Happened to walk by Milkcraft as we were exploring New Haven, and my fiancee was very enticed by their nitrogen tanks blowing in full force, so we had to make a stop as a post-dinner treat. The space inside is pretty cool, with lots of wall art work and the "show" by the ice cream - definitely geared towards the social media influencers. Luckily it was very rainy when we stopped in, so there was essentially no line, which was nice - I can imagine it gets pretty crowded in peak times. Their menu is pretty expansive, offering many, many types of the off-the-wall ice cream flavors that I personally love. The hardest decision is just knowing which to get! I was torn between milk and cereal and blue cookie butter; the employee convinced me to get the cookie butter when I said I was interested in getting frosted flakes as my cereal should I get the cereal milk ice cream. I went with her rec, but unfortunately she didn't give me the heads up that they were out of cookie crumbles for the topping :( Had I known, I totes would have gone for the other. Oh well, no big. My fiancee was eyeing up s'mores all night, so he was set on that. After deciding your flavor, you then have to decide what vehicle to get it in - bowl, cone, bubble cone, glazed bun - so many options. The bubble cone was definitely the most unique, so we both went for that. They loaded our ice cream into the relatively large cones and then topped with respective goodies (my fiancee got toasted mallow on his, I opted for caramel sauce in the absence of the cookies). The cones themselves were very nice - tasted like a cross between a waffle cone and a funnel cake. Would be excellent on its own! My ice cream was good, but not the best ice cream I've ever had. I appreciated the speculoos flavor, but would have enjoyed cookie pieces or some texture to the cream. My fiancee enjoyed his s'mores, especially the mallow on top. The total ensemble was qiute large, so I kind of wish I was more aware of that (especially after eating a full dinner); I probably would have opted for the bowl and just shared my fiancee's cone. Oh well, we lived it up on vacation. While the ice cream was good, the biggest shock was the price - $9 for each our cones! The quantity was a lot, but not $9 worth - certainly paying for the experience rather than the food. Overall, our Milkcraft experience was good - good ice cream (not the absolute best) and unique vehicles (but be aware that they are incredible filling) but at quite a steep cost. I would definitely check this place out if you are a social media influencer or if you have a budding middle / high school student. Not necessarily the vibe I needed as a young professional. We have been to Milkcraft a couple of times and each time it has been a solid experience. It's a very clean shop with some seating. It's fun because they make the ice cream in front of you (so no sampling) as you order it. It's super filling so unless you have a large appetite, this is the perfect place to share! We've never had a problem with service or waiting a long amount of time. It is a bit pricier but being in a city, it's somewhat expected. Be prepared to look for street parking. read more

This place was amazing! A great location in the heart of popular area this place brings a new twist to ice cream. You can smell the goodness of the pancake waffle style cone as your walking up to the spot. They make the ice cream with liquid nitrogen in front of you and it is like an awesome show. The staff is quick and gets you in and out fast! There is a decent amount of places to sit both in and outside. The kids loved it! The only thing I would suggest would be to add the menu above the prep station to make you choose what you want faster and easier to read. It was kinda hard to see the menu against the wall and you have have two step from the register when there is a crowd. Place is busy but really disorganised. Rarely a line, but two of our four orders took almost 25 minutes last night after being told "the waffle cones will take 10 minutes." The manager seemed nice but in over his head, and the place was dirty--stuff on the tables, floor sticky, just really needs a thorough cleaning. Wow. I almost paid $10 for a single scoop in a waffle cone. I was torn between 3-stars vs 4-stars, but I ended up giving 4-stars for a few reasons. First, there was clear communication about the fact that making a waffle cone would take a few minutes. Second, the cookie butter blue is literally blue, but it also tastes what I imagine 'blue' would taste like. Don't judge, it's my favorite color. I like it. Finally, I still haven't eaten dinner because Milkcraft was my dinner. It was a pretty hefty amount of ice cream. It could have been 3-stars mostly because Arethusa is less than a 3 minute walk away. I'm not exactly sure what the hype is about regarding Milkcraft (I'm hating because I'm lactose intolerant) but I wanted to get my nephew ice cream so we popped in here. The young lady behind the counter was pleasant and took our order quickly. We just got him a regular chocolate ice cream as a few items they had were not available. Although it took a while for us to get the ice cream (they have a whole process in how it's made), he really enjoyed it. As far as their precautionary measures, they enforce social distancing, staff wear masks and gloves, they don't allow anyone to dine inside and they limit the number of people in the creamery at a time. read more

