"U.J." Kriz. The brothers were trained farriers (craftsmen who shoe horses) as well as blacksmiths. They were legends in the farrier world and shoed the Budweiser Clydesdales as well as Japanese Emperor Hirohito's white Arabian stallion during World War II. Johnny passed away in 1996 and U.J. followed him in 2010. Today the farm is run by Johnny's son Tim. The Kriz family opened an ice cream shop on the farm in July 2021 (that carries ice cream from Gifford's in Maine as well as Buck's in Milford) to help sustain the farm business. Horse-drawn wagon rides are operated from the Halloween to Christmas season. My family and I recently visited Kriz Farm for the first time. The place was all decorated for Christmas with plenty of fresh cut trees for sale. There was a large fire pit area for customers to sit at and keep warm as well as a reproduction of Santa's sleigh for photo opportunities. We mainly visited the farm because we heard that they are one of the last places in the state to offer real horse-drawn wagon rides in an era where everyone else is now using tractors. We had a nice ride around the property with two horses named Rocky and Luke. There's a large pile of horseshoes that they had decorated to look like a horseshoe Christmas tree. Afterwards we headed to the ice cream parlor and ordered a small cup with a scoop of "Smoreo" and a scoop of "Peppermint Stick" as well as a delicious "Eggnog Milkshake" that was garnished with a Gingerbread Man Mug Hanger. The farm also had several clever handmade crafts for sale that would make great Christmas gifts, including some fancy charcuterie boards. We had a really nice experience at Kriz Farm and would definitely return!
