So I elected to go with a variation of hash browns that I'm accustomed to getting the south from waffle House... Scattered, diced which means tomatoes, and covered which means slice of cheese. Although they restrict the ability to buy beer and wine in grocery stores in Pennsylvania, there is no restriction on when you can get a alcoholic beverage like there is in the south... Bloody Mary with breakfast at 9:00 a.m.. there was a long line to wait for a table so my friend who's the local went to the other entrance for the package store and saw there was ample room at the bar so that's where we went. We split an omelette and got some bacon on the side. The bacon was clearly oven baked and extremely crispy and is barely flavorful. The waitress was nice and attentive at the bar. And she had the southern charm of calling us honey and sweetie even though she was younger than us. My friend says she used to come by there often when her kids were younger or for their weekly specials. It's a large restaurant so plenty of tables in the traditional space. And I guess because of not having extra weight stuff they didn't encourage sitting in the bar... We sat at the bar so had the direct attention of the bartender. You can see from the menu there's lots of options for food which is probably why it's such a popular place.

Circling the small parking lot looking for your spot, reminiscing on the alumni sports team photos on the walls, and doing the twist in the entryway to navigate your way to your takeout, Gateway Grill is not much... but the food is usually fire!!! The pizza slices have big bubbling crusts with pepperoni so rustic cut that you will wonder if they accidentally gave you the whole piece... over and over again. Don't sleep on their meatball pizza. Because you will have basically full size meatballs for every slice... and they are delightful. We had family in and bought a large order - and we opted to try their sandwiches. The Chuck Roast sandwich and Turkey Rachel both sounded delicious... and Gateway Grill does have fresh smoked meats too! Takeout is a trip. In a full restaurant, you have to kinda stand in the way at the front counter and flag down someone to grab your order. But they definitely do a lot of to-go pizzas so you'll be able to handle it. Unfortunately, with their current to-go containers, the sandwiches ended up being sopping wet with condensation... the bottom toasted bread on both was basically dripping instead of crunchy. The fries had lost all texture too- air fryer to the rescue. I'd still recommend going - just stick to only pizza when ordering takeout until they find a way to ensure quality of other options.

We both let it run but it never got hot, not even warm. Then I noticed (after drinking several glasses of water unfortunately) that there was a crack in my water glass. I mentioned it to my husband and he said, "you should see the chips in the glass tabletop over her on my side". I get it that wear and tear happens, but these things should be caught before serving guests. And as far as the hot water...how do servers and kitchen workers properly clean their hands after using the toilet without hot water? So the food is fairly solid and reasonably priced. But be on the lookout for chipped glassware and table tops. And use your own hand sanitizer if you have it!

The only thing that was nice was them putting the birthday cake for my mom in the cooler until we were ready to serve it. Here are the problems we encountered. 1. We ordered 2 blooming onions, they were cold. One of them was over cooked, it had blackened area on it where is was over cooked. 2. The broccoli on my plate was cold and didn't look like it was ever cooled. Broccoli is one of the things that is usually good there. 3. My steak was over cooked as well. 4. Two of the other adults in our group did not enjoy their meals and will not be going back at any point in time. 5. We had three teenage boys with us that didn't each much of their food. I could they didn't like and lot a lot on their plates. We would have complained, but with everything so slow we would have never gotten out of there. The bill was over $160 and it was not worth it.

They are currently running their all you can eat shrimp special which gives you the opportunity to try three kinds in the first order, then an additional two per order. The restaurant has somewhat dated but very on theme nautical decor and everything about the restaurant was clean and well maintained (including the restrooms). There was one day that I think they must have been having an off night because everyone seemed crazy stressed and very short with us when questions were asked. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the side salad was. It was a great balance/mix of ingredients with delicious dressing. My main entree (Strozzapretti) was tasty but a bit seemed like there was a bit too much grease/oil or something that made the dish seem heavier than it needed to be. In general, a tasty place but could improve if service was more consistent.

