I'm no coffee Diva, but I like my brew to 1. have distinct flava and 2. bitch-slap me awake. In any Bay Area Peet's you can ask a barista or bean pusher about their coffee and get a full answer in complete Strunk & White approved sentences. If they can't do that they refer to the handy-dandy Peet's Coffee Wheel, an "old-school" interactive method for figuring out what's what in the world of Peet's. Then you get the PhD breakdown of the genetic makeup of your coffee purchase. As it should be. Peet's Coffee has just started making inroads into Los Angeles so it's important for veteran Peet's drinkers to remember to exhibit incredible restraint when meeting the "Hell-A" version (there are only a few). No goin' all Jack Bauer on your coffee provider. In most cases, you'll find the same Peet's look and taste, but gag at the watered-down impotence of the coffee's flavor. For some dang reason they're brewin' it lighter. For those who do the Fredo, again expect it to lack the appropriate taste of Northern Fredo's; it's as if "just add water" has been written in the L.A.version of the Peet's barista bible. When ordering beans don't ask too many questions for you'll only get frustrated with the "laid-back" version of knowledge-base regardless of how much "Barista Boot Camp" these peeps have gone through. You'll hear crickets accompanied by puppy-dog blank stares. Just buy your 1pound bag and do home brew. Otherwise, glad to see Peet's making inroads into Starby's and Coffee Bean territory. Stood in line for a couple minutes before the guy behind the counter bothered to acknowledge me & the lady behind me & tells us that they closed 7 minutes ago. Not cool. I understand if they had already started cleaning, but he should have at least asked if he could help us (I just wanted a pound of beans to go - unground) after making us wait. My boyfriends cousin introduced him to Peets a couple of months ago. We had long whined about how Starbucks coffee tasted burned and how if you want a nice cold ice blended drink that the drink is all ice and air. And all of their sweetened drinks (mocha, etc) were overly sweet to the point of disgusting. I usually ask for a 1/2 a pump instead of their normal 4 pumps or so if I go there. So yes, we whined, but we still went there because it's convenient. I am so glad we were introduced to Peets! I haven't tried their hot beverages yet as it's been so hot lately, but I have been getting their iced lattes or iced mocha's here and there the last couple of months and I am officially converted. I ran into someone the other day when I went to Plate 38 looking for a Peets fix, who said "I am a Peets loyalist" lol. The coffee has a great flavor and the drinks are not overly sweetened. I bought some Peets coffee from the store and make my own espresso, coffee and iced drinks at my house now and they are delicious. I can get a great espresso using my cheaper espresso machine. I didn't think it was possible as I had previously used Starbucks brands and never got anything more then a slightly strong coffee taste from this machine. I busted out the espresso cups and make them for guests now and I am converting others to Peets fans. I would love to have one closer to my work, but I'll settle for having so many close to my house! read more

Back to Pasadena after a few months and had another excellent mocha here yesterday. I don't know why anyone would go to the other coffee chains for a latte type drink. They're actually trained how to froth milk at Peet's. I got some latte art too. There are some small independent espresso cafes around SoCal that can produce a slightly better mocha or cappuccino but I always feel like I've gotten my money's worth when I've been to Peet's. read more

This is such a great place. I have come here several times now. The last time I came was New Year's Eve. I asked the cashier what she recommended, and she said the salted caramel latte, so I chose that one. The barista was named Alicia, and she was so friendly and a really cool, down to earth person. I sat at one of the tables near the counter so I could talk to her, and I enjoyed sipping my salted caramel latte. It was very smooth and rich and creamy. I felt almost happy drinking it. This was definitely a great experience. The place is very clean, the service is great, and the atmosphere is very warm and inviting. The bathroom was clean and fully stocked as well. Peet's is not like the bustling chaos of Starbucks, and it cannot be compared to Starbucks either. Both places are pretty different, but I would choose Peet's over Starbucks any day. I just wish there were more locations, but this is the closest place to me. read more

Peet's is one of my favorite chain coffee providers. They offer a variety of permanent and seasonal blends. This location is pretty convenient as there is a bank, market, and tons of restaurants within walking distance. They also have a couple tables and chairs set up inside and out. It does easily fill up during peak hours. The staff is pretty chill. It depends on when you go. They are normally really welcoming and helpful with picking beans and choosing drinks. However, there have been a couple times when the baristas were stanky. My drinks have always been made to perfection. The pastries however are not so consistent. Some days they taste super fresh and amazing, other days, it seems as if they've been sitting out for a week. The ambiance is nice and relaxed. A good place for catching up with friends. Because it is a coffee shop, be ready for random people to talk to you. Not only talk to you for a couple minutes, but for hours. I enjoy good conversation with mostly anybody, but at the same time it doesn't really work out that well when studying or reading is the main objective. I like the coffee, but I generally go to a coffee shop to work remotely. The internet connection here is the worst I've experienced. The staff is friendly and the coffee is good, but like I said, that's not my thing when I visit a coffee shop. I come here often. I usually get a vanilla latte (iced or hot) and buy whole beans from them to use in my French press. I've always received great service, and the coffee tastes better to me than other chains. Definitely recommend if you want a great cup of coffee from a shop with multiple locations. read more

Normally, I like supporting mum&pop coffee shops, but for Peet's, I am willing to make that exception. They pull shots of espresso themselves rather than have an automated one do it for them (+1), always a friendly staff (+1) and there's typically a solid amount of foam in my order (+10). Though the place is usually packed with internet access limited to an hour, I am willing to sit and work elsewhere as long as I get my Peet's coffee first! read more

Hey, I go here too. We get our ground coffee and Americano's from Peets. We are so glad this place opened up as an alternate to sb. It's very convenient and next to Ralphs, Islands, and the Bank. I agree with other reviewers, they do have a knack for doing foam right, if you're into regular latte drinks. Also, the drinks are consistent unlike other competitors. read more

While I usually try supporting independent stores and am not a big fan of the whole chain coffeeshop thing, I have to admit Peets is good. Great enviornment, very courtiouse people. In comparing the soy chai with a MAJOR coffee chain I like how the soy chai is not too sweet. It is a more down to earth chai flavor. The 4 star rating is because of Tue lack of food choices. If there were a few sandwich options then this would definately get a 5 star rating. read more

I love Peets coffee so much,especially the Major Dickensons. It's a splurge even at Target to buy the ground/whole bean but worth it every once in a while. The Dunkin Donuts original and the Peets are the best store coffee IMO. I've been here a few times and the coffee guy always are nice but people sitting in there always give the evil eye,like coffee snobs or something. I just go in and go out. Great Peet's location in the Pasadena Foothill Plaza. Came here while waiting for my car to be fixed across the street at the Toyota dealership. I came early around 7:45am and the place was already filled with customers. Needed my coffee this morning so waited in the long line. Line was at least steadily moving. The workers were very nice and apologized for the wait. Ordered my usually vanilla latte with nonfat milk. I like how Peet's makes their coffee a little more on the sweet side. The location also has a nice clean set up and ambiance inside. Lots of people stay to read the paper and enjoy their morning coffee. read more

Coconut black tie is really good! I can definitely taste the coconut. It's also sweetened with condensed milk. The coffee is full-bodied too. I don't know why it took me so long to try Peet's. Oh and the staff is very friendly as well. read more
