What drew me to her page initially was the fact that she uses organic ingredients. If you're gonna have a cake, why not have a somewhat healthy one? Despite being across the country and working with a time difference (I currently live in California, but my godson is in NJ), I was able to coordinate with Nicole about the cake I had in mind. Given the pandemic, I made the tough decision to not attend his first birthday party out of safety concerns. Naturally, I still wanted to get him something special for such an important milestone. The end result was a beautiful recreation of this baby shark birthday cake I found on the internet. Nicole gave it a few of her personal touches and this cake came out so perfect. I've been to Highland Park many times but this was my first time stepping into Berkeley Bakery Why I love this place: - friendly staff: immediately greeted with a friendly hello - stacks of delicious pastries everywhere. I'm not too familiar with Filipino pastries but since each pastry has a list of ingredients on the label, I was easily able to identify them - I tried the Brioche purple yam ( I believe the purple yam is ube?) and it was delicious! The sprinkle of cheddar cheese added a nice salty surprise to each bite. I'll be back to pick up some other baked goodies. There really is so much to choose from!
