French dip, and side of coleslaw
Kelsey L.

This place was awesome. I got the french dip and added onions, it comes with lays chips but of course being a BBQ place I had to try the coleslaw as well. The french dip was delicious and filling. The coleslaw was very old fashioned which made it different and delicious. The service was very polite and made sure we had everything even though they were busy. I loved the seating areas the tables and bench's were made by the wood working place across the street and were done very well. Definitely will go back!!

Barbecue was alright but Brunswick stew wasn't Brunswick stew at all. Corn Lima beans potatoes in tomato sauce. It was terrible.

Great bbq in Helen!…read more After getting out the river we decided to stop by for lunch since they're located right across the street from Cool Rivers. We honestly had very low expectations with Helen being such a touristy town but we were def in for a treat! The staff and even locals were super sweet and friendly. My husband can make friends everywhere but one of the locals was just extra friendly this visit and made us feel very welcomed. I forget what the special was this day but we got a little of everything plus the special. They also have mini melts for the kiddos. Y'all when I say EVERYTHING was good, everything was VERY GOOD. Maybe because we had low expectations, or we were hungry, or we were influenced by the friendliness, but we were extremely surprised. Everything was seasoned well, bbq'd well, cooked well. I don't normally order chicken because of the high percentage it will be dry, but i did and the chicken was divineee. Crispy smoky skin and juicy tender meat. Very well done. Ribs, amazing. If I had to complain about anything it would be the brisket. We ordered our brisket sliced though it came sliced/shredded and could have used a little more smoke. Though still very tasty. Upon walking out the ladies up front asked how our meal was and my husband told them it was "actually good". Poor verbiage on his part, APOLOGIES!, but our expectations were so low and Flying Pig just blew us out of the park we had no words. Our whole experience was great and we would not hesitate to stop by, or recommend, the next time we are in town.

Outdoor seating at both ends of the building: one end under a roof, one under the sun. Indoor seating, too, but we did not avail ourselves thereof. My first time here, but found out my kids have eaten here often with the youth group.

Absolutely would recommend -- and I already have!…read more The food was amazing, but the service? Phenomenal. Thank you, Lacy! You truly made our experience memorable. We will absolutely be back to see you. The atmosphere was sooooo inviting and welcoming -- the kind of place where you instantly feel comfortable and excited to sit down and enjoy a great meal. Now let's talk about the real reason we'll be back... the FOOD. WOW. My nephew and his fiancée were visiting, so we made the drive from Atlanta up to Helen. We were completely indecisive about where to eat, but after reading the menu, we decided to give this place a try. Best decision ever -- because now we officially have a go-to spot in Helen. The steak was the absolute star of my plate -- cooked perfectly and full of flavor. My nephew also ordered the steak, and here's how I knew it was a winner: he normally adds A1 sauce to every steak he eats... but this time? Not a single drop. That alone told me everything I needed to know. Laz said he had the best burger he's ever had, and my nephew's fiancée agreed -- which says a lot! Between the phenomenal service, welcoming atmosphere, and unforgettable food, this place is a must. We will definitely be back every time we visit Helen.

There was a wait time of approximately 35 minutes or so but it was Valentine's Day too. We ordered our drinks which were really yummy except the Porch Pounder that I didn't like at all, it was sort of bitter to me. Our food came out really fast I must say and boy we were in for a treat. From the appetizer of the "Pork Belly" which was super yummy to the "Truffle Hawg" Burger I ordered with a side of "Gouda Mac N' Cheese". All of us were soo very pleased with the food selections we had chosen. Even the following day we were still talking about the food and how we wish we could've went back to this restaurant. Our family members can't wait to come back to visit so we can go back and eat there. But my partner and I will defy make a trip to it since we live in Atlanta. The place wasn't super crowded, the heater lamps were on since it was a bit chilly so it felt nice. There was no loud music so overall a very nice ambiance I must say. Please keep up the awesome job. Major kudos to the owners and the cooks in the kitchen

Bodensee Restaurant - Chicken Schnitzel and Spatzle was perfect for lunch on a very cold day. I ordered the lunch portion which was perfect.

It's enough for 4 people but the two of us went to town. I most recommend the garlic wurst and the gypsy pork for flavor but if you've never had rouladen then Bodensee's is great and authentic. As usual for me, the German sides steal the show. The purple cabbage, spatzele, and potato salad were perfect. The Erdinger Dunkle and francshicanner (sp?) were excellent drink pairings. I took a picture of the huge tray that came out to the neighboring table as well as our sampler on our table. Service was quick, thorough, and helpful for any questions. Definitely going here for German again!

What was once a quaint spot with outstanding service and mouthwatering food now feels like just another restaurant. The atmosphere was fine and the service was still good, but the food didn't live up to our previous experience. We both ordered schnitzel--mine with Jäger gravy and my wife's with Gypsy gravy. Mine was decent, but hers was noticeably different from what she remembered. She had really been looking forward to it and ended up quite disappointed. It wasn't a bad meal, but it definitely didn't recapture what made our first visit so memorable.

We ended up seeking it out b/c we wanted to watch college football. They have solid indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is right by the river. On the indoor side you have a very small bar but plenty of TVs around the establishment. The food is fine but nothing terribly special. But they do have a fair amount of beer on tap. The overall experience is solid. We were able to watch football, eat and drink beer. I suspect I will end up back here the next time I visit Helen. I'd suggest swinging by if you get the chance.

The burger was so dry it could have been made of dust. I ate about half of it, because I'm a man, and that's what we do...maybe it's dry on the outside, maybe the next bite is acceptable...nope not this time. My girlfriend had the Ruben. Tasted like nothing. You'd think you can't mess up a Reuben. Well, I was wrong. Meat tastes like newspaper. Also got some jalapenos poppers. Also gross. I've had frozen ones that are better. Only edible things were the pickle and ranch dressing. It's a shame because the ambience is SICK. The staff seemed to know it was bad. Don't go here
