Nice counter folks. Dirty, especially far right as you enter some scary refrigerated areas. Bbq sauce overly sweet, great flavor. Meat was clearly from a steam table. Any outside bark had been steamed into soft bits. Cheapest, weakest bun possible, not toasted or grilled, didn't hold up to the grease and liquids that dropped out of the meat. Brunswick looked good visually, but tasted like paprika or chili powder vinegar water. Runny, simply unpleasant to eat. Macaroni and cheese has some green herb all in it. Drove past this place on the way to a tournament and it smelled i was determined to get some during our break between games. I got two chicken plates with Mac and cheese and collards, a leg quarter with potato salad and collards, and a half rack of baby back ribs. The price wasn't bad at all. Here we are back to Lake Lanier. 2 years ago we visited Smoking Mike's Meats and we had a feast. Every time we drive by that smoking trailer it reminds us of that wonderful feast. We just couldn't stay away any longer and stopped to get a bountiful of smoking BBQ meats today. A Rib plate with beans and slaw, a chicken plate with beans and collard greens, a pulled pork sandwich, 2 hot links and 2 peach cobblers for dessert. Yes it has to be all packed to go as this little corner place has no seating. Ordering is easy as Smoking Mike's hires eager to help young ones and they know what they are doing. I thought I saw Mike himself tending to matters in the back kitchen. It was a real pleasure to open our containers full of BBQ goodness. Every side that came with the plates were perfectly matched. The BBQ sauce that comes with the orders are a sweet kick to each bite of rib or chicken. I'll save the pulled pork for later and I just had a great savory bite of the hot link. Time for dessert. First time visit on the day before the 4th of July holiday & they were fully stocked up on the meats at mid day except the brisket burnt ends were not ready yet. So ... Took home a rack of ribs, potato casserole & a couple of smoked chicken thighs. Flavor, smoke & bark was excellent on the Ribs but they were far from tender or falling off the bone succulent. Chicken thighs nicely cooked & were really meaty with lite smoke. Potato casserole very good. Almost fell prey to eyes bigger than my stomach syndrome but fortunately stopped short of bringing home some awesome looking bbq pork belly. I will go back to try the ribs again but not on a holiday week when cooking in quantity may impact cooking perfection. This was a very disappointing experience for me, the food was very low quality. It tasted watery, barely smoked, and the Brunswick stew was like water. My family even got sick from it. We read about Mike's in a recent edition of the local paper. Drove 9 miles to try it out. Outstanding! Takeout only but that's OK. Quantities are HUGE - especially given the price. Brisket was excellent, smokey but not overpowering, juicy, great rub. BBQ Chicken was also really good. Brunswick stew was great with lots of meat and other ingredients but warning - it will light your mouth on fire - which I like but just be ready for it :-). Twice baked potato casserole was a pleasant suprise. Very cheezie. My wife loved the slaw - she hates raw onions and their slaw is mostly just cabbage with a great sauce. Honest review for this business: This is a "local" BBQ restaurant located near Gainesville/Dawson County. Firstly, their phone number listed is useless, you will never be able to call ahead or place an order. Secondly, as a local resident I was a frequent customer to this place until two recent encounters. The first encounter was when I placed a Chicken plate with mac & cheese along with mash potatoes. When I eventually ate the meal, I found a large piece of metal within the chicken. Therefore I called the business multiple times, but no one ever answered. Next, I gave Smokin Mikes one last try recently but it was by far the worst encounter I've had at a business. The workers there are generally nice and helpful except for the owner, Mike. This individual was one of the rudest subjects I have ever encountered at a business. This owner was cussing me out, dropping "F" bombs, in front of other customers because of an incident that occurred. It seems like he is not well and I hope he seeks help. This place is a hidden gem. I have heard about this place online and don't normally drive the place. But I finally decided to go with my husband. This place is really a pick up and go so please dont think of coming and staying for a meal and get service. What you will come for is some amazing BBQ. We tried the brisket, ribs, baked potato casserole, baked beans, and Mac and cheese. To be honest i normally do not eat ribs since I normally dont like eating anything off the bone. Yes I am that person who wants boneless wings and yes I know bones give flavor. These ribs though were so good I would order them and eat them, yes on the bone. The brisket I did not care for. It was very dry , not very fatty for brisket and seemed tough almost overcooked. It may have been an off day. The beans were amazing and had so much flavor. Again normally I am not a baked beans person for I find people make them overly sweet, but these were perfect and would get again. The Mac and cheese was wonderful. Not too cheesy, had some spices in it for flavor and the noodles were not overcooked and gummy. You know what i mean when those noodles turn to a glob covered in cheese it is all just a soft mess. The baked potato casserole was okay. I found it dry and just needing some moisture be it with either more cheese, sour cream or some butter. Don't think I would get it again and for the other sides were so much better. They do have desserts, which we didn't get, but looked amazing and will try next time. Be aware the parking lot is small and many potholes so be cautious when pulling in. You will see the smoker with the name on it and that your marker that your at the right place.
