small kalbi plate
Angel H.

We were here yesterday for the 5x Hawaiian Miles event. If you spent at least $100 at Kahala Mall you would get 500 Hawaiian Miles. The hubby and I went shopping at the mall and got our miles. We picked up dinner from Pearl's. I've eaten at other Pearl's location, but it was my first here. The food was very good. Everything was well marinated. The veggies were fresh and the potatoes were well seasoned. We shared two plates: the mini kalbi plate $18.49 and the regular garlic chicken plate $18.49. The mini kalbi plate came with two pieces of kalbi. The garlic chicken plate came with a lot of chicken.

Chicken and meat jun

Friday at 6:20 pm Took 25 minutes for one plate. $22 for a combination meat jun and chicken plate. Too long of a wait.

My meat jun plate

My boyfriend, my daughter, her friend and I came here for the first time to eat dinner. Thanks to my boyfriend, he treated all of us for dinner. You basically order and tell them your sides. I ended up getting the meat jun with corn, potato salad, cabbage and broccoli. The meat jun was cooked perfectly and there was a bed of rice underneath. I even had leftovers to take home. So good and filling. There's tables inside to eat your food. The fountain drinks were Pepsi products so I ended up drink raspberry iced tea. So good. Highly recommend. Looks like this place was popular because a lot of people ordered from here. I would go back again.

Banchan... Love Pearl's in Kahala as not many places offer the choices to make your plate truly your own, but who doesn't have their own favorite as I do find myself diving into the banchan before the entree itself. Pearl is found in Kahala Mall in the area that's more designated for all things food and they are constantly busy as I noticed that immediately arriving there and decided to wait and shop at another store only to return to the line doubled in size. Very priced reasonable and is super yummy is why many do flock over and as I was craving something from here it was more that I was tired from a long day at work and though do still have some food at home decided to grab their "Vegetable Plate" which is just the side of banchan items and without rice will give me an extra choice making it a great assortment of side dishes as I got both shoyu and mayo potatoes, long rice, choi sum, cucumber Kim Chee. With that I had zero wait and got my plate immediately which made it an easy dinner support with a good amount of leftover for another night, and it's hilarious that there's no pics as this was a sign that I was too tired and hungry but they do have a great assortment of choices and made a perfect addition for the evening. Thank you!

I guess I can no longer edit my previous review. To sum it up, I found a screw in my chicken order and made a complaint online. The very next day corporate contacted me and apologized. They wanted to investigate this and I sent some pictures to them. They notified the manager at the location so that it doesn't happen to anyone else. I am really glad at the speed at and concern that they displayed. They thoroughly checked their kitchen and ensured me that they will do their best so that this does not happen to anyone else. Pearl's definitely redeemed themselves!!! Great service!!

I ordered the tofu soup that comes with sides. The soup was a bit hot for me. My teenage son enjoyed it. The sides were great. As for the wait time it took over 20 mins and customer kept having to return there plates due to the wrong orders were given out.

Meat Jun with rice regular (size) with four sides, chop chae, fried egg, cucumber kim chee, broccoli! ($17.00 on 1/2/2022)

Been coming to this store when it was on the other side of the mall but not until they moved to the back parking lot side did I come to appreciate their cooking. Now, they're my favorite place to order from here in Kahala Mall. What's to like? I like the variety of Korean dish plate lunch offerings, numerous side dish selections, the amount of food provided for most items, and the easy to access location with parking right outside. I'm usually ordering one of the following: Meat Jun Fish Jun Seaweed soup The first two come with choice of four side dishes; the third is a major soup I guess so it just comes with rice (even though the sign says it comes with side dishes, there's another sign on the counter that gives this exception). My favorite Korean foods are meat jun followed by kalbi, and when I get their meat jun in front of me, I'm in heaven. This deep yellow, egg-batter encased fried meat is flavorful soft and easy to enjoy. The taste is thoroughly yummy so you really don't need any dipping sauces unless you're looking for a spicy kick. The fish jun is a pretty good-tasting white fish (often mahi mahi) that I wish were much thicker slices, for the number of pieces provided is less than meat jun so you might feel a bit hungry after finishing this plate. The seaweed soup has great big deep rich beef brothy flavor and the seaweed has some firmness to it yet is simply al dente tender and soft. Consider yourself lucky if your plate comes with sides! Typical sides available; all are well-seasoned, mostly Korean-style: Chop chae Fried rolled egg Kim chee Shoyu potato Cabbage Choy sum Bean sprouts Broccoli Cucumber kim chee Seaweed Corn (kernels) My favs are cucumber kim chee, chop chae, egg, broccoli, seaweed, cabbage, choy sum. I wish the chop chae was not just noodles only but also prepared with veggies and thin short meat slices sprinkled with black sesame seeds. Considering it's a smaller store and although there are three rows of tables, it does not feel cramped to me. As one enters the establishment, the left side facing the back end is the order counter/cashier, the middle area showcases their many delectable side dish choices so you too can see what you will be getting and how much, and the right side area is the pick up counter. Then, right of this main front counter is the soda beverage machine. Ppl waiting for their orders tend to hang out in this area between the front counter and the soda machine. Me? I just walk back to the entrance area where I can still hear my order number loud and clear. The order-pick up process: place order on left side of long counter inside store, pay at same time, select side dishes if any, wait to the side until your number (bottom of receipt) is called, pick up on right side of long counter. At pick up, let them know if you need chopsticks or a fork (they might ask you first). You'll also be given a knife for meat dishes and a spoon for soups. Napkins will be included. Your food containers will be placed in a plastic bag with utensils and napkins on top. Sauces will be placed inside or inside the food boxes. Before leaving as at any other restaurant, it's a good idea to inspect your order to ensure you received the items and to ensure you are satisfied with the contents. The packing person will usually show you the contents before placing in the bag for you. THIS is the time to inspect! Prices - As expected bc of the Bidenflation and his administration's artifically-caused shipping issues, prices are ridiculously and astronomically high. I look forward to the day when soon this unwanted problem will be gone for good. However, despite the higher prices, this restaurant really does their best to fill your plate to the brim. The heft of the plate will feel like you made a great decision coming to this place! Thank you for always delighting my hungry tummy, Pearl's!

