Came here on a Saturday evening for an early dinner with a friend. The ambiance was nice, beautiful tables and decor with outdoor/indoor seating and elegant gold painted, steel plates that give you an authentic experience. That was probably the highest point of the experience. TLDR at the bottom. The service is lackluster, disorganized and chaotic. It makes me very sad knowing how advanced the Indian culture and community is but, that they can't provide decent service. I had already read reviews that the service was not good but, to experience just pure chaos was shocking. I did appreciate the second server that was trying to apologize and be kind and how quickly the food came out but, despite that it overall I would not come back. These were the issues with the service: - we wanted a booth, they wouldn't let us sit where we wanted because of timings and reservations but, we had a reservation. - asked for sugar 3 times from multiple servers, since we didn't have a consistent server and did not get it till after I had to come down hard on them. - because we were waiting for sugar, chai got cold and I asked for a fresh cup of chai for my friend since it was cold because they could not give sugar and I was told they needed to ask the manager... and then I was told that the manager said no... then because I was visibly upset and shocked they brought it out...did the manager suddenly change their mind because I was an unhappy customer? - we were not checked on and we had to get people's attention to get service - other tables around us also seemed unhappy Food: I was really really excited about having some South Indian food. The gobi Manchurian was probably the only thing I enjoyed. We ordered dosa which came out cold and soggy...and then we also ordered a veg Kheema Malabar parantha, something they are known for and we were told it was out of stock. It's 5 pm team, how are we out of stock and you just opened. You are known for this! So we decided to go with the stuffed paneer instead, which at this point was just underwhelming. It was crazy to see how busy this place was and how people just want to eat anything. TLDR: I did not enjoy myself, neither did my friend. We just enjoyed each other's company. I don't blame the staff, I blame management and I will not be coming back or bringing my family here.
They opened the same day as another one across the street which had over an hour wait so we got on line for simply south, and have been so amazed by the food! So much variety in the dishes, so much flavor. It's a must to try out! We've been there numerous times for dine in and take out. The ambiance depends on the time that you go, the first time we sat in the side area away from the main crow so it wasn't too loud. But then the next several times we've gone we couldn't hear each other as the slamming of the dishes as they are turning over tables for new customers. It's so popular that the waiting list is long. They do have an option to put in for a reservation ahead of time now which is more helpful then joining the waitlist when you get there.I would give it 5 stars but I'm taking one away for how loud it's been when we went most recently for a graduation brunch. The food is amazing but if they made it a little less loud, I would go back more often.

I think I was impressed by the flavor of the Manchurian specifically. For main dishes I ordered the garlic naan and matar paneer with rice and I was super excited because that's my favorite home cooked meal, so I left feeling a bit disappointed by the lack of flavor it had. Maybe it was my fault for ordering it in mild, but it was under salted and I wish it had more depth and creaminess to the texture and that the paneer weren't cut up so small (that's just my personal preference however). The garlic naan was exquisite however, very buttery and flaky. Additionally the service could have been better; it was a weeknight and we were barely finishing up our meal and getting to go boxes before the host asked us to leave for the next guests they had waiting despite the fact that they had many empty tables around. I felt rushed and I don't think customers should ever be asked to leave after barely an hour unless there's a specifically stated time limit on your reservation. Overall I'm glad I got to try this place out.
Came in on a Sunday to enjoy a family birthday dinner, knowing the weekends get busy we made a reservation and were seated timely. The restaurant is clean and well laid out. Food is delish! Their puri and dosas are plentiful and the Chinese bhel was a favorite. Take advantage of the weekend Thali special, you get to choose between North and South Indian, we went with South and it did not disappoint. Now to why this was rated a 3. I will gladly come back to this location if service/ communication is improved. For a table of six our water jug was out of water at the start and never refilled, when we brought it to the attention of a server that brought one of our items, it was never addressed (main server was MIA entirely). Our main server had little to knowledge of menu items and navigating/ suggesting through the book of a menu. They were extremely absent and our biryani order arrived long after we were done eating. I was really looking forward to trying it. Next, it's likely the space/ construction but it gets VERY loud, all noise is amplified and our server being soft-spoken made it difficult to hear and understand. They repeated our order upon leaving so having the biryani arrive long after our huge meal calls for needed communication on preparation/ cook times. Lastly, not even half of our dishes fit on the table (5 items total) and their plates are enormous. I recommend a large table when you visit!
We visited Simply South in Irving for my birthday, and it was such a great experience! The food tasted incredibly authentic. You could tell it was the real deal just by how packed it was with Indian families. We started with the vadas as an appetizer (crispy and delicious), and for our mains: my dad ordered the giant dosa, my mom had the pongal, and I went with the thali , all flavorful and satisfying. We also tried the rasmalai cake for dessert, which was unique and really tasty! The ambiance was warm and welcoming, with plenty of parking, and I appreciated that the entire menu is vegetarian with tons of options to choose from. I'd definitely go back again, such a solid spot for South Indian food!
