Honestly, I'm having a rough time with the bad reviews but as a native New Yorker who is a southern transplant, maybe I'm missing something. The turkey platter was delicious, I loved the collards and the Mac and cheese - in my opinion - was pretty great. The portion was healthy, included a drink and for $16 to end up with leftovers besides is right up my alley. My mom got the bbq salad with chopped chicken and was thrilled with both the portion and quality. $10 and she only got through half of it! Nice service, great prices and at least the meats we had - and understanding the poultry is a different thing than your pork or beefy bits - were delicious. read more

Brisket was dryer than an Andrew Tate fan's DMs. I think buddy pulled it off a re-tread tire. The Mac & Cheese was exquisitely mixed 10 tablespoons of black pepper and your favorite Alfredo from the jar. Them greens gonna give me gas and I just know it. Toast was well toasted. read more

I stopped by North GA BBQ for lunch on a Sunday. This wasn't my first visit, either. I've eaten here several times over the years because I keep hoping it'll finally click. Unfortunately, after this visit, I'm left with the same conclusion I've had before: they just can't seem to get it right. The service isn't bad enough to complain about, but it isn't memorable either. It's the kind of service where everyone does their job, but nobody makes you feel like they're glad you came. Maybe that's the expectation at a barbecue joint, but it would be nice to leave feeling like there was something worth remembering besides the receipt. The real issue is the food. I'm a brisket person, so that's usually my measuring stick for a BBQ restaurant. Unfortunately, the brisket here consistently reminds me less of smoked brisket and more of the pot roast your mom left in the crock pot all day. That's not necessarily a bad meal... it's just not what I'm paying BBQ prices for. The last time I visited, the brisket was dry, lean, and lacking much flavor. Today was somehow both better and exactly the same. About half of my brisket sandwich was actually pretty good--some fat, some tenderness, the kind of bite that makes you think, "Finally, here we go." Then the other half showed up and reminded me why I keep leaving disappointed. It's almost impressive how consistently inconsistent they are. I've had mixed experiences with the sides before, so this time I figured I'd play it safe and order fries. Surely fries are the one thing that can't go sideways. Apparently, I was feeling optimistic. The seasoning was actually a pleasant surprise, but the cook was all over the place. Some fries were crispy, some were undercooked, and somehow they all came from the same basket. Fries aren't exactly culinary gymnastics, yet they managed to turn them into a guessing game. At these prices, inconsistency shouldn't be the signature flavor. I'll end on a positive note: the sauces are genuinely good. They add flavor, variety, and are probably doing more heavy lifting than they should have to. Unfortunately, good sauce can complement good barbecue--it can't replace it. I genuinely want to like this place because good local BBQ is worth supporting. But after several visits over the years, "maybe next time" is starting to feel less like optimism and more like the restaurant's business model. read more

I stayed the week down in Dahlonega,GA. and I wanted some BBQ. I ordered the pig melt and the brisket sandwich with collards and baked beans! The pig melt was really good! Texas toast, cheese, pulled pork cooked right...how can you go wrong? The brisket was tender, smoked, and a great fat to meat ratio! But for me the star of the show was the baked beans! Those were some of the best baked beans I've ever had! I wish I'd have ordered 2 servings!! I've had BBQ from the Carolina's to Kansas City to Memphis and these folks are right up there! The staff were wonderful, and took good care of me! I would most definitely recommend anyone in that neck of the woods to stop in!! You won't be sorry!! read more

This place was absolutely scrumptious! Everyone that we encountered here was kind and professional. They help with their bbq sauce options while you are ordering too. I went with the sweeter bbq. My family and I shared a bite of our sides so we could all try them. The potato salad is 1000/10! Absolutely delicious; I can't recommend it enough! There is indoor and outdoor seating. read more

I will say this was some of the juiciest and yummy pork I've had. First of all we ordered a Pig Melt! This is the signature meal. They take Texas toast, cheese and chopped pork and grill it. My only complaint was that it was barely grilled and I expected more like a grilled cheese sandwich. The pork was chopped instead of shredded or pulled and again it was yummy. We used the sweet barbecue sauce so we had sweet and savory. You do order at the counter but then they do bring your meal out. Service with a smile by all staff. The person in front of us was a bit rude and asked how quick it will be ready, I loved the cashiers response. " It will take a little longer than shortly, but we'll get it to you as soon as possible. No pics of foodbecause it looked so yummy I just forgot! read more

This used to be some of the best BBQ in Georgia. I was very disappointed on my last visit. Terrible service. No condiments. The brisket was 40 to 50% fat. Too expensive for what you getI will never eat here again. It seems like they're getting ready to close down. Terrible! read more

