I stopped in here alone for lunch one day before perusing the shelves of the antique store in the same shopping center. I was craving some egg foo yung and was hoping they had it on the menu. I ordered wonton soup and the pork egg foo yung. As you can see from the photo the soup was the saddest I've ever had, when he put it down in front of me I almost laughed out loud. The egg foo yung was decent, if I had another craving for it I would definitely get it here again, maybe without the pork next time. Fried rice was just rice with soy sauce. Inside is aged and you can tell it's been there awhile, server was competent but very taciturn. read more

This is your classic Chinese restaurant. Dimly lit, black tables, and a boy rolling up wontons in the back seating area. I got the friend noodles with pork! It was a lot of noodles. And their egg rolls are delish! It was pretty dead, being a day before New Year's Eve, with only one other family besides us. So our server made sure our drinks never went below half way. I have been a patron of this restaurant for the past 15 years, and never unhappy with the food-until last night. I haven't eaten out in a while and wanted to treat myself, so I ordered my favorite chicken egg foo young. I picked it up promptly, and had it home within 5 minutes. What a let down. The egg foo young was basically huge pieces of chicken, very little egg and veggies. The sauce, which is all important, was thin and extremely salty. The combo came with fried rice. The rice was mushy, with almost no egg, and pretty much tasted like mushy rice with soy sauce. The dumpling and egg roll were flavorful but cold and soggy. This is my first bad experience here and I am wondering if they have a new chef. It was just very disappointing. read more

Giving them 1 star because zero stars is not an option. I have lived in the area for years and have always passed this place up and decided I would finally stop in today. Upon entering there was no one at the front counter. I then assumed if there was no one there to greet customers, that I would need to seat myself. I glance up and see a few people eating and proceeded towards the dining area. An older man looks at me and rudely says, yes? As if I'm bothering him. Not a hello, not a welcome, not a name tag, not a uniform that would let me know that he works there. Not knowing who he was, as this was my first time in, I politely tell him excuse me and I proceed to go sit in a booth. After about two minutes the same man approaches my table and says frustrated, "what do you need?" Again....I'm confused. To model a welcoming conversation, I say, "hello, how are you? I would like to order some shrimp egg foo yung" he then gets further frustrated and says, "so what you need is a table for 1. You need to tell me what you need or otherwise I don't know" and he then angrily snatches up the other placemat and utensils. Upon him doing that, I decided that this was not the place for me. Before leaving I told him, when a customer enters your establishment you first greet them with a hello so that it is clear that you actually work there. I then stood up and left. Being new to the area, this was my first visit to the establishment. I can honestly say, I was not at all impressed. I ordered the Fried Rice Combo with added egg and an appetizer of chicken wings. The rice seemed old. It was very hard, the egg that was put into the rice was even harder and not at all edible. The wings seemed to be old as well, at least a day old. None of the food seemed to be fresh. I can sadly say that I will not coming back to this establishment and I wasted my money on this dinner. read more

We have been looking for 4 months for a great Chinese restaurant that we can call home. Our last Chinese restaurant that we had gone to for over 30 years had closed so we were on a mission to find an authentic Chinese restaurant. We read the reviews on Yelp and Google and decided to give Pearl Chinese Restaurant a try. We went on a Sunday evening and we were the only dine in customers most the others were people picking up their orders. The waiter was very friendly, helpful and professional. The restaurant was neat and clean. The temperature of the restaurant was a little warmer then I would like during a summer time but it was bearable. I ordered Szechuan beef, orange chicken with fried rice. My wife ordered sesame chicken with steamed rice and an order of vegetable lo mein. For appetizers we ordered crab rangoon and steamed dumplings. Wow!!!!!! I was so happy to find a restaurant that knows how to prepare a Szechuan plate that was so perfect. For me if a Chinese restaurant can't make Szechuan properly it is a deal breaker. Pearl Chinese Restaurant definitely knows how to make Szechuan. The orange chicken was extremely good with a slight sweetness plus a hint of spice to it. The sesame chicken was totally on point slightly sweet but just the right amount. The vegetable lo mein is another plate that myself and my wife are very picky about. And yes the Lo mein at Pearl Chinese Restaurant was another homerun for us. Our crab rangoons with dipping sauce was extremely good and the steamed dumplings with sauce was also excellent. After speaking to the waiter he advised me that Pearl Chinese Restaurant has been in Grapevine for 30 years. This made us very happy to hear. I do know some people have given Pearl Chinese Restaurant a low rating or have not had a good experience at times. But our experience was beyond great and we now have a new favorite Chinese restaurant that we will now call home. We ordered delivery through yelp, it was delicious! We got crab rangoons, veggie lo mein, orange chicken, and two sides of fried rice. All of which were so yummy. I requested specific veggies in my lo mein and they delivered, it was perfect. My husband LOVED the orange chicken, says it's his new fave. The sides of fried rice were very good as well. The rangoons were the flat triangle shape which i prefer and they were amazing. Overall, will be back as this was a very yummy dinner!! read more

