Kriz Farm is a working horse farm and ice cream parlor that opened in Bethany, Connecticut in the…read morelate 1950s. It was founded by Czechoslovakian immigrant brothers Johnny and Joseph A. "U.J." Kriz. The brothers were trained farriers (craftsmen who shoe horses) as well as blacksmiths. They were legends in the farrier world and shoed the Budweiser Clydesdales as well as Japanese Emperor Hirohito's white Arabian stallion during World War II. Johnny passed away in 1996 and U.J. followed him in 2010. Today the farm is run by Johnny's son Tim. The Kriz family opened an ice cream shop on the farm in July 2021 (that carries ice cream from Gifford's in Maine as well as Buck's in Milford) to help sustain the farm business. Horse-drawn wagon rides are operated from the Halloween to Christmas season. My family and I recently visited Kriz Farm for the first time. The place was all decorated for Christmas with plenty of fresh cut trees for sale. There was a large fire pit area for customers to sit at and keep warm as well as a reproduction of Santa's sleigh for photo opportunities. We mainly visited the farm because we heard that they are one of the last places in the state to offer real horse-drawn wagon rides in an era where everyone else is now using tractors. We had a nice ride around the property with two horses named Rocky and Luke. There's a large pile of horseshoes that they had decorated to look like a horseshoe Christmas tree. Afterwards we headed to the ice cream parlor and ordered a small cup with a scoop of "Smoreo" and a scoop of "Peppermint Stick" as well as a delicious "Eggnog Milkshake" that was garnished with a Gingerbread Man Mug Hanger. The farm also had several clever handmade crafts for sale that would make great Christmas gifts, including some fancy charcuterie boards. We had a really nice experience at Kriz Farm and would definitely return!

The heart of Haven is their incredible spice blend. They don't just offer "hot"--they offer a…read moreprecision-engineered scale of heat that caters to everyone: * The Mild Side: If you're spice-averse, their "Country" (no heat) or "Mild" levels let the quality of the chicken shine through without the burn. * The Extreme: For the thrill-seekers, the "Haven" level is truly "out of this world." It's a deep, dark red dusting of spices that delivers an intense, lingering heat that will test even the most seasoned chili-heads. Whether you want a quick snack or a full feast, they've mastered every vessel for their crispy, juicy chicken: * The Sandwich: A massive, hefty breast on a potato bun that is widely considered one of the best in New England. * The Wraps & Tenders: Perfectly fried and consistently juicy. * The Sliders: The perfect "middle ground" if you want to mix and match different spice levels in one sitting. The "Must-Have" Sides A hot chicken joint is only as good as its sides, and Haven's are legendary: * Homemade Mac & Cheese: This isn't an afterthought. It's rich, creamy, and features a perfect cheese-to-pasta ratio that acts as the ultimate cooling agent for your palate. * Banana Pudding: This is the "secret weapon" of the menu. It's authentic, layered with fresh bananas and Nilla wafers, and topped with light whipped cream. Many regulars consider it a "side" rather than a dessert because it's the only thing that can truly put out the fire of the higher spice levels! Haven Hot Chicken is a masterclass in balance. Between the crunch of the breading, the customizable heat, and the soul-warming sides, it's a 10/10 experience for any fried chicken lover.

He was very helpful with trying to figure out combos to get the most out of my money. The items are very pricey hence why I don't eat here often. A single chicken sandwich is almost $15 with a combo being a lil over $18. The manager where I usually hooks me up with lots of Rob sauce. At this location I just purchased a large which was $4. We had a great conversation while I waited. What a nice young man. My food came out in less than 10 minutes and it was nice and hot. I witnessed someone purchasing 2 large box orders and their's came out fast as well. This was my 1st time getting the Wrap Snack and a side of coleslaw. I tried medium- Hotter Than You Think, it wasnt super spicy. The wraps came with 2, so I saved one for dinner. The one I ate was yummy, though I wish it had more chicken. My last bites were all tortilla. The chicken was crispy and the cheese really paired well with it. The coleslaw was well seasoned, not sweet and had good size pieces of veggies. You could see the onions and celery. I tasted all the layers of love. My son The Sandwich Combo per usual. He always gets the same thing. My only complaint is the seating was uncomfortable. If you could afford it, I highly recommend you check them out lol.
