I used to be a Starbucks gal, and converted to Peets last year. I've found it to be a good balance between the convenience of a chain, and the intimacy of a local cafe. Plus Peet's coffee beans are less acidic and taste better to me. This Millbrae location is great. The baristas are really friendly and the cafe is more spacious than some adjacent restaurants. I enjoy coming here and seeing some obvious old timers hanging out inside or on the sidewalk with their dogs. read more

This place was cool. In a very nice area. Very clean inside. Cashier was nice and even did a juggling trick with my card. Service was prompt. First time having the drink I chose which was a medium fog cold brew latte. The drink was well made and tasted great. This location has the worst customer service ever!!!! Not once, but twice have been ignored by staff. They are not knowledgeable about their product, and need to learn some social skills (not between themselves, but with the customers). I used to work for Peet's Coffee and Tea. Ordered a large soy latte and it was 1/3 foam. Manager seems to think this is normal and refused to remake the drink. I love Peet's coffee shop! However, this location has the worst customer service that I have ever experienced. I ordered a green tea latte with no foam. When I got for my drink was foam. I ordered a latte not a cappuccino. And it took her 10 min to make it, even people ordered after me got their drinks. When she called out my drink, she didn't call out properly. She said " Green latte and whatever.. " Really!? She probably realized her own mistake by reading off the screen, and pretend or hoping that i didn't noticed. So she doesn't have to remake the drink. I go to Peets daily ( in different location, they have better service and attitude ) if the workers there don't care about their customers' drinks. I won't want to waste my money here. Peet's new fruit shaker tea series is delicious! I ordered a citrus hibiscus, no vanilla syrup which was perfect for my citrus plate. Love the yuzu fresh puree and actual / dried slices of lemon. Now I have a drink I can enjoy any time of the day. Highly recommend! There was a mix up on my order which is understandable given it's hard to hear through the mask. Very friendly ladies behind the counter. It was almost 100° outside today. I ordered a medium iced white chocolate mocha and I'm glad the barista asked if I wanted it decaffeinated. My husband kindly offered to get coffee for me. He said it was chaos. There were two teenage trainee baristas on their own, with the manager nowhere to be found. They had to remake the drinks multiple times because they made the iced drinks hot, and it was taking forever. My husband was in a hurry, and didn't notice that when they remade them, they forgot to add the espresso to my drink. They were very nice, and ended up comping the drinks and giving him a coupon for a free drink. BUT MY COFFEE HAD NO COFFEE IN IT! When he got home and I saw the milky white coffee-less drink, I almost died. You don't send someone home with NO COFFEE IN THEIR COFFEE, even if you comp their drink! Over her shoulder another Peet's employee, a young man of about 19 or 20 years, gazed at me with an odd, fixed stare that was both vacant and intense at the same time. He could not answer the question, either, and the offered that he could ask his boss. Concerned at the disruption of flow-- cash to register, coffee to customer-- the barista, a more lively and slightly older fellow with black hair and the kind of smile that, when you see it on a car salesman or a hawker of insurance, you put your hand on your wallet to make certain it's still there-- friendly enough, but pointedly curious to learn with what nonsense this old guy was troubling his new employees. "I was just asking," I explained, hoping to put his earnest suspicions to rest, "what beans are in the medium roast." He looked at me without answering and then said, "It's a medium roast." At that point, I saw the futility of my inquiry. "Never mind. I'd like a short Americano, please." Cash then flowed, and, after a couple minutes coffee-- 12 full ounces brimming in the cup, to be exact. For them, working in the coffee shop was the same as stacking shelves at a big box store, except maybe less demanding. I used to think that Peet's coffee was too strong and too bitter. But that was then and this is now- I really like their coffee! Maybe its because since I last had Peet's, I've been training my taste buds to be a bit more sensitive to the nuances of coffee- not that I'm one of those coffee freaks able to tell their Sumatran from their Ethiopian beans, but I'd like to think that my palate is better than what it was before. Anyway, I stopped by here before work today to grab some coffee and a pastry to start my day. First off, the place is serene, even with a line of 5 customers- like Lisa C. mentioned, no one is screaming out orders and generally increasing the stress level of those in line. The baristas are friendly and work quickly to get your order in. I went with my standard small decaf coffee (thank god I can actually say 'small', instead of 'tall'- 'tall' always sounds to me like its going to be a huge cup of coffee) and an iced lemon scone. By the way, this Peet's has an amazing selection of pastries to go with your coffee, in particular the scones- they must have had like 6 different scones for you to choose from! My lemon scone was delicious though perhaps just the teensiest bit dry. The coffee was nice and bracing but without the slight burned quality that Starbucks' brew seems to have. 4 solid stars for the good coffee, pastries, and for being easily accessible. Its a Peets that beats out the Starbucks a couple blocks down. Lattes are nice and are not hot to the point they burn my tongue. Service is up to par and they know how to work in a fast and orderly manner. Best of all the are with the sugars and milks and napkins is clean! That is a big bonus, since customers like to rip open sugar packs and leave it all on the counter or leave milk drops everywhere. With far reaching, widespread homogeneous chains such as Peets, Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts etc. one really can't ask for "more" from location to location but can expect to not get "less" in a fairly reliable, predictable fashion. The extent of uniqueness is confined to location, customer experience and the like. I say this to say that five stars at a major brand isn't the same as five stars at an independent vendor. The independent locations have the freedom and potential to fluctuate wildly to impact the individual account. This Peets is my Peets. It is 'most' local to me. It is well operated and consistently serves my favorite vegan muffin even though I don't buy it on a regular basis. A friend of mine from childhood works here, it is nice to see him from time to time. I will say this: what makes this location exceptional is the effort put forth towards remembering every customer's name regardless of how often they visit. And this is every employee to every customer. That takes a lot of bandwidth and I respect that. I hadn't gone in a long while and after my first visit back three or four employees remembered my name. Nice. I can hardly remember my name that often. The weird thing is this Peets doesn't add water to my iced Americano... so it comes to me as shots and ice in a glass. Wow. This Peet's is located in a very cute little neighborhood shopping street just a block from our new place. I was very impressed with the neighborhood feel it has going for it. Coffee of the day today was the Major Dickason blend, which is nutty, rich and perfect in a soy au lait--it's a top-seller for a reason! Any way, in addition to yummy coffee, the 2 guys who served us were really chatty and nice. The displays were also attractive--it might just be leftover holiday stuff, come to think of it, because it was all on sale, but they had dishes, bowls, rounded mugs and pitchers in earth tones, which were reminiscent of some American Indian pottery traditions. Describing it kinda makes me want to go back and get some, actually. Anyway, with the free wi-fi and clean bathroom, this is a very good Peet's location. I like. read more

