Was excited to come here because 1) I always want to support Filipino businesses because there are so few and 2) I love Filipino baked goods. I looked all over social media and saw a great variety including some of my favorites. Unfortunately, when I got there, there was nothing on the shelves, nobody in the front of the store, and the place looked run down. I heard people talking in the back and when I called for someone because maybe their stock in held in the back, no one came. TLDR - variety of Filipino baked goods! Friendly staff Lately I've been craving sweet baked goods from Asian bakeries and I discovered this place! I've been to Highland Park many times but this was my first time stepping into Berkeley Bakery Why I love this place: - friendly staff: immediately greeted with a friendly hello - stacks of delicious pastries everywhere. I'm not too familiar with Filipino pastries but since each pastry has a list of ingredients on the label, I was easily able to identify them - I tried the Brioche purple yam ( I believe the purple yam is ube?) and it was delicious! The sprinkle of cheddar cheese added a nice salty surprise to each bite. I'll be back to pick up some other baked goodies. There really is so much to choose from! read more

TLDR: a bakery sufficient in staving off your craving for Filipino baked goods but doesn't leave you completely satisfied. Everyone who works there makes you feel like family. I moved to NYC from the west coast where Filipino food and bakeries are super available. I'm often in New Brunswick to visit my partner and friends so I was extremely excited to find that there was a Filipino bakery nearby. I got pandesal, ube cheese pandesal, and several various other things; I was super excited! Unfortunately, I think the only thing I cared for was the ube cheese pandesal and perhaps the hopia na baboy. Overall, I'd come back to buy ingredients to cook Filipino dishes but not convinced i need to return for any baked goods. Perhaps I'll try it again and update my review later. read more

Filipino bakery! Hopia Baboy is a sweet pastry filled with a savory scallion onion filling, so delicious. The ube cheese pandesal is a purple ube bun with a cream filling. Both were delicious. Lots of other varieties to try! read more

Fresh bread made daily and friendly service. Lots of place around with free parking. Small place but not so busy on weekends.

Yesterday, I had just discovered this place , I didn't know this bakery been here for 25 years !!!! I went hog wild like a kid in the candy store . Normally, I go to asian grocery stories for my Filipino sweet craving but I wanted something fresh. This store may looks small but it's filled with my favorite essentials. When I had a sample of the ube Pandesal with cheese, it was fresh out the oven: I swear I had to buy more to take home. It is sooo soft and creamy:the perfect amount of cream and ube filling. Very welcoming staff, feels like home in the Philippines. A lot of breads to choose from, different varieties. Highly recommend!

With aisles packed with stacks of bags containing baked goods that you have to basically walk sideway, this bakery is more of an outlet of their catered items than a full-fledge bakery. The bakery serves all things Filipino, so anything from macapunos to (Chinese) hopias to pastillas and kutsintas (sweet annatto-brown flat cakes for $3 per box) are available. My favs are the langka (jackfruit) hopias and the enseymada macapunos for my sweet tooth ($4 for a box of 4). The lady behind the counter is friendly and provides us with additional details on the ingredients. No-frills bakery with nothing too fancy or special, but they do cater their baked goods to all over NJ! Worth a try if you're in the area and want to taste some Filipino bread. read more

The shop keeper is very nice and they have pretty good pastries. The shrimp chips are also very good, and the place even had the bbq sauce I wanted. Ecclectic but that adds to the immaculate vibes. read more

I'm a huge fan of Berkeley Bakery's products, so stopping by one of their branches is pretty exciting (for me, at least). Berkeley Bakery specializes in Filipino goodies--from the quintessential pan de sal (regular and stuffed) to their pastillias and various pastries, cakes, and cookies. This bakery, however, is not as appealing as Italian or Portuguese bakeries. The exterior is fine, but inside, the place looks more like a storage area. There is a coffee machine to your immediate right upon walking in, while the majority of packaged products are in the middle of the floor. There is a shelf with packs of pan de sal on the left side, along with some frozen products. At the counter, there are various cookies and and pastries. From what I remember, most of them are not Filipino products. Their pan de sal, fortunately, was fresh. Each pack comes with 10 large buns, which is convenient for me since I usually buy from the Philippine Bread House in JC. I also bought a pack of pastillas, which I thought was delicious. It was not overly sweet--just right. My only gripe about Berkeley Bakery's Highland Park location is that it gets uncomfortably warm inside, which is concerning since some of the products include dairy. Best hopiang baboy! It's how I expected it to be, although it's been such a long time that I haven't been back home to the.Philippines, where I have always had it as a little girl growing up, their hopiang baboy is definitely the best and it brings back childhood memories. Picked up some hopia mongo, delicious. I just wish they put expiration dates on them. Like any food not as good as when they're fresh. Some of these food has been in stores shelves for a while so we don't know their expiration date. read more