I finally had some time to get over here and see these Insta-worthy cones in person. It definitely takes some time making a quick stop nearly impossible. Almost always a line and at times straight out of the door of the shop. The day I was there was no exception. It was about 40 minutes until I got to the counter to place my order. This is due to a combination of the popularity of this spot and also the effort to create these concoctions. Although I had all this time to think about it, I struggled to make a choice between a few. I committed to the Bourbon Breakfast though, in a bubble cone of course. It does contain alcohol. Not overwhelming, but you now that it is there. Despite all of the work and effort, I was not wowed though. I thought it was ok and was actually disappointed my bubble cone was cone. For some reason, I was envisioning it to be warm and a little crispy. Not sure if this is also because they were so busy and they needed to keep them pre-made. This was all after waiting almost an hour in total for my single scoop as well. The staff were working so hard though and that equipment with the liquid nitrogen is no small feat. Only one staffer present who seemed overwhelmed by the patronage. Tables, chairs and floor were sticky. Aggressive homeless panhandling inside the store when we visited. Oh my goodness! Literally were my first words when this beauty landed into my hands This has got to be one of my new favorite spots in New Haven! I order the S'mores flavored ice cream topped over a Red Velvet Cone and I tell you...it looked so good I couldn't even tell if it was REAL?! I'm shook! This place has great artwork and a very NYC theme inside with the subway tiles and varied styles with the antique ceiling and modern seating. Most importantly the ice cream is great. They have a variety of specialty flavors. Cant remember what I got but it had corn flakes on top which was fun. We found parking with no issue, which is amazing since that is always a hit or miss in New Haven. My family and I came here out of curiosity as people we know had tried Milkcraft ice cream and said they really enjoyed it. When we arrived there was quite a line up but the line up moved quickly. There are 14 flavours of handcrafted ice cream made with the use of liquid nitrogen. A single scoop is $4.95, $6.95 for a double scoop, and $8.95 for triple scoop but they must all be the same flavour of ice cream otherwise you get charged for single scoops for each of the different flavours. Hong Kong style waffles are an additional $4.95. The texture of the ice cream is custardy and has a characteristic pull or stretch quality. Our family got the following flavours: strawberry sorbet, toasted almond butter, Vietnamese coffee, and choco de leche. Of those flavours, I enjoyed the Vietnamese coffee as it had a strong coffee flavour and was the least sweet of the ice creams we ordered. Choco de leche had a rich chocolate flavour but was very sweet. Also I found the salt topping to be excessive. I liked the crunch of the Marcona almond topping on the toasted almond butter ice cream but would probably find it quite sweet if I had more than a couple of bites. Overall all of the flavours were overly sweet for my taste. Milkcraft is very instagrammable and worth trying at least once as it offers a unique option for Hong Kong style bubble waffles and made to order liquid nitrogen ice cream. But as for me, my preference is still for Arethusa's ice cream when I'm in New Haven. read more

I had a craving for ice cream and was told this was the place to check out for off the wall combinations and creamy goodness, both of which were accurate descriptions. My boyfriend and I both ordered the waffle bowls and he got the s'mores and I went with the sea salted caramel. The s'mores definitely tasted like a s'mores and they even toasted the marshmallow on top! The salted caramel was definitely salty. Usually this flavor combination you get a hint of salt but every bit had a power salty bite to it. The uniqueness of this combo was that it came with popcorn on top and a caramel drizzle. New Haven's latest attempt at appropriating East Asian cultures in a hip, instagram-worthy dessert spot only leads customers to disappointment and confusion. Ecstatic about more Asian (inspired) food options in New Haven, a group of friends and I excitedly decided to rendezvous at this recently opened bubble egg waffle spot. Confused that this propped up so quickly despite having waited years for a simple Korean restaurant (no, Bon Chon and bb.q Chicken do not count), we decided to give it a try. As another reviewer mentioned, the menu panels, though artsy, pose many issues. The different menu offerings are unclear, as are the steps, and everything is listed in a somewhat disorganized manner. I found it jolting that they listed this Hong Kong bubble egg waffle specialty next to a soon-to-come Korean fish cone item (with Japanese matcha soft serve?), while incorporating elements of Taiwan. It gave me the impression that this menu attempted to fuse very distinct East Asian cultures into one seamless experience. Additionally, the menu has stars denoting which items may cause issues for individuals with special allergies, which is nice to have; however, no legend exists to tell the customer what the stars mean. Also, I ordered a churro egg waffle with blue cookie butter ice cream, but nowhere on the menu did I see the additional $1 charge for the churro option for an already overpriced and disappointing experience. My friends also ordered an original egg waffle with the vietnamese coffee as well as an original egg waffle with the cereal milk ice cream flavor. For all of us, the texture of the egg waffle fell nothing short of flat, disappointing, soggy (to be expected when ice cream is inside; however, the outside edges still somehow felt soggy), and unpleasant. The ice cream had a very thick consistency and tasted extremely artificial, but I guess that's what I expected since I ordered the blue cookie butter flavor. Aside from the ice cream, the overall experience felt all too over-stimulating, as well. Since they make everything after the placement of the order, making the egg waffles while making the nitrogen ice cream led to long wait times and inefficient order completions. My order came 10 minutes after that of my friends (I was number 75), and by that time, they had already called out numbers 82 and 90. Additionally, the loud music prevents any conversation from taking place effectively, all confounded by the loud nitrogen tanks that keep shooting off. I hope that this review helps the managers think more critically about their assembly line process and to consider a more holistic consumer experience. I'm not sure what the target audience is, I'm sure the business will do well for the instagram/coolness factor. It seems to cater to people who tend to appropriate culture and look for the next aesthetic spot to pose in. I, on the other hand, am extremely disappointed and do not plan on returning any time soon. read more

