Chicken sandwich
Franklin F.

Decent BBQ establishment. BBQ, chicken, and ribs were all a bit dry. Chicken and ribs were both overcooked. The selection of BBQ sauce was just ok, not much variety offered. Coleslaw, baked beans and fries were all pretty good. Portions are a good amount for the price. Sweet tea was not very sweet at all and tasted like half & half tea. The sandwich bun on the side is a waste and should only be offered if wanted as it's not really a side bread. Hushpuppies would be a good add to the menu.

Evidence if my first visit there.

But one thing I fail to mention is the freaking AWESOME service I received. They dont know me from Adam and treated me as if I was a best friend. Most places give good service due to poor food quality. I was preparing myself for the worst. I was too deep in traffic to go back. Now I am sitting at home wanting more wings, craving those wings, mad cause I am out of wings. What am I to do now. see if I go back they will recognize me and I'll look greedy. Help Yelp!!!! What do I do?

Came here while I was in the area on lunch break with a co-worker who was looking for bbq and yelp led us to Johnny's. It's a small little place that was packed around 1pm on a weekday. Add the nice smell of smoke and I was starting to get my hopes up! They had a lunch special going on, which comes with a pulled pork sandwich, a side of fries and a drink for $7.71, and that's what I got. In addition, I got a 4 oz cup of Brunswick stew, for $1.35 They were generous with the pulled (more like chopped) pork, because as you bite into it, meat falls out of the sides of the sandwich. The meat itself didn't have much in the way of flavor, and they seemed to rely on their sauces to be their flavor saver, which if you like them, are great. To me, the sauce was nothing special, and so the sandwich was simply okay. They have a yellow bottle on the table, which is your sweeter bbq sauce, and then at the condiment station they have more vinegar based sauces if that's you're type of bbq. The french fries, which are crinkle cut, were seasoned with salt, and were also simply okay to me, a little on the hard side, and I didn't finish them. I'm a pretty harsh critic of Brunswick stew, because I love it so much, but what I tried really wasn't good at all. At least not to me. I did try to save it with a mix of sauces but at the end, I only had a couple of spoonfuls and that was enough for me. Service was lightning fast, so fast that you just about get your order as you pay, and customer service was nice. There are both booths and tables enough to seat about 30 people or so comfortably. Parking was not a problem, as this is a private lot, and since Cleveland Hwy is not a busy road, getting in and out isn't a big deal. I was going to give Johnny's BBQ at least 3 stars, because prices were cheap and service was friendly, but while that's true, the only thing I finished is the sandwich. I know bbq is pretty subjective for what's good, and I get that, but for my experience, i've definitely had better.

BBQ is good! Brunswick stew is my favorite. Most desserts are homemade. Staff is very friendly.

Driest BBQ in the South. Meat always looks bleached, and can only be choked down if you drown it in sauce

Love this BBQ! Especially the vinegar sauce! I recommend the pulled pork sandwich. The stew isn't bad but a little on the thick side.

Let's start with the appetizers. The hush puppies are a must. They come with a hot honey glaze on top, and that combo is ridiculously good. Sweet, crispy, and just packed with flavor. The fried okra was something I've never had before. No breading--just split in half and fried as-is. Super unique and honestly really good. If you like okra, you've gotta try it this way. For sandwiches, my wife had the pig melt, which is their take on a pulled pork sandwich on Texas toast. The pork was tender, juicy, and stacked nicely, definitely a solid choice. I had the BBQuban, their BBQ twist on a Cuban sandwich, and it was excellent. Great flavor, well put together, and something a little different from the usual. The meats across the board were done right. The turkey was tender and served in big, thick slices. The brisket had a good bark and paired well with their BBQ sauce. Sides were all solid. The mac and cheese was creamy (I added a little salt and it was perfect for me), baked beans were flavorful, and the collard greens were on point. And the banana pudding... easily one of the best I've had in the North Georgia area. If you're going here, don't skip it. The space itself is fun with a bar area, and the service was great. Everyone was friendly, and the food came out fast. Parking is available right out front, but just make sure you scan the code and register your tag so you don't get ticketed. You can also park in nearby decks if you prefer. Overall, this is a strong BBQ spot in Gainesville. Great variety, solid execution, and definitely worth checking out.

There was an aura in the air when we got here, i swear im not being dramatic. The smell of the food hit us walking up, but it wasnt over-powering...it was just the right "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" amount. Our waiter was attentive and consisent with checking on us and asking about quality - while answering other tables which im sure is difficult. I wasnt able to quite catch his name - but that is on our part since we didnt let him know we hadn't heard when he did say his name. The other waiter that brought out the food was also kind. The food was of course delicious, unsuprising since the other reveiws had already raved so much to the point it was honestly kind of expected. The steaks on both plates had been cooked to perfection - my husband and I are grateful to the chef that unknowingly gave us such a wonderful anniversary dinner. The Mozzerella Mac & Cheese had such depth of favor. The cheese though... we are absolutely suspecting the chef of using gouda! Smokey and rich in flavor - thoroughly creamy & cheesy with such consistent flavoring... we loved it. The fries were homemade and delicous, not much to say besides the fact they didnt taste of chemical preservatives whatsoever. In fact, I think at one point both our stomach thanked us for eating this wonderful food. My drinks were delicious, we got the Georgia Mule and then the margarita that is also on the drink menu. Both were delicious but the Georgia Mule was refreshing! Hands down the best we have ever tried. The weather, sun, and love of my life definetely played a part of this reveiw - I must be honest of my bias. The band that was playing on 03/24/2026 was great. If I could compare the vocalist I would say they sound exactly that of the singer "Hozier". Thank you to everyone that played a role in the experience.

I like the clear cocktail buckets vs the white ones they used to have. I can now see my drink when taking a pic (although they could of filled it up). The voodoo juice is always great. I tried a paloma, but had to send it back because it was so bad (sour old taste). My friend lined the mango Margarita, but I thought it was way too sweet. I miss the chairs out on the grass area to just sip a cocktail. They are all gone & there is only a dog house in that area now. The patio is all covered now. The tables in semi sun with the awning is gone too (husband likes this, but I'm a sun person) . The fried green tomatoes were delicious!! My husband didn't like the pimento cheese on them because they are soggy by the time you get to the bottom, but the rest of us loved them. The brisket Philly was good (& greasy if that isn't your thing). The fish tales & fries are always a favorite! They give a large portion of fish & they are always so fresh & tender. They look like they added items to menu (wings & build your own burger) Great service lije always!
