Im a contractor and owner of a storage bussiness, not in the area. That lumber yard has terrible service, between loading youre material and service at the counter. When it comes to small bussiness, customers service helps to keep youre door open, even when youre small bussiness backs up to home depot! Plus a portable bathroom used to run a bussiness that has city sewer. Payless lumber needs alot of help. read more

Absolutely Terrible! I special ordered a 7ft length of black painted 1 5/8" tubing for my metal chain link gate. This tubing is supposed to support the large steel wheel which is attached to my 23' long driveway gate. The total amount for the metal tube was $26.14. I found that the company which makes the tubing decided that it's ok to use a thin wall tube for this weight bearing application causing a very sloppy and loose fit. Not acceptable unless you are a company that does not care about the products you sell. I attempted to return the tubing at Payless Building Supply in Chico, CA. They declined to return it or even give me store credit because the cashier said it was special ordered. I have spent well over $5000 at this store for materials in the last few years. Never again will I buy anything from Payless Building Supply in Chico, Ca. They do not stand behind their products. Absolutely Terrible! read more

Solid spot for building supplies,would guess around ,10-20% cheaper than home Depot or Lowes. Nice guys working there and we're helpful. Only issue is it sounds like inventory isn't accurate always and there are no prices on anything. So there is some guess and check. Highly recommend. read more

Payless Building Supply is the place to go get the lumber you need for your next project. They are accustomed to dealing with both contractors and homeowners and they have the knowledge about their products that you won't find in the big box stores. They have plenty of inventory - a whole yard filled with stack after stack of building supplies. They have convenient store hours, good pricing and their employees are friendly, experienced and polite to customers. They have been around for decades and they know their business. They have a spot near the entrance where they have overstocks and closeouts and my husband loves to have me drive by so he can see what they've got. He has saved BIG BUCKS by getting products that are marked down up to 90%, at times. My husband and I have a business nearby and we always check with Payless Building Supply first when we need the products they carry. They are locally owned and should be supported by our community in Chico, CA. read more

I bought over $700 dollars worth of plank redwood to build my front porch. So we build it and after a week and a half we started to notice the wood was splitting where the screws were. So we went and bought some stain and applied it. Then the next day we notice the stain was dry but sap is oozing out of the wood in all different places. So I called them ask why this was happening and the guys stated that the wood was still green. Why would you not inform your customers that your wood that you are selling is not cured all the way. Now I'm afraid my porch isn't going to be secure with how bad it's splitting. I'm very disappointed and will never go back to this place again read more

This is a lumber yard that has employees that actually know what their talking about! Unlike Meeks and the other box stores. I like the selection of lumber which is much better quality AND much lower prices than the big box stores. Also things like deck screws are MUCH cheaper than box store pricing. I have custom ordered large beams with a custom color pressure treatment for a big pergola and also had them deliver a lot of redwood for a deck (among many other things) and I have always been super happy with the quality and the pricing. The staff is also friendly and knowledgeable... what a great thing that is! That's why I keep coming back. read more

This is the place to go if you have a project. Great quality at even better price. They will even deliver !! We needed to fence an entire yard. Home D would have cost 30% more. Staff are knowledgeable, helpful and very polite. I'm glad there are still a few local businesses around the still provide great products t a decent price and employ local. Hurray ! read more