After my third attempt, I finally managed to get a reservation without a long wait! As usual, the place was packed and super busy. We ordered the Special Benne Masala Dosa and the 3-in-1 Uttapam. One of the best places to dine if one is a vegetarian and wants to have south Indian food. Great taste, very authentic flavors. Filter coffee on point. Their Jackfruit Biryani is better than any non veg biryani any day. They also serve north Indian dishes but in those flavors are not authentic, taste is not bad but it is also not very good. Desert is their weak point on menu. comparing the variety of options they are offering in appetizers, main course desert selection is very limited. Service is great. Ambiance is very nice, well decorated.

"I recently visited this restaurant and was thoroughly impressed by the authentic flavors and warm hospitality. We started with the cauliflower manchurian, rava Masala Dosa and Benne dosa which was perfectly crisp on the outside with a delicious, well-spiced potato filling. The Sambar had just the right balance of tanginess and heat, and the coconut chutney felt incredibly fresh. The Benne dosa were so so good. Must try. read more
If you're craving top-tier South Indian, this spot is a must... just be ready for a crowd on weekends. The **dosas** are consistently perfect: thin, crispy, and served with excellent, vibrant chutneys. The real highlight, though, is the **filter coffee**. It's arguably the best in the area--piping hot, perfectly frothed, and the ideal end to the meal. Simply South offers a wide variety of South Indian vegetarian specialties that are rarely found at typical Indian restaurants. We especially enjoyed the malabar parotta with kheema masala, which was flaky and generously portioned. The pongal, vada, and idli combo was also a great way to sample multiple dishes and came with a flight of house chutneys. Despite how busy the restaurant was when we arrived, we were seated after a short wait. Service was quick and efficient, though not especially friendly. There is plenty of parking right outside. read more

Have to make a reservation to come here, it is that busy. We were expecting the traffic and ambience is loud with troves of people visiting this place otherwise it's a long wait. My wife and I had come here for our anniversary and ordered the 3 idli, veg corn soup and 72mm dosa. It was super cold in Irving this past weekend. Food was delivered to our table within minutes of ordering. The overall service gets a 3/5 as our server came off a bit rude, she slammed the payment kiosk when asking for payment. The 72mm dosa was also a bit oily for a paper dosa and consistency was thick around the middle. For anyone wanting to try the special 72mm dosa, it does not have any stuffing in it. read more
Authentic Indian food with endless options! Delicious, but service could be better. Ambiance & Service: Spacious, nicely renovated, and very busy--reservations recommended! Service was inattentive; we had to flag waiters down. Food arrived too quickly, with no pacing between courses. Food: - Apps: Veg Manchurian, Gobi Manchurian, Crispy Corn--all flavorful and perfectly spiced. Highly recommend! - Main: Ravva Masala Dosa--crispy, with a tasty potato filling. Sambar was delicious but could've been a larger portion since the dosa is so big. The 6 chutneys on the side were fantastic. I visited Simply South twice during my Dallas trip, mainly because it was listed in the New York Times' 50 Best Restaurants in the U.S. With such recognition, I was curious to see what made it stand out. On my first visit, I tried the following: 1.Weekday Lunch Thali - Plenty of variety; some of the curries were just okay, but a few stood out as really flavorful and well-balanced. I do wish they had better dessert options. Overall, it was good and filling. 2.Thatte Idli - The idlis were soft and fluffy, while the chutneys had a rich and traditional taste. This dish was beyond my expectations, and I'd definitely recommend trying it. 3.Paneer Kaju Pulao - This was a bit too sweet/creamy for my liking. If you're looking for a more flavorful and spicy dish, then this could be a pass. 4.Filter Coffee - Perfectly strong and authentic South Indian style. Another highlight for me. On the second visit, I tried: 1.Benne Dosa - The dosas were good but had more butter than I would've preferred. So if you love butter-heavy dosas, you'll probably enjoy it more than I did. 2.Crispy Corn - Absolutely amazing and spot on. The corn was perfectly crispy and well-seasoned. Again, highly recommend this. 3.Veg Fried Rice & Veg Manchuria - Both were super oily, and the fried rice, in particular, felt overly greasy, making it hard to finish. The Manchuria was also below average. Definitely not something I'd order again. Overall the restaurant is extremely busy, and both times, I had to wait 15-20 minutes even after putting my name on the waitlist. The servers are clearly overwhelmed, sometimes forgetting requests and disappearing for long stretches. It's understandable given how packed the place is, but it does affect the experience. The food itself is a mixed bag in my opinion. Since they have such a huge menu, I'm open to trying more, but I'd probably stick to the safer options. If you go, be ready for long waits, a noisy atmosphere, and some hits and misses with the food. read more
