    Rainbow trout with baked potato
    Elizabeth J.

The restaurant looks fancier than it is, and it has a great view of the river. The menu is full of beef and seafood dishes for piles of money. I ordered the rainbow trout. It came with two sides but there were no vegetable sides other than potatoes (baked or mashed potatoes) I even asked the server but his only suggestion was the salad. Okay, I had a baked potato and the salad. The salad was pretty good with fresh romaine lettuce and two grape tomatoes and a spoonful of grated carrot. It was minimal but I still appreciated something green. My trout was broiled nicely and tasted good. The potato was plain but well-cooked. Our server Patrick was friendly and seemed to enjoy his work.

My wife and I had the ribeye medium and baked potato and salad.Food was great. My wife had the blue lemonade and I had a good German beer (warsteiner duncle).Spenser did a hell of a job waiting on us.The seating on the water was taken or it would have put it over the top.A great first stop in Helen by The Working Man Review.

Wow incredible food 1/2 rack of ribs huge and my large shrimp were colossal in size as were their baked potatoes. The side salads were fresh and refreshing. Ben our waiter was super nice and attentive. The restaurant had lots of tables without feeling crowded. If you're in the Helen area this is definitely the place to eat. Pricing was very reasonable for a he portions you received so I highly recommend this restaurant.

The filet mignon with a loaded baked potato and the mushrooms were very delicious! The whole meal took our tastebuds on a great ride!!!!

Oktoberfest feast! Also it was a birthday dinner! The service was fantastic! Dress code is enforced and that is a good thing! This restaurant has been in business for 60years!!!!! The view from the restaurant to the river was entertaining and we saw a few tubers go by!

$$ Right next-door to Paul's steakhouse is Paul's margarita deck, which overlooks the Chattahoochee river with plenty of seating riverside! We stopped here just for a quick snack... Margarita and some onion rings. You order your drink and food with the bartender and you pick up your food at the kitchen window. There's plenty of condiments in the cafeteria style kitchen area. The best thing was sitting Riverside on the deck and watching the people in the in tubes flow by. Great conversation, great weather, and pretty solid pub food. Safe journeys!

The Margarita Bar opens early, & is next to Paul's, which opens later at 4pm. Same owner. The Reuben sandwich was good. Rye bread was soft. I wish it had been toasted more, but it was a good sandwich, around $12. Came with a bag of Ruffles potato chips. The margarita was on the rocks & handmade. There are two ordering windows. You show your ticket number to pick up your food after they call your number. Incredible seating viewing the Chattahoochee River right outside. Lots of families. Calm, fun atmosphere.

Ribeye steak, iPhone camera makes it look better than it was. It was bluish brown and raw in the center.

I had a long review I just deleted because it went into too much detail, so here's the quick…read morerundown. Summer/2023 celebrating my daughter's birthday weekend. Our rental was walking distance to Mondays so we all(group of 7) go there Friday night around 9:30ish and the younger 5ppl in our group go back on Saturday night around 11:30ish Friday: 7 of us walk in and we took turns buying rounds of shots. 5 rounds and I forget what the amount was but everyone should've paid the same since nobody ordered anything different. So be wary of pricing. Redneck women started fighting over a man. Got me wet from when a woman threw her drink in the other woman's face. Even though, from what I witnessed, the owner sided with the woman who was instigating. I'm sure they were friends because she called the cops on the woman who was actually minding her own business. But that drama was loud and went on for a bit. The owner or whoever she was couldn't contain herself and kept the stupid drama going for longer than it should have gone. It's very smoky too. I'm a smoker and was glad to be somewhere that lets you smoke inside. But it was too smoky! None of the kids smoke, but it bothered me more than it did them. After a little more than an hour, we leave and the only bad thing about that night wasn't even the fight. It was the inconsistent prices and also the owners bad attitude. Saturday: The kids(kids to me, they're in their 30's) go by themselves and it's our last night. We have a fire going outside and wasn't expecting the kids back so soon. But when I saw one of the girls crying, I wanted to burn Mondays down to the ground. I was pissed because while sitting by the fire, I started reading reviews from Yelp, Google, and another site talking about how bad that Pub is and warning ppl to stay away. So here they come back stomping and mad. The one girl was so mad and humiliated that she was crying. A lot of reviews also say that the owner has corrupt cops in her pocket and sometimes they stay there because she'll call them for any reason and the customer gets thrown out for nothing. You'd think they'd remember customers that spent quite a bit the night before and left plenty of tips too. But they all said it seemed like a switch flipped from the night before. Of the 5 kids, one was a gay male, 2 black girls, 1mixed Asian/white girl, and 1 mixed Asian/black girl. They all have doctorate degrees except one and she has a bachelor's degree. So these kids aren't stupid and all have manners but came back feeling like they were being bullied by a bunch of red neck, drunk, homophobes who are friends of the owners. And it's been a while since this happened and I wasn't there, but long story short, the owner got her cop friend to escort them out because one of them questioned the bartender about the price of a drink and they got overly defensive about it and instead of being courteous, they chose to cause a lot of their own drama. I hate giving local businesses a bad review, but this place deserves 0 stars and the owner needs someone to slap some humble upside her head. She's killing her own business. I will never spend another dime in that sorry place.

