UPDATE on 2/28/2019: Upgrading my review of Pegah's to 5-star. On each of my last four visits, the hash browns (and everything else) have come out perfectly. Not sure whether they regularly monitor social media feedback as closely as they typically did, but I've noticed a marked improvement over the last month in how the food looks coming out of the kitchen. As I mentioned in earlier review, the friendly service has always been top-notch. My only knock before was inconsistency on just a few menu items. Hopefully, with the apparent resolution of that, there's now nothing to complain about here. Just, quite simply, good eating at a good price with outstanding service. Enjoy! read more

On our way up to Temecula we decided to breakfast here. Yelp's search feature is great and I've got several highly rated breakfast/brunch places bookmarked just for occasions like this. Pegah's is located in Northern Escondido which is an older part of town. Pegah's Kitchen is inside a small unassuming building on the corner of a residential area. Inside, it was busy (Saturday morning) but we were seated within 10 minutes or so. Orders were taken quickly. I ordered the special: Banana stuffed French toast with eggs and sausage. Food came out quickly and the dish and service were great. I love supporting these little local diners, they're holding onto a little piece of history, something most chains aren't doing. read more

I enjoyed my first time experience here at Pegah's Kitchen. I got a mint hot tea and a California Benny. I love benny's and this one really hit the spot this morning with the lightly sweet fruit. I love any place where I can get a consistently good eggs Benedict, any day of the week. It has the right amount of hollandaise, and the English muffins taste homemade. With a choice of hashbrowns, homefries, or fruit, that should be enough choices for anyone. They also have a couple of the wacky Benedicts, but you won't see me ordering those. They have coupons that come in the mailers, which only work on weekdays. One of them is $7 Free entree with purchase of an entree & 2 drinks. There's not a ton of choices at breakfast: kid's meal, senior meal, or panake or waffle. Not too bad, considering it's free (but you are spending about $5 in drinks, not the best if you're one of my water-only friends, LOL). There are a few other kinds of coupons, currently, which may be better depending on what you're ordering or if you are eating solo. Service is always super friendly. We've never had a problem getting refills, or to go boxes for our food. The parking can be a problem, however. They only have maybe 6 or 7 regular spots, plus 2 handicap. After that, you're on the street. It gets crazy busy on the weekends, especially since they're only open til 2:30. If you can, come a little later on a weekday and save some hassle. read more

Our go to spot from now on in the north county area. Wife and I ordered their country fried steak. Very filling and generous portion size. Fran our server was awesome and very friendly even in this hot summer season. One thing to love about this place is they care about their workers. They close early because of the heat in the kitchen. We've been here several times and never disappoints. Was seated right away. Lots on the menu to choose from. I had the grilled ham & cheese breakfast sandwich and my daughter had the kids French toast with egg and bacon. Coffee isn't my favorite but it isn't a deal breaker. My daughter enjoyed her hot chocolate. Everyone is always friendly and this place has great service but if you ever get a chance to sit in Sierra's section, I'd highly recommend her. Sweet lady. It is set up like an old diner. First come, first served, and sit where you fit. The breakfast menu was not marked for gluten free, but there was an highlighted box explaining what can be gluten-free... pancakes, waffles, and French toast. I am all about French toast. It was a multigrain bread, but still delicious. The hash browns are solid. The coffee is okay. My hubby had a skillet and loved it. I was not glutened and walked out with a full tummy and a smile. Coffee was so watery and when we asked them to make us a new one, they said it's impossible to make a new pot of coffee for us as they only make one pot every few hours apparently or some excuse like that. All of our cups were so dirty. Seats and table are sticky like syrup. Nima was rude and ignored us after we asked him to remake the coffee. Orange juice was out of a machine and was grey. They don't serve fresh OJ weirdly being a breakfast establishment. But the food was fine just your average denny's type of food. got The jalapeño hash which was cooked to perfection - crispy hash browns, just a little spice from the jalapeño, and perfectly cooked eggs. Our server Francine was so attentive - she made sure everyone in our 12-person group had exactly what we needed: tea for the tea drinkers, coffee for the caffeine-heads, water for everyone, and brought out the cholula bottles because she knew we like that premium hot sauce experience. Large groups are always hard and we, on our way to a wedding, were maybe particularly difficult, but she handled everything like a champ and we left with big smiles on our faces. I was in Escondido to have my car serviced. It was an early morning and all I could think about was chicken fried steak. And country gravy. I discovered Pegah's Kitchen on my Yelp app and decided to try the restaurant as they offered chicken fried steak with country gravy on their breakfast menu. Pegah's Kitchen isn't too far from the 15 freeway so getting there was quick and easy. They have a few parking spaces out front. Nima, the manager, was fast and efficient getting me a booth. His smile could brighten anyone's day. He would grab the pot of coffee and go to each patron to refill their empty cups. We started chatting and it turns out that he and his father own Pegah's Kitchen. I asked why it wasn't called Nima's Kitchen. He explained that Pegah is his sister and her name means dawn (I think). I ordered: CHICKEN FRIED STEAK: - You get a choice between home fries or hash browns. Stephanie, the super nice server, suggested the home fries as it's sauteed with peppers and onions. Nima suggested the hashbrowns. The girls won out that day. You also get a choice of two eggs. - The chicken fried steak has a nice crunchy batter to it. The beef patty was tender but a bit thin for my liking. The gravy was thick and had bits of sausage in it. I added a bit of salt for more seasoning. - You also get a choice of toast or a home made biscuit. I didn't eat the biscuit or home fries so brought it home for my grams to try later that day after work. Not a bad portion for $13 bucks (after tax, before tip). Stephanie was so kind and brought out extra gravy as well as a to go box when she set down my plate. I was happy to have discovered Pegah's Kitchen in Escondido. It's a quaint diner that was busy with happy repeat customers. read more

This was our first time here and we came because it was listed in a directory of gluten free restaurants (findmeglutenfree.com). My gluten-free friend says the gluten free bread - which is bought from a local directory - was tasty and had great texture. My French toast (with gluten) was very good, as were the scrambled eggs and bacon. Everyone in our party was pleased with their food and we plan on going there again. There were plastic dividers between the booths, but masks were not required and servers were not wearing them. No one seemed to be disturbed by our masks.