My husband & I discovered the Esta Esta a couple of months ago & have been frequent Saturday night customers ever since. On our first visit, we had an excellent server named Tina, she along with the superb food, is the reason we return every Saturday evening. Her professionalism & friendly service is outstanding & much appreciated However, this evening we were very disappointed. There was a new hostess when we entered who basically just led us to our table & left much to be diisired She never filled our water glasses nor did she give us menu's because she stated to us that they were all being used by the bigger parties. Ok, well, we are customers too so I felt this was not very professional to make us feel unimportant. She told us that our server would be with us shortly & we explained that we always request Tina. Her response was "well Tina is too busy" in a very rude & abrupt manner, & told us that we needed to make a reservation if we prefer a specific server. At this point, we were ready to walk out because I've never heard of this especially when it looked at though the other servers were just as "busy" if not more so. As it ended up, Tina did come immediately over with menu's & our cocktails that she remembers that we order every week. Im hoping this was just an isolated incident because We love the food & would really hate to not return because of such treatment. I didn't mention any of this to anyone at the time but I felt compelled to let management know why they almost lost good customers. read more

This is truly the best kept secret in Monroeville. The outside may look "old" and the dining area is in the era of Frank Sinatra (what's wrong with that?), but it is clean, the service is friendly and welcoming, and the food is EXCELLENT! We have never had a bad experience at this place. The bar is "friendly" and the drinks are made like a drink should be...with alcohol! The first time we went there to eat we entered through the bar area and were greeted by all age groups, welcoming us to the place. The dining room experience was just as friendly and the food was awesome; we have been regulars ever since. The owner/chef, Michael, comes out to make sure everything was as you expected and makes you feel like "family." There is no better steak in the area; their Filet Mignon is outstanding and always fixed to perfection. The Veal, Italian, and even the Sandwiches (try their Ruben or Fish) are simply excellent! Do yourself a favor and try this treasure in the crowded restaurant field. read more

Truly the best meal I've had while in the pittsburg area, sence before i got to town 3 weeks ago. I had the surf & turf. My filet was cooked to a medium rare perfection as I asked & tasted incredible, I'm from KC, I know steak. The lobster was beautifully cooked & tasted wonderful, my server said she thought it was the best in town, i don't care to challenge this. The pene & sauce was better than mom's, at least mine. and the simple salad with house italian vinegar eternal was great. of the other regulars talked it up, and it did not disapoint. This is a genuine mom & pop restaurant. or perhaps better than your m9m's as well. The staff that waited on me at the bar including Mike the owner were friendly, chatted me up and made me feel at home and Vary welcome. I went in on a Friday when i arrived the lot was packed, I sat at the bar alone but soon felt like I was a regular. Honest good people, serving genuine good food. read more

I used to go to the Esta Esta when I was younger, to pretty much "hang" at the bar with friends in my early twenties. I hadn't been there for 15 years, and decided to take my mom to their New Year's Eve dinner. My mother is extremely particular about her food......SHE WAS FLOORED!!! Her filet was done perfectly, and the lobster was to die for. Since that dinner, I make it a point to go there for dinner as often as I can, and I have NEVER had a bad meal. The place has been updated, & the bar is a great place to go before or after a meal.....or to just go to Happy Hour. This place is Monroeville's best kept secret. I have eaten at The Wooden Nickel, & the new Nardi's, but can tell you they cannot compete with the food or the service. I would highly recommend this place, & hope that they get the business that they deserve, although I hope it doesn't become so packed I can't get a table!! read more

This is the coolest place to hang out and lay back. The food is excellent, the staff is friendly and it's a blast from the past. You guys don't know what ur talking about why change anything - it's exactly how it should be and it's great enjoy it. There are a lot of other places that meant ur phase/generation if u dont get it move on. But don't try to change this place it's my good fellas place for sure... and Iam only in my 40's and wouldn't have it any other way. So u 20 to and 30's yr old get a grip it's a place that's has a heart for the past with good service and food that' the theme. That's the way it should stay- don't like it then creep to more modern over rated expensive food of less quality and less hospitality with no community connection but let Esta Esta be what it is and come by and expereince the connection of good food good people and good times read more

Spooky & bizarre is an understatement. This place looks like its infested with bugs!! The chairs are stained & taped together. The smell of smoke is overwhelming!! Although our server, Sam, was sweet, she was a fumbling idiot. Even though she messed up our order, which we totally understand, we are all human & make mistakes, the host embarrassed her in front of the customer, which, alone, is TOTALLY unprofressional!! This place is a sad version of a 70's throwback. DON'T GO THERE!! It's OVERpriced & underrated! Then my wife goes to the bathroom & reports that there are shower curtains as opposed to doors. Esta Esta has been a staple for us for the past few years...I just hadn't gotten around to writing a review. The steaks beat anything at some of the pricier 'steak' restaurants in this town, and the italian food is spot on. From the appetizers to the main courses, you cant lose. The green goddess salad dressing isn't on the menu. but its a garlicy ranch, so order it if you get a chance. If they have broccoli cheese soup as a special definitely get it. Hands down the best I have ever had. We have done several of their holiday buffets, which are amazing, and have sample just about everything on the menu. You cant lose. read more

