Great place, very convenient for everything. Pretty much in the center of town. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. The bed was super comfortable but the down pillows sucked (no support). Would have been nice to have pillow options. The room was very clean and the A/C worked perfectly. The fire pit is the gathering place it seems. We met quite a few very nice people out there during the evenings, all with interesting stories. The grounds are well-kept and lush. Our room was 302 and it came with a $40/nt credit which we blew through spending the day at their sister property Descanso Beach Club. We rented chaise lounges and spent 2/3 of a day just lounging and drinking and eating, all in perfect weather. Would I recommend it to family and friends? Yes. read more

Pavilion deserves 5 stars! Let me tell you why- We decided to visit Catalina Islands for our first wedding anniversary celebration. Our ferry was scheduled to reach early morning so we decided to check in the hotel even though our room would be ready by afternoon. The staff at Pavilion was so gracious and courteous to us. We loved how welcoming they were. Their hospitality made our stay 10x better. Having checked in our luggage, they even provided us details of all the complementary tours offered by the hotel with our stay. We did the bus tour of the Island (really interesting way to know the island) and the cyclone boat tour to Seal Point (this was super-fun). Back at the hotel, the rooms well equipped, very neat and clean. We enjoyed the complimentary wine and cheese tasting in the evening by the fireplace with the ocean view. So blissful! Breakfast in the morning is not your average breakfast- from build your own omelette(fancy), to muffins, pastry, cut fruits, sausages, yogurt(not the sugary one), fresh juices, barista brewed coffee, etc. Simply loved it. Though Pavilion is pricey, I say its so worth the experience! Will definitely come back and stay here anytime I revisit Catalina Island. read more

First of all, I want to say thank you to CARLY! She was awesome in every way. From the moment we walked in til the moment we left. Carly definitely made our stay at the pavilion such a great stay. We had issues regarding our payments and she was able to help us in every way possible and never said no to us, she always wanted to find a way to fix our problems. Second of all, The hotel itself was beautiful and relaxing. Although we didn't spend much time inside the hotel room, when we did, it was super comfortable. The mattress and pillows are super comfortable and if you request anything they always have it ready for you by the time you get back to your room in the evening. This was our most relaxing visit to Catalina Island yet, thanks to the Pavilion Hotel. The location was the best on the island with easy access to the beach. We took advantage of the complimentary tour, delicious omelet breakfast, and wine and cheese hour. The staff was exceptional and we will definitely be back. Last year for our 20th anniversary we stayed at this amazing hotel for four days and three pretty incredible nights! We initally had booked Hotel Atwater, which is beautiful too, but were disappointed with the size of the room, plus we wanted something that was a little more special. After walking around the town right after arrival we came upon the Pavilion Hotel. Remembering that this one as one of our choices we stopped in and asked if we could take a look around. WOW! Just loved how lush it was, the wine and cheese happy hour, the many seating areas, nice sized room etc. At the front desk I expressed my wish that we could haved stayed at the Pavilion instead and we were floored when Julie(a) said that they were sister hotels to Hotel Atwater and that, yes, we COULD switch! Yes, it cost us more, but it was worth it to us. I want to stress that the staff at this hotel was just SUPER accommodating and friendly and not only did they make the switch for us, but also surprised us with a bottle of champagne and chocolates in our room. Couldn't believe it. :)))) I was on cloud 9 the whole time we were there. Enjoyed the island, of course, but knowing that we could easily at any time, pop back in the room and freshen up or drop something off, was so nice. Plus the room was clean, the beds were comfortable, housekeeping was amazing (I already mentioned the desk staff were amazing!) and really there is nothing I would have changed about our stay. The best location in Catalina....right across from the pier. We loved everything about the Pavilion Hotel. The front desk receptionist, Cassi, was so friendly, yet professional, and very accommodating and helpful. The grounds are just beautiful, and well maintained. So peaceful and tranquil. Loved the loungers placed all around for some great relaxing. The Happy Hour was so nice every night. Your choice of wines and a lovely little cheese plate. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting around the fire pit chatting with other guests in the evening. Each morning, we went to The Brewery for breakfast, brought it back to the hotel, and sat out at the front tables by the railing, enjoying the beautiful scenery. The rooms were very nice. A bit small, but the bathroom was large with lots of counter space. Everything, inside and out was so clean. We can't wait to go back. read more

