A great example of an ice cream shop not so far away just off Rt 67. Have been wanting to get there for some time and glad it finally happened. Plenty of selections to choose from. Great portions, many GF, super delicious and a friendly staff. If you want a nice little quiet place to sit, watch some horses grazing and enjoy a cup delicious ice cream this is the place to go. No road noise from cars and trucks wizzing by at 50 miles an hour.... Think about that for a minute. Well worth the drive. read more

Kriz Farm Ice Cream - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Bethany, Connecticut

Top shelf. Staff is wonderful. Chocolate Malteds are the best. You'll never regret a trip to Kriz!

You drive in to horses in the distance. It's in a peaceful location. The service was friendly and the ice cream was delicious. It's a hidden gem of Bethany. Good amount of seating outdoors only. The only thing that was not great was the bathroom situation. They only have access to a porta potty. read more

Kriz Farm Ice Cream - Field next to the picnic tables and chairs. - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Bethany, Connecticut

Kriz Farm is a working horse farm and ice cream parlor that opened in Bethany, Connecticut in the late 1950s. It was founded by Czechoslovakian immigrant brothers Johnny and Joseph A. "U.J." Kriz. The brothers were trained farriers (craftsmen who shoe horses) as well as blacksmiths. They were legends in the farrier world and shoed the Budweiser Clydesdales as well as Japanese Emperor Hirohito's white Arabian stallion during World War II. Johnny passed away in 1996 and U.J. followed him in 2010. Today the farm is run by Johnny's son Tim. The Kriz family opened an ice cream shop on the farm in July 2021 (that carries ice cream from Gifford's in Maine as well as Buck's in Milford) to help sustain the farm business. Horse-drawn wagon rides are operated from the Halloween to Christmas season. My family and I recently visited Kriz Farm for the first time. The place was all decorated for Christmas with plenty of fresh cut trees for sale. There was a large fire pit area for customers to sit at and keep warm as well as a reproduction of Santa's sleigh for photo opportunities. We mainly visited the farm because we heard that they are one of the last places in the state to offer real horse-drawn wagon rides in an era where everyone else is now using tractors. We had a nice ride around the property with two horses named Rocky and Luke. There's a large pile of horseshoes that they had decorated to look like a horseshoe Christmas tree. Afterwards we headed to the ice cream parlor and ordered a small cup with a scoop of "Smoreo" and a scoop of "Peppermint Stick" as well as a delicious "Eggnog Milkshake" that was garnished with a Gingerbread Man Mug Hanger. The farm also had several clever handmade crafts for sale that would make great Christmas gifts, including some fancy charcuterie boards. We had a really nice experience at Kriz Farm and would definitely return! read more

i love it here great ice cream some of the best flavors ive ever had and super nice area right near wildlife and good seating

A bit out of the way from most places, but the benefit is open scenery, room to run and not too crowded on a summer night. Great ice cream too with lots of toppings to choose from! Try the Moose Tracks! A long driveway leads you to a small parking lot with a series of picnic tables and benches around an ice cream shop sized building. Upon arriving around 7pm on a Tuesday evening, there was a little bit of a line- mostly two families with at least 3 kids each. I arrived with a dog that isn't always predictable in her responses, and there was plenty of room for her to have distance from kids and kids to ask before running up to touch her. I ordered a single flavor Moose tracks sugar cone and a pup cup of whip cream for the dog. The single flavor on sugar cone is about two reasonable scoops- satisfying and not too much to manage as it drips down the cone on a warm summer night. Unfortunately your bathroom option here is a porta potty, so hopefully you went before you arrived, but if you need it, it's here. Check out photos to see if your favorite flavor is here. read more

Enjoy was enjoyable. The atmosphere, the service and definitely the ice cream. Looking forward to my next visit!

We visited Kriz Farms on Wednesday for a camp trip. We had the entire place to ourselves. It's a beautiful property. The horses were very friendly. They also have goats. The best part was the icecream! The children had so many options to choose from as well as toppings. The serving sizes are huge. A medium will suffice for 2 kids. Unfortunately, there isn't much else to do here. We were told we could of brought our own toys (balls, huge connect four, kites, etc) and used the grounds. The grounds are clean with about 3 huge grass fields. If we had known, bringing toys and blankets would have made it perfect. So if you are looking for a sweet treat on the weekend ( when they are open to the public) stop by and enjoy the views and the horses. read more

Great Ice cream at a nice local farm, locally made. I had a Hartford Sunday and it was out of this world set at the picnic tables on the side of the stand read more

Cute little ice cream barn in the Seymour/Bethany area! Lots of unique flavors, and while I'm not sure whether they make the ice cream on-premise or bring it in, mine seemed a bit overchurned/crystallized (reason for only 4 stars). The portion sizes are VERY generous - even the kids size is more like a standard small/medium. It was pretty busy when we went (4pm on a Sunday) and with only two people working we did have to wait for a bit, but both "scoopers" were extremely friendly and accommodating. read more

After seeing signs in the surrounding area, we had to come make a stop! It's on such a unique property, tucked away on a beautiful horse farm. We loved our scoops of s'moreo, extreme chocolate, and black raspberry and thought the portion sizes were very generous. They use ice cream from Gifford's in Maine, which is always a classic, and Buck's in Milford. read more

Great ice cream! Not heavy at all. Much easier to eat in this summer heat. Friendly staff and an amazing location. Such a pretty view. I love rich farm but this place doesn't leave me with that "I ate too much" feeling. So many flavors too!!! Nondairy options available! Great place!! read more

Cute place to grab an ice cream and sit outside. Decent selection of flavors. Quick service.

First time trying this place. Ice cream was "so so;" Toasted Almond was a bit crystallized; chocolate was pretty good. Niece and I asked (and paid) for Medium in a cup, but we were given Small cups with 2 scoops. Granted, I could have said something, but I thought they ran out of Medium cups. Saw a lady after us get hers in a Medium cup. Scooper was nice, atmosphere was peaceful. Just wish I opened my mouth at the time. "Woulda, Shoulda, Coulda..." read more

This place doesn't make their own ice cream. They have a good selection from Gifford's out of Maine and Bucks, but the signs they have all over town might lead somebody to believe they make their own. Nonetheless, nice setting and all. And they carry good brands. But with the signs planted all over Bethany, their promotion feels a bit deceptive. It's an ice cream stand, not a farm or creamery that makes it. read more

I always go to Rich Farms in Oxford. Was really excited to try Kurtz ice cream because it was closer. If you like really sweet ice cream go to Kurts . If you like creamy ice cream go to riches farms it can't be beat ! Sorry Kurtz it just didn't cut the mustard . read more

My experience there very poor because the persons work did not know the pricing. After I had gone from the window another customer told me correct price. This was completely known to those working 7:00 pm 25 July 2022 read more

A few flavors were OK, but it's not homemade ice cream, pretty sure whipped cream and fudge are from cans. Ice cream tasted like it was from one of those $3 boxes you get at a supermarket. There are so many better places nearby! The setting of Kris farm is a dusty windswept field (no indoor seating at least during COVID) read more

Very good ice cream and gorgeous grounds. Scoopers were still getting used to moving crowds through quickly (which could yield long lines on hot summer days), but overall a great experience. We are regulars at Wentworth, Rich Farm, Ashley's , and Big dipper - but will definitely add Kriz to the rotation. read more
