The Cone Zone is a small ice cream shack on the busy Post Road. There is a large gravel parking lot and several picnic tables. The line was long when we visited but it moved fairly quickly. Our order was taken and our 5 ice creams were served in a reasonable timeframe. They serve Giffords hard ice cream as well as soft serve. They have a good variety of flavors and toppings. Standard ice cream shack, good for a sweet treat On our hot dog trek, we needed a little bit of ice cream to help quell the savory barrage. So we found The Cone Zone, which was a nice little ice cream shop on our path. We waited maybe 5 minutes to get to the front of a 6 person line, so they were pretty efficient in getting orders out. I got me some edible cookie dough, and the girlfriend got a little soft serve. The ice cream was good! a very good sweet vanilla ice cream. Not the best soft serve I have had before, but a very good choice. The edible cookie dough was a little gritty, little crumbly, and had a very heavy artificial butter taste. but it was a decent cookie dough, just not great. Milford has a lot of great ice cream shops. This little local place was really good. The place is located on route 1 and it has a big parking lot with very accessible area. It has outdoor tables with shade. This places offers so many flavor from the traditional vanilla to coffee and other more flavors. Also it has the Dole whip in Pineapple & Strawberry. I ordered the Campe coffee and it was delicious and creamy. The flavor coffee was perfect on the ice cream and the portions were great. Usually I don't say anything about the cone but the baked cones that they have are so crispy and delicious. I was very happy and satisfied with this little ice cream shop. This was on my way home and I knew I needed to get a cone for the way home. They had so many amazing flavors. They also had soft serve twist with vanilla ice cream and the second flavor you could choose. I love soft serve ice cream! I chose the vanilla with watermelon. I also dipped it into one of their many flavored hardening dips. I chose cotton candy flavor! (Mostly because it was pink) I also got my boys a scoop of edible cookie dough. It was all delicious!! It's a cute spot for nice quick dessert run. There is outdoor seating and parking on site. They have dairy free items available and a list of allergy icons for customers to look over. Unfortunately, the workers seemed a little rude. When I was handed my ice cream cone, it immediately started melting and sliding off, and I was panicking and also trying to hand over my money to pay for it, meanwhile the worker is there with no emotion on her face, and no move to help me until she finally hears me asking if she could please give me a cup? It would at least be a really helpful switch if you could have people pay for their purchase BEFORE handing them their cone. This is a staple if you are in the Orange/Milford area. I have been coming to Cone Zone for years and it never misses. I believe that in recent years, they extended their hours which is great! I love getting their vanilla frozen yogurt when I go. It is sweet enough but is potentially healthier than eating a whole ice cream cone?! They have a ton of toppings that you can add to it. I like doing the Reese's cups or toasted almonds. Definitely a great place that does both soft and hard serve ice cream. read more

Great ice cream! We've been there twice very recently and they were just terrific! Today I tried a strawberry sundae (small as the portions are big). The line moves very quickly and the staff is friendly: A few benches to eat on or you can do grab and go. You order through a window there is no inside. They actually sell Giffords ice cream which I really like. I looove the Mississippi mud flavor! You cant go wrong and I prefer this ice cream place over most others. Their scoops are pretty big too! This place is a gem! We learned of this place from the CT Ice Cream Tour Instagram page and decided to choose it as our weekend stop. I had a large swirl cone dipped in banana. It was so good! Tonight we went to the Cone zone and the ice cream tasted old. It was grainy and not at all creamy. The taste was actually more like old ice milk rather than ice cream. Very disappointing. If you're going to stay open during the winter months, you need to keep making fresh ice cream. Don't keep selling the stuff that hasn't sold in the last week or two or longer. Not sure we'll be going back, which is a shame because we live right around the corner and it was always fun to go and get ice cream from them during the summer months. read more

Disclaimer: this review is not about the food at Cone Zone, simply the service. I traveled some distance to get to the Cone Zone as their Facebook page indicated that a favorite flavor was back and available. When I arrive and asked for the ice cream the response I got was, "No." No, hey sorry we've run out, or that flavor's not available today. Just a very clipped "no" with no explaination. Thankfully a friendly customer in line informed me of how they switch out flavors, etc. I was so put off by the service, I left without trying anything else. Not like me, but didn't feel like trying to order anything else there. I might give them another try, but first I'll call to see if the flavor really is available before I drive all that way. Great little ice cream stand. Extremely wide selection of flavors, creamy and delicious! I highly recommend the Pumpkin Pie (seasonal) and Mississippi Mud (coffee flavored ice cream with chocolate cookie chunks). Easy to see from the road - brilliantly pink and purple exterior with matching outdoor benches to sit and enjoy. I would give this place zero stars if I could. I bought a slushie from a careless teenager working there who overfilled the cup with cherry-flavored syrup, and when handing it over to me, the syrup spilled unto the white & black, new church dress I was wearing. The bright red syrup stained my dress permanently. To boot, the slushie tasted terrible (insipid & too sour), so not only was it a waste of money but I also lost a new dress. I called the owner to let her know about my stained dress and how I had tried everything to remove the stains, but she got defensive and never admitted that her employee's carelessness & mindfulness were still at fault. She said dismissively, "bleach the dress and it'll come out." But I can't bleach a black & white stripped dress, duh. I told her that she should at least inform & caution customers of the syrup's permanent staining power, but she responded that she wasn't obligated to do that at all. She didn't offer to pay for a dry cleaners to try to clean the dress either. She wouldn't even apologize for her worker's carelessness until I pointed out her own defensiveness. At the end she uttered an unfeeling and stoic, "sorry your dress is ruined." She kept talking over me the whole time and showed no remorse, no humility or desire to make things right. It was a terrible experience altogether in a business who doesn't care for its clientele or acts responsibly toward them. The slushies are horrible and if you get one drop of their syrups on your clothes, they'll be stained & ruined permanently. read more

I worked here in highschool, and was amazed at the amount of work the owners put into this tiny little ice cream utopia. The couple hires only employees with amazing work ethic and good recommendations. They have hard and soft ice cream, frozen yogurt, frozen lemonade, dog ice cream, flurries, milkshakes, and amazing sundaes. They have many different flavors of ice cream and also carry a variety of soft serve ice creams (with all the different toppings of course). Used to love this place when it first came to town. Very reasonably priced and nice portion sizes. A family of 5 was under $20. Not anymore....I know times are tough but their prices are insane. Now just for the 3 kids it's $20. With these new self-serve Froyo bars which offer you a ton of topping choices and do-it-yourself, why would I spend .50 cents for a spoonful of almond crunches and if I ask for more they charge me another .50 cents? Nope. This is our "birthday" spot as it's considered a special treat with these prices. It's too bad because the ice cream is very good. I can't imagine their rent is bad considering it's out of a shack and there are no tables just a few benches and only 2 employees working so what's driving their prices up? I pay more at fro-yo bars but you get more with it...tables and chairs, heat or air conditioning, TV, a roof , lighting, ambiance...