I have to give props to Brandon Vasaturo, who took care of us and who was especially amazing in being able to guide us through the many activities to engage on at the hotel and on the island! He was welcoming, sincere, and let's not forget Gemma, Alex, Francisco, Carlos, and the breakfast omelet chefs!!! We absolutely recommend this place because in all seriousness you want to feel welcome wherever you spend your hard-earned money. This hotel is fantastic! The staff are friendly and accommodating. They let us do an early check-in, had free wine and cheese and gave us a $20 voucher for a meal at one of the restaurants on the island. On check out day, they held our bags for us while we walked around, since we had a couple of hours u til our boat came. They also gave us complimentary wine while we waited in their adorable patio area. Such a wonderful experience! read more

We've been coming here for many years and this year was very disappointing. They have done away with the breakfast and the cheese plate was an absolute joke. Two crackers,two dried cranberries, two pieces,the size of a postage stamp of cheese, and a smear of jelly! The rooms have no drawers. No outlet near the bed. You have to ask everyday to have your room cleaned. Did not replace disposable cups for coffee. The hotel has the best location on the island. Outdoor seating area is wonderful. Do like the luggage service. For the price of the rooms, I would now expect more. read more

I have nothing but good things to say about this hotel. I did a lot of research in booking a place to stay for my birthday (turned engagement!) trip for my 2 year old and her father. This place was higher on the spending side but soooooo worth it. Location? Ideal. It's a quick walk from the ferry terminal and easy to spot. Luggage can be transported to the hotel and back for no charge. The hotel is right on the beach front near the Green Pier. There are shops and restaurants surrounding. But it's quiet! The garden is a beautiful place to rest and lounge, or let your little one run around. The wine and cheese social hour can't be beat. Breakfast is free and delicious -- espresso machine drinks made to order, mini frittatas, bacon, sausage, fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, cereals, breads, juices. Fruit infused water is always available for guests. The rooms are fair sized (we stayed in a premier double) and very clean. Comfy beds. Nice TVs. Mini fridges. Ample counter space on still vanity. DVDs, blue ray players, and tablets are available from the lobby. The staff were all genuine, attentive, and friendly. Special shout outs to Jocelyn and Kaylie for making our engagement even more memorable by sending a personalized card and champagne to our room! We will be back. The Pavilion Hotel has an amazing location - walking distance from the ferry, in the heart of downtown Catalina, steps from the water. They have a wine and cheese hour which we arrived too late for and they were nice enough to send two glasses of wine to our room (really nice staff and great service!). There's also a great breakfast buffet (mostly "cold" items - coffee, tea, juices, fruits, oatmeal, bagels, muffins, bread, croissants, pastries, cheeses, ham, salami). There are a lot of rooms so breakfast and wine hour can get quite busy. The hotel seems to be a converted apartment complex or was at least built in that style. There are a lot of rooms, the complex is quite large, and the rooms are pretty small and I thought quite basic (not really a "luxury" hotel) but they are comfortable and have everything that you need. What you're paying for here is really the location and service. We got a great rate which was less than $200 per night all in on a weekend night which I felt was the right price; I know that it can cost more than that which seems a bit much for what you are getting. If you are not price conscious, it's probably the best choice on the island! read more

