Great bbq in Helen! After getting out the river we decided to stop by for lunch since they're located right across the street from Cool Rivers. We honestly had very low expectations with Helen being such a touristy town but we were def in for a treat! The staff and even locals were super sweet and friendly. My husband can make friends everywhere but one of the locals was just extra friendly this visit and made us feel very welcomed. I forget what the special was this day but we got a little of everything plus the special. They also have mini melts for the kiddos. Y'all when I say EVERYTHING was good, everything was VERY GOOD. Maybe because we had low expectations, or we were hungry, or we were influenced by the friendliness, but we were extremely surprised. Everything was seasoned well, bbq'd well, cooked well. I don't normally order chicken because of the high percentage it will be dry, but i did and the chicken was divineee. Crispy smoky skin and juicy tender meat. Very well done. Ribs, amazing. If I had to complain about anything it would be the brisket. We ordered our brisket sliced though it came sliced/shredded and could have used a little more smoke. Though still very tasty. Upon walking out the ladies up front asked how our meal was and my husband told them it was "actually good". Poor verbiage on his part, APOLOGIES!, but our expectations were so low and Flying Pig just blew us out of the park we had no words. Real Southern Style BBQ in Helen, Ga.? You betcha, yes I was a little surprised but after looking at the reviews and photos on Yelp we decided to give these guys a try. We stopped in for a late lunch so as expected this place wasn't very busy, a few customers on the outdoor covered patio and a few inside in the A/C. We were met at the counter by the super friendly and amazing Taylor - so much pressure spontaneously ordering at the counter since there is a plethora of meats and sides so she suggested we grab a few menus and find a seat while we looked over the offerings. This restaurant is a beauty and so clean and offers a great environment to grab a great meal. Finally the decision is in and we were ready to place our orders with a mix of meats so we could share - Pulled Pork (it comes without sauce) which I prefer so I can choose the sauce I like big plus in my opinion, Smoked Sliced Turkey large portions sliced thick, melt in your mouth tender, moist and one of the best smoked Turkey I've had in ages, fries, coleslaw and mac n cheese served with Texas toast and bottomless drinks. All this delicious food and I paid less than I did for breakfast a few blocks up the road, the quality and value is here. I am so glad we stopped in it was a great experience and it checks all the boxes so why go Bavarian in Helen when you can have BBQ... The food was so good and I loved the sides. The sauces were to die for and I loved the pulled pork. We ordered to go since we had a long day and wanted to be back at the time share. But it was such a cute place and we may go back and eat in at some point in time this week. This was our first Xmas in GA and we spent it in Helen - not a lot was open on Xmas day but the day after, we walked here after exploring the main thoroughfare in Helen. It's on the other side of the main street so definitely less crowds bc of that. It was an excellent choice - we all tried different items - pulled pork , rotisserie chicken and smoked carved turkey breast - all were so delicious - and wow oh wow the sweet potato waffle fries were soooo good. I really wanted to like this place! It is a small place with limited seating. It is counter service. I had the pulled pork sandwich with Cole slaw and a side of collard greens. The pork was minced nicely but the flavor was just okay. The Cole slaw was delicious. The collard greens were horrible. They were cooked good but way under seasoned. My husband had the smoked turkey and he said it was mediocre. My friend had the platter special that brought ribs and some other meat and potato salad. She too, said it was just okay. We loved this place! The prices are fair and on par with BBQ places way down south where we're from, and not the south south, but south Florida. The side portions were smaller but INCREDIBLE. The food was hot, fresh, and ALL and I mean ALL of their sauces were AMAZINGGGGGGGG. We used literally all of them, i smeared the Alabama white allll over my bun, and dipped into the sweet, and the tangy sauces... THEN we dipped in the slop. Decided we'd check the place out because I love brisket and sweet potato fries. We were not disappointed. They have some of the best brisket I've ever eaten. My girlfriend and I stopped in here in between wine tastings. The location looks like a log cabin just outside of the Germantown of Helena. The staff was very friendly. The dining room had picnic tables. There was a self-serve area for their variety of losses. We got a number of meats. We also got a sampling of all of these sauces. Nothing was bad. The pulled pork was a little dry but had some good smoke flavor. The ribs pulled from the bone pretty cleanly though could have been trimmed or had the fat rendered a little bit more. Came here for the first time on Friday to try this place out. The inside and outside seating and decor are quite lovely. It's extremely clean and upscale feeling for a bbq place. Tried their food and have some mixed reviews. The bologna burnt ends were tasty however they needed something else. I would have probably coating them in syrup or some maple with brown butter to get them sticky and coated so they're more of a sweet and smoky. The chicken burrito was quite good and was a highlight of the meal for sure and only 12$. The people I was with got the bbq pork sand which and the pork was very good However I feel the price and portion is off. Strangely enough I think they should charge 14-15$ instead of 12$ for the sandwhich and add more meat to make it a more filling meal. Definitely give this place a shot and try it out read more

We visited here on 11/9/24 about 11 am There was only about 3 tables in use. We ordered Brisket Sandwich and Mac and Cheese, and Pork BBQ sandwich with fries. The first thing we noticed was none of our food was even warm except the Mac and cheese. The Brisket was so dry we tried BBQ sauce it did not help and same for the pork sandwich but also on the bottom the meat was burned black and hard The meat was not hot jucy moist etc. We wonder did they serve us meat leftover from the prior day. $35 for the two meals both of which we left mostly uneaten. The BBQ was like that of my childhood. The smoke line was amazing. The ribs were fall off the bones. The brisket melted in your mouth. Our table got one of everything and shared some generous sides. Nothing disappointed. It's super clean and there was a tv to catch the playoff games. And they didn't even care that I was screaming for Alabama to win. Customer service was nice but we went around 6pm and ordered I got the rib plate an my bf got the sausage plate. My fries I ordered were old and greasy my ribs were a little try on top, The Mac n cheese I got as my other side was fairly decent. My bf didn't even eat his food at all sausages old a greasy and cold he said they tasted like they been sitting in old bowl of grease . I feel like maybe it was just a bad day for them. I might try again possibly one day but for now me and my bf are weary of this place.
