We went on Monday, Memorial Day around 430. It wasn't too crowded but I think we just beat the rush as there were a lot of people outside happily eating their ice cream. This was our first time and we were really excited by all of the flavors listed on the website. We assumed going in that they wouldn't have every flavor available but were pleasantly surprised but the amount that they had. All 5 of us were very pleased with how smooth and creamy the ice cream was. We had coffee Oreo (big big hit!), chocolate peanut butter brownie (so good), chocolate chip cookie dough (good but nothing special) and cake batter (also good but nothing special). We'd definitely come back again next time we're in town! read more

The absolute best coffee Oreo ice cream ever!!! I've been going to Ashley's for over 26 years and the quality is still the same. We love the pictures on the walls. Also, their fudge is amazing! The service was fast and the girls were all friendly. read more

Been doing our own little DIY CT ice cream tour and out of the many many I've tried so far this place is 1000% in my top 2! The mounds of Reese's on top definitely helped lol but the ice cream itself tasted so fresh, flavorful and creamy. I got the salted cashew caramel and cookies & cream and even though they were both great the salted cashew caramel was my favorite! I wish this place was closer so I could go every weekend. (Pro tip - get some fries to go from Lockworks down the street and dip it in the ice cream for the best 'girl dinner') Definitely a must even if you're an hour away like we are! read more

Ashley's Ice Cream - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Branford, Connecticut

How can you not give Ashley's Ice Cream Branford a five star review? Their ice cream has been consistently the best for all the years I have eaten here. I typically get Oreo and Strawberry ice cream in a regular size. I also absolutely LOVE the pumpkin ice fry which is seasonal. They always have really sweet employees. The kids always have a lot of fun in the store. It's a very kid friendly environment. read more

Great ice cream texture and flavors. Red whit and blueberry is a great summertime flavor.

This is an update to my previous reviews. Stopped in this evening and tried the "Mexicali" flavor. Chocolate ice cream with chocolate chunks and just the right amount of spice added with jalapeño oil. I recommend if you're feeling adventurous. read more

A very unexpected find on Main Street and so sweet! One wall in the creamery has drawings and sweet messages from children. The staff are friendly and help you choose your flavor. Large scoops of ice cream made locally. I would have given it 5 stars but the floor needs to be swept and washed. Otherwise the place is cute and nicely decorated. read more

Always great ice cream what's your favorite flavor? The kids that work in the stores are always very pleasant

It was my first time to Ashley's on Tuesday and the next time I am in the area, I am not going to have such a full dinner so I can totally enjoy some of their non-dairy ice cream options! (We went to Darbar beforehand.) My friends had scoops and they loved it! The Coffee Chocolate Chip and the Nutella one are highly recommended! I love all of the coloring pages for artwork on the walls. Awesome decorations and also their neon sign. So classic. Service was quick and friendly and I can't wait to try it next time for myself. Cheers! read more

Ice cream screams joy and happiness but when you have unfriendly customer service it really does take away from the experience. Everything we asked for in our group of 6, seemed like a chore and was met with a disgruntled attitude by the young lady. The ice cream is good enough and there were yummy flavors. The award winning bittersweet hot chocolate was actually really delicious and I am so glad I asked for it. It was fine enough but with so many ice cream options, I don't feel the need to return. read more

Ashley's Ice Cream - Welcome sign. Apparently not like downtown. - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Branford, Connecticut

Ashley's Ice Cream is gourmet creamery that opened in New Haven, Connecticut in 1979. It was founded by Joe Ametrano. The original location was on College Street, just steps away from Yale University. The ice cream shop was named after Ashley Whippet: a talented frisbee catching dog that was popular during the 1970s. This period was a dark time for ice cream: Ben & Jerry were still college students and Häagen-Dazs had yet to churn their way onto the national stage. It didn't take long for crowds to start piling up outside of Ashley's. All of their ice cream is handcrafted in small batches, and they never use artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. Many of the ingredients (such as berries and peaches) come from local farms. Business continued to do well, so a second location was added on nearby York Street. Brian Anderson worked for Ashley's throughout his high school years. After college, Anderson signed on with Ametrano and the two continue to run the business as co-owners. More locations would soon follow: Hamden in 1983, Guilford in 1993, Branford in 1996, and Madison in 2008. The original location on College Street no longer exists, but the York Street location is now recognized as the flagship location. Several celebrities have visited Ashley's over the years, including actors Paul Giamatti (a New Haven native), James Franco, Jordana Brewster and David Duchovny. My family and I have been visiting Ashley's locations for years. Our most recent experience was a couple of weeks ago at the Branford location. We were in Branford for the afternoon and suddenly had a craving for ice cream. Ashley's is located across the street from the quaint Branford Green. After looking over the menu of the available flavors, my wife ordered scoops of Lemon Sorbet and Raspberry Sorbet, I ordered scoops of Peanut Butter Oreo and Nutella Chip, and our son had a cup of Vanilla. The ice cream was sooooooo good! We'll continue to visit Ashley's for years to come. We especially like some of their seasonal flavors such as Pumpkin during the Autumn, or Peppermint Stick during the Winter. read more