I would like to say I planned the perfect date, but as some of the best things in life, this was just an impromptu visit to cap off an already great evening. Outside of being on the rooftop, the bar itself is upscale yet approachable, service was fast and friendly. Being a bit of a self engrandized home bartender I'm a bit critical when out of my home lab, but their Smoked Old Fashioned wasn't bad. ("Wasn't bad" really means very good.") While I don't love the prices and hate paying a cover charge, when you throw in live music, a great vibe, and a view, I can't really complain. The owner made an announcement that whoever tipped the band $10 would get a free drink, and since most drinks were over $15 I thought that was cool on many levels. Will definitely be back to The Rooftop!

We walked around and finally ran into a waitress who told us to sit anywhere we wished inside or outside. The only area festive was inside a closed igloo and no heaters were on outdoors which was just a tad too cool for me despite the super nice weather that day. It would have been so to sit outside but without the warmth of the heaters we headed inside. We placed our order and explained we were just there for a pre-dinner drink and wanted to check out the venue so we didn't leave our tab open but we were quickly served the fabulous taking drinks on their menu(s). The Old Fashioned was on the regular menu and the Russian was on their seasonal tabletop menu. Server was very nice and took photos for some ladies we met. The only reason I can't give them a 5 star is they claim they are big on hospitality but yet we were not acknowledged upon arrival. Many restaurants and even some retail stores have a way to ensure they say hello/welcome immediately when you enter and without a hostess - the mindset should be that the bar or wait staff have a way to immediately say hello or welcome so those who have never been feel welcomed as well as those who frequently come. It would be nice to have a more festive decor for the holidays but that didn't affect my review; just a statement to say that the entire Sugar Hill area was pumping and themed with the holiday spirit then we walked in the only area decorated was not even accessible nor was it offered as an option to enjoy.

Nice ambiance for a Gwinnett experience...The staff is very pleasant, and the Siracha wings are amazing!!! Presentation was so simple but nice... Although the setting is admittedly spectacular, acres of hilly vineyards with views of the mountain behind, and the patio was certainly fancy, the tables each with fire pits in the center providing cheery warmth, the tasting experience itself was sub-par and overpriced. It lacked the authentic feel I've seen in other wineries and seems more of a tourist destination. First thing I noticed is the shockingly high tasting fee of $35 for a flight of 4 2-ounce pours of their choice. No substitutions allowed! Either these are some spectacularly great wines or this is a major rip-off. I passed. But since I was here I decided to have a glass. I got one of their estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon. It was around $16 but since I was here. It was good, but certainly not worth the $48 they charge for a bottle. For the $35 do you get individual attention, descriptions from the bartender about the wines and about their winery? No. You get 4 labeled glasses to take back to your table. Not worth it. Find another place less touristy, more authentic. That shouldn't be hard. There are like 65 wineries in the area!

I sat at the bar and had a little light banter with the bartender who is a brother looking to be in his late 30's-early 40's. When I asked about two fruity cocktails from the menu, he flat-out said he wasn't going to make them. That alone was off-putting. Trying to move forward, I asked what he specialized in, and he said he'd "come up with something." I agreed--but very clearly stated: no rum, because my body does not react well to it. After watching him make drinks for people who ordered after me, he eventually handed me a cocktail I never even saw him prepare. That already raised a flag. I took a few sips, and sure enough--my stomach immediately started reacting the exact way it does when I've had rum. When I asked what alcohol he used, he said, "I don't even know." That response alone tells you everything you need to know. At that point, I reminded him I specifically said no rum. Instead of taking accountability, he tried to argue and backtrack. Let me be clear--when a customer tells you not to use a specific liquor, you don't ignore it, guess, or "forget." That's basic service and basic respect. This situation completely threw off my evening, as I had plans afterward and ended up feeling sick. To make matters worse, I reached out to management and received no response. That lack of accountability speaks volumes. At the end of the day, this wasn't just a bad drink--it was careless service. This staff does not prioritize customer care, and that's a problem. If you choose to visit, be very direct, pay close attention, and don't assume your requests will be respected.

