I love coming to this ANY ACE and this one is my backup. Not quite as close but it's still fairly close to my house, the customer service is always amazing, they usually have anything I'm looking for, and the prices are almost always in line if you consider the convenience of coming here as apposed to the big box stores. The nut and bolt section is especially helpful because they carry almost everything. They DEFINITELY carry more of the obscure stuff that you just can't find at other places. Ace really is the place. This is a bit like hardware stores used to be like, and the staff actually know about the products they sell. I've also found that they have some items in stock, which can be otherwise difficult to find. Their nut and bolt section is near legendary, with just about any type of fastener I've needed for my projects (including some really oddball sized bolts). They also sell many different types of wire by the foot, small metal profiles and tubes (for hobbyists), and even motor run capacitors, which can really be a lifesaver on a hot weekend when an AC unit goes out. For anyone who's even a little bit handy, Valley Ace is a great place to get the stuff that may otherwise need to be ordered, or require a drive to a specialty supply house. read more

Love that they have a great selection of a wide variety of things, with various sales to keep pricing competitive. I went into the store to see if I could get some suggestions on how to repair a window that someone threw a rock and cracked it. The young man that I asked was impatient and tried to refer me over to a glass company. I told him I was a senior citizen and on a fixed income, all I was looking for to repair the glass myself. Something simple. I told I did not have the $600-$800 to replace the glass, and he just looked at me as if I was bothering him. I was not asking him to fix it for me. He snapped at me and said, well use this product and just turned around and walked away. Does it hurt people to be kind and patient? I spoke to the manager, and I guess he was not in the mood to talk. I thought I don't want any problems and thought I will just go to Lowes. This Ace Hardware has a consistently GREAT customer service reputation. I have been coming here for over the past 10 years. A great neighborhood hardware store with great value that you don't get from the BIG BOX stores. They pack in a good selection of outdoor, home, and gardening items. I primarily come in when I need to replace a small nut or screw or some other small consumable since they have a great selection and price. The employees always ask if I need help with anything and check out is always speedy with no problems. They tried charging my dad $35 for 6 feet of vinyl tubing that should be 0.99 / ft. Save yourself the argument and gas. Go to a more honest hardware store. The assistant manager even stood by the $5.99 /ft they wanted to charge my dad. We literally went to a different ace hardware and paid less than $8. I've been coming here since 1994 when I moved to Tempe. Since, I have moved to Chandler, back to Tempe and now on Dobson and Baseline. Any small Hardware item I need, I will always come here first. Always. Weed killer, chlorine, bolts, screws, air filters etc. Ace is the first place I will stop. BUT...... You put those donation people in front of the store and I will drive off, right to Lowes or H.D. The last thing I want is to be harassed going in and going out. I like the vibe at this Ace Hardware. It still retains that neighborhood hardware store feel that you don't get from neighboring behemoth stores Lowe's and Home Depot. They pack in a good selection of outdoor, home, and gardening items. We came in here primarily because they had a sale on lump charcoal (They carry Cowboy lump charcoal here) and a 25% off coupon from a mailer. In addition to the lump charcoal they had a wide selection of wood pellets, BBQ accessories, and charcoal briquettes. I have frequented this Ace Hardware shop off and on since the late seventies. Each visit is different. Sometimes I know exactly what I require. Other times I am unsure of my precise needs. In this situation, I typically lack the hardware language to describe exactly what I require. This is where it gets tricky. A customer service test of sorts. I will bring pictures to assist dialogue and expedite the process. And no one like being played or belittled for their ignorance. On multiple occasions this is exactly what happened. And, my reaction is leaving the store more frustrated than when I walked in. Conversely, I have been serviced successfully by some diligent, creative employees on other occassions. Today I had Truly the worst experience in an Ace hardware I've ever had. First there were at least 3 aisle with no price tags or shelf tags whatsoever. This is against AZ state law. I've taken pics and will be submitting them to the state. When I pointed it out to the cashier she said oh they are putting that stuff on the shelves now you should have noticed the open boxes etc on the floor. Well I have the pics no open boxes on the floor all the shelves were stocked in the area with NO empty spaces. So I don't buy it the lame excuse. The place is severely understaffed with people that have no clue what customer service is like. Even the manager Dave had terrible customer service skills. I spent approx 55 min in the store, 50 min was spent waiting to get help. Two different times after waiting patiently another person would come up and get helped before me. I never did get what I needed. When I asked for the corporate customer service phone number they didn't know it. When they looked it up they transposed 2 numbers (this number was repeated on the intercom at least 3 times with the numbers transposed... I suspect it was the manager doing this as he already knew I was pissed off. Did I cuss anyone out? No did I want to yes. How stupid can you be to help the person that walks up to you and not help the person waiting so long to be helped. You know they say people experiencing stuff like this will tell 10 people of the poor service. I'm telling way more than 10 and the day isn't even over yet. Don't go to this location. Go to Paul's ace on broadway. I was in and out in 15 min or less with everything I needed. And after telling them a little of what I experience without telling the location...they correctly guessed the location saying they hear complaints of that store all the time. read more

