The staff here are just the nicest people. I had to start out with that because how you're treated in a sit down restaurant is so important. Sean (sp?) and the rest of the crew are just really lovely. I took my dad, niece, and nephew for dinner here on Friday, August 28, and the kids had never tried Indian food before. My dad had only ever had store brand butter chicken soup from H-E-B and a chicken birria burrito. It was bound to be an adventure. My sister told me not to get my hopes up because my niece is the pickiest eater ever. I could not have been more thrilled with our experience. We had to order a bunch of naan, the kids loved it. I was super surprised they didn't order the fried rice dishes. They were actually adventurous! My nephew ordered the 2 piece tandoori chicken, and my niece ordered the chicken curry! I was so nervous they might not like what they ordered, but they loved all of it. My nephew ate almost all his chicken, and my niece ate half the curry and actually asked if she could take the rest home because whe liked it so much. My dad somehow found room to finish his entire huge bowl of butter chicken. He told Sean it was amazing, I was so pleased. My own palak paneer was to die for, seasoned perfectly. Sean was so kind to the kids, he brought them a special sweet treat of Nutella on naan, big hit. My nephew had to get the mango magic drink to go (no idea what it's actually called, but that's what I call it), and I had to get one for my boyfriend. (I got major girlfriend points for that, lol!) My dad commented when we left that one of his favorite things about Tabla was how clean it was. They definitely take pride in their restaurant, they take pride in their food, and they are so nice. I can't wait to go back, Sean made me promise to try the fried rice or Szechuan chicken next time, and that's fine by me because I love both those things. read more

Repost with corrections* I'm not familiar with this part of Grapevine, but it was an easy drive. It sits just off the street and isn't hard to find. When I walked in, there was an ample amount of seating for those waiting to be seated. The host/hostess desk is just around the corner in the bar area. The only issue I had with that was, when you first walk in, you aren't greeted. You have to walk into the bar area to get assistance. Patrons walking in and not being greeted due to the lack of visibility, may dampen the visit for first-time visitors. You only get one first impression; make it count in the best possible way. To-go order: Chili Garlic Shrimp (Mild) Entree - I really wanted to like this, but it was definitely not enjoyed. I ended up throwing it away. I'll do my best to explain. It was described as a gravy, but I had no idea what it was. Oddly enough, you could taste (sort of) the spices, but it was really bland and had too much liquid. The shrimp weren't seasoned either, but were cooked perfectly. After you finished your bite, it had an unpleasant aftertaste. I was done after one shrimp. I didn't taste the garlic, and I assume that would have been the main ingredient other than the shrimp. Appetizer: Chili Garlic Fish - This was the biggest disappointment; like the above, it was also not edible. I didn't get the point of this dish; I felt it was a waste to have on the menu. The menu said it was fish, but it had the texture of meat. It was really dry (as seen in the photo); it lacked seasoning and was completely bland. Garlic Naan: This was okay, but I don't think they use fresh garlic. The host explained the naan would have been perfect to dip in the entree, but nope, it wasn't. Takeaway: The gentleman who assisted me was great; he was well-versed when I asked about the menu and was able to answer all that was asked. Reading some of the other reviews, I feel it would be best for them to create a menu that focuses on their strengths and to eliminate the "fusion" part of the menu. I'm surprised; the food was great at the Fort Worth location. I have no idea what changed, but I hope things improve for them. There are several Indian restaurants in the metroplex who exceed at what they serve; I don't want Tabla to get lost in the mix. Are they worth the visit? Of course, but be mindful of what you get. read more

The restaurant has plenty of outdoor seating and huge bar area. It feels like a place that would work really well for a group gathering or even a private event. Our server, who is also one of the restaurant's partners, was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful when it came to choosing dishes. He took the time to explain the menu and made great recommendations, which made the experience feel very welcoming. The mango mojito mocktail was one of my favorites. It was refreshing with a really nice balance of sweet and tangy flavors. For appetizers, i tried the Chicken 65 and Chicken Manchurian, both wok-tossed. The flavors were there but didn't quite came together and unfortunately both dishes were extremely oily. It wasn't just a little extra oil....the oil was almost dripping off the food and felt like it had become part of the sauce itself. I actually love fried food and this stood out to me! The chicken korma had the familiar korma flavor profile but with a different twist. The coconut cream gave it a distinct flavor. Still, It didn't feel very authentic. The rice served alongside the korma also had a sticky texture that I didn't find to be the best match for the dish. I ended up ordering naan instead. The naan was okay, although it was quite thin and more like a flatbread, and I would have preferred it to be softer and fresher. Overall, I really enjoyed the atmosphere and hospitality. I think my experience came down more to the specific dishes I ordered rather than the restaurant itself. There's definitely a lot to like about the space and service, and I'd be open to coming back to try some of their other dishes. read more