I am a firm believer that something about nitrogen ice cream is so much more creamier than regular ice cream! Not only is their ice cream made with nitrogen, but it's also then put into a warm, fresh Belgian-waffle-type bubble cone. Having a waffle cone this way is a TOTAL game changer! The line gets super long right after dinner time on weekends, so be strategic about what time you visit. The line does move fairly fast though, for its size. I highly recommend the red velvet nitrogen ice cream, which is topped with chocolate sprinkles, whip cream, and a chunk of red velvet cake. WOW!! You can pick between three cone flavors and lots of different ice cream "styles," as i call them: like s'mores, red velvet, Cookie Monster, etc. Another great choice is churro waffle with a scoop of coffee nitrogen ice cream that is drizzled with sweet and condensed milk. Perfect example of a hipster gimmick that goes to great lengths to stand out while failing the fundamentals. First of all, their menu is at the front of a crowded line so everyone takes a good minute to figure out what they want. Had to speedread the whole menu while keeping everyone behind me waiting. Staff was helpful with ordering and super fast so that's a plus. The Bubblecone© looks exactly like Hong Kong style cones, but even fresh its gummy and useless. You might as well microwave an eggo at home and put it in your pocket till you get here. It's a warm cone so of course you expect it to melt the ice cream a bit but they handed me a large amount of blue sludge right from the rip. Should've guzzled down it like a milkshake while watching the liquid nitrogen smoke show oo la la They put it in a paper holder which was hilarious because it's open at the bottom and I started leaving a neon blue drip trail right after walking out the door. What's interesting about Milkcraft is that they make their ice-cream fresh right after you order. As in, the ice-cream is made using liquid nitrogen which mean it's super creamy and the flavors are really potent! The generous portion size of the ice-cream with the bubble cone (definitely order them together) really makes this closer to a meal rather than a snack if you're thinking of finishing it by yourself but it makes it plenty to share with a friend (though I and a friend each ordered our own and finished it in good time...). They have plenty of unique flavors to choose from making it really hard to decide what to get. I ended up going for the Strawberry Balsamic in a Bubble Cone and it was so so good! The store is fully packed by teenagers becuase this is a "Marketing by Instagram" business. You need to wait for 5 to 10 mins to get your "Craft" ready. So cremy, so beautiful but so pricy. Nothing special here. The ice cream is rich and heavy. The waffle could be a full dessert course on its own. Flavor-wise, I prefer Arethusa just a block over. The ice cream there is creamier and you get more for your buck but don't feel as bloated eating it. However, if you do come to Milkcraft, the variety of flavors and toppings is broad and the process of making your ice cream is a fun experience here as well. read more

Stopped by because it looked like a unique ice cream parlor but my husband and I were disappointed. I ordered the red velvet cake and it was bland ice cream dyed bright red with the texture of frozen whipped cream. Advertised toppings were missing and the ice cream was just way too thick/sweet so I did not finish. My husband ordered fruity pebbles cereal and milk, which was a little better but both desserts were overall bland/way too sweet and waffle bowl was extremely chewy and difficult to eat. Ice cream was very overpriced for what was served. Service was okay, just one person working there at the time and she was nice. There was loud reggaeton music playing which I don't mind, just a little too loud to enjoy sitting inside. We won't be back unfortunately. read more

I like it! It IS a bit pricy and gimmicky BUT it's actually quite delicious. I have tried only a few flavors and can't bust away from the blue cookie butter. I also have my fingers crossed that I may end up with some sort of superpowers given the way too unnatural color. Contrary to many complaints, I also enjoyed the bubble cone. Yes, it's not super crispy, but who says it needs to be like a traditional waffle cone? It's delicious. The ice cream is super sweet and many of the toppings are unnecessary in my opinion.
