Visiting a city on the east coast, I always feel compelled to try a local ice cream shop and Milkcraft did not let me down! I loved how unique their flavors were and how fresh tasting each one was! Being lactose intolerant, I tried their dairy-free strawberry sorbet which was delicious! My partner tried their bourbon breakfast which didn't hit quite as much, but was so creamy! A perfect place to stop for a late night sweet treat.
After we had dinner we walked around the Yale Campus and near by was this find! Still open late and satisfied my craving. In a waffle bowl I had a scoop of Bourbon vanilla with cornflakes. Perfectly delicious! Service was spot on and fast! Plenty of room to hang inside during the July Heat!! The only reason not to give it five stars was that over 1/2 of their flavors were out, it was a Tuesday night Will try them again next time I'm here!!
Very bizarre and rude service. I came here today with a group of people and the employees were talking amongst each other and were just rude and mean when spoken to or asked questions. The girl at the cashier was rude and pushy when I was asking about the orders. There was a man that was sweeping floors with his two feet which was really odd. The ice cream quality was average. Every ice cream was mislabeled and the service was appalling. This is by far the worst ice cream shop I've been to in New Haven.
I have never seen an establishment that serves food be this filthy. Every surface of this place is a health code violation. The staff stood behind the counter eating while they made ice cream for my nephews. Had they taken a minute from having loud, inappropriate conversations (with their mouths full nonetheless), they could have attempted to clean anything. I hate to see businesses in the city close, but will be glad to see this one go.
A little disappointed in Milkcraft. Despite it's reputation I found my experience to be a bit lackluster. While the ice cream was fine, I found that the options were lacking. Also, I may have happened to go at a busier time but there was no seating. Would give it another try but I feel like there's better ice cream shops in the area that may be more affordable for better quality
Nice spot to grab some ice cream while walking around near Yale. Fun flavors and made in small batches. There are gluten free options marked on the menu but the staff had no idea what it meant.
my cone was sour like its kinda gross . i'm standing here rn and its vile. they made it wrong and then gave me it corrected, but the cone is SOUR. not supposed to br like this. i had my friends try it as well, and they said the taste was abnormal. only thing edible was the ice cream, before it was tainted with the sour and soggy cone
The ice cream was fresh and delicious. There were so many flavors to choose from. I admit customer service was ok but who cares. The young lady was busy but pleasant enough. The ice cream was the best I've had in a long time. You can taste the freshness. The servings are hugh!
So, I don't know why this place seems to have a slightly bad rap. The major complaint appears to be customer service. I personally did not have any issues with the customer service. The employee was professional and knew the product. Maybe folks wanted someone to sing and dance or perhaps fake an overtly friendly attitude. I don't need that. I don't need to find friends or be validated as a person by someone who probably doesn't get paid enough to deal with folks that want to be pampered 24/7 . Be professional. And the person I dealt with was definitely that. As far as the reason I went to Milkcraft, the ice cream was delicious. I had the cookie butter and the flavor was phenomenal. Very creamy and fresh tasting. My daughter had cereal and milk flavored on a waffle cone. I tried it, and that too was amazing. You cannot go wrong with the way this ice cream tastes or presented. I'd give this place a 4.5 if yelp let me. The only real issues are a few more flavors wouldn't hurt and I wish there was a parking lot because it is an issue to find a spot anywhere near there. Bottom line go to an ice cream place to get ice cream. Not your ego stroked.
Really great spot for unique ice cream. You can see them making your order right in front of you. The staff are friendly and our orders came quickly.
A friend and I found Milkcraft after lunch in New Haven on our way back to New York City. What a great discovery! We both ordered the S'Mores Campfire, which was almost as fun to watch as it was to eat! Loved the fire-roasted marshmallows. A delicious treat and a reason to travel back to CT!
We had dinner across the street at a lovely Cuban restaurant and searched for a dessert place when we found Milkcraft on Yelp. So naturally, we were excited to learn dessert was just across the street :-). We had the very very Chocolate Cream & Bourbon breakfast. The ice cream was so fresh and creamy, we came back for more a couple days later. I definitely can't wait to visit New Haven again, so I can enjoy the creamy goodness!
I'm happy shops are surviving the pandemic. I am being generous with 3 stars. Overrated ice cream shop with fancy nitro tanks. Ugh. If you can't make a decent crispy egg-waffle... then just serve re-gu-lar cones. Please. New Haven... you got sh*tz on NYC's Eggloo & New Territories! SMDH. So the ice cream is ordinary... overly sweet and does not offer any wow factor whatsoever. The best vanilla is... super sweet vanilla. The Mexican Churro does not taste like churro at all. The viet coffee was the only decent one with strong coffee taste. Perhaps with the lack of competition in this Yale town... this place is... IT. Cute decor with art wall. Bench seatings outside. Only if you're in the area and can't find another dessert spot. Then hit it up. #yelplife #traveladve