I think we are in the age of specialization. Who wants yet another bakery? Well this one is a Filipino bakery, so now I'm interested. They have something called hopia baboy which is a bread with scallions. It is just a scallion flavor- there isn't that much scallions in it. It was pretty good. It has a bean paste in there too. I've also tried the hopia mongo which has black beans. I sampled the hopia macapuno, which is coconut, and the pig pie, which apparently has scallion in it also. It was tasty. The Filipino baked goods are kind of like the Taiwanese crumby moon cake filling. My favorite items so far are hopia baboy and macapuno. read more

Amazing chicken empanada- buttery, flakey crust filled with a mix of chicken and veggies. Even better- $1.00 for an empanada the size of my hand. There are other Filipino meat filled rolls too, but they have much less meat inside. There are lots of breads and rolls, both sweet and savory. The cookies look to be brought in, but all of the breads appear fresh. There are also a variety of sausages. Best part- free samples of sweet and savory stuffed breads. read more

I was charged with acquiring rolls. And here is a place for rolls. This place is choc-full with tasty Filipino yum. Fresh, reasonably priced (about $2.50 a container) pan de dal (rolls) and ensaymada (sweet rolls) and pan de leche (milk bread). When I walked in the store was overflowing with boxes and bags that were going out for delivery. Undeterred by the massive amounts of food surrounding me, I squished stubbornly to pluck some rolls plus some sweet extras from the ready-to-go table. They make amazing bread. I used to come here every day after school to buy their buns. Very very cheap prices and delicious goods. Their empanadas are also very yummy and cheap! I've seen their goods sold at nearby supermarkets, but you can get them for the best price at the bakery itself. They make both sweet and savory goods, from coconut cakes to meaty buns. The bakery is a little crowded, but not to the point of it being a problem. It always smells delicious because they're constantly baking. Often times they will give you something that came fresh out of the oven. This bakery is a staple of our town and I hope it stays for years to come. read more

The Yema Macapuno and Ensymada are fresh and oh so good! Peej loved the Pan De Sal. I had a craving for Filipino baked goods and this place hit the spot. I believe everything is made fresh in the store. They also have a variety of frozen meats and fish to make typical filipino dishes like longganisa and milk fish. Skip the cookies on display and come for the Filipino goodies. I'm coming back next time to try the pastillas. read more

Great Filipino bakery with all the usual suspects , they have hot fresh baked pan de sal available daily and lots of sweets... I used to live down in the Atlantic City area and went several times to a store in Egg Harbor Township called Jade which sells the baked goods from this bakery, which I loved to buy . When I moved here I was pleasantly surprised to learn that I live within walking distance of this place, the source of all the baked goods I used to eat when I lived in AC and had never been to Highland Park nor even heard of it.. read more

I like this bakery, I love their products, they have a lot of varieties that you can choose from, my personal favorite is the Ensaymada Macapuno, it's a very delicious bread that has butter, sugar and coconut pieces on top love it and, they also have good hopia which is a bread that has some beans inside. I was stuck in traffic on my way to Princeton for work, and I stopped in totally on a lark. This place is AMAZINGLY GOOD. The woman in charge let me try some pan de sal (fresh out of the oven .... This bakery is a fantastic and unique addition to the town. There is a very large variety of pastries to choose from and they will give you free samples. The empanadas they sell here are the best I've ever had and very different from the empanadas that you would get at a Latin American restaurant. I also love the Spanish bread which is a very sweet bread. The hopi a baboy is another one that I enjoy. It's a sweet and savory pastry that's very addictive. The prices are very good. Individual empanadas are $1 which is less than what you'd pay for an empanada anywhere else. The boxes of pastries usually run around $3-4. This place only take cash so make sure to have a few dollars on you. read more