Valley Ace Hardware 1895 e Basline ste Went to purchase a patio umbrella for 29.99. The sign for 29.99 first located on the red umbrella next to striped one. I went to pay for it and the cashier states that's not on sale and moved the 29.99 down to the brown umbrella as shown in the picture. I asked for the mgr and some guy representing the store advise that Striped umbrellas was not sale. He verified that all the umbrellas were there as the photo shows. I have notified the Az Attorney General office concerning the incident. I have been shopping at this Ace hardware since its beginning, they just lost my business. They mixed paint for me and it didn't come out right. I went back to return it because it was clearly their error and the manager on duty was a gigantic jerk about it. Thankfully David remembered me (probably not a good thing, but this was the second time I'd had an issue with their paint) and gave me a full refund, but not before they completely alienated me and lost several customers. Awesome service! I came in needing a hose adapter (I'm sure it was obvious that I don't belong in a hardware store LOL) and Elijah came into my aisle within minutes and offered his assistance. He was super personable and I could tell he was genuinely happy to help me out! He figured out what I needed within two minutes tops. He had a great personality and it was clear that he enjoys working here. When I came to purchase my item, I gave him a compliment to the cashier. One of his coworkers jokingly called Elijah on his Walkie-talkie and told him that a customer upfront was complaining about him. It was hilarious! Everyone had a good laugh. The energy in this store was awesome! It was definitely WAY more fun than what I ever expected to have in a hardware store as a thirty year old confused chick. Loved it! These are good people! My FAVORITE place for anything hardware related... always plenty of friendly help, they even know what a "thingamabob" or a "rattlethingy" or whatever you need and have NO idea what it's actually called is. My Dad owned a few ACE hardwares in Mi. when I was a little shaver so I just love going to one.... they smell like my childhood, sort of a mix of fertilizer, paint and dust! So much better than Home Depot or Lowes... the help is available, and actually KNOWS things... AMAZING! They have never been very friendly at least compared to other ace hardware's I normally go to but their convenience sometimes makes it necessary to go to the store however today I tried to buy a 1 gallon spray tank ace brand the label clearly had $9.99 on it but the gal at checkout scannef it and it came up at 1499 she promptly called somebody to take a look at it and when he got there he looked at a small set of numbers on the label and said oh I don't have that one, now there were three facings with that same 999 label. I asked him if he could honor the 999 price since it was mislabeled he said well it might not have been mislabeled somebody like a customer might have moved it said he could honor 11 99. Outrageous, you would think trying to keep a customer would be a priority, but then to accuse me if switching the tags? read more

If you need new screens, do not go to this Ace, go to another one. I spent $350 for new screens, and had discussed the dimensions I had taken when I placed the order. One screen was too wide, and I went back into to have it adjusted. They wanted to charge the full price again for the screen, even though they could reuse all the material to make the adjustment. If this is their policy, they should advise customers upfront. This was never told to me, and they had to ask when I brought it back. Pretty unreasonable and poor customer service with this issue. Do not recommend you get your screens from this location. As a follow up, the store manager emailed and advised they would redo the screen at not charge. This helps, but I was first told full charge for the screen, which was originally $26, then called in and told $20, finally the email at no charge. I never expected it for free. I have no issue paying for the additional work involved, but feel it was a real rip-off to the store try to charge full price for this when the material is all there to cut it down slightly. read more

I suggested a traffic flow change to the store manager (Dave), it was a simple change which put the checkout lane on the side away from the store entrance. The way foot traffic was, the people coming into the store had no choice but to pass within 3 feet of the people checking out with their purchase. I suggested the checkout lane be moved to the opposite side of the checkout area. The suggested change would keep the traffic flow open so there was no bottleneck. I went back today and noted that the manager ignored my suggestion. I won't be doing business at that store anymore because of this manager's lack of care. He seemed to be unconcerned with trying to keep his customers safe and healthy, even though there were social distancing signs posted at the store facade. Very disappointing! read more

I went into have a key cut for my Hyundai having purchased the matching blank online for $9.00. They refused to cut the key on their machine because of the 'owners policy' that I did not purchase the blank from them. I said Fine I'll buy the blank from you, oh we don't stock that blank it's special order, ok how much? that would be over $200 hmm no wonder they require me to special order a blank from them, no thanks, like I said arrogant and unhelpful. read more