Went here for a dinner on a Friday night! We called ahead at 5:30 and asked to be put on the waitlist for 6:30. We were able to get a table right away! I got the south indian thali and it was delicious! The chutneys are so well presented and deliciously spicy. Very comparable to South Indian food you would find in India. Had this place in my list to check it out ever since The NY Times list. The place had me in mixed feelings. The ambiance excellent, they done a good job to make the place look nice, The service is sub par to none, servers are not trained nor don't know what they are doing and out right rude to customers. Food is hit or miss, they do have some items that are 10/10 and other items below 5. Honestly all the items we choose based on the review was nice and all the items our server suggested was garbage. Crispy corn 10/10 Benne Masala Dhosha - don't even bother ordering this one. Get they regular masala dhosha Panneer kuthu porotta 4/10. Not good Gobi munhurian 10/10. read more
Rude and unprofessional useless waiters! Did not pour water or refill water for us. Didn't set our plates. Left it on the side for us to pour water and get our own plates. Waved at her to order more food and she saw and went to clean up tables and ignored us for another five minutes before coming to us. Crispy corn- 10/10 unique and tasteful. Gobi manchurian- nothing over the top but decent and good. Tower of Chutneys- 10/10 hands down the best Benne masala dosa- apparently their specialty is unique but I wouldn't get it again. Too thick batter. I prefer the thin masala dosas. Kuthu paneer Porotta-5/10 meh Coffee- good filter coffee Bathroom- dirty bathrooms Vibe- you gotta give this place for the decor and fancy chairs and nice cutlery. Very rare for a nice setting Indian restaurant but the service was so horrible that I wouldn't recommend it! Ps. See our useless waiter with half their hair sticking out of the hair net smh. We were here on new years day with my family. I have been here before with my colleagues and wanted my family to try it. We couldn't get a reservation so we walked in early. We were seated on the side, this side of restaurant looks like and extension and doesn't much ambiance. We ordered Nutella Dosa, Puri with aloo masala for kids. Jackfruit Biryani, Paratha with Kheema Masala and Beene Dosa Plain. Nutella dosa had way too much nutella, it was way too much off putting. My daughter wouldn't finish it and we informed them and they have done nothing about it. Benne, Paratha with Kheema Masala and Jackfruit Biryani were amazing. We couldn't finish it and got it home. read more
Simply South has been HYPEDDD all over social media, and every time we've driven by, there's been a massive line out the door and hour-long waits. So I figured it was only right to make a reservation way in advance and finally see what the hype was about. It's a pure vegetarian South Indian restaurant, which made it perfect for Great Lent. Okay, honest thoughts: I thought the food was good... but slightly overhyped sorry! FOOD: * Weekend Bhojanam Thali (Me): 7/10 - Great variety, generous portions, and solid flavor overall, but a few items were just mid. * Masala Dosa (Mama): 5/10 - She's had better. Not a fan of this one. * Malabar Parotta with Veg Kurma (Sis): 7/10 - She liked the porotta, but said the curry was just okay. * Malabar Parotta with Veg Kheema Masala (Hubby): 8/10 - My man loves porotta and genuinely thought his dish had meat He said he'd come back just for this one. We liked his! DRINK: * Mango Falooda (Mama): 5/10 - Not enough semiya and the ice cream was v melted. * Rose Mango Lassi (Sis): 7/10 - Good but could've used more rose flavor. OVERALL: The space is aesthetic and lively--it's packed but not uncomfortably loud or cramped. The floors could've been a bit cleaner, but the rest of the restaurant looked clean. Service was great, and I'm glad we made a reservation because we got seated right away! The menu is huge, and we didn't get to try everything, so I'm sure there are gems we missed. But based on what we had, I'd say it's definitely worth a try--but maybe not wait-in-line-for-an-hour worth of hype. read more

Simply South is the best vegetarian dosa restaurant we have in DFW. They hands down beat in quality and service. The food is very authentic and delicious, reminds me of crispy dosas from Bangalore. Benne dosa is as authentic as it gets and you have to try it when you visit them. The pepper Rasam is very similar to what my mom makes at home simply amazing. The Thali is good but nothing to die for. It's unlimited so if you want to try different things it's a good option. They also sent pebble or goti soda which is found in rural Indian communities or cities, definitely a must try. You cannot go wrong with anything you try here. The place gets very busy so make sure you come when they first open to avoid long delays and wait times. The service is fast and reliable. Ambiance is good but the place gets very crowded and noisy so please be mindful this is not a fancy restaurant it's a casual eatery that caters to all. read more
We all had a pleasant experience recently at Simply South. The decor is very pretty and the scent of incense is abundant when you enter. I liked it but a friend in our party absolutely hated it. Lots of employees throughout the restaurant. The person taking our order was patient and answered questions graciously. We started with the chilli baby corn appetizer. I was a little confused since it was corn kernels and not actual baby corn. It was tasty but did have some very burnt pieces in it. For some reason, the app and some of the main dishes were delivered at the same time. It took around 15 minutes for the rest of the entrees to arrive. I ordered the paneer tikka biryani. The amount was very abundant and I took the rest with me. It was super hot and delicious! I would definitely order this again. Even with all of the employees there, our waitress never checked on us. I believe it was a manager who did stop by and asked if we liked the food. read more