A great hangout spot, but behind the scenes is really sketchy and raised a lot of red flags…read more I went here about three weeks ago looking for a job. The manager (or, I'm assuming he was a manager, because he never said he was or was not) named Chef was the person I spoke to about being hired. He told me to come back for a shadowing session on Monday to see if I was a good fit. He told me to text him to confirm the date the weekend before, and when I texted him on Saturday, as we had talked about, I received no response. I texted him again several times on Sunday, and got nothing back until late that evening, less than 24 hours from the shift we had talked about, asking if we could do it Tuesday instead. I agreed and returned the following day. Right off the bat, it was weird; he never took down any information from me aside from my name and phone number, and showed me how to clock in and then told me to go right to the woman at the bar to look over the menu. He didn't tell me anything about pay, hours, a resume, experience, tasks, or even offer me a tour of the place, which I thought was odd. For reference, my boyfriend and I have both had a lot of experience managing and owning businesses, so we understand the process, and he backed me up on this when I brought it up to him. About 30 minutes into my shift, they ended up mentioning that their host never showed up, and I told them that I had experience and if they gave me a quick training talk, I'd learn it quickly. They put me up front, but didn't give me any instructions or check in with me the entire time, while I sat up there. About halfway through my shift, the woman at the bar called me back and asked me to go to Walmart and pick up some ingredients for them with some cash she offered me. I thought it was a bit strange, especially since they didn't have any information on me yet, but I agreed. I returned and continued my shift, and still nobody checked in with me the entire four hours. Well, eventually 10 o'clock rolled around (the time we'd agreed I would stop), and yet nobody showed any signs of coming up to tap me out. And then 10:30 came, and I ended up walking up to Chef, and a gentleman I assumed was another manager, and later realized may have actually been the owner, and he was at the bar smoking a hookah and drinking while still on shift. I asked him if they were trying to get me to stay till 11 or something, or if I misunderstood the time, but before I could tell him that I needed to leave soon because I'm also a full-time medical student, he ended up telling me that I could stay, like he thought I was asking. I thought I maybe could've phrased it better, so I ended up biting my tongue and went back up to the front for another 30+ minutes. While I was on shift, I noticed many more red flags that made me uncomfortable. For example, many of the on-clock staff were at the bar drinking and smoking the whole time with the owner. At some point during the jazz band, one of the employees ordered at least two mixed drinks and sat down with all the customers to watch, and apparently got wasted from what I heard. They also told us that we aren't allowed to say no if somebody orders us a shot because it's rude, even if it made us uncomfortable. (I looked it up with my boyfriend later, and we both confirmed that working while under the influence is against federal law.) They also said that servers would need to carry your own cash around because they didn't carry cash in the register, which means that the waiters have to break their own bills and bring in at least $50 worth of cash in order to start their shift, and risk losing out on money if we can't break a bill or something. My shift finally ended at 11:20, another 20 minutes after our agreed time, only because I basically told them that I was leaving instead of asking. And that whole time, no one once said anything to me about hosting, when they wanted me to return, pay, or anything. After I left around 11:30, I heard nothing back from Chef until two days later, after he completely ignored me until then, when he asked if I could come back in an hour after he messaged me. I told him I would not be returning because of how uncomfortable and inattentive it felt, and I asked about pay, since I had worked about a 5-hour shift for free thus far, and he never replied. I didn't push because, honestly, I just wanted to walk away from what had happened from how sketchy it was, even when I was encouraged not to. For bonus, the backroom was really gross. The whole area smelled like the dishpit hadn't been cleaned in days, and the towel room was basically just cloth thrown about. I've worked in a lot of restaurants, and this was by far the most unclean and untidy one I'd seen. I won't be going back, and honestly just want to leave this behind me, and warn anyone who may apply there in the future.

We will absolutely be back to see you. The atmosphere was sooooo inviting and welcoming -- the kind of place where you instantly feel comfortable and excited to sit down and enjoy a great meal. Now let's talk about the real reason we'll be back... the FOOD. WOW. My nephew and his fiancée were visiting, so we made the drive from Atlanta up to Helen. We were completely indecisive about where to eat, but after reading the menu, we decided to give this place a try. Best decision ever -- because now we officially have a go-to spot in Helen. The steak was the absolute star of my plate -- cooked perfectly and full of flavor. My nephew also ordered the steak, and here's how I knew it was a winner: he normally adds A1 sauce to every steak he eats... but this time? Not a single drop. That alone told me everything I needed to know. Laz said he had the best burger he's ever had, and my nephew's fiancée agreed -- which says a lot! Between the phenomenal service, welcoming atmosphere, and unforgettable food, this place is a must. We will definitely be back every time we visit Helen.

There was a wait time of approximately 35 minutes or so but it was Valentine's Day too. We ordered our drinks which were really yummy except the Porch Pounder that I didn't like at all, it was sort of bitter to me. Our food came out really fast I must say and boy we were in for a treat. From the appetizer of the "Pork Belly" which was super yummy to the "Truffle Hawg" Burger I ordered with a side of "Gouda Mac N' Cheese". All of us were soo very pleased with the food selections we had chosen. Even the following day we were still talking about the food and how we wish we could've went back to this restaurant. Our family members can't wait to come back to visit so we can go back and eat there. But my partner and I will defy make a trip to it since we live in Atlanta. The place wasn't super crowded, the heater lamps were on since it was a bit chilly so it felt nice. There was no loud music so overall a very nice ambiance I must say. Please keep up the awesome job. Major kudos to the owners and the cooks in the kitchen
