Chicken Chimi
Michelle S.

The food is always great and so consistent. Plus this location serves chimichangas (my personal favorite ) however shadyside does not. There were even a few brand new options like the fried chicken tacos. This is my daughter's favorite place for their tofu salad and vegan chipotle ranch. Big azz margs are always a crowd pleaser. Service was always amazing and a very small wait time.

Ate all my food besides from the celery cuz yuck!

So for an appetizer we got some chips, queso, black bean dip and guacamole which we usually get and the queso was delish as always and I don't like guacamole so I didn't eat that, my parents said that the black bean dip was different than normal but I've never tried it so I wouldn't know. I got buffalo wild boneless wings which I get every time because I will never ever change my order, I got blue cheese dressing and extra sauce. It was totally epic. I also got some fries and found out I didn't like them, which I LOVE fries so that was pretty odd. I think they are too fried, like they are so crunchy which is better than soggy but like whatever. They waitress had a super cute Christmas tree on her head. Overall experience 10/10.

Ordered Mad Mex to go (I do this often lol) and got my usual steak tacos and the birria quesadilla. Both are always 10/10 and never really miss. I usually get jersey chips too - they have a great queso and ranch! Love to dine in or eat out at this big restaurant group!

About a month ago I had issue at this restaurant and sent a lengthy email but never heard back. Last week I had another issue so I'm posting both here since management doesn't respond to emails. I hit this Mad Mex for takeout on the way out of town to a few destinations. Last month I placed a pretty large order (almost $100) online. Because the online modification system is lacking things like "no tortilla" for salads and "sauce on the side" for tacos, I had to call in to make modifications for food allergies. The woman who answered the phone couldn't be bothered to let me finish my sentence and told me to "call back later because they were busy". I explained about the food allergies and she begrudgingly wrote down what I said. When I arrived, I stood at the bar for almost 5 minutes with no employee behind the bar. When someone brought the food out, everything I requested was not actioned. Tortillas on an order for a gluten free person. Sauce on things. Forgot the salad dressing. I caught what I could but some things were discovered when we cut food open. Last week I called to place a takeout order to grab before I hopped on the turnpike. To be honest, I didn't want to give them my money but the food options in Monroeville are mostly junk. I called 3 different times and nobody picked up. Then I called Greentree to ask if Monroeville was closed. The manager put me on hold, called Monroeville AND the manager and couldn't reach anyone (5 mins of hold). I called Monroeville back about 5 mins later and someone magically answered! I placed my order and when I got there, there were 2 (2!) customers. Why was nobody answering? Definitely didn't have anything to do with the employee eating Chik Fil A in the back booth on her phone or the entire pan of cake they had for some kind of employee party. I don't tip on takeout anymore no matter where I'm calling and Mad Mex was the main impetus for this. About 50% of the time something is wrong or missing with my order but in 2025, my expectations are so low, what can you do.

Normally, we do not go to chain restaurants. Big Burrito is one of the exceptions. Mad Mex is always a great meal. House margaritas along with the salsas & chips are fresh & flavorful. Tonight, we had the pick a dippa, which was house made chips with your choice of 3 salsas or dips. Our party of 4 had 4 different meals. They were The Big Burrito, The Chicken Chimi, Super Mad Mex Birria Burrito & the Birria tacos with waffle fries. For dessert, we enjoyed a platter of 4 chocolate hazelnut churros. The service was average, and the restaurant needed some sweeping after a busy dinner shift. The decor is always fun and the food is always worth the trip

If you're in the mood for authentic Mexican food, then look elsewhere. That's not a bad thing though as I friggin' love Mad Mex and try to visit when I return to visit the Pittsburgh area. They do a different take on Mexican cuisine that's not authentic, but so good! Americanized Mexican at it's finest. My absolute favorite item on their menu is their Southwest Wings... these green, flavorful wings were one of the first things I ever ordered at the North Hills location and that sauce is so fresh and delicious. I highly recommend. Their burritos are massive and square and filling AF! They were veggie friendly for years before it was trendy. They have some delicious Tofu wraps, beans and other veggie goodies on which that southwest green wing sauce flavors up quite nicely. For thanksgiving, they have their Gobblerito which is a turkey/stuffing/potato filled behemoth of a meal with cranberry sauce to slather on top. It's like thanksgiving on a plate. Wait, that's not a good analogy, but you get my drift. They do occasionally offer this over the summer as a promotion too to get your turkey fix in before you're sick of seeing turkey everywhere. The service at this location is a bit slow. The waitress barely stopped at our table for drink refills and such. The food takes a long time to come out, but it's worth it. Don't go if you're in a hurry, but go if you're hungry.

Mad Mex Quesadilla

Mad Mex is a favorite in my family so we come here on a semi-annual basis. I arrived at 11 and sat at the bar. the staff was friendly and accommodating of my complicated gift card order and took care of it while I was waiting for my food. I tried the Mad Mex Quesadilla and it was quite good. I went with the steak option and the meat was cooked just right, not too chewy. It was a smaller entrée in general, but worked well for a small lunch.

The kids menu is an amazing deal: entree, carrots and celery, drink, and a small brownie sundae for only $6.50! All other prices were reasonable but meals do not include rice and beans, and chips and salsa are not complementary. Many vegetarian protein options including portobello mushroom, crispy tofu, and Morningstar chorizo.

