    Hyd Goat Curry
    Jj R.

What I had for dinner, Hyderabadi Goat Curry, also known as Hyderabadi Mutton Curry, originates from Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, India. It is part of the rich Hyderabadi cuisine, which has strong influences from Mughlai, Turkish, and Persian cooking due to the Nizams of Hyderabad who ruled the region. Key Features of Hyderabadi Goat Curry: 1. Spices & Aromatics: * Uses a mix of whole and ground spices like cloves, cinnamon, black cardamom, bay leaves, and garam masala. * Green chilies and red chili powder add heat. * Fried onions (birista) give it a rich, slightly sweet depth. 2. Cooking Style: * Traditionally slow-cooked for deep flavor development. * Uses yogurt or tomatoes for a thick, rich gravy. * Often prepared using the Dum cooking method (sealed pot slow-cooking). 3. Use of Goat Meat: * Goat meat (mutton in Indian terminology) is a staple in Hyderabad. * Tender meat, cooked until falling off the bone. 4. Accompaniments: * Typically served with Hyderabadi Bagara Rice, Naan, or Roti. * Goes well with rumali roti or parathas. 5. Variations: * Hyderabadi Mutton Shorba (thinner, spicier version with more broth). * Hyderabadi Mutton Dalcha (cooked with lentils for a unique flavor). Cultural Significance: * A staple dish in royal feasts, weddings, and festivals. * Integral to the Deccan Muslim cuisine, reflecting Hyderabad's culinary Review: Café India - A Culinary Passage to the Subcontinent Tucked away in an unassuming corner of the city, Café India promises an authentic Indian dining experience. But does it deliver a taste of the subcontinent, or is it just another generic curry house cashing in on exotic flavors? I went in hungry for answers--and, of course, great food. Ambiance & First Impressions - 7.5/10 The restaurant greets you with a warm, subtly spiced aroma that immediately sets the tone. The décor is a delicate balance of modern minimalism and traditional Indian motifs--ornate brass lanterns, carved wooden panels, and a color palette that echoes the vibrancy of India without overwhelming the senses. The seating is comfortable, though the space can feel slightly cramped during peak hours. Service - 8/10 From the moment I stepped in, the staff exuded a sense of hospitality that felt neither forced nor indifferent. The servers were knowledgeable, suggesting dishes with an understanding of both traditional preferences and modern palates. While service was mostly prompt, there was a noticeable lag when the restaurant began filling up. Food - 9/10 Now, onto the heart of the experience--the food. Café India's menu is an ode to regional Indian flavors, with dishes spanning North and South India. Here's how some of their highlights fared: * Hyderabadi Goat Curry - (5/5) The undisputed star of the meal. The slow-cooked goat was tender, absorbing the rich medley of spices in a velvety, fragrant gravy. Each spoonful carried layers of smoky heat, warmth from garam masala, and an undercurrent of tanginess--likely from a touch of yogurt. A near-perfect execution. * Chicken Tikka Masala - (4/5) A crowd-pleaser, though slightly predictable. The chicken was well-marinated and charred beautifully, but the sauce leaned on the sweeter side, which some might find overpowering. * Garlic Naan - (5/5) Light, fluffy, and charred just right, with a garlicky punch that made it the perfect vehicle for scooping up the curry. * Dal Tadka - (4/5) Comforting and wholesome, though it could have used a bolder tempering (tadka) to elevate the dish's smokiness. * Mango Lassi - (5/5) A refreshing, creamy counterpoint to the spice-laden meal. Balanced in sweetness, with a natural mango richness that avoided the artificial syrupy trap. Overall Verdict - 8.5/10 Café India doesn't just serve food; it tells a story--one of spices, tradition, and comfort. While a few minor missteps exist (service speed and slight sweetness in some dishes), the flavors largely stay true to their roots. If you're looking for an Indian restaurant that respects authenticity while catering to a broad audience, Café India is a worthy visit. Would I return? Absolutely--for another round of that Hyderabadi Goat Curry and naan alone.