It's ok... lots of selection but definitely not better than last Summer's hidden gem at "Pop's Ice Cream" in Ledyard CT. While vacationing in New Haven... we looked up a few ice cream shops to satisfy our sweet tooth. Ashley's Ice Cream is on a cute block... with a very "Stars Hallow" feel to it... (Gilmore Girls fan, no?)... tree lined green space in front of the town court house. Was craving soft serve... and this one didn't hit the spot... the sign says it's "low fat"... definitely didn't taste as creamy and sweet as other ones we've had. Plus my waffle bowl was a bit stale. Bummer. My kids weren't too excited about it either. Note: understanding CT has a very high vaccinated rate... 90% of peeps are maskless, including folks serving the ice cream. read more

This visit I was very disappointed in the ice cream I was served. I had raspberry sorbet which though had a real raspberry taste it was just to sweet and sticky plus there were too many ice crystals in it to be enjoyable for my tastes. The second flavor was dairy free chocolate fudge which was even more disappointing. First taste was mint which wasn't part of the description so maybe the scoop used to serve it wasn't clean? The ice cream itself was stringy, sticky, with a weird plasticy mouth feel. It was tasteless - not chocolatey and no discernible gooey fudge ribbon - it was absolutely inedible. read more

Ice cream was amazing as always. Lady was very nice. I love the paintings on the wall walls very iconic. Will come back for more.

Carter is my favorite employee at Ashley's because he gave me a million dollars from the register

What a great spot! Love the flavors and has funny pictures that kids drew on the walls, I guess there's no age limit on the humor. Has a little of that old ice cream/soda shoppe look but the kids are wearing Lululemon and soulless expressions. Aren't summer jobs great! read more

When an ice cream store brags it's the best in the state, I get pulled in. We discovered Ashley's by accident while searching for another shop on the same street - one that had closed, no doubt because Ashley's ate their lunch! We tried the super rich chocolate with bitter sweet bits mixed in. This kind of flavor is why they get rave reviews. It was memorable - worth a second visit. Ok, so why 4 stars? I guess I'm reluctant to give top marks with only one visit. But, this small, clean shop has that 5 star vibe and a second go around will confirm my instinct. Definitely worth a visit if you're in town. read more

Love it, our local go to, when in the area... Great quality, great service, great hours. Great for adults and kids.

Is a pre requisite for this job being the nastiest rudest person? Genuinely wondering because every single worker has a terrible attitude every single time im there. its sad because the ice cream is so good. i still come back i just never tip because the workers are insufferable. No greetings, rude, short answers and no thank yous. for just $20 youll get ice cream with no customer service and a $5 suggested tip read more

Haven't had the chance to get to an actual brick and mortar Ashley's yet. We grabbed a small cup of their cookie dough ice cream at the Branford fair this past weekend at a food vendor booth that they had set up. The ice cream was super cold and delicious. A small hit just the spot for my son, husband and I to share as we walked around. I did go further onto their website and see that they have some cool and unique flavors most likely in store. We'll have to stop in soon. read more

Yummy ice cream and great with allergies. Great for kids or date night dessert. Visit it in many locations!

Great ice cream. The staff moves quickly through their busy lines. A great treat on any night, but much fun in the warmer months.

I'm really supportive with locally owned small businesses. My experience at Ashley's Ice Cream was horrible. The girl that took my order was extremely rude! I stood in line for 10 minutes and she greeted everyone before me that was caucasian with friendliness and good service. Being a minority I questioned that. My wife and son visited Ashley's Ice Cream last night. I didn't tell them what I experienced because I'm not sure if it was a misunderstanding on my part. However my wife experienced the same rudeness and horrible service. If I could, I would give zero stars! I DO NOT RECOMMEND IF YOUR A MINORITY OR OF COLOR!! HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! read more

Ice cream is always fresh and tasty. The help is always courteous. The pricing is also fair!