I had the pleasure of dining at Mad Max today, and it was like a much-needed oasis in the middle of a desert of boring meals. I want to articulate the exceptional customer service and the remarkable ambience at Mad Max in Monroeville. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly by the staff who were attentive and prompt in refilling our drinks and salsa to make sure we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The ambience of the restaurant is both sterile and hip, like a contemporary, hipster version of a Tex-Mex eatery. It has maintained this unique aesthetic for the last 20 years, blending metal and wood elements with abstract chili motifs that are illuminated on the ceiling. The restaurant has a distinctive vibe that is enhanced by the eclectic tribal music playing in the background, which adds to the overall experience. In short, Mad Max in Monroeville boasts an impressive ambiance that's both modern and rustic. The restaurant's unique atmosphere is only heightened by the exceptional customer service we received, making it a must-visit dining destination. My wife and I always start with the sampler platter, which has refried beans, guacamole, salsa, and chips. It's our go-to order, and it's consistently good - a refreshing change from our cat's attempts at cooking. I'd rate it a solid 7 out of 10. The guacamole is always hearty and delicious, and we always eat it up faster than a cat chasing a laser pointer. For the main course, I ordered the Las Wingos wrap, which was still as good as the last time I had it. I ordered it with a side of French fries, which was like a match made in heaven. However, I must say that the wrap was smaller than I remember it to be - it was as if the restaurant had a machine that could shrink anything it touched. But hey, it was still delicious, especially with their blue cheese sauce, which was like a lightning bolt of flavor in my mouth. If you're looking for a Tex-Mex restaurant that's better than most other Mad Max locations in the region, then Mad Max is the place to be. And if you're a fan of quirky humor, then this review is for you. My experience today was an eight out of 10, or eight fares out of 10. So do yourself a favor and give Mad Max a try - it's a trip worth taking, even if you have to dodge some shrinking rays along the way.

Great Happy Hour. 4:30 - 6:30. Half off drafts and wings. Can't beat cold beer and hot wings. "Insane " wings are spicy with a touch of sweet. Nice beer selection. Friendly staff. Good Mexican dishes. Recommend for a tasty and fresh meal. Their margaritas are also tasty. I get the original but there are other tasty sounding flavors.

Wasn't too busy for a Sunday when we stopped in. Service was decent. My husband and I shared the steak nachos and steak quesadillas. I really enjoyed the quesadillas, we asked for no corn in ours. The guac that came on the side of my nachos was flavorful. I wish the nachos were better layered. There were soooo many chips on the bottom that had nothing on is and since the cheese is melted, not melty if that makes sense, it didn't make it's way down there at all. It kind of felt wasteful, there could have been a whole other meal under there. Also, chips and salsa are not served complimentary. Not a fan of that. Would come back for the quesadillas to go though.

This mad mex is always crowded and has a bit of a line and long waiting. Other than that it's the same fare as other Mad Mexs so it's good.

My friend recommended the black bean dip, and it was quite good. I'm a guac/salsa & chips girl, but this was a nice change. It was flavorful and had a nice smoky kick from chipotle. Sadly, this is another Mexican place that has eliminated the free chips & salsa. For my entree - a Mad Mex bowl with shrimp. The grilled corn was a great addition. The faro was a bit thick with the other items, but the grilled peppers & onion, with fresh cherry tomatoes, avocado, and shrimp were really good. I did ask a server for some salsa, and she brought a small ramekin of this *fabulous* pineapple habanero salsa that she said was her fave, and I quickly saw why. Excellent stuff - the pineapple really sings with a zip of citrus & heat. Yum! My friend got his usual - the crispy Baja tacos. The 3 tacos were crammed with cornmeal breaded & fried tilapia, slaw, avocado, cilantro, and topped with a zingy chipotle aioli. The only negative to me was the flour tortillas; I'm a corn tortilla girl. That dish came with rice o & beans. It was a TON of food. We each ended up taking food home. It was a nice lunch. Service was ok. Next time I come, I'll either try their signature burrito or - my friend's sister's fave: the wings (at a Mexican joint?!?). My friend - who has been coming for years - thought the prices had gone up on the menu. Almost $18 for *tilapia* fish tacos is definitely a bit much. Still, I would try it again. Love the decor inside. The place is huge. Great for big parties.

Our visit to the Robinson location was good, anyways. I've been to this location a handful of times previously and never had a bad experience. Both of us got burritos and an appetizer of chips and salsa to share. I also decided to have a margarita and it really hit the spot! My burrito had 3 different sauces on it, a side of sour cream, and I decided on beef birria as my protein. Definitely worth the small upcharge! Overall our dinner was enjoyable and the waitress was friendly and helpful. We don't go to Mad Mex super often, but it's a good choice in the Robinson area and the prices are fair. As a chain restaurant hater most of the time, I do like Mad Mex.

From the time we entered and left you would have thought we were a total inconvenience. A more than half empty restaurant and we were advised they don't have a table for 12 and not sure if they could actually seat us at all. I asked if we could go to the bar and the manager who was a blonde woman said "sure" but we can't really hang out for long. (What does that even mean???). We made our way to the bar and our group was casually making their way in but we were advised that we can use any of the bar tables and we all have to open separate tabs, which was fine. Out of thin air a back table randomly appeared (sarcasm) and they said we can move our party to that table and we would have a dedicated waitress. The waitress took one round of drinks and appetizer order and then never came back. We couldn't even get a refill of waters. When I went back to the bar the bartender said we have to order from our waitress and I said "The one that doesn't want to wait on us??" And told her I would just give her cash for a beverage since I know she didn't really want me opening a tab. The was my 2nd time here and both have been subpar and a joke. Overall you have a management problem who I guess doesn't need to make money on a random slow Wednesday night.