My boyfriend, friend and I went to Tabla in collaboration with Yelp. We were excited to try a new local restaurant. The interior of the restaurant is clean and well-lit. The service was fantastic. We had two different servers and they made sure we were all taken care of and knowledgeable about the menu. We had saw some negative reviews about the food, but were very open minded. All 3 of us enjoyed our food thouroughly. I got the burnt garlic rice, which was very fresh and flavorful! I also received the veggie samosas, which were large and very filling. We also got garlic and cheese naan to share with the table. The garlic naan was perfect- no too much garlic but very flavorful. The cheese naan was my favorite item we ate (all 3 of us agreed). It's a must get if you go! The cheese is actually inside the naan. Please go try out the restaurant and be patient as they start to establish organization and routines! :) read more

I'm a Florida native and have eaten at the original Tabla plenty of times. I really wanted to enjoy this place, but unfortunately, it was a miss. I went with a friend, and we ordered the chili paneer and gobi Manchurian as starters, both spicy. The chili paneer was pretty good; however, the gobi Manchurian was soggy when it's supposed to be crispy and have a nice crunch. We both ordered the weekly combo special, which consists of paneer butter masala or butter chicken, steamed rice, plain naan, and one gulab jamun. After reading a previous review about food coloring staining someone's fingers, we made sure to request no food coloring or dye, and they were able to accommodate us. I ordered the spicy level, and my friend ordered extra spicy. Mine tasted more like mild to medium, and the extra spicy wasn't very spicy either. The dish was also on the sweet side. There were pieces of cumin in the sauce, which is usually blended in. The combo special is definitely meant for one person, as mine came with about five pieces of paneer. The rice wasn't traditional basmati rice and was more like sticky rice. The naan was not your traditional naan either. It was on the harder side and seemed to be made with a different type of flour. Honestly, frozen naan tastes better. There was only one couple in the restaurant when we arrived, and two more people came in afterward. Stay Awayyyy!!!!! If you want to put poison in your body, this is the place to do it. I ordered the Chicken 65, and it tasted a 2/10 while being completely overloaded with food coloring. Attached is a picture of my hand after I washed it with soap following the meal--it literally looks like I washed my hands in red paint. The chicken was drenched in red dye. Trust me, you can feel it in your stomach afterward by how bloated and upset it makes you feel. As for the butter chicken, you can definitely tell the gravy came from a frozen package, and you can actually taste the plastic. I would definitely suggest staying away from this place. read more

Im clearly going against the grain here but I had an excellent experience at Tabla. I came with two hours to chill out before picking up my mother at the airport while pretty darn exhausted and honestly not expecting too much from the other reviews. Everyone was so fun and chatty with me, my server was excellent and introduced me to the joy of spicy butter chicken, which was all around excellent, and I got to truly relax with a mango lassi while listening to the happy conversations of several big families meeting up for Saturday late dinner. I didn't have anything off the drink menu but the prices were very reasonable compared to the admittedly more elevated food prices. Some prices seemed rather high for me but I ultimately ate my butter chicken over four meals with some rice at home so it was a good enough deal. I would absolutely come again. My only suggestion is to pull the host stand even just an inch further into the walkway to make it clearly visible from the door! read more

We reserved a table for a large Father's Day gathering with high expectations. What we got instead was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had--and I don't say that lightly. Finding an authentic, consistently good North Indian restaurant in the DFW area is already difficult. Sadly, this restaurant has made that search even more necessary. From the glacial pace of the service to the thoroughly underwhelming food, almost every part of the evening was a masterclass in how not to run a restaurant. We began with appetizers, including the chicken tikka and achari chicken, before ordering our entrees. Then we waited. And waited. More than an hour passed before the first entrees arrived. Even then, the food trickled out in random intervals, as though we were expected to share a single dish while waiting another 10 minutes for the next. A family celebration became an exercise in patience. The only thing keeping spirits afloat was the beer while we watched the minutes tick by. When the food finally arrived, it wasn't worth the wait. The butter chicken, in particular, was astonishingly bad. Thin, watery, and completely devoid of the rich, velvety flavor the dish is famous for, calling it "butter chicken" is an insult to one of North India's most iconic dishes. The remaining entrees fared little better. The service was equally disappointing. When we asked our server what dish he had just placed on the table, his response was simply, "I don't know," followed by a shrug before he walked away. That level of indifference perfectly summed up the evening. I will give credit where it's due: the ownership team appeared receptive to feedback. My sincere advice is to take reviews like this seriously. The issues here aren't minor--they're fundamental. Poor execution in both the kitchen and the dining room will inevitably drive customers elsewhere. What should have been a memorable Father's Day celebration became a frustrating and thoroughly disappointing experience. Walked in and there was no one in the restaurant besides us. It stayed that way until we left an hour later. Samosas were OK, a little thick on the outside. All food was served in plastic bowls and the plates were also plastic. Napkins were also paper, not linen. They do not have a full bar. Food was OK although lacking spice even though we ordered it medium spiced. Bit of a language barrier between us and the server. Music was so loud. For staters the service was HORRIBLE, our water cups were taken away and we never got new ones. Had to ask for styrofoam cups to fill up with water ourself with the pitcher. I understand getting busy but we were just being ignored. On top of that butter chicken had come out like SOUP and it took around 3 hours for us to get all of our food! We came as a big party but in no situation should it have taken that long. They would bring us a couple dishes at a time and we were all rationing our food. also side note but $20 for a jack and coke is ridiculous.