Ever hear of Chocolate Amaretto Almond, Reverse Chocolate Chip, Banana Caramel Pudding, Strawberry with Oreo, Black Raspberry Brownie Chip? They are among Ashley's 70 + regular flavors. Ever hear of Pumpkin Gingersnap or Lemon Pie? You'll find them in Ashley's 16 Seasonal Choices. For you booze-hounds, ever have a hankering for Bourbon Brown Sugar, White Russian or Irish Cream? Guess who makes these Liquor flavored treats? Add seven sorbets and four sherberts, and you get an idea why Ashley's has five locations and has won so many awards. Want an example? They've won the Advocate's Best of New Haven Ice Cream category over 20 times. The store interior is quite striking with bright red chairs sitting on a black and white checkerboard floor, colorful frisbies along the top of the walls' perimeter, a huge wall of colorful children's drawings, and a big multi-colored menu blackboard. The biggest problem you'll have here is narrowing down their immense menu into your selection. I had a mint chocolate chip cone with chocolate sprinkles, and yes it was excellent. read more

I went to Ashley's ice cream on Thursday 8/30/23 & last year summertime & the 2 times I went there, the girls never washedxh their hands. last year when I went there the girl was playing in her coworker's hair & then went to dish out ice cream without washing her hands. no thank you. then this Thursday the worker was cleaning the window & came in to svc us & didn't wash her hands. I asked her to wash her hands & she got rude. I told her you were just wiping the windows. why wouldn't you wash your handa when you come in from doing anything. does Ashleys ice cream not tell their employees to wash their hands. do they wash their hands after using the bathroom. bc she didn't after using cleaning products. idk how you are svcing the public & not washing your hands. read more

Ashley's Ice Cream - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Branford, Connecticut

I've been an Ashley's addict since I was a little kid visiting the Hamden location. I was in Branford for dinner last night and we decided to cap off our night with some local ice cream. The girls behind the counter were very accommodating, offering us samples of just about every unique flavor before we made up our minds. I had a kid's cup (which ended up being gigantic) of the peanut butter chip with a dollop of hot fudge (about $4 altogether) and my friend had the seasonal Peeps ice cream (cake batter ice cream with chopped up Peeps) on a cone. I'm not sure how she was able to eat something with a face sticking out of it, but the sample I had was amazing. Yes, Ben & Jerry's is right there, and it may be less expensive, but nothing beats local flavor. It's a testament to both brands that they survive side-by-side... but, if you have a choice? Choose Ashley's. read more

Branford's hidden gem.... This is some really good ice cream. I had chocolate chocolate chip, my daughter had blueberry, my Mom had raspberry sorbet. We all enjoyed our ice cream very much. The only regret I have is that they don't have more seating outside so the guy from Pasta Cosi doesn't yell at me to give him his chair back when he has ZERO CUSTOMERS using them... but with the exception of the mean guy from Pasta Cosi who embarrassed himself in front of half of Branford and made me give up my chair so my family could sit... I rather enjoyed the experience. Maybe Ashley's can put more chairs out there. Two per table is not enough because you guys have amazing ice cream, everyone wants to sit and eat it but no one wants to have to deal with PC's chair hog. There was nowhere to sit inside unfortunately. Highly recommended especially if you don't eat your ice cream outside (chair hog). read more

Ashley's Ice Cream is definitely one of my favorite places in New Haven to get ice cream! They have so many flavor and topping options, it's impossible to not find something you would like! The best part for me: they always have about 5 different non-dairy options that are just as good as the rest of their flavors. Most recently, they've had a Lemon Graham flavor - if you're there and they have it, please give it a try; it's absolutely delicious! They have multiple locations throughout the New Haven area, making it even easier for me to choose them over Dairy Queen or Ben & Jerry's! If you haven't given their ice cream a try yet, go as soon as possible! read more

Best ice cream on the Shoreline. I don't know what more can be said for it. The ice cream and rich and homemade. You can try any flavor which makes it easy to indulge in something different. The hot fudge is the absolute best you've ever had - it's a semisweet chocolate. This has always been the best place for ice cream so if you're going to indulge take the drive to any New Haven or Shoreline location. When I come to CT I generally make a stop even if it's 40 miles from where I am staying. If you haven't tried it, you absolutely must treat yourself some time. read more

Such amazing dairy-free ice cream (and real ice cream too)! Serving out of their door for the time being, they still had a selection of normal, dairy-free, and sugar-free flavors. The flavors seem to rotate so I chose the lemon graham flavor out of the two non-dairy options. I was in the mood for something more chocolatey, but make no mistake--this tastes just like normal ice cream. The thick, creamy consistency, sharp lemon taste, and just the right texture makes this an almost guilt-free treat. I've enjoyed the actual ice cream in years past and it's also delicious. Don't pass up on this classic Connecticut sweets staple! read more