This is one of the restaurants I come to once and cannot wait to come back again! Pros: + Huge variety of South Indian, Indochinese, and a few North Indian dishes + Huge portions - we ordered a biryani and one order was probably enough for 3-4 meals + Friendly staff + Easy parking + Great Service + Gorgeous interior Cons: - Food takes a little while to come out, but it's so amazing Just an FYI, this place makes food super spicy. So, great if you like spicy food. But, seriously, I order a level 4/5 spice at most places. I had to get a 1/5 spice here (I described it as mild, please make it for a baby). If you are in Dallas and looking for some authentic South Indian food then this place is a must visit. Here you will get food items from all the south India state. This place is recognised by the New York Times in Top 50 restaurants of USA. It's a pure vegetarian restaurant with pocket friendly menu and very hygienic. Ambience is gives the welcoming and charming vibe. Menu is divided into 6 parts - arambham, amogham, ruchikaram, ascharyam, adbhutam and Amrutham. So must visit this place to try out the tasty and flavourful dishes of south in Texas. read more

This is my go-to spot for dosa! The ambiance is warm and inviting, and the moment you step inside, it truly feels like you've been transported to India. I always order the crispy corn and the achari paneer dosa--I haven't found a dosa like this anywhere else, and it never disappoints. The variety of chutneys they serve is a great touch, but I do wish the staff would take a moment to explain which is which, as some look similar and I've had to ask every time. It's a very popular spot, so there's usually a wait--I'd recommend going early to beat the rush. Because of how busy it gets, service can be a bit stretched. My husband and I had an amazing experience at Simply South and fully satisfied after our meal. Each and every dish we tried was fantastic! very authentic, fresh, high quality and tastes exactly or even better than restaurants back home. The chef's must be extremely talented and skilled to deliver such tasty food. Guntur button idly: soft, melting button idly's topped generously with yummy podi and loads of ghee. Pullaattu : Never in my life have I imagined that I will eat super authentic pulla attu/ majjiga attu that too in US. this is different to what my mom makes which i absolutely love, its thicker like dibba rotti but with pulla taste from majjiga mixed in batter. kudos!! Nellore Neyyi Karam dosa: Pretty good, loved the karam spread. wish there is masala filling. I've had similar dosa's at other places too but this is amazing. Mango falooda: Literally out of the world! Do yourself a favor and order this brand new drink introduced in the menu. Its all the goodness of falooda but even better mango ice cream and mango infused drink. Hubby and I could not stop from downing this item. Filter Kaapi : My chennai born husband was over the moon after drinking yummy, authentic, fresh and refreshing filter coffee. Poori with veg kheema (vegan): Never have I tasted a veg curry sooo packed with flavor aroma and the chewiness of fake meat. The best. Ohh not to forget the unique and wide variety of chutneys they served in a tower. So so yummy, each chutney tasted fantastic and i was so confused on which i like better so ended up eating them all. oh and the sambar was omg. Can down the entire bowl in seconds. I won't even try to remember all the things we ordered--to be quite honest, none of us had really had purely southern Indian food before and we didn't know what we were ordering anyways, so we just picked things that had little symbols next to them (that the restaurant indicated were favorites). And none of us are vegetarian, but we all fully enjoyed this purely vegetarian meal, and we were all so unbelievably stuffed by the end of it too! Top highlights for me were the garlic Naan, the saag paneer, and the panipuri. They do a phenomenal job with textures and flavors it's mindblwoingly good! And the restaurant is huge with ample seating, but they can get incredibly busy so either come early (early for dinner on this Friday night we went was like 6pm) or get ready to wait! We came here on a Wednesday night, and it was packed like a weekend, so we knew it had to be good! First off, the chutney tower--amazing! Place is worth trying out just for this! The menu had so many unique items, so we went for the ones that sounded the most interesting. We started with the Ulavacharu Idly. The idly was super soft, with amazing tamarind and tomato flavors. Then, we had the Malabar Parotta with Veg Kurma. The parotta was crispy on the outside, soft inside, and the kurma was just the right amount of savory. We also tried the Davangere Benne and Masala Dosa special, but honestly, you could skip this one. First dosa was basically an Uthappam loaded with butter. The second was the same but with potato masala inside. Overall, we loved the place and will definitely come back! Next time, though, we might stick to the classics. read more
