This is our go-to store, and it's conveniently located on South Congress with plenty of parking. They even offer free delivery when you spend over $65, which is easy when stocking up on my picky dog's favorites and raw food. We can't stop raving about how helpful Keith and his staff are! They are by far the most knowledgeable about shopping for pet food, treats, and more. I've been to many pet stores, and what separates them is their deep knowledge of the products/supply and pet nutrition. I have a 15lb Boston terrier who has always been picky, but after talking to Keith and our vet, they both recommended that she try a raw diet. Ever since the switch from kibble to raw, her coat is shinier, she has less gas and fewer allergies, and everyone still thinks she's a puppy at 5.5 years old...I mean, she'll always be my puppy/baby forever ;) They always have really fun, cute toys that change up, too. I love Paws on Chicon! The staff here are incredibly friendly and welcoming. As soon as you walk in, they're super attentive and even hand-feed your pup yummy treats--while being mindful of any allergies! It's such a thoughtful touch and one of the many reasons I prefer this place over the larger chain pet stores. If you stop by on the weekend, you have to get their fro-yo! They hand-pour it and top it with dog-friendly goodies--my wiener dog, Snoop, is obsessed. They also have a great variety of treats, toys, and pet essentials, plus a cute little bench outside where you and your pup can sit and enjoy the fro-yo together. Another reason to love this place? Love finding a local business. Bonus that they're conveniently located, have great service, and a better selection of premium pet foods than the big box stores. The best thing is their price on the premium food (Fromm) we wanted was less than what was available online. That's before the bag we get for free after repeated purchases (think it's after 12 bags). This is the cutest pet shop I've ever been to! I heard they serve doggy froyo, and just had to come by and the store did not disappoint! When I walked in with my pups, I began walking around to explore with them. Two staff members approached me to ensure they could provide me any assistance I needed. They made me feel very welcome, and they were so kind to my fur babies. I went home with so many cute goodies for my babies. My favorite thing about this shop was their meat bar. My dogs LOVE chicken feet and chicken heads, and I'm so happy to have finally found a shop close to home to pickup their goodies. They also have interesting pieces for your pup to enjoy like alligator feet! I also thought their bakery area was so cute. They have the most adorable biscuits, designed to look like a variety of things like pizza, pie, etc. During this trip, I got both of my pups a cup of froyo with beef and liver topper, chicken feet, chicken heads, alligator feet, and four bakery treats designed to look like blueberry pie. This place is such a gem in the SOUTH South Congress area. Our area is pretty cookie cutter suburban and Paws on Chicon is just what we need. I spoil my fur-baby frequently at Paws. They have gourmet food options, lots of treats including my dog's favorite brand Earth Animal (get the no-hides!!), doggy fro-yo on tap (which my dog LOVES) as well as a ton of toys and other necessities like wipes for his ears and paws. I also love the bathing station. It's clean, new, and stocked even with fresh towels and industrial sized dryers which is AMAZING for my double coated, 85 lbs humongous dog. You can obviously bring your pet into the store with you, which is nice, and they staff is super friendly and more than willing to give you guidance and advice. This place exceeded my expectations! We have 5 dogs (I know, I know..) and bathing all of them is usually a week long ordeal, doing 1 a day to give our backs a rest. Our pups needed baths BAD, and since it's been colder out we haven't had a chance. We found Paws on Chicon and headed their way! There was no appt needed to use the dog baths, and when we arrived the staff was extremely friendly and gave us a quick rundown on how the bath works. The soap comes out of the same hose as the water, which made it so easy for those with water resistant coats like our Labrador. The dryer was amazing for de shedding our husky! Fur was flying! The individual room made me feel way better allowing this, because the couple next to us was able to wash their dog without getting caught in our fur tornado. We did a quick vacuum before leaving, although the staff said we could leave it as is. Will definitely return next time our pack of pups need another bath, this place literally made it SO easy, and quite enjoyable even! We also grabbed a few treats for our girls on the way out. :) Y'all are great! read more

The owner Keith is extremely unpleasant and condescending. I asked an associate (who are very nice btw) if they carried a brand of cat food that they carry for dogs. They said they could look into ordering one bag for me. I agreed, because to order from the brand you need to order several bags, and I didn't want to do that in without making sure my cat liked it first. A week later Keith called me to set up the order. He informed me that I had to prepay and could not return it, which I was fine with (I think the bag was $35 dollars). I mentioned I wanted to try that brand because it has lower phosphorous. He asked if I wanted the blend titled 'low phosphorus' and I said no, because that blend is chicken and I wanted beef (my cat has IBD and a chicken allergy). I explained that while Beef does not say low phosphorous in the title on the front of the bag, it still has significantly lower phosphorous than any non prescription cat food out there (0.55% on a DMB ). I think he only heard the low phosphorous part and stopped listening to me after that because he ended up ordering the chicken blend. I shouldn't have said the words low phosphorous at all, because apparently I confused him (even though I specifically told him that I wanted the Beef blend) and he is unaware that a food can have low phosphorous without it being part of the product title on the front of the bag. Now the fun part! An associate called to tell me the low phos chicken food arrived and I let them know I did not order that kind. They had Keith call me back and I reiterated to him that I didn't ask for the low phosphorous chicken, I asked for the Beef (which also has quite low phosphorous levels). He was immediately combative and began to tell me there is absolutely no way I said that because he would *never* have ordered the wrong item. I can assure you and him and everyone else that I absolutely did 100% say that I wanted beef and specifically did not want the chicken cat food. I wish so much the call was recorded so he could see that he is 100% wrong. Does he really think that the chances of him not paying attention and ordering the wrong item are lower than me placing a special order for a food my cat is allergic to? Apparently so. He said he could check to see if the company would switch it out with a Beef one and asked if I wanted that, to which I replied sure, if I *have* to get it. He then said "Oh you don't want it anymore? See that confuses me." Implying that I was the one who made a mistake or never really wanted it or something?? Who knows. I said no I definitely want to try it I just don't know if I want to try it from your company. And he said "Oh, you don't want to try it from ME? The person who tried to help you by special ordering this food?" and continued to dig his heels in and rant about how it was all my fault in the rudest tone I have ever experienced from a "professional." I have spent countless hours researching my senior cat's health and would never, ever in a million years have told him to order a food she can't have. Paws on Chicon, on the other hand, deals with cats as an afterthought. They have a very minimal selection for cats and seemingly an owner who is not knowledgeable about cats or cat nutrition. The most annoying thing is that if he had called and said "Sorry I ordered the wrong food and can't return it" I wouldn't have cared. I would have been slightly bummed at losing $35 or so dollars, but honestly would not have cared. What baffles me is his behavior and refusing to acknowledge that he made a mistake and did not listen to me and then proceeding to patronize me and treat me like total garbage. I ended up saying forget it and hanging up because he was really upsetting me and bumming me out. He kept going on and on about how this was all my fault and made it seem like I owed him something. Well, I don't owe him anything, in fact he owes me $35 but he can keep it because I would happily lose $35 to never have to speak to that vile man or enter his establishment again. I just wanted to write a quick update after using the dog washing rooms here - they are fantastic! The shampoo and conditioning system is excellent. Paws on Chicon staff are on hand with any questions or needs you have. Don't skip on the dryers! It is so convenient to run in and hop your pup in the tub and have all the necessary grooming tools right at your fingertips. The best part is you don't have to do the final cleanup with all the hair (of course we tried to get as much as we could out of the tub). They also have packages available which we purchased and it's super easy/quick to check out. Wonderful dog wash that's close to home! read more