We were greeted by a man that I assume was the manager/owner. Friendly reception. We were seated quickly in the somewhat dated dining room. It was clean and peaceful. The solitude was a pleasant change from the dining spots that have to have music blaring. I ordered the Double Sautéed Pork combination which includes egg roll, soup (I choose hot and sour), and rice (fried rice) along with the pork and mixed vegetables. The soup was hot, somewhat spicy and very tasty. This was a good start. The entree came out and looked pretty good. I started with the egg roll. It was better than average, but part of the wrapper wasn't cooked. It was if it wasn't submerged in the hot oil. The filling was slightly hot. Flavor was better than many I have eaten at other Chinese spots in the area. The pork and veggies looked nice, with bright colors and good texture. The pork looked like roasted or bbq pork. It was sliced about 3/8 inch thick. Some was very lean but other pieces had a lot of fat. I could have dealt with that but it was all only luke warm. The fried rice and egg roll were both reasonably hot. The seasoning was not the usual brown sauce out of a jar stuff. The overall flavor was better than 90 percent of the other Chinese food I have eaten in the DFW area. Temperature is important to me and Chinese food is traditionally served very hot. I might give this place another try, hoping for hot food. The pork was a disappointment, but the veggies and sauce were exceptional. The egg roll had great flavor. Stopped in for lunch, so glad we did. They have great lunch specials. They come with entree, soup, rice, egg roll and fortune cookie. All for something like $7 I had the hot and sour soup, it was very good. The spring roll was crunchy and not greasy. I ordered Broccoli with Garlic Sauce and the broccoli was cooked perfectly, it was still crunchy and fresh. We ordered steamed dumplings for the table, they were great. Decided to try this place bc we wanted soup dumplings, which by the way they don't. Oops my bad. Lol we still decided to stay and eat. We are so happy we did! Started with the steamed dumplings. Great and filling. Also a nice size! Also had the hot and sour soup. I'm not a fan of that soup I'm general, but it came with the lunch special. Not bad, but my tummy just can't process hot and sour soup. The little fried wanton thingys were so crunchy and yummy asf! I got the beef Szechuan. It was so yummy and the beef wasn't gooey like some places. The fried rice was also yummy too, it wasn't oily or have a weird after taste. The spring roll and egg rolls were also great. I've been craving some mongolian beef and just haven't been able to get it for months. So I started working over here in the Grapevine area and looked up a couple of other places and was like they are way over priced and unless it's a special occasion I'm not planning on spending $30 for lunch. So I found this place on Yelp and looked at pictures and other reviews so I decided to give it a try. Well I was pleasantly surprised and they have a great lunch special where it comes with your entree, rice, an egg roll and soup. But you only get the soup if you dine in. But I could PAY and order soup and have it so what's up with that? But it was $7.75 for the lunch special which is not bad at all. I'm giving it a solid 4 due to the easy access from my job and now I can have chinese food any time I want to without having to cater to my boyfriend or sister when we go. And it's not going to break my wallet! The food was fresh, and had a great taste. I would definitely want to eat in one day but that is when I can use my full lunch hour and not 30 minutes because I thought it was a good idea to go to T-Mobile and just ask about the new iPhone. I would have taken a picture and posted it but I ate it so fast and remember when I was 3/4 of the way done and that's not cool. So I will post pictures the next time. The Pearl has been a Grapevine style for decades. I would call it basic serviceable Chinese/American - not as good as Dragon House, but a step up from the old Grapevine Egg Roll House. I have been coming here for more than a decade and Pearl's has consistently been awesome. Lunch specials here are very reasonable and very tasty with large portions. They also come with a soup and egg roll. Some of my favorites here that are my go to's Any type of lo mein is great. I just love their beef and broccoli. Their fried rice is always good. The general Tso's chicken is flavorful and good. The lunch soups are the finest around with my favorite going to the egg drop soup. The soup is very sweet tasting with bits of corn in it. I always without fail order it. I know they also have two menus here. One for everyone and the authentic Chinese, which I can't read off of. On top of theirs they have pretty decent ramen. I'm exploring that part of their menu now. So far I had the Tonkotsu which was average. I plan to try all 20 versions that they have. Overall I give the restaurant service and food 5 stars. This was one of my favorite restaurants in Grapevine, yet truly one of the most unassuming. It is not fancy, new or even overly stylish. It is a bit dark and mysterious inside and will take your eyes a few moments to adjust but once they do you will find a vast menu of every chinese popular dish imaginable. All the selections for lunch come with soup, eggroll, and choice of rice and moat arenin the 7 to 8 dollar range, a true bargain in this area. The staff is always friendly and helpful. It used to be really great many years ago. The last two orders I recently placed within the past year (for pick up) - they gave a large 'American' amount of food, but the food tasted 'old' and reheated. I live 5minutes away, so it's not like it took 45mins to receive. Service is good though. Maybe it's the difference between 'take out' vs dining-in food? Not sure I would return - if so, I may try eating-in to see if there is a difference in the quality of food vs that from pick-up. read more