I cannot recommend. Went today at 3pm for a late lunch, early dinner. They were out of brisket, turkey, and potato salad. We ordered a pork plate with Mac and cheese and Cole slaw. Also the quarter chicken leg plate with Cole slaw and fries. The plates come with a piece of "Texas toast". The Cole slaw was so salty it was inedible. The fries were okay but also extremely salty. My husband states the pulled pork was just okay. It did not have a smoked flavor that you would expect from bbq. The chicken was grilled nicely but also did not taste smoked. The "Texas toast" is a simple piece of sliced white bread that is probably from a sale loaf at Kroger or Ingles. The service was terrible. They do nothing for you and have that " I really don't want to be here attitude."You purchase at the counter and they bring it to your table. You get your own beverages. They did not provide utensils. We had to ask since the kiosk was not stocked. The two college employees spent the entire time at the register scrolling on their phones. We needed to go up to the counter to get a to go box. Unfortunately you pay when you order your food and the infamous tip screen comes up before you can move further to end the transaction. If we had known how bad this experience would be I would not leave a tip. I agree with one reviewer who states it seems as if this place is closing for good soon and they don't care. Too bad, Dahlonega is such a beautiful town and deserves better. read more

This was by far the worst barbecue and Mac n cheese I have ever eaten. The Mac n cheese is essentially store bought Alfredo sauce that has been diluted with water to have zero flavor. The pork was insanely fatty and dry with no flavor. If you have the option to eat anywhere else you should. read more

This location is right in Town Square, when your out and about walking around, the BBQ smell is in the air Why the maybe rating ? Our group ordered a few of the Piggy Melt sandwiches and loved them along with coleslaw and baked beans. I ordered the 3 meat combo and the pulled pork was moist and had excellent flavor, the brisket was done to perfection, however the Turkey was less than stellar, it was dry and seemed aged in a sense. The baked beans are really good and full of flavor and the Mac-n-cheese was killer Service was friendly and quick with southern charm, the inside had such a great bbq smell with plenty of seating. I do recommend having a quick bite here but avoid the Turkey read more

Excellent food excellent service. The staff were more than accommodating with my food, allergies and made sure that nothing I ordered would contain either onions or garlic. I had the brisket with coleslaw and baked beans. Also their vinegar, hot sauce, beautifully cooked. The sauce was perfect. The baked beans are seasoned with bell peppers in them, which I had never had and it added that little bit of something that makes it special. My husband had the barbecue sandwich and potatoe salad he said it was wonderful as well. I couldn't taste the potato salad because it has onions in it but that's OK. We both drank tea. I had the unsweetened. They had plenty of lemons wedges there and David had the sweet and it was very good as well. The ambience is nothing fancy you order at the register get your own drinks and they bring it out to you but it's a very comfortable setting for families or date nights or anything you like My husband and I met in the barbecue restaurant in North Carolina where I was working so we love trying new places and writing reviews when these places are great. We have eaten here many times. We came this 4 th of July and had a barbecue pork sandwich. Great sandwich with plenty of meat!

This place has the fattiest and the toughest brisket I've ever had. The slaw was all black pepper. I like pepper but damn that's all you taste. The baked beans were fresh out a can of Van Camps and taste just like straight pork and beans. The crinkle cut fries was the best thing on the plate. I generally order any BBQ joints brisket because I don't make it myself at home and I'm not very good at it and neither are these guys. read more

Oh my goodness where do I start? The very worst restaurant experience in my life up to this point. All sides (except for my fries) had to be many days old. I mean Cole slaw had zero juice. Mac'n'cheese? You can't even call it that. Shell pasta that was mush in a white sauce so drippy I was amazed they even served it. Now let's talk bbq. When you have this (from an actual bbq place) you expect it to have a smoked flavor which it did not. No flavor at all and such fatty meat I didn't even eat mine. Stay away from Run read more

Ordered the "Pig Melt" which is supposed to be a grilled cheese with chopped pork inside. The pork was good, but when I order a "grilled cheese" I expect there to be a good amount of melted cheese in it. In the photos one can observe there was a slice of American cheese that wasn't melted. I am not sure why it wasn't melted because my bread was burned on the outside as illustrated in the additional picture provided. The staff was nice. The floors were so sticky that shoes were sticking and one could hear every person's shoes making noise as they walked thru the dining room. Not sure if we would visit next time we are in Dahlonega. read more