We brought friends to your restaurant last night and again you food was over the top AMAZING. I don't care for crab dip but I LOVE yours & could eat it as my meal. Your spots Romano are my favorite and the velvety citris you served with them last night really finished off the dish. My man loves all your fish dishes & really devoured your baked cod. I have sampled, from friends, your chicken parm and veal Marsala. They are both Italian perfection on a plate. I will have to try your steaks & lobster on my next visit. I haven't been to Esta Esta in about thirty years. I am sorry I haven't! Although the restaurant hasn't been remodeled it has a quaint old Italian charm like a restaurant you would see on the Sopranos. The wedding soup was the best I ever had and their red sauce is amazing! I had the surf and turf. Filet was good and lobster awesome. Plus you get two 3 oz tails versus one at most restaurants. The table split the fried zucchini appetizer and it was large and good. Service was also great! I can't wait to go back the next time I am in the area. Is it a time warp with a Goodfellas feel? Absolutely! It adds to the charm of the place. Often with Sinatra playing in the background. Chef Michael takes great pride in his preparation of the dishes. The scallops ala'maria although not on the menu is out of this world and available upon request. My husband raves about the scrod. The star menu item is the Carolina Crab Dip appetizer which keeps us coming back! Lump crab meat that is not over seasoned and beat out the Carolina locals in a contest. Want an old-school Italian restaurant with old-fashioned decor and extra-large and well-prepared portions of traditional Italian food? This is your restaurant. Esta Esta is the anti-Olive Garden and generic pizza shop with a few other dishes. I love the fresh from 1960 decor which recalls all my favorite Pittsburgh Italian restaurants I remember from my childhood. For me, walking through their door is like time travel, look and feel, aroma, and menu all accurately represent the best of the fifties and sixties. read more

The food could have been some tapas or meze. When i left i was so hungry. The portions are typical Nouvelle Cuisine but the taste was not there. Overpriced really. Also it is more a Sushi french menu than French cuisine. I am ok with that though but then the dishes should be pristine. Definitely a little kitschy in the decor - expected the Brat Pack to walk in - but the food was amazing. We had the fried zucchini appetizer - so light and the sauce was yummy. Between the three of us we had the fettuccine Alfredo, eggplant Parmesan and the spinach and artichoke ravioli. ALL were amazing! Great service. read more

Always great food, great service a friendly atmosphere. Chef Michael comes out into the dining room to always ask customers how their food was. They have a really great buffet for Mothers Day, Easter, and Thanksgiving. They do weekend specials every weekend, which are a great buy. I highly recommend this restaurant! read more

When we got there he gave us lots of ice water because we brought our Stanley cups and he filled them up! We also had sat near the wall & brought our plugs & chargers to service our phones! Haven't been here for several years but our group thought it would be a nice place to go for good food and conversation. The restaurant is pleasantly themed with its Italian roots. The menu allows for many differing tastes including sauce choices. I especially liked the sweet red pasta sauce. It's an area favorite and worth driving a few miles. Lots of parking but a bit hard to see as it is tucked into a row of store fronts behind Eat'n Park.

S/o Big Burrito Co. that runs this restaurant and many others in Pittsburgh... we visited because they send you a free entree (up to $30) as a birthday reward! The interior is stunning. Elegance achieved! With long booth seating weaving between the tables, upscale decor, and yes... window tints that make it always feel like date night inside. Our waiter was phenomenal from clearing the full table set between courses, wiping off the crumbs between settings, and just genuinely enjoying his job and making every detail matter! We enjoyed the: - Free Bread Service - a warmed focaccia with a butter/oil blend infused with fresh salt and herbs! A perfect red blend that's not too sweet/not too dry and the scent alone should be bottled as a perfume - Little Gem Romaine - upon first bite, it seemed bitter, but once you enjoy the full accompaniment of Parmesan shavings and bread crumb, it really is a perfect starter and base layer for a night of carbs - Fusilli - fresh handmade pasta with a delightful vodka sauce perfectly tossed to coat every noodle and don't worry the listed Calabrian chili is not seedy or spicy but just and aspect of the depth of the sauce. The amount of chive was overwhelming, but it was able to be picked off carefully to level it down. A half portion was the perfect size for my wife's meal. - Basil Spaghetti with Grilled Chicken and Prosciutto - even the waiter said ordering two meats was a POWER PLAY, but for anyone who hasn't had prosciutto and chicken paired with pasta... he wasn't lying! A thoughtful basil infused pasta with a very rich garlic sauce and heirloom tomatoes roasted to the point of rupture. If only the prosciutto had been crisped, I would have found my favorite new Italian pasta dish! We will definitely be back! Thankful for such a gem!
