Okay for the first time, we stopped for drinks and a few appetizers on a Saturday afternoon. Being that we just stopped at the other Patron in East Liberty 2 weeks before, we expected the same here. We were mistaken. The booth floor where we were seated at was sticky. Menus were dirty. We should have left right away but, our guest we were meeting was already there and had already ordered so we stayed. Here is the review... The drink we ordered - the "Margrona" was supposed to come with sugar or salt on the rim of the and that was missing. Should have taken a picture. Chips presented were not warm like the chips we received in East Liberty every time they were filled a few weeks prior. The Salsa was not refilled. Queso was warm but runny. Wings were average. Microwave beans and rice I guess. Beef tacos were ok. Can't remember what our guest had. Our waitress was missing in action when we wanted to checkout. We had to search to find someone so we could be released to pay. Appetizers pictured were what you'd expect. Just something to go along with the drinks. Nothing earth shattering. We won't be back. Note: The East Liberty Patron on Highland in Pittsburgh was much cleaner and the drinks delivered were presented as pictured on the menu unlike this site. Hard skip. read more

Worst experience at a Mexican restaurant for lunch that I've probably ever had. If there's something wrong, I voice it and give the restaurant a chance to make it right. But when there is resistance to a simple request like a side of hot sauce, and I feel like I'm a bother when I myself also work in the restaurant industry and know how grueling the work and (some) customers can be... all bets are off. The gentleman with the white beard and a black hat on seems like he didn't wanna be bothered waiting on me at all. He was not friendly. The ingredients are basically the same as you would get from any other Mexican restaurant that looks just like this. However, the difference is that you can tell everything isunder seasoned. The beans are truly just right out of the can and so is the rice. There is nothing added to them to doctor it up at all. I asked the gentleman who sat me and seemed much nicer for some of the typical spicy hot sauce that these kind of restaurants typically have in the kitchen (beyond what they have on the tables). He said that he would have to charge me for it as a side and I told him that was OK, but then he seemed annoyed and just brought me back more habanero, hot sauce, like the one on the table already. I speak Spanish, so it's not like there was a misunderstanding. It is the holidays and I have no clue what's going on in this gentleman's life. Maybe he's going through a hard time in the last thing on his mind is burritos and hot sauce. However, from my point of view, I'm extremely underwhelmed. Nothing had flavor and even the rice looked a little old. I wanted to have a nice experience before going to the mall mid afternoon and doing some holiday shopping. I'm sure a lot of people will have a good general Mexican-American meal here before or after the mall. Maybe I caught them on a bad day. Was in the mood for something different, so took the kiddo to Patron Mexican Grill to see how she'd like it. This is real Mexican food, not Taco Bell's version of it. We were seated quickly & drinks were also brought quickly. Since I was driving, I didn't treat myself to one of their margaritas, which made me sad, but I can't knock them for that. Kiddo ordered the nachos. It's an appetizer on the menu, but it was a pretty sizable order. I didn't get a picture of it because she dove into it right away. She opted for just cheese nachos, though there's a variety of nachos on the menu, including a "healthy" one. I got the Huevos Con Chorizo off the lunch menu. Chorizo isn't something easily found in western PA & I miss it from when we lived in south Texas. The order comes with refried beans, Mexican rice, three tortillas, and scrambled eggs mixed with chorizo (Mexican sausage). I also ordered a side of pico de gallo. A taco MUST have pico de gallo on it! I think it's a law. The food was SO good! OMG, I couldn't even eat it all, but I left stuffed and happy. I just wish the tortillas were bigger. There's too much food to stuff on those little tortillas (I turn everything into tacos or burritos). I love the decor -- bright colors all around and the table and chairs are highly decorative. The staff was polite, friendly, and efficient. The menu, while looking extensive, was missing any pork enchiladas. Drat! I ordered steak fajitas instead and a margarita. Both were good but, honestly, how could you mess up a fajita, anyways. This place is really going downhill. Its noticeable when you pull into the pockmarked and potholed parking lot. When you walk up to the door, and see the condition of the building and signage. All in need of repair. If they can't maintain appearances, what is the related effect on the service and food quality? Hard to say...the server was...nice...and the food seemed...okay...but even inside there are broken window blinds and not much traffic coming in. Used to be a frequent visitor with a dear friend. Been at least 2 years since my last visit. Walked in believing i could order my usual: a spinach or veggie quesadilla, no cheese, no sour cream. Apparently i was wrong. I ordered that, at the bar. Was told that's not how a quesadilla is made, I would be served what the bartender thought was a good substitute. What i got was a platter full of refried beans served in varying tortillas, and a tostada. No idea if they were vegan or not because that question was never answered. I picked around the plate, ate chips and salsa while my mate ate his meal. We shared a pitcher of 'Rita's. I didn't want as much as my mate did, but the bartender insisted on grabbing the pitcher and topping off both glasses when he noticed there was room in them. Very disappointed. I've been eating at the Monroeville Patron for 14+ years I've been eating at the Monroeville Patron for 14+ years without any issues. My most recent visit the servers are all young, doesn't speak English well and are incompetent. However, their attitude is very much made know. Our server was very rude, rolling her eyes, and had plain ole horrible service. She was not competent enough to fulfill small request that my family asked for such as refills, straws, and even taking our order (she forgot about us). I asked for extra napkins. She made mean, nasty facial expressions and I caught her. She blatantly still hadn't gotten our napkins. I aggressively yelled loud enough for the entire restaurant to hear that I've been waiting for napkins. Immediately after that all the severs had a meeting with the manager (the man who stands at the cash register) in the back. He returned to his position and I read his lips saying he doesn't care. I made eye contact with him letting him know I seen him make that comment. He then proceed to come and now address any issues. I just gave a cold shoulder and knew that would be my last visit there. It is such a shame that their service has drastically went downhill and they're constantly hiring incompetent, non speaking servers (family members). read more

The Carne Asada left much to be desired. The beef was preformed slices, dry and tasteless. The service was good. I was part of small group of people and had a separate check. I was not happy that an automatic 18% gratuity was added to my bill. I usually leave 20% so they lost $ on the tip. I love Mexican food and there are many Mexican restaurants in the area. And, I'm glad I did !!!! Obviously, I couldn't try everything on the menu, but the street tacos (Al Pastor) are legit!!!! Suki was my server and she was fabulous. I LOVE Patron Mexican Grill. I love the food and the service doesn't get any better. Everyone is beyond friendly and always ready to get you anything you need. You are greeted with salsa and chips, and I suggest getting the fiesta dip. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. My favorite entree is the Patron fajitas. It comes with shrimp, chicken, beef, and grilled green peppers and onions. The dish comes with rice, beans, lettuce, etc on the side. I am usually at a Patron's at least once a week to get my fix. The Monroeville location has a buffet on Sunday, not sure of time, but it's a chance to sample most everything on the menu. The decor is very bright and Mexcian oriented. Friendly staff and a never ending glass of sweet tea as the staff are very attentive. Fox Chapel has the same service but I don't think there is a Sunday buffet. The queso blanco cheese is very salty so if you serve it without vegetables or salsa or something to cut it, it tends to overpower the dishes. The liberal use of queso blanco is reminiscent of El Campesino. GF ordered fajita chix salad w extra guac. Again, decent but a little bland. Guac was limey and flavorful. Free basket of chips/salsa was very good too. Service was really good. Ladies room was one of most disgusting I've seen in a restaurant.