Walking in, it was dark, cozy, smelling delicious and it was Full House. We were seated quickly with servers that were friendly & fast. We picked the menu option on page 1, $77 per person lunch set menu that includes 4 types of meat, steam eggs, kimchi pancake, different dipping sauces; including bean paste dipping sauce and raw garlic slices and abundant Banchan little appetizer dishes. The meats were fresh and tasty. The spicy cold noodles were refreshing, and all the Banchan little dishes offered lots of varieties and refillable. You know this place is authentic when you have bean paste dipping sauce and raw garlic slices. They are not trying to tailor to westerners. The grill was hot, the meat was sizzling and the food kept coming. We ate as much as we can, and there were so much food, at the end. We were about to explode. This place is so good and we can't wait to come back.

Prices are definitely a little more than some other Korean restaurants but I think it's worth it for the quality of the meat and food as well as the service and inside area. Their Kimchee soup is amazing too, I highly recommend getting that! Japchae was yummy but not a standout. You're going to spend about $50 a head here. I'll be back!

There's sharpie graffiti everywhere, soju bottles lined up the wall and a sticker wall filled with so many stickers, you have no idea where to look. I could tell we're in for a good meal. We ordered a spicy squid with kimbab, chive jeon, and an extra bowl of rice to share. The spicy squid was not spicy, but had a smokey depth. I drenched the kimbab in that sauce and it was easily the best thing I tried here. The chive jeon was extra crispy and packed with veggies. We easily agreed that we need to come back with a few more people, so we can either share the army stew or joxxam dish. Thanks for reading my reviews! Let me know what I should try next!

I really enjoy the Korean comfort foods! 4 stars for the food, soups, and ban chan, 5 stars if the service was great. Typical service you will get at a Korean spot but no complaints. Just gotta be patient for ban chan refills or if you need anything else, I don't expect much just happy that I get to have my Korean food. During this recent Saturday visit, I decided to go here for our late lunch, after hiking Koko Head Trail & Makapuu. It was about 4:30 pm, we were the only ones there, but it filled up pretty quick an and they do have many take out and Uber/Door Dash orders. My favorites here are the combo set, choice of soondubu (combination, kim chee, spam, beef, sausage, clam,) & either meat jun, fried mandoo, bulgogi, yellow corvina, seafood jun, or BBQ chicken. The combo use to be $20.55 my first time but now went up to $23.55, hence the increase, it is still a great deal, this meal comes with rice and 5 different ban chan. This combo was more than enough for the both of us. My favorite is the spam soondubu ( yes. who picks Spam right?! hehe) & the seafood Jun. Although it so hard to decide since all the choices are good, I will have to visit again for the other selection. The other half and I cannot eat an entire combo set by ourselves. I love the ban chan, especially the daikon & kim chee, so fresh and crispy! When I first dined here, I was surprise to see they give you a fresh egg to crack in your soondubu soup, I am use to the egg already in there. We always have leftover soondu soup which I take home and add to my Korean ramen the next day, so good! Support this local mom & pop restaurant, So Gong Dong has been around for the longest time just only recently I've discovered it. I will be back for the next Korean soondubu, ban chan fix!

For the meats, the beef brisket and beef toro were the stars, but the beef chuck was slightly tough and dry. They were also out of bulgogi, which was disappointing. The pork had a really strong boar taint smell/taste, which completely turned me off from ordering any of the pork. We had to ask for more meat and banchan refills multiple times. There was usually a pretty noticeable lag before anything came out, which was frustrating for an AYCE spot. They also seemed to be selective about which banchans they would refill. They would bring more of the dishes like kimchi and cucumber, but when we asked for more tuna mac, they wouldn't give us any. It also looked like there were only two people working while there were probably around 10 tables during the Tuesday lunch rush, so I do think they were understaffed. If you're offering AYCE, the refills and service should flow a lot more smoothly. It felt like they were paying more attention the tables that selected a higher tier of AYCE. Not a terrible experience, but definitely not as seamless or enjoyable as I was hoping for.