Very few tables and they're all taken by folks who seem to not have a day job and hang out here, chat with their buddies, and a bunch of empty cups of coffee! I'd give it 0 star if I can. Love Peets coffee but also want to be able to do some laptop here for a couple of hours. Why can't the owner of this franchise store add more tables and/or specify those for laptop use only with a time limit, to help prevent people using this as hangout place? read more

Disclaimer: I used to work at this location, so my opinion may be a bit biased. I love this place. Great coffee, nice employees, memorable regulars... I love the way the sun hits the windows in the morning and the quiet evenings just before closing with old friends catching up or two people on an awkward blind date. I actually had my college interview at this place; I was so nervous that my co-workers had to calm me down. Just a word of advice: if you need to pour out some coffee, do it over the little sink that dispenses water near the bar. For the love of god, don't pour it into the garbage can unless you want a trail of coffee drippings from the store to the dumpster out back. read more

Love this Peets location because it is in my stomping grounds. Never had a chance to give them my props... They definitely deserve it, as this is the spot where I grab my fresh beans for grinding up daily at home for my french pressed coffee before I hit the morning commute... This location has a few nice benches outside, and several tables and counters indoors as well. Nice big clean bathroom as well... The service and baristas are always nice and quick. They also support the local community (like the Meadows Elementary PTA) - which gives them some extra points in my book! read more

i don't think it is fair to mark down a coffee shop because they have an hour limit for wifi and that wifi is only for paying customers. My sister works at an asian coffee shop down the block where they dont have that system. guess what? people come in take up all the space and just use wifi all day.......where do the paying customers sit? no where. all the seats r taken by those wifi users i've visited this peet's a couple times. I go to this Peet's almost every morning and I'm consistently pleased with the quality, friendliness and speed of their service. Within three or four visits, they knew my name and my "regular" order. My only complaint about the establishment is that they don't have much seating. Only affects me on weekends, as my morning visits are carry-out. You get a code for wifi with purchase so whether you consider that "free", I don't know. That and it only lasts an hour until you have to get a new code. Yea, they'll probably extend it for you for free but just the fact that it's not completely free and unlimited was disappointing. It's 2012 man, there should be free wifi everywhere! However, for someone who doesn't drink much coffee, the Iced Baridi ($0.95 for small after $1 off w/ Yelp check-in) was pretty good and didn't need any sugar/cream. And it had to be pretty strong too b/c most coffees don't do it for me so kudos for that. read more

Its official, I've jumped ship from Starbucks and am now an official Peets fan. I used to think Peets was too strong, and gross, but now I love it! I'm not a coffee addict, so I only order two things from here, the chai latte (which is sooooo much better than Starbucks), and the iced white mocha with whip. Only thing I wish was that they would have lemonade, so I can get iced tea/lemonade, so I still go back to Starbucks for that. Couple of their pastries are good too. The pumpkin bread with some cream cheese filling is my favorite, Umm some pound cake with a lemon/orange taste, and the chocolate chip cookie is good too. Staff is super friendly,( turns out one of them used to be in my political science class haha) and knows my face since I come all the time now in the morning, and occasionally in the afternoon on weekends. San Mateo location (next to whole foods) is my second favorite, and then the Burlingame one (too crowded). read more

This is a nice Peet's, a bit cleaner and spacious than many I've visited. Just started coming here a month or so ago. Have made weekly visits since then. While I might generally prefer their coffee and cup logo to that of the green empire's, their limited number of locations sometimes allows the competition to prevail when it comes to vying for my PCF (petty caffiene fund). Free WiFi, friendly staff, ample street parking and a couple of free public lots 1/2 a block away make it fairly accessible. As another user stated, it's really nice and quiet after 6pm...great time and quiet place to chill by yourself or with friends. read more