Enjoyed the green landscape with seating area outside the room and firepit option to hangout near lobby, love the succulents decor, ideal location-center of AVALON, everything was walking distance...! Everything was perfect! My wife and I arrived to the island mid-morning. Even though check was wasn't until 4pm, they held our luggage so we could attend our tours. And that was just the first positive experience of many. Wine and cheese every afternoon--yes please. Omelet bar ever morning--can it get better? Two free tours with your stay--I guess it can. All of the staff was supper friendly, which juxtaposed our negative experience with most other service staff on the island. Every hotel experience will now be compared to my stay at The Pavilion. This hotel is just steps from the beach. My favorite part of my stay was the tranquil atrium area . It was lush and green with cushioned recliner chairs. It was pretty quiet and relaxing, except for the occasional random child running through playing tag lol. There is complimentary lemon water outside and wine & cheese tasting is at 430-5pm. My favorite Avalon hotel hands down. You don't go to Catalina Island to sit around in a hotel room all day and the Pavilion Hotel does a good job of encouraging you to get out and enjoy the islands. (But you'd be comfortable and happy if you choose to stay in one of the rooms.) From the sliding glass doors and patios to the large outdoor area, they bring the inside outside. The courtyard area feels like a giant living room with tons of seating, tables, and even a fire pit. It also helps that the hotel is a hop, skip and a jump away from the water's edge. They also have a nice lounge area indoors for those few times that it rains. This lounge has a computer with free internet access for those who can't stay away from technology on their vacation. They also hold their continental breakfast here, which features some really great pastries in addition to standards like cereal and juice. Avalon is a tiny town to begin with, but this hotel is in a great location and super easy to get to for those arriving by boat. read more

Catalina has long been known for being overpriced and underperforming, both in hotels and restaurants. Sure, expect prices to be higher on the island, especially peak tourist season. That's true globally. Comparatively, Catalina is somewhat reasonable. Finally, many properties have been renovated and management has taken it more seriously, putting some great staff at their front desks. The Pavillion has undergone major renovations and now is truly a gem. Beautiful, tranquil outdoor garden spaces, nice firepit, lots of outdoor seating to relax, a beautiful indoor common area with glass fronting the beach and the main street, board games, a great hot breakfast and wine and cheese in the evenings. And it's a short 5-minute walk from the boat dock-- super convenient. The rooms are set back from the main street (Crescent) so noise is greatly minimized. My wife and I were treated to one of their two beautiful suites (#202) which was stunning. Large den with sofa and chairs, guest bathroom, huge glass wall of doors that completely open to a large balcony/patio with chaise lounge and chairs overlooking the gardens and the ocean, nice comfortable king bed in separate bedroom and a very large bathroom, beautifully tiled and a terrific large shower. One of the nicest rooms I've ever stayed in (and I travel worldwide.) The staff was extremely accommodating and helpful, doing everything they could to please. (I read one review that a desk staff was rude and unfriendly... that absolutely was the complete opposite of our experience.) It was our anniversary, and the General Manager and Asst. Manager left a nice note, some chocolates, and a chilled bottle of Martinelli's (knowing we don't drink) with champagne glasses and bowl of fruit upon our arrival. They made our two nights there extra special. I have stayed at many properties over my 30+ years of visiting the island, and this is the best bag for the buck by far. (To be clear, I WAS staying in their nicest room... :-) Highly recommended. 10/10 read more