An absolute steal for what we got with a family pack! We called ahead and ordered what was a pound of pork, one quart side of collards, one pint of baked beans, one pint of tots and one bbq sauce (we chose tangy), and the order was remarkably reasonable for the quality and quantity of food that we received! It was ready right when we walked in to pick it up and it was hot and fresh. Only small complaint is maybe offer several BBQ sauces in smaller containers rather than one out of a choice of 6 or 7 different kinds in a large container. I would've liked to have had a variety and not just a lot of one that we didn't need nearly that much of. The collards were loaded with little surprising pockets of pork pieces! I could've made a meal out of them alone! The tots were great. Baked beans are little on the goopy sweet side for my taste. The service I received when placing the order over the phone was pleasant, and the restaurant's ambiance would've been nice for a meal out; however, we elected to eat in at the rental where we were staying for the weekend. I love a good BBQ joint and N GA didn't disappoint. read more

Got the chopped chicken, brisket, and BBQ pork. Came with the three meats, two sides (we picked Mac and cheese + baked beans) and a slice of Texas toast for $25. Got the Sweet and Tangy BBQ sauce options, but there were many to choose from. This "Combo Platter" was plenty for two people to share. Everything tasted great. The brisket was a tad dry and the Diet Coke was flatter than I would like, but those are my only two grievances. All the staff was very friendly and there was a great outdoor patio to sit (dogs were welcome!) Would return next time I'm in the area! Edited to add: many people at our table claimed the mac and cheese was in the top 10 they've ever had. I didn't have any, but everyone else raved about it! read more

You can smell this place from a mile away! We were going to stop at a bar and grill but they get you with the smell. The line had about 12 people and took 40 min to get up front. Not sure the lady knew what she was doing or if people were just taking long to order. She was not the friendliest but everyone else was! We order the patty melt and that was so good. Almost like a loaded grilled cheese and toasted perfectly. I got the bbq salad and needed help finishing. The bbq ranch dressing was to die for!!! Highly recommend getting the salad it had so much meat on it. For sides Brunswick stew was ok a little too salty as well as the collards they were saltier than your usual. The Mac and cheese and baked beans were the gold mine! Parking here is difficult we found parking few streets away and it was busy. Seems like a touristy place to go so you'll see a lot of people! read more

Was in Dahlonega to take an exam, and after the exam was over I had a ravenous appetite. I was in the mood for BBQ and this place came up and was rated great. I ordered the Pig Melt with a side of Macaroni and cheese and Coleslaw as well as Banana Pudding. The food was honestly so boring and bland. The sandwich was a typically BBQ sandwich nothing remarkable about it. The coleslaw and Mac and cheese were so boring I couldn't even finish it. Both had very little taste. I usually put coleslaw on my BBQ sandwich but I didn't even both this time. The best part of the meal was the banana pudding, it was actually pretty good. Overall not too impressed. Probably won't be back. You're welcome! read more

Came here for lunch 12:30 and they're out of ribs and brisket. How does a bar b q place run out of bar b q.

In spite of some bad reviews on here we decided to give this place a try. The decision was made easier by the fact that there was a lot of rain and our hotel was across the street. Nevertheless, the service was first rate, shout out to Rhett, and the food was excellent. I had the chopped chicken and the wife had the pork plate. All was great! Service was okay, food was awful. We eat here once every few months, and this time we probably won't be back. The fried chicken was the worst thing i've ever ate, the barbecue was dry & almost white from no color. The sauces were so thin they ran off the chicken/barbecue. There was no a/c inside so you're just sweating as soon as you walk in. read more

We frankly can't understand some of the reviews that have been posted here. This is our third trip here and the food is always delicious. Absolutely delicious! If you're in dahlonega you really have to try this place. You order at the counter and they bring the food your table. Go ahead and order banana pudding!! I had the pork plate with baked beans and Mac & cheese. The Mac and cheese was a white cheese which I didn't expect but it was delicious and creamy. The baked beans had some shredded meat in them and were very good. The pork was amazing and the serving was more than I probably needed but I ate it all anyway. I went with the hot BBQ sauce which actually had a bit of a kick. Now the most important part, the banana pudding!!! It was top notch!!! Actual custard and not some jello pudding mix. read more

We wanted to try this place out, but when we walked in behind another customer to order, the young man taking orders had that customer move around the register. He commenced taking orders from people who had entered after we had. We walked out, since this restaurant apparently doesn't want our business. read more

The bbq is chunked not pulled. My daughter had to pull out the fat (note a small pile of it on the side of the plate in one of our pictures). She said the bbq sandwich from Cookout is better than here. Chicken sandwich was okay, not very flavorful. The fries are the best part of the meal. Onion rings were okay. And....the coleslaw is gross. We could not place the flavor, maybe mayo and vinegar? Suggestion - throw some sugar in there!
