Perusing Yelp to help me find a new Indian joint to try while in town I was torn between a couple of locations and ended up landing on Foodistaan as they offered online ordering through UberEats with a pick-up option so I was in. So far as ordering: I ended up going outside of my usual options and tried Paneer Methi Chaman, Plain Paratha, and Manchurian Gobi. The app estimated that my order would be ready around 6:45p. I departed the hotel around that time and arrived shortly thereafter. Upon entering and explaining to the folks at the counter I had placed an Order online, they disappeared into the back and after a brief hold, came back and said "they are working on it." I don't hold this against the business but what I will say is I am very glad I read some of the reviews prior to ordering as they had tapered my expectations and much of what others have shared was quite accurate in my experience. After about 10ish mins, my order was ready and I departed back to my hotel. The food itself was pretty good. The Methi Chaman was flavorful but not spicy as I had asked; tho it was filled with paneer so that made me quite happy. The Gobi could have been more crispy but it had a great flavor and heat. The Paratha was acceptable but benefited from being eaten with the Methi Chaman. Experience overall was serviceable. Not friendly, not rude, got the job done. Same could be said of the food, it got the job done. Was it outstanding? No, can't say that it was. Do I foresee myself going back? Possibly? But it would not be my first choice. Start to finish the overall experience was okay but I would be remiss if I didn't end my review by saying there are better options in the area with comparable pricing and food that I enjoyed more than Foodistaan. read more

Good food at a good value! In an economy where everything is super expensive, it was nice to find this spot with good meal portions at reasonable prices! This restaurant is casual and decorated nicely. The menu is overwhelmingly large, and at first was rather intimidating but after reading it over it was a bit more simplified than I thought. Basically they have set items that can be made in different variations. Like Manchurian or 65 style but you have the option of gobi, paneer, or even chicken in that particular style. (It was something new and i hadn't seen anything like that before) However you do need to speak to the server and make sure they have the items you're wanting, as a few thing we chose from the menu were not available. We went with a samosa, papdi chaat, chicken 65, and vinaywadi biryani. I had asked for a very mild chaat and to counter the spices that added a boatload of yogurt... and still it was super spicy not the best tasting thing but it was filling. The samosa was good- as a samosa should be. The chicken 65 was good and the biryani was packed with flavor! The coolest part of this experience was the robot service! The restaurant looks sleek and modern on the inside. There is a well lit seating area as well as a separate section with a more dimly lit ambiance depending on what suits you. As of the writing of this review, alcohol is not served at this location, but BYOB is allowed - cork and bottle openers are provided. Crispy corn appetizer comes with roasted peanuts, sprinkled generously with masala seasoning. Delicious. Adhrakwala - translates to having ginger as a prominent ingredient - both the versions with cauliflower and chicken dishes - were great. Spicy, crispy, and not over cooked. Very interesting Indian restaurant where you get the food served to you by robots (rather promptly at that). Wanted to get noodles but the server kept recommending for me to get naan or curry - should have listened since I didn't have capacity to finish the noodles (maybe a Chinese/Indian fusion dish). Their naan (I got their cheese naan) was excellent, as was their chai with a bun and a special cream sauce (saw it advertised on a banner). Tried their masala soda which was slightly salty and an acquired taste, but an interesting experience. Their mango lassi was good however. Cool interior decor with pics of robots and their menu had characters that all had a Goku from DBZ hairstyle for some reason. UPDATE: The ACTUAL Owner of Foodistan, Rishi, contacted us today. It would go against my own integrity if I didn't provide an edit to my original review. We had a long conversation with Rishi, during which, he was very respectful, apologetic, and understanding. He also took ownership of what happened with us last night. Long story short, the person who was acting in charge was not allowed to make such decisions and acted against the Owner's restaurant policies and procedures. After speaking with Rishi, it seems pretty clear that what we experienced did not reflect his values. I can't change the downstream impacts of my original review, but I would do him a disservice if I didn't share his follow-up. ____________________________________________ My husband and I were looking forward to dining at Foodistaan in Irving, expecting to enjoy a pleasant meal. Unfortunately, our visit turned into a nightmare due to blatant harassment and discrimination. Shortly after we were seated and had ordered our food, another "customer" who was seated nearby began recording us without our consent. When we asked this individual if she was recording us and explained that she was making us uncomfortable, she proceeded to lose her mind and her behavior became increasingly aggressive. We asked our server to seat us at a table further away and we were promptly moved to a different table. As our appetizer arrived, we learned that the harasser was actually a relative of the Owner and was coming to the restaurant every night. A few minutes later, the owner sent a visibly distressed server to our table to ask us to leave. To our shock, instead of addressing the behavior of the harasser, the Owner chose to appease her relative. The server, who seemed genuinely upset by the situation, repeatedly apologized, expressing that she personally had no issue with us being Muslim customers and felt terrible about asking us to leave. This incident left us feeling humiliated and discriminated against. No one should ever be treated this way, especially in a place where they come to enjoy a meal. The Owner's decision to side with a harasser and force paying customers out solely based on their religion is not only unethical but also illegal. And furthermore, it was a cowardly act to send a server to do her dirty work. I strongly advise anyone considering dining at Foodistaan to rethink their decision. Discrimination and harassment should have no place in any establishment, and businesses that condone such behavior should be held accountable. Also a side note, there were implications that the food may not be "Zabiha Halal" as listed on their menu. This furthered our discomfort and raises serious concerns about the restaurant's integrity and honesty regarding its food offerings. Eat here at your own risk... we didn't get to eat our meal, so I have no idea how it tastes. But I have a feeling it reeks of Islamophobia. read more