O-M-G.. such a wonderful time we had in Avalon Bay because we chose Pavilion hotel! We were looking at hotel packages and came across free zip lining and ferry ride(from Long beach Landing through Catalina Express) and thought this is a good deal. So I called their number and asked them the price details for the weekend during Valentine's day. They have different price quote for weekends and less price through Sunday to Thursday. So we chose to stay Sunday and Monday. The package offers ONE free zipline + ferry ride for one night. So if you stay 2 nights then 2 free tickets. Since we planned to stay for one night, we got one free tickets and the extra person gets 50% of zip line and ferry ride and unlimited free tours for two of us. The best part I liked with the front desk was that, they took care of everything and billed us accordingly. So we had the ferry rides and zip lining time slot all set for us for the same time. You let them know which tours you wanna take at which time slot and they will print the tickets for you. We were very much happy with it. The hotel is 4 blocks from the ferry dock. The location is very convenient, close by to major streets and 15 minutes walk away to Descano beach/Casino. All the major shops and eateries start from pavilion hotel. Rest of the hotels on the way looks dingy and old. We got the King bed room. Completely impressed with the lobby, fire pit, rooms, bathroom. Spacious bedroom, quiet surrounding, clean mattress, huge closet and mirror room. They have coffee maker, iphone/ipod/itouch docking station, mounted flat screen tv. They have complimentary Wine and Cheese tasting from 4 to 5PM. Complimentary breakfast is so-so.. they offer fruits, bakery, ice tea, bagels, cheese, coffee. I would recommend staying in this hotel. I have been to Catalina Island just about every summer since I was a kid. It would not feel right for me not to go! There is only one time I did not stay at the Pavilion and for that I was truly sorry, but I may need to find another "family-type" hotel. Now that the Pavilion has been "updated and refurbished," I am a little bit skittish that the "renovations" might have sent their room rates sky-rocketing up to the stratosphere! Yes folks-the least expensive mid-week room rate is now a terrifying $275/ per night! Yikes! I am withholding any final judgments until I get over there and see for myself in August. As for the new Hotel (nee Lodge) debuting on May 14, 2010, I received a VIP mailer inviting me back as a preferred past guest. In the flier it talks of a "robust multi-million dollar transformation" bringing about a new name and sophistication-(i.e. higher prices.) A "union of elegant style and casual luxury" envelopes the 71 guest rooms and now there are 2 breath-taking ocean view suites available. With the remodel, the Pavilion is the ONLY resort in Avalon to offer it's guest the usage of private lanais. There is now an open-air lounge, beautifully-land-scaped garden courtyard with fire pit and a new Internet Cafe. Also noted- a wine & cheese bar! It is sounding yuppier by the minute! This rejuvenation will now help usher in the "renaissance of Catalina Island." Also new on the scene: the Avalon Grille Restaurant which opens this summer and will offer Pavilion patrons preferred seating and reservations. Pavilion people also get the same special VIP treatment at the Catalina Country Club and my favorite spot-the Descanso Beach Club! I was quite excited about news of the new Zip Line Eco-Tour-which lets you travel along Descanso Canyon on 5 different zip lines at speeds reaching 40 mph! There is now a Sea Trek Undersea Adventure featuring specially engineered underwater helmets that allows anyone-without even diving experience-to safely walk along the ocean floor. Looks absolutely awesome! So there is much excitement and anticipation for the NEW Pavilion, and all the fresh tourist attractions that have gotten a lot of attention for the island. I realize that after the terrible May 2007 brush fire, that many folks were scared to come over and tourism took a hit. Anyone who lives in southern California and hasn't made the trip over to this scenic and quaint island is missing out on a fun time! Hopefully, Catalina Island will always maintain that sly charm and fresh-aired appeal that it has in abundance. read more

We came here for a romantic getaway, and it was everything we hoped it would be. First and foremost, the location cannot be beat. It's a short walk from the ferry and the resort is only steps from the beach. The landscape is beautifully manicured, it looks very much like Hawaii with giant palms, green grass and tropical plants and flowers. As we walked to our room, I kept stopping to take pictures because I couldn't believe how gorgeous the grounds were. It set the tone for a wonderful weekend. Our room was beautiful, a mini fridge is provided so we walked down to vons and got some healthy snacks for the room. The bed was so comfortable we didn't want to get out of bed in the morning, and the linens were high quality. The toiletries provided smelled amazing, and the staff was so attentive and we noticed that housekeeping had been in the room throughout the day to replenish soaps and clean. After a long day exploring the island, we were tired and it was a little chilly out so we decided to head down to the firepit. We met a few other nice couples, and much to our surprise, the hotel staff came out with huge glasses of wine for all of us. To say they were kind and accommodating would be an understatement. Another kudos to the integrity of this staff: we initially booked our stay for 3 nights, but due to us not being from southern CA, we didn't factor in traffic on the 405 and missed our ferry. We were so bummed. We called Pavillion and explained we'd be on the next ferry in the morning, and had to get a room in LA. Upon our arrival at the resort, they informed us that since it was out of our control, that they wouldn't be charging us for the night we missed. We were so grateful. That amazing customer service set the tone for an incredible stay, and is the reason we will always come back to Pavillion. read more