We visited Milkcraft a couple of weeks ago and the ice cream was delicious. Our kids tried the s'mores ice cream and vanilla with sprinkles. The ice cream is the perfect creaminess and everyone loved it. So why only 4 stars?? The staff was a bunch of young kids who didn't seem like they wanted to be there. They took forever to take our order and by the time they did - the line had grown pretty long behind us. They also told us they didn't have a bathroom we could use. Really?!! Parking isn't easy in that area either. You have to either find street parking or park a little ways away in a garage. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't one or the coldest & windiest days this winter. (I didn't take off any stars for parking but just wanted to make others aware of the parking situation ) Overall, if we were in New Haven and wanted ice cream we would probably go back. We just wouldn't expect service with a smile. read more

Great ice cream made from scratch specially for you. You can't ask for a sample because they make each to order. Fun to watch one being made - blenders, smoke, etc. Beware - super filling - even one scoop can easily satisfy 2-3 people and after 3 spoons you feel satisfied. Delicious! read more
We were on our way to Bar for pizza and we saw this place so had to check it out. They were not busy at all but because of how the ice cream process works it takes a while to actually get one scoop. I got one scoop of the blue cookie butter ice cream and honestly was not the best ice cream I have ever had, which from the marketing it would seem since everything is done in small batches and farm fresh. Not to mention how the prices are probably the most I have seen for ice cream for the quantity that you get. I would just not go back to the place for ice cream again. read more

While we were across the street at Sol De Cuba having lunch, we spied this place. As great as the desserts are at Sol, we made the decision to make our way over and give them a try. It was raining hard outside and inside, the ground was SUPER slippery. I found myself having a really hard time not falling, and my hubby caught me more than once just between us ordering and us sitting down. The menu was pretty good looking, but they were out of all the really good flavors. I ordered the cookie ice cream and hubby ordered the vanilla, and then we took a seat and waited for them to be made. Once they were ready, I stood up and almost fell over again. I was pretty unimpressed with the ice cream overall. My cookie ice cream truly was an unreal blue color, and literally just tasted like BLUE. Other than that, there was little to distinguish the flavor of the scoop. The ice cream was very heavy, and the flavors were so potent and fatty, I found my taste buds were exhausted after just a few bites. I definitely don't want to know what the calorie content of these scoops was, or I probably would have been sick... read more
So good! Much better than the West Hartford location (always out of stock, unfriendly) Came on a Saturday, there was a handwritten sign on the door saying they would be opening at 2pm. Came back at 1:50pm and they were already packed. Lots of customers, only 2 people working. Didn't sacrifice quality at all. They took their time to deliver every order as intended. I got my usual- PB&J Roasted banana and it came with all the fixings! (I've gotten it 5 times at the other location and it only had banana the first time.) They even caramelized the banana- absolute perfect. Always have to get the cookie butter for my son- he loves it. Love this location, wish it was closer! We live 25 min away from the West Hartford one, but my friends all agree that it's worth the extra 25 min drive to come to New Haven! read more

Milkcraft was blowin' up my Yelp feed, so I knew there was something unique happening here. It already feels a little worn out: the vinyl flooring and the metal chairs. This place has gotten a lot of traffic. The details inside are fun. Pretty disappointed in the bubble cone. We got churro flavor, which could have had more cinnamon. But the texture was so chewy and weird. In Hong Kong, I had a few of these bubble waffles, and they were airier and crispier while still malleable. The salted caramel ice cream was decadent. We couldn't even finish one between two of us. The folks working here are having a good time, it appears, so that's something. Glad I tried it, but it won't replace your favorite ice cream in town. read more