My wife and I were looking for some good Indian food in the Irving area for dinner with a friend. He suggested Foodistaan and it did not disappoint. We had butter chicken, chicken biryani, and tadka dal with garlic naan. All three dishes had amazing flavor although the butter chicken was a bit spicy for my wife's taste. The naan was great as well and portions were good. We also enjoyed the nice upscale decor and atmosphere. Definitely on our list of favorite Indian restaurants in the metroplex! read more

I was craving okra masala - Sadly they were out. I ordered the aloo gobi instead with chapatis and chicken adrakhwala. For me it was a nice comforting meal away from home. I would have the chapatis more like phulkas so it looks fresher but other than that it was great. Certainly oily but I ate a small portion and have plenty left overs. Great friendly service . We were very excited to try out a new Indian restaurant in Irving. Especially based on the Google reviews. But boy was it a disappointing experience. 1. They ignored us after sitting us at a table and didn't even bother asking whether we wanted water. When we went and requested water, the glasses weren't clean and had to be exchanged. 2. The Chicken 555 seemed oily, not awful but far from impressive. 3. They were out of Idli Vada, which is odd. The dosa was ok but initially we got no sambhar, when we got the sambhar it was ice cold; after they heated the sambhar we realized it was spoilt. 4. The Chicken Haryali Kabab was pretty good but that alone couldn't compensate for our terrible experience. There are many other well established Indian restaurants in Irving, I suggest you try those out before this place. Would never come back here nor recommend this place despite its convenience/location. Customer service is nonexistent, food is largely below par and the hygiene is questionable. read more

I was in town for a seminar and this place was just across the street so I decided to try it. It had so many good reviews on Google so I was wondering why the reviews were mixed on Yelp. When I walked in, I noticed that the place was definitely nice, clean, and new. I came in around 1pm and asked for a table. The guy helping me asked if I wanted Takeout and I told him I wanted a table for one person. He had me sit at the front and order my food (I'm assuming he still thought I wanted takeout.) They have a QR code for their menu, but it didn't work the first time I scanned it. The worker that was originally there left and another one came. I asked the second worker if I could scan the menu again. Once I was ready to order, I also mentioned I wanted to eat here and questioned if take out is better since I had to be back at my seminar in less than an hour. He (the second worker) assured me I would have enough time to eat and brought me to a table. I waited over 30 minutes for my butter chicken to come out. I asked for the check and a box when the food came out and ate within 10 minutes. The food is good, but nothing special. It was also $15 for the entree. The customer service seems to be generally good- maybe the first worker I encountered was new. However, food should not take 30+ min to come out. The family I was sitting across from was also starting to get restless waiting for their entrees and keep in mind, the restaurant wasn't busy at all. There were plenty of empty chairs & tables. The sad case of chicken saag We decided to visit foodistaan. My mom ... god bless her... is a mild/no heat type of gal. As for me I can handle my heat... or so i thought. We looked through the extensive menu of color coded curry with spice descriptions and heat labels (1 pepper to 3 pepper). My mom finally settled on a spinach curry... the Chicken Saag 1 pepper. She was excited amd happy with her choice. I tried the goat curry (Rara Gosht) with a whooping 3 pepper. We also got the chicken pakoda (indian version of crispy chicken bites) and garlic naan. The wait I must say was horrendous. We ordered togo and decided to wait at the restaurant. We waited almost an hour. When we finally got out order and headed home it 1045pm. The smell of fresh naan and indian spice filled our little hotel room. We were so hungry and its so late to eat. My mom filled her plate with garlic naan, rice, chicken saag and chicken pakoda as she told stories of her cowoker making naan from scratch. She took a bite and grimaced with pain. This is so spicy she yelped. I looked at her incredulously. How can a saag be spicy??? I tried her dish and my stomach recoiled. This is no ordinary 1 pepper chicken saag. I tried my 3 pepper rara gosht and sat in awed how my spice was nothing but pleasant. How can that spinach curry beat my goat curry on a heat test!!!! Will I come back again... most likely not. When I opened my wallet any large bills that I had were gone I stated money was missing for my wallet her answer was no one went into your purse. I looked a 2nd time just to be sure pulled ouy my wallet and a brand new phone out of my purse well that was odd odd because I had my phone in my pocket and showed it to her I asked her who's phone was this she said it was the managers so clearly he had been in my purse. The owner came out and said that he would take care of the missing money and then told me I just had to wait a few mins then it just another 10 min. After 20 about mins I called the sheriff & filed a police report. I gave the officer the the brand new phone that was left in my purse the owner said the needed that phone back the officer gave them the oppertunity to resolve the issue or the phone would simply be processed into evidence. The owner says I need the sim card out if that pone then the officer explaind the sim card stays with the phone so either return the missing money or get the person that owns the phone to return the money or the it leaves with him. Moral to this story is the only person out anything is me, but the person that took the money certianly can spend anyway they wish but my money is that easy some of money just got to spent on another Iphone so ya no money ahead there buddy. Karma tends to serve you what you deserve...and now that replacemt phone will be more then what was taken... and well I can live with that. So Mr. Manger at Foodstaan in Irving Texas do enjoy that new phone if you want the phone you left in my purse please contact the Irving TX ploice deptment they have your phone. I went there on a Sunday afternoon. The place Inside looks like needs to be put together. It took literally 30 minutes for someone to get our order. All the other tables after us got their food way before. The food was decent but nothing to go back for. I did not think this place was the cleanest either. If you know what authentic food taste back home, then this the place, every time when I try appetizers, always surprised with flavor, whoever the chef is is brilliant.