Three years ago we decided to marry on the beach in Avalon, we chose the Pavilion Hotel as the place our small party of family & friends would stay. We couldn't have been happier with the Hotel, Staff, and Accommodations!! Fast forward three years (December 8, 2019), I decided to do an impromptu revisit of Avalon and again booked at the Pavilion... I was again blown away by the friendly and courteous staff upon arriving and the room was great!! Wine & Cheese in the evening around the fire pit and a filling breakfast every morning. One of the best hotel experiences ever . The Pavillion hotel offers an amazing customer service experience. The staff was especially accommodating to our group of 5 adults and 3 small children. We needed an extra room which was not available so they placed us in a suite for the same rate . The initial mistake was on our end the but the end result was fixed by the hotels great experienced staff !!! The island was beautiful and the beach is right in front of the hotel ... Although a pool would have been cool and their is enough space to put one in ... (Hint hint to the hotel owner!) ... It's location can't be beat !!!!! Not happy about our small room and the ants!!! It's everywhere in the bathroom!!! You can also hear the music and footsteps from the people staying above our room. The light bulb in the bathroom was also burnt out and needed to be replaced. The sliding shutter doors also won't shut and needs to be fixed. I tried calling front desk for more towels but I guess they stop answering the phone after a certain time. Also, they don't monitor who partakes in the wine and cheese hour. The fire pit was surrounded by people who were not even guests of the hotel. This is our second visit here and I'm disappointed this time. read more

Huge fan of this place!!! We stayed here for 1 Friday night recently, and had a wonderful experience. We came over to the island on the Catalina Flyer, and the staff at the front desk let us check into our room at 10:30 am. Our room was upstairs, roomy and clean, with gorgeous decorations and a very comfortable bed. We loved the vintage posters of Catalina in the room and bathroom. Very nice shower products, big bathtub and plush towels. The property itself is very well-manicured, with lots of cute lounge chairs and chaise lounges in the garden area. We decided to take over the fire pit to hang out and watch the world walk by on the boardwalk. So relaxing. Be sure not to miss their 4 pm wine/cheese social in the open room adjacent to the fire pit area, complete with several types of wine and cheese plated for guests to nibble on. They also have an apothecary candy area with lollypops, tootsie rolls, and salt-water taffy that you can help yourself to most of the day or night. Continental breakfast (included with room price) was served there the next morning, with fresh fruit, Starbucks coffee, tea, cereal, bagels, and a variety of pastries available to guests. Room rates are approximately $200 per night, and totally worth it--if you do your research you'll see that total s***t hole hotels cost around $160, so you might as well be right in the heart of the action steps from the beach, in a gorgeous hotel for a few dollars more. If you stay two nights, you also get half-off zip-lining and other tours. We plan to do that for our next visit. Two thumbs up for the whole experience. read more

Stayed at our favorite hotel 3/22-24/23 and Julia, Eva, and David went beyond just doing their job. These employees were excellent.

I get that this is a remote island but the service is under par. For example. How are you charging me 500 a night and you don't even have someone working at the front desk at all times? That's just poor hotel etiquette. You can't call for towels, TP, nothing. Stop being cheap and have someone available 24/7. What if there's a toilet flood or anything else? Secondly The only difference between our room and a regular room is a little table and two chairs in the front of the door. I had honestly thought this patio space was going to be private and available at the back of the room but these rooms are pretty tiny, you would get more bang for your buck staying at Zane grey Pueblo for sure! So if you're thinking of spending the extra money on a DELUXE room I would not recommend it as there's chairs and relaxation areas throughout. The reason I'm giving 2 stars and not one is because I'm not holding them to mainland standards. This hotel was cheaply renovated not overly nice. I will be staying somewhere else next time read more