We got the creambun (glazed donut) with blue cookie butter ice cream (tasted like cream ...? No real flavor...) It was eh, this was suppose to be their specialty and the most popular. It wasn't really anything. The blue ice cream is very blue! No flavor. read more

This place is nuts. Came here after having awesome pizza and I just happened to park next to it when running to get my mashed potato bacon pie from Bar. So colorful, so fun, dry ice smoke everywhere. The waffles were awesome and the vanilla ice cream was the best I've had. Everything we had, and we had a lot, was awesome. My wife, my girls and I all loved it. Only thing I don't like is how far away it is. Great place; wish we had one on Long Island. read more
So interesting. It was my first experience with liquid nitrogen ice cream. I came here after a concert and was surprised it was still open. I decided to get the chocolate or coffee flavor (forget which). The menu was simple. My attention was on the liquid nitrogen and the big ice cream mixer the whole time I was ordering. I like that they make every order fresh. I got the waffle and enjoyed this ice cream. The ice cream was very soft and creamy. Almost like a soft serve. Dunno how cost effective this business is. I walk by this place all the time but never got the chance to try it until tonight. We got Vietnamese ice coffee and toasted almond butter, each in a bubble cone. The service was quick and the flavors didn't disappoint at all! The bubble cone was soft too. Would definitely come back and recommend to others. read more

Happened to walk by Milkcraft as we were exploring New Haven, and my fiancee was very enticed by their nitrogen tanks blowing in full force, so we had to make a stop as a post-dinner treat. The space inside is pretty cool, with lots of wall art work and the "show" by the ice cream - definitely geared towards the social media influencers. Luckily it was very rainy when we stopped in, so there was essentially no line, which was nice - I can imagine it gets pretty crowded in peak times. Their menu is pretty expansive, offering many, many types of the off-the-wall ice cream flavors that I personally love. The hardest decision is just knowing which to get! I was torn between milk and cereal and blue cookie butter; the employee convinced me to get the cookie butter when I said I was interested in getting frosted flakes as my cereal should I get the cereal milk ice cream. I went with her rec, but unfortunately she didn't give me the heads up that they were out of cookie crumbles for the topping :( Had I known, I totes would have gone for the other. Oh well, no big. My fiancee was eyeing up s'mores all night, so he was set on that. After deciding your flavor, you then have to decide what vehicle to get it in - bowl, cone, bubble cone, glazed bun - so many options. The bubble cone was definitely the most unique, so we both went for that. They loaded our ice cream into the relatively large cones and then topped with respective goodies (my fiancee got toasted mallow on his, I opted for caramel sauce in the absence of the cookies). The cones themselves were very nice - tasted like a cross between a waffle cone and a funnel cake. Would be excellent on its own! My ice cream was good, but not the best ice cream I've ever had. I appreciated the speculoos flavor, but would have enjoyed cookie pieces or some texture to the cream. My fiancee enjoyed his s'mores, especially the mallow on top. The total ensemble was qiute large, so I kind of wish I was more aware of that (especially after eating a full dinner); I probably would have opted for the bowl and just shared my fiancee's cone. Oh well, we lived it up on vacation. While the ice cream was good, the biggest shock was the price - $9 for each our cones! The quantity was a lot, but not $9 worth - certainly paying for the experience rather than the food. Overall, our Milkcraft experience was good - good ice cream (not the absolute best) and unique vehicles (but be aware that they are incredible filling) but at quite a steep cost. I would definitely check this place out if you are a social media influencer or if you have a budding middle / high school student. Not necessarily the vibe I needed as a young professional. I'll likely stick to my more traditional scoop shops next time. read more

This place was amazing! A great location in the heart of popular area this place brings a new twist to ice cream. You can smell the goodness of the pancake waffle style cone as your walking up to the spot. They make the ice cream with liquid nitrogen in front of you and it is like an awesome show. The staff is quick and gets you in and out fast! There is a decent amount of places to sit both in and outside. The kids loved it! The only thing I would suggest would be to add the menu above the prep station to make you choose what you want faster and easier to read. It was kinda hard to see the menu against the wall and you have have two step from the register when there is a crowd. No doubt a repeat visit and a landmark place to go while your in New Haven. read more