    Paneer Tikka Masala

My friend took me to Cafe India as we both had a craving for Indian food. We were not disappointed! I ordered the Paneer Tikka Masala and absolutely loved it. It was one of the best tikka masala curries I've ever had! I also really enjoyed my butter naan. We received great service and the restaurant itself was welcoming!

We decided to swing by today for lunch. Biryani and butter chicken. Both are fantastic!

    Delicious tandoori chicken!

Super lucky to have Cafe India here -- delicious Indian food right next to Kroger in Flower Mound! Menu has plenty of options and they customize to your spice level preference. We absolutely loved the Garlic naan and Tandoori chicken -- also the sides of mint chutney and yogurt sauces were light and fresh with bright flavors. Ask for the Butter Chicken -- super tasty! We will be back to try other items -- of note: pretty blues and creams interior -- modern clean look and can accommodate big groups -- perfect for family gatherings and special date nights too. They have a nice take away counter at front that offers extra bite size snacks and baked goods -- everything hand made and super tempting -- perfect to bring home for the kids! Service was very warm and friendly, too -- we will be back -- I am certain this will be our weekly outing!

I tried the meat sweats, and it was a great trio of chicken (two ways) and lamb. To me it was also the easiest to understand as this place gets into different ideas such as making burritos out of traditional Indian plates I did not try a mixed style, nor did my two friends that were with me. For the adventurous, I am sure there is something that is worth trying, but for those who just like a nice plate of Indian food, this also did fine Like any other place, you can scale up or scale down the heat, and I asked for medium level, which was fine.... And then some spices on the side in case I wanted to rev it up on any particular bite. I'd say the food comes out within 10 minutes or so and I felt was good. At a $19 price tag I would say it's not a bad value since you get more than enough to take as leftovers so possibly two meals for one. Punjabi chicken and cauliflower was solid also...though at $13 a little high for appetizer. Overall, I didn't feel adventurous this particular day. However, if you do like mixing food styles and ideas, then this would definitely be a place to try it.

My "quick search" for local Indian food spat out Delhi6 Indian Kitchen & Bar as the top choice. Thirty minutes and 14 miles of Highland Village pavement later, I checked Google Maps only to find there was an Indian spot one mile from my location. At that point, I wasn't just hungry; I was "Yelp-betrayed" hungry. Walking into Delhi6 is a bit of a trip. I expected a standard restaurant; I got a lounge that felt like I should have traded my sneakers for a velvet blazer. It was dim, moody, and featured tabletop lamps that made me feel like I was about to negotiate a high-stakes merger--or at least a very serious order of Garlic Naan. I was greeted by Rohi, a man so well-dressed he made the rest of the room look under-rendered. He introduced himself as the acting manager and dropped a line so bold I almost choked on my own anticipation: "This is the best Indian restaurant in all of Texas." Sir, those are "fightin' words" in a state that takes its spices as seriously as its brisket. My expectations didn't just rise; they hit the ceiling. To see if Rohi was a prophet or just a very stylish salesman, I applied my standard Indian Food Litmus Test. No fancy bells and whistles--just the classics. Their menu, by the way, is a literal tome. It's as thick as the Cheesecake Factory menu, but thankfully with fewer pictures of Glazed Salmon and more promises of cumin-induced euphoria. The Tandoori Chicken was smokey, tender, redder than a fire engine. It had that perfect "kissed by the flames" char and a deep, smoky soul. The Chicken Tikka Masala balanced creaminess and spice. It was sweet, savory, and vibrating with bright spices. The chicken was so tender it practically dissolved on impact. The Paratha was dry and a bit tough--the one "C" on an otherwise straight-A report card. Despite the paratha being more "cardboard" than "cloud-like," the rest of the meal was a revelation. I found myself nodding along to Rohi's bold claims with every bite of that Tikka Masala. The flavors weren't just good; they were "I'm glad I drove 14 miles for this" good. It's right up there with the heavy hitters like Taj Mahal and Café Maharani. If I ever find myself in Highland Village again--or if Yelp decides to trick me into a cross-state road trip--I'm stopping back at Delhi6. Thank you, Yelp, for being terrible at math but excellent at finding me a five-star "mistake."
