Paul's Ace feels much more like a Mom and Pop shop than a big chain. I've gone in with questions about all sorts of varied things and have always walked away with a solid answer and money left in my pocket. I don't feel like I'm ever being up sold or nickel and dimed. The staff is welcoming, the ladies call be "hun" a lot and they have a good selection for their size. I needed a screw for an office chair- I brought the chair with me - within 20 seconds a team member already had what he new I needed. His guess was spot on! I only had cards to pay with since I'd just given all my change to a homeless fellow. They gave me the 25 cent strew for free! I was out of there in less than 2 minutes. read more

On three separate occasions it took 10-15 for the staff to bring me boxes "from the back" --one time I was in a rush and even paid for the boxes, waited for them, and got a refund for my purchase before they were even out with my boxes. I have had hit and miss service at this location in the past, but it seems like they are more on top of their game. You can literally walk in here with any kind of project in mind and they can help you. We also came in here for light bulbs, and an associate took the time to explain all the different types of bulbs and helped us pick out the type that we needed. I smashed a picture frame by accident one time, and since they cut glass too I was able to save my picture. It's pretty nice to walk into a hardware store and not have to walk a couple of football fields just to get what you need. There's not much walking to do if they show you exactly where an item is. They usually have pretty good sales around Thanksgiving and Christmas, especially for Black Friday. read more

Small hardware store that is definitely one of those places that is part of the community versus a big box store like a Lowe's - in general it has about everything one needs to for lawn and home maintenance and it has a personal feel that you won't get from a larger location. read more

I have liked all the Ace Hardware stores I have been to and this one is definitely up to par. I went in with a tricky question and several different staff members were eager to help. Kevin especially spent a long time brainstorming ideas and suggesting new things. Everyone is very friendly and they have a good selection of the usual hardware stuff. Definitely a smaller home repair place but it's in the neighborhood and very convenient. They have just enough. Prices are pretty good too.

Wow, been going to this place for over 20 years and the arrogance is blinding, from top to bottom. At this point, it's worth the extra two miles to go to Home Depot. Convenience is obviously a plus, but to pay a premium and deal with a ration S_ _t , from a couple of the older floor people just isn't worth it anymore. Miss the old days when Wayne was there, true gentleman! Thank goodness Brad has held on as long as he has since I've learned from other employees that Paul's doesn't treat their employees very well. He has never treated his employees well and had decriminated many employees through the years he's been a store manager! Long time customer of this location.. First, the staff as a whole delivers amazing customer service consistently, friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. If you need help with something, they can show you exactly where the item is, they also go above and beyond in education if needed about your project, how to fix or repair something around the house, etc... Store is kept clean, well organized, any always stocked for what you need. It's clear that from management, employees on the floor, contracting desk, rental department, the register on your wayout, the staff just "CARES". Ace has become a large corporation over the years for these reasons, yet retained the mom and pop experience. Refreshing to walk into this location with a "Hello" and "Can I help you find something?". Its welcoming and refreshing feeling in today's society. Helpful Hardware Folks is accurate at this location. After getting a new battery for my truck's key fob, it knew it was sending a signal but still wouldn't lock or unlock my truck. I entered Paul's Ace Hardware to see if they could help with programming. After being greeted at the door with a friendly hello from the cashier, I spoke to Aumon. He listened generously and recommended I speak with Brad. He noted Brad was busy, so he took my name and telephone number and stated I would receive a call. In less than five minutes, I did. Brad and I discussed the issue and he believed it was the "skin" of the fob causing the issue. He offered to take a look at it at no cost to see if we should order a new skin or fob. I returned to his location and to my surprise, it turned out to be a simple matter of dirt build-up inside the fob from years of use. Brad saved me $170 worst case (new fob) $20 best case (new skin) simply by being kind and helpful. I'll be a regular customer from now on. Thank you! read more

I went in to return a weed whacker I bought a year ago. It stopped trimming the weeds in the crevices of the sidewalk. I have never had issues with going into an Ace Hardware and being treated with respect and an equal to a man in doing it yourself projects. On this occasion it was shocking two men came to help me with the return I explained the problem and I was questioned at length as to my problem and asked some very appalling questions as simple as "Did you put line in the spool?" I was taken aback and said "Yes" very definitively. The weed whacker obviously looked as if it had been used. I was so shocked as to the sexist treatment I was receiving I simply said "I wanted to return the weed whacker." Before I lost my temper as to being treated like I didn't know what I was talking about. I am a woman in 2013 who does do stuff around the house besides cooking, cleaning and bearing children. One of the individuals seemed to forget that we are in the 21st century and woman do the same jobs as a man around the house. His mindset was that it was 1950s and we should be in the kitchen baking a cake for the next PTA meeting. Woman it is plain and simple some of their employees are sexist and women should be in the kitchen cooking their dinner, cleaning their house and doing their laundry. I am more than that in my household as many woman are now a days. Women if you wish to go to Ace and be treated like Barbie by all means go but I suggest go to Lowes or Home Depot you will treated with the upmost respect and an equal counterpart to a man. read more

I called the Paul's Ace Hardware store on Broadway Road in Tempe and spoke with Don about a roofing product called Ames Blue Max liquid rubber in comparison to other products. After seven minutes into the conversation, Don indicated he had to respond to another customer. Since I still had questions, Don promised to return the call. Two hours passed without a phone call so I contacted the store again. Unfortunately, Don had gone to lunch. I left my call back number, again. Upon returning from lunch, Don called, but he was rude. I asked him if he had time to talk and he said, "Yes, but probably not for half-an-hour." Immediately, I knew that Don didn't want to extend our conversation. As a result, I thanked him for his assistance and ended our phone call. My questions remained unanswered. It should be noted that, in the near future, I intend to spend more than $4,000 on roofing materials.
