection item!

It's probably best to get the coffee black here, there's lots of good varieties :) my bf and I got a vanilla latte and a mocha. I wish there was oatmilk, but at least they have almond, coconut and soy. The drinks' flavors (vanilla and chocolate) were pretty tame and not very sweet, and you can taste the umami coffee notes coming through subtly like a heat lamp. Definitely meant for a mature palate.

Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the food and honestly felt ripped off. I ordered the pesto chicken sandwich, and there was hardly any chicken or pesto in it. The bread was also poor quality, and the sandwich didn't taste fresh. For such a small sandwich, the price was extremely high. Compared with other cafés offering similar food, the price is almost double while the quality is much lower. They really need to reconsider their sandwich supplier or start offering freshly made sandwiches. I also found it frustrating to be prompted for a tip when it is essentially self-service--you pick up your own food and clean up after yourself. There were also many used cups and dishes left sitting along the window that nobody had cleared away. It's a shame because the place has a cozy atmosphere and friendly staff, but the food quality, cleanliness, and pricing need significant improvement.

Grandma was the one who saw the sign and thought it might be a nice place to try sometime.  Newsflash: The "Gooey Cinnamon Rolls" at West of Java come from Grounds for Coffee! Didn't know this when I stepped into the shop. It was while we were sitting down, enjoying our food and drink that I looked out the window and noticed the Grounds for Coffee logo printed on the "Gooey Cinnamon Rolls" sign that's hanging outside the shop. It's small and easy to miss, but it's unmistakably the Grounds for Coffee logo. I was over the moon when I realized that I no longer have to drive all the way to Commercial Drive or Alma St. to get those Cinnamon Rolls. Now I can get them anytime we go to visit Grandma!  Aside from my excitement about the Cinnamon Roll discovery, our drinks at West of Java were pretty nifty as well. We had Mocha, Chai Latte and a Matcha Latte.  I was also elated to discover that they allow people to bring in their own reusable cups and that you can get a discount for doing so!
