    3 beef tacos

Okay for the first time, we stopped for drinks and a few appetizers on a Saturday afternoon. Being that we just stopped at the other Patron in East Liberty 2 weeks before, we expected the same here. We were mistaken. The booth floor where we were seated at was sticky. Menus were dirty. We should have left right away but, our guest we were meeting was already there and had already ordered so we stayed. Here is the review... The drink we ordered - the "Margrona" was supposed to come with sugar or salt on the rim of the and that was missing. Should have taken a picture. Chips presented were not warm like the chips we received in East Liberty every time they were filled a few weeks prior. The Salsa was not refilled. Queso was warm but runny. Wings were average. Microwave beans and rice I guess. Beef tacos were ok. Can't remember what our guest had. Our waitress was missing in action when we wanted to checkout. We had to search to find someone so we could be released to pay. Appetizers pictured were what you'd expect. Just something to go along with the drinks. Nothing earth shattering. We won't be back. Note: The East Liberty Patron on Highland in Pittsburgh was much cleaner and the drinks delivered were presented as pictured on the menu unlike this site. Hard skip.

Huevos Con Chorizo and complimentary tortilla chips with salsa

Was in the mood for something different, so took the kiddo to Patron Mexican Grill to see how she'd like it. This is real Mexican food, not Taco Bell's version of it. We were seated quickly & drinks were also brought quickly. Since I was driving, I didn't treat myself to one of their margaritas, which made me sad, but I can't knock them for that. Kiddo ordered the nachos. It's an appetizer on the menu, but it was a pretty sizable order. I didn't get a picture of it because she dove into it right away. She opted for just cheese nachos, though there's a variety of nachos on the menu, including a "healthy" one. I got the Huevos Con Chorizo off the lunch menu. Chorizo isn't something easily found in western PA & I miss it from when we lived in south Texas. The order comes with refried beans, Mexican rice, three tortillas, and scrambled eggs mixed with chorizo (Mexican sausage). I also ordered a side of pico de gallo. A taco MUST have pico de gallo on it! I think it's a law. The food was SO good! OMG, I couldn't even eat it all, but I left stuffed and happy. I just wish the tortillas were bigger. There's too much food to stuff on those little tortillas (I turn everything into tacos or burritos). But it was all great, and I'll definitely go back (next time with someone else driving so I can enjoy a margarita!)

First impression was that the color scheme, decorations, and menu all seemed to be dated and uninspired. The staff were polite and attentive. I ordered the salad and Salmon Oscar. The salad was good and the blue cheese dressing I chose was house-made. It was good. My girlfriend got the wedge salad which I think was a bit expensive since it was a $6 up charge for a wedge of iceberg lettuce from the standard salad that came with the entrees. My Salmon Oscar with asparagus was very good. I enjoyed every bite of the salmon and crab. My daughter's chicken parm came with a ton of linguini. My girlfriend got the signature crab cakes which she said were mostly crab and not filler. So while I thought the menu was dated when reading it the food was well executed.

My wedding soup and my husband's French onion soup were delicious. The wedding soup was loaded with meatballs and chicken. My husband has a thing for French onion soup and tries it every chance he gets. He said this may have been the best ever. We split a Reuben sandwich and upgraded to onion rings. The waitress brought us each a half portion so we didn't have to divide it ourselves, which was nice. There was plenty of meat on the sandwich, making it acceptable, not great but good enough. Onion rings were very good. Dessert sounded tempting, a cherry crème brûlée. It was okay, kind of like cherry jello with a sugar crust on top. A bit disappointing to say the least. Our waitress was on top of filling the water glasses and was very nice. Now for the bad news and why I'm only giving 3 stars. I went to the ladies room before eating and there was no hot water to wash my hands. I asked my husband if the men's room had hot water and he said no. We both let it run but it never got hot, not even warm. Then I noticed (after drinking several glasses of water unfortunately) that there was a crack in my water glass. I mentioned it to my husband and he said, "you should see the chips in the glass tabletop over her on my side". I get it that wear and tear happens, but these things should be caught before serving guests. And as far as the hot water...how do servers and kitchen workers properly clean their hands after using the toilet without hot water? So the food is fairly solid and reasonably priced. But be on the lookout for chipped glassware and table tops. And use your own hand sanitizer if you have it!

It's a nice enough setting, though we appeared to be the sole diners at 5:30pm on a Wednesday evening. The menu consists of mainly small bites (appetizers/tapas) and some entrees. We elected to go with the small bites to share and ordered the hummus, bruschetta, and shrimp. All were tasty and quite enough to fill us, though I will ask the inevitable question that I see happen at restaurant after restaurant -- why, oh why, do you INSIST upon setting out a disproportionate number of xxx (in this case shrimp) for your guests? I swear I think you do this on purpose for the pleasure of seeing your guests fight over the remaining xxx (again, shrimp in this example)... Sigh... it just seems unnecessary. The shrimp came 3 to an order for 2 of us... Do you not see an issue here? They were tasty. Whatev. I give up. Final words -- food was pleasantly arranged on the plate, our server was pleasant and engaging, and all was good.

It is great to have a place that serves upscale food but isn't stuffy and pretentious. Service is always friendly and efficient. I love that they have a rotating seasonal menu. Got a Pinot noir wine and waters Starter=soup of the day: tomato w/ chickpea and chorizo- bold tomato flavor and lots of arugula in it. Not so much chorio but flavor was very good, not overly salty. 10/10 After the soup we put our nit-picking goggles on as we knew this was a pretty sophisticated meal. Daily special- pan seared mahi mahi with asparagus fennel kohlabi and arugula salad citrus buerre Blanc. Light citrus flavor is found thru the mahi mahi, its sauce and the salad. Very congruent. Asparagus was a neutral addition. Not flowing with or against the mahi. Fish was cooked well. Just lots of raw red onion on the salad was a little overpowering. 7/10 Red wine braised short rib- didn't ask how well done, so seems chefs choice. We have a preference towards med rare. This was cooked well done making it a tad tough-stringy. Mashed potatoes with some larger pieces of potato, but very neutral plain flavor, great with the beef sauce. Carrots cooked well, just neutral, natural flavor. Overall a very classic flavor combo that works.7/10. Would stop by again to try more dishes. Ps- when paying we noticed final bill to sign was more than first bill at table. When we asked why the difference we were told it's the credit card fee of $3. This was really the first time I've seen this at a restaurant, yet alone at a decent place like one. Would have been best for them to tell us this upfront.
